Another shrug was paid easily to the Oaksworth boy. Mind you, Miss Springhall’s not very likely to get annoyed. She’s not a short tempered person, by all means.
“Well, you may address your letters to Kensington. Amazingly, it’s in London as well. I wonder why I haven’t seen you around before.” she chuckled a bit. Maybe it’s because she lives in a muggle district? “Sadly I might not be able to pay you visits. Would be send to Sheffield from July 26th. You could also address there.”
Her mother had came up with this idea. The Linfield Manor would be a good place for children to stay, while their parents were away on a business trip. By all means she did not like it——her aunt Thea just seemed odd and weird. Sometimes she really wondered how Perseus lived in that situation. She still preferred Kensington. Yep, that’s her home.
“And, yes, I bet there would be a lot innocent children in the summer camp. We shan’t make them feel horrible, shall we? But it’s still a question whether you’d ruin their innocence. Some of them could be smart.”
“Well…the ball sounds fun actually. Hags and vampires sounds…tempting. Fighting them would be good…actually…”
Her voice lowered. “But anyway, would you risk yourself to attend such events? So far I’ve known, all the balls and games and other things held till now have an intriguing prompt, which make them somehow interesting to attend.”
Sorry for the long wait!

He waited for the girl to finish talking before addressing her question. He may have been plotting some dastardly things to do with rabbits and sticky notes, but he was polite. At the very least, polite to her, until the inevitable fallout. He didn't believe in karma, but he did believe in the law of equality. If something good in any amount were to happen, something bad in retribution would follow. Luckily, their friendship would seem to last another day, since he'd already spilled ink on several pieces of homework, one of which was not his. A fair price to pay for someone to not loathe him with all their heart and soul.

"Well, technically I don't live in London anymore. Moved to Brighton when I was about six, seven? Sometime around that. As I said, some of my dad's friends are planning on renting it out from us, so we're going to be there from July 1st to August 2nd."

He laughed again, as she told him that he may be underestimating the intelligence of the younger ones.

"Believe me, none of them will be. The last time I met with a nine-year-old was when I babysat for my neighbour. He ate a clay lettuce, thinking it was real. Not only can I ruin their innocence, I can also ruin their digestive system. Double trouble, I am. And, shan't? What's this fancy language you speak of, Madam Florence? I know only of the common tongue."

"Excuse me, fun? How is nearly dying fun? How is being faced with hags who will eat you alive fun?" He then quieted a bit, as the pitch of his voice went higher and higher, betraying his usually masked feelings of fear about the subject. Leonard then smiled, trying to joke about it, as others so easily did. "Archery, and now fighting monsters? Why, you surprise me more and more. And, I probably wouldn't go, since, y'know, the teachers cancelled it for a reason. Besides, if I wanted an intriguing prompt, I'd go to an Easter egg hunt, not a life threatening death trap. Maybe that's just me, though."

She chuckled. The boy was interesting. Almost exceedingly. He was quite smart, and always surprised her. He seemed a good friend, after all.

Speaking about good friend, she believed her friend did somehow have a point on murdering. Well, being murdered wasn’t that fun, maybe, but she just wanted to give it a try. You’d never know what would happen, would you? Well, unless you tried.

“I mean,” chuckling, she started. “dangers are always there. You cannot avoid them, even if you are Merlin himself. I just wanna to try my magic skills. Though, Easter egg hunt seems a great way to practice, too…if they allow magic. The four point spell would be useful!”

And there ended the talk on the “murder” topic. Lindsey believed that Leonard wasn’t mad at all, even a little bit, but just wanting to find something to debate. Debating was indeed fun, and Lindsey liked it.

“Anyway…archery is fun. You should try it. Just target, and fire.” she laughed. “Though you’ve got to target the target, instead of a person! I’m afraid someone would come to me and throw me into Azkaban if I harmed a innocent young boy or girl.”

She wondered whether Leonard knew any sport. Or had any skills. He seemed a fun person, and a fun one must have some secret skills. Well, maybe not exactly secret, but she was really curious.

“Speaking of archery,” again she started. “Do you play any sports? Like Quidditch? Or muggle one, like football or volleyball? If not, then maybe you are talented in art or something like that? Anyway, you seemed a really talented person, and an athletic one.”

Leonard nodded in acceptance of the perpetual danger surrounding the school and its many, many muggle health code violations. Really, why was he surprised? In a castle full of adolescents with abilities including changing appearance at will and turning into werewolves, an archer would be the least of his worries. Besides, he wasn't likely to do anything bad enough to warrant an arrow in the knee. At least, do something that bad and get caught.

"Well, you did say innocent young boy or girl. If the young boy or girl, hypothetically, wasn't innocent, or wasn't young, perhaps," he trailed off, smiling with a hint of mischief. "And, well, Azkaban sounds like a bit of a stretch. By that logic, most of what we study in Herbology should be thrown in there for attempted murder."

He stifled a laugh when the girl wondered about his own skills. Science was his forte, by a disconcerting amount compared to literally anything else. Once he devoted himself to something, devotion became a word that could barely describe it. He'd neglected most other areas of life, including those of trivial things such as hobbies, friends, and talents during his stay at muggle schools. Something he was now beginning to feel slight regret for doing such. If only he had something to impress others, something other than badly delivered jokes and sarcastic death threats.

"Honestly, not really. Quidditch is fun to watch, but I'd much rather be on the stands then having the constant threat of leather balls and wooden maces while riding a broom twenty feet above ground. And for muggle sports, when I was around eight or seven my dad sent me to a football camp. I was, to put it simply, horrible. I tripped on my shoestrings at least five times in every game, and I wasn't even playing. And I didn't have shoelaces, either. For arts, I can't dance, I most definitely cannot sing, I can't draw anything further than a stick and a circle. The only thing one could say I'm skilled at is baking."

"What about you? You going to try out for the Hufflepuff Quidditch team anytime soon? Any other weapons you want me to give a go?"

She grinned hearing Leonard talking about his terrible experience at football. Really, she wasn’t that surprised. People always had some…somethings that they were not good at, right? Though Leonard was great. Even fantastic. So maybe it’s a bit too much.

She raised her eyebrow inquiringly when Leonard said that he’s quite good at baking. “Wow, that’s…fascinating! I hope I’m good at baking — I’ve been to the kitchen for a couple of times, but the results were all terrible. I nearly made our house exploded once. And now the result is I’m not allowed into the kitchen anymore.” that was true. Her baking and cooking skills were terrible. Sewing was not that bad though, but still, she wasn’t the best. “And I’m a terrible dancer. Couldn’t count how many times I’ve tripped over others.” she shrugged.

The boy had mentioned Quidditch, the sport which she…liked a lot. It was quite weird, for a small girl like her could feel like flying high up and trying to hit others or scoring. Maybe that was the result of being born in a wizard family. Her father had been a Quidditch player on the Ravenclaw team when he was at school. And maybe that’s why she liked it. Inheritance, huh?

“Um, yeah, I guess…” She answered. “Though I don’t think I could actually make it — the Hufflepuffs are quite strong. However we have to try, right? That’s the only way to know whether a thing’s possible or not.” she grinned. Trying to do a certain thing was never difficult for her — as Lindsey was, extremely stubborn — though she still lack the energy sometimes. Persistence wasn’t a thing. Motivation was.

“What about you? If Quidditch isn’t a thing for you, what about dueling or broom racing? Heard they would be out soon. So maybe there would be house teams next term.” She offered. Somehow Lindsey really hoped to watch her friends play on house teams. Cheering for the people she knew and liked was fantastic, so she couldn’t wait to give it a try. “I would definitely be watching your games if you have the plan to join any of them.” she added, with a warm smile.

Insecurities were something anybody of Leonard's age, being, and self-destructive mindset would have. Even the most solid of plans, after all, would fall apart with the fact the emotional part in his brain was, indeed, still there, and unlike the claims of several previous customers at the bakery, he was not a robot. No matter what the skin and bones he had said, however, he still presented himself as one. The monotone that wavered only slightly at particularly disturbing pieces of information, the ever-staring eyes that would spare nobody except toads from judgement (the poor animals didn't deserve it), the conversation that was stilted, at best. However, the badger he sat across from seemed to melt all traces of automaton likeness away, just as his failures in Charms class melted away at his table.

"Baking's in my blood, really. Dad's a baker, my grandfather was a baker, my great-grandmother was a baker, my great-great grandfather was a baker, and...well, you get it. I got tons of great relatives who were great bakers," he said, though he left out the information that he was due to take over the empire of bread and cake once he graduated. Perhaps he'd tell her later in the year. Perhaps he wouldn't tell her at all. Either way, disappointment would most likely ensue.

He took a quadruple take when Lindsey talked of her own experience with baking.

"I'm sorry, you nearly exploded your own house? What were you using as ingredients? Wait, don't answer that. Frankly, I don't want to know," he said. "I'm pretty terrible at dancing as well, even by myself. Probably has something to do with my football skills."

When he heard of her interest in the sport of flying, catching things, whacking things, and being whacked by things, he wasn't quite surprised. While, yes, he was unable to see the real draw of Quidditch, he wasn't surprised. After all, this was the girl who practiced archery and, from what he just learned, nearly burned her house down.

"Well, I'll be cheering you on if—no, when, you make it on the team. You seem pretty good at most things that don't involve cookbooks, at least, to me. But I won't be rooting for you if you're playing against Slytherin. My dormmates would give me a right beating if I did."

"Dueling isn't really my thing, either. I mean, I have a hard enough time in regular Charms class. Add that to the pressure and the fact my entire house is relying on me, and you don't need much knowledge in baking to know that's a recipe for disaster. I don't think I'd be that great at broom racing, as well. I already get a bit queasy in airplanes, but flying on a stick as fast as I can would make sure my stomach turns inside out. If anything, I'd want to be an announcer for Quidditch. I'm all set for the job, actually. Quick voice? Check. Observing skills? Check. Unbiased because I really don't care much about the sport itself? Check. Although, I wouldn't know how you'd cheer for me when all I'm doing is saying which players are doing what."

She listened when Leonard introduced his baker family to her. Not bad, having family members good at cookie delicious cakes and bread, huh? Only the women in her family were good at baking. No, the women did not include her. She was terrible in all these things.

She smirked when the boy commented on the sports. “Well, dueling sounds nice — just sounds. Alright, if you could manage to dodge every spell, then it’s nice. And there’s no doubt that broom racing is dangerous. Riding on a broom and casting spells? I don’t think that’s my piece of cake. Guess I’d just tryout for Quidditch next year.” she shrugged. Leonard’s opinions on the Quidditch announcer indeed sounded intriguing. If there were tryouts for the announcer, then she might consider to attend — only after Leonard’s explanation for this kind of “sport”.

“Why couldn’t I cheer for you? I could pick a place nearest to the announcer stage. And I may cheer when someone scores, or someone manages to bludger another down their broom. Cheering for your witty comments, apparently. I should ask headmaster Lear for such a position one day. We should separate the referee from the announcer.” she replied. “Cheering for friends on the team is always nice. And yes, to be an announcer, you just have to have a quick voice and observing skills, which you definitely have. Oh yeah, and justice — another good trait of yours, huh? I totally agree with your career — announcer Oaksworth, when would be your first game?”

She felt excited. Talking with this snake boy was definitely a great pleasure, and she trusted his tongue — quick and witty, nice for a talkative person, right?

Well, at least she has some form of sense, he thought as the girl across him detailed her reasoning for not being a broom racer. After all, it would've been a right shame if one of the only people in the entire castle he could properly consider a friend decided to get herself into an extracurricular with more likelihood of getting one killed than getting stabbed with a knife did.

"Well, considering what you've told me about your skills in the kitchen, I'd advise you to stay far away from anything that isn't your piece of cake," he smiled while saying so, though there wasn't any malice to the words as there might have been had his partner in conversation been anybody else. She was an exception to sarcastic, verbal jabs, as she was an exception to being insulted for any problems he'd seen on first sight when they met. Leonard couldn't imagine anyone insulting her, at that point.

"Look, it's not as though my future's based off becoming an announcer for sports. I didn't go to career day in primary school dressed up in black-and-white checkers saying I wanted to become an anchorman for football," he remarked after she talked about requesting Lear for the occupation. While it was a nice thing to dream about during particularly boring classes, even reciting scores seemed too fast-paced for him, when he really thought about it. "Besides, my witty comments might be sparse, with all that flying and fouling going on. I'm not great under pressure, you should know. But if I had to choose my first game, it'd be anything but Hufflepuff versus Slytherin. As I said, if I cheered for Hufflepuff while you were playing, I'd be called a traitor by my dormmates, and if I cheered for Slytherin, I'd feel guilty about not being on your side. Can't be completely just if that's happening."

"If we're talking about careers, though, I will admit I've thought of becoming an alchemist. I've won quite a few first place trophies for my science projects, mostly for chemistry. Potions can't be that different from that, right? Sure, there are some differences, but the general gist of mixing things until it either explodes or works is similar. Plus, baking's got some similarities there as well. Think I could pull it off?" He gestured grandly in the air with his wand. "Leonard Oaksworth, master of alchemy and creator of the common sense potion. Has a ring to it, don't you think?"

“Well, we’d see that eventually one day, Mr Oaksworth.” she teased, chuckling at his comments on him being a commenter of the match Hufflepuff vs Slytherin. Well, if indeed there’s a match like this…that would be intriguing, indeed. While she definitely would be expecting a win for the badgers, friends were those that had unbreakable status in her life. Being over protective yet calm still, she clearly knew that she couldn’t do much to stop others from winning or becoming the first. But friends were her life. She’d fight for them without a word being said.

“Alchemist? So you mean a Potioneer.” she answered, without even noticing that she instinctively switched the career name from muggle to wizard version. “Potions is a great subject…and a great way to pursue, if you like it. Though personally I prefer learning spells. You know, the flobberworms sometimes make me feel dizzy.” she chuckled a bit. Well, it was true that Lindsey never liked worms, especially crawling ones. And those potions, although interesting to brew (just like baking or cooking, like what the Slytherin had just said), somehow lost their beauty when it came to chopping or screwing the weird ingredients. Plants in potions were okay, but worms and slugs were certainly a no to the young Hufflepuff. Charms, DADA and Transfigurations were definitely better on that point. “For me I want to seek a job in the Ministry…or be some sorts of professors. Though a Ministry job sounds more appealing to me.” she commented after his thoughts.

With a small glance to her watch, Lindsey was surprised to find that time was actually passing. It seemed quick…quicker than what she actually thought. Leonard was certainly a great company, with all those wits and fun thoughts. He was counted as a friend, of course. It was quite intriguing that she often found herself among the company of the snake kids, while herself being one of the badgers. But nah, all in all, it was totally okay for her, without bringing any uneasiness hanging around with them. After all she had a Slytherin family. Maybe her Ravenclaw family had taught her to think logically like them. Eagles and snakes were almost the same in the young girl’s mind.

She blinked, and glanced at the boy sitting beside her. Sunshine dropped into the room from the window behind them, and gave his face a shade of warm golden color. A bit hesitated, she gently tapped his shoulder. “Thank you for the lovely company, Mister Leonard Oaksworth.” she grinned, trying hard to make self sounded formal. “Though let us start moving, I presume that food will be served soon.” Saying this, she offered a hand to him for him to shake. “You’d escort me to the hall, wouldn’t you, Mister Oaksworth?” grinning widely she teased, and stood up, showing the Slytherin the way.

The sun was still shining, brining laughters and happiness of students enjoying time outside with it. The young Hufflepuff wouldn’t know what had happened to her housemates and schoolmates — but what she knew was that the toilets here were not abandoned. See, she had just proved it.
