Abandoned? I Don’t Think So PV Finished

“So you mean that those toilets are abandoned? Come on, I don’t think so.” Lindsey said to one of her housemates.
“No nobody use them now Lynn.” That Hufflepuff girl patted her on the shoulder.
“I mean, why would anyone do that? They’re working all well, aren’t they?” Although knowing that she hadn’t got enough theories to compete against her housemate, Lindsey still struggled.
“Also, people meet there — so you couldn’t say…bye!” she awkwardly ended this debate and ran away.

Lindsey flew over to the “abandoned” toilets her housemate and herself were discussing. She started the conversation somehow and it ended up for her to forget about the meeting with Leonard in the toilets until accidentally defending herself using “people meet there”. The girl lightly climbed on the stairs, and landed in front of the bathroom. “Let me take a look at this.” She said, with a rather mischievous smile that seldom appeared on her face.

“Girls this way —? Nope. Or that could be.” she spent a period finding the girls lavatory. She suddenly smiled again. “Ah, I see why it’s ‘abandoned’ by staffs——they didn’t build the boys and girls lavatories apart.” The girl remarked, while venturing further into the toilets.
A snowy owl flew in suddenly. Lindsey soon recognized her as the Springhall’s family owl, Jadis.

“Hey Jad — what are you doing here?” she asked the snowy owl carelessly while taking down a letter from its leg. It wasn’t unusual to see it here, as her brother’s owl had always played the role of messenger since she was bought. “So mom had sent me the instructions for summer? Great. Thank you, Jad, sincerely.” She smiled to the bird, while walking inside.
Leonard hadn’t arrived yet. Had he? Thought Lindsey, opening the envelope.
“I’ll read it first then.” She murmured, locating on the first line.
What she hadn’t noticed was, the first line was written as “Dear Lindsey,” rather than “Dear Flora,”, the name she had introduced herself to Leonard.

During his time at Hogwarts, Leonard had known about the toilets.

How could he not know? Even if the castle were to be a normal, muggle school, any place like it would’ve been explored long before his arrival. At his old school, there would’ve been rumours about being haunted, and that the cracks on the floor had come from the bouts of dancing they had, trying to remember what it was like to be alive. While this said much about his classmates’ childhoods, now that he thought about it, it provided the same sentiment: it was a brilliant meeting place.

He’d met with his other friends (such a weird word to apply to them) there just a few weeks previous. Despite the fact, he’d taken quite a long time coming up to the lavatory in question, getting stopped by homework and procrastinating on said homework. Another factor had been his nerves. He’d made a good first impression, but it wouldn’t be the only impression he’d make. As he learned, he was much better at being an unfeeling robot than turning acquaintances into friends. A troubling thought.

He stood at the entrance of the bathroom. Flora was there, reading a letter.

“Knock, knock,” he said, not knocking. From the look of the place, if he had, it would’ve caved in. “May I come in, Miss Flora?”

Lindsey had finished the first part of the letter soon. She’s always a quick reader, no matter what’s the reading material was——textbooks, novels, brochures, even advertisements.
The badger’s big eyes were lit suddenly. Summer Camp!
She had expressed her eager to go to the summer camp in her letter to Enjolras. Enj was the one who would patiently listen to all her will and thoughts. Seemed like he had sent her parents an owl——because her mom would like her to spend her birthday at home with their family. The camp was till July 20th, but her birthday was on July 19th.
Thanks to Enjolras! Thought Lindsey. She’d got to send one——nope two, or even three letters to her eldest cousin. He’s much more better than that Combeferre.
She heard someone knocking——or saying “knock, knock” at the door.
Lindsey raised up her head, and smiled. It’s Leonard, for sure.
“Hi Leonard!” She said merrily. “Do come in, please.”
“Actually you don’t have to knock.” the girl smiled. “I don’t think anyone’s here——except us.” She added.
“Well, my mother permitted me to go to the summer camp finally.” she said, pointing to the letter.
“She’s just a bit sad about I cannot spend my last day of eleven at home. Maybe you’d like to have a look at it?” Lindsey said rather awkwardly, giving Leonard the short letter.

The letter:

Dear Lindsey,
Your dad and I decide that you shall go to the summer camp. Although I do hope you could spend your birthday at home, we think that this camp would be good for you.
As for Edmund, we’ll send him to a baseball club——in order to help him to spend these lonely days. He’d have a good time there too, and we could keep him from using magic.
Okay, so that’s it, have fun at the camp!
Love,
Mom
P.S. You should thank Enjolras for it. He nearly flooded Serendipity Garden with letters. This is the first time he sent so many letters to us.

Leonard sat next to her, and took the letter with confusion, as well as slight disappointment, if he'd been honest. His father, while having been able to delay a ruling for several days, was no match for the destructive forces of an extremely delicious pie. He wasn't allowed to go to summer camp, and instead had to spend his days in a city of England he'd rather forget. As if he'd just get up to trouble there. He wasn't only going to do that, there were other things to do in a magical camp then set people's things on fire for fun, mother.

"Lindsey? Isn't your name Florence? Unless that's your last name? Never heard of anybody with the last name Florence."

He eyed the girl with suspicion. He'd already known that badgers could lie. It wasn't required for them to just be the kind ones all the time. But lying about her name wasn't something she would seem to do. Then again, they'd met once before. And Hogwarts students seemed to be the most capable of surprising him, so far.

"Who're Edmund and Enjolras? Wicked name, that last one. Are they your cousins? Also, what's your full name? Your test in Friendship can't be accepted, Miss Florence, unless you use your name."

Lindsey gasped while Leonard pronounced the name “Lindsey”. Oh dear, how could she…forget this?
She had thought of plenty of ways how her little prank would be discovered by Leonard. But, never by this letter from her mom.
Could this be called a lie? The girl had never lied before, and suddenly she felt bad, very bad.
Although Florence was her middle name, and she was meant to have this name for given name (her father sometimes still called her Flora), Lindsey felt that she had made a huge mistake. She’s embarrassed, and really wanted to flee.
No. She had to deal with it, and running off was something a coward would do. Lindsey Florence Springhall was never a coward.
“Florence is my middle name…” she said softly. “I’m meant to be called this before my parents came up with Lindsey. Sometimes my father still calls me Flora.”
“Sorry if I’ve caused some troubles to you…very sorry.”
Apologize was indeed difficult. Or very difficult. They said apologize needed effort and courage. It was true. Lindsey felt that she had been sitting there for a century before Leonard reacted to her.
How would he react? Would Leonard dismissed her away, and cleared that they were not friends anymore? No that would not happen…at least she wouldn’t want that to happen.
“So my full name is Lindsey Florence Springhall.” Lindsey raised up her head, and said decidedly. She would face it properly. “For your concern, Edmund is my brother while Enjolras is my cousin——he studies in Beauxbatons.”
“He’s not the one who wrote to me last time. That’s another cousin of mine, or, brother of this Enjolras Springhall.” Lindsey tried to explain clearly. She did not mention Combeferre’s name though, because it might be seemed more “wicker” than Enjolras’s.

Leonard shrugged, picking with his nails at the cracked floors. Wasn't that big of a deal, really. He lied all the time.

"It's fine. I get it. You wanted to play a little joke on me. Honestly, I'm disappointed I didn't figure it out sooner. Be warned, Lindsey," he said, enunciating every syllable of the girl's name. "I will get my revenge eventually. You won't know where, you won't know when, you won't know how, but it will happen."

"Anyways, your family's names seem a bit weird to me," he continued lightly, with a jovial tone that suggested light banter, rather than the threatening of one's ability to sleep peacefully at night. "I mean, Edmund's quite the name. And isn't Enjolras a character from a musical? Les Mis, yeah? But Lindsey’s a bit of a normal name, if you don’t mind me saying that. Beauxbatons. Real flashy, that one. Even the name sounds pretentious. Do you ever wish you could’ve gone to another school, rather than Hogwarts? I’d never fancied the name of it, to be honest. I mean, it’s a pig with pimples. The only explanation I can think of would be that the founders decided to meet a muggle for once in their lives, and his name was Jack Daniel.”

“Revenging on me might be very difficult I warn you Mr Leonard.” Lindsey grinned. It’s much better than what she had expected.
She shrugged when hearing Leonard saying her cousins’ names were weird.
“Well, Enjolras is a nice family name in France…and yes, it’s from Les Mis. My grandmother and aunt——they are both French——love this muggle book and musical.”
To be frank, except her own name, Edmund, Enjolras and Combeferre were all from muggle books. The Springhalls tended to name their children in some meaningful names. Even her uncle and father, both got names from the muggle novels. Andre, from War and Peace; while Fitzwilliam, from Pride and Prejudice.
“Don’t laugh at me——I did have thought to attend another magical school. Not Beauxbatons, though, my French is awful even though half of my family speak it fluently. What I have wished is a family tutoring in China. Again, don’t laugh——I really fancied those swords, books, calligraphies and flutes. Those fantastic magic made by my grandmother’s Chinese relatives and friends really shocked me.”
“Like, instead of using a wand, they shoot magic from their top of sword. Or some even only use bare hands. I really did not believe it that time, and I once hoped I could be like them.”

"Eh, we'll see about that," he muttered, hoping the girl hadn't heard. Her prank was minuscule in comparison to others done in the very same castle, from singing Howlers to lighting firecrackers that were most definitely more dangerous than the silver-tongued salesman had made it seem. He’d had nothing (that anybody could prove, at least) to do with the two events, but the sentiment was the same. Either way, snakes were the masters of disproportionate retribution.

That fact of a wish for Beauxbatons was much more interesting than the prospect for revenge, at that moment. If she had not decided that French wasn't too bad to learn, if they hadn't met, what would have become of him? Well, the wording of that was rather melodramatic. There wouldn't have been much changed, he wouldn't have run away and become an omnicidal maniac. Maybe.

"Yeah, China's magic's really cool. Everything is made there, after all. Don't know how I'd be able to keep up with the language, though. It might be even harder than French. French is just silent punching noises, from what I've heard. There would be even more to study for astrology, as well. With the zodiacs originating from there, and all that."

"I considered Durmstrang, but then I figured it was too...physical. Dark arts isn't for me. I prefer more intellectual methods of torture. You won't be finding out what, though. Not until revenge comes on you, Miss Springhall."

“Nah,” Lindsey folded her arms and leaned against the wall. “Durmstrang is not too bad…but let the dark arts all disappear, really. I don’t like them.”

She shrugged when hearing the intellectual methods of torture. She never believed anyone’s better than her on things dealing with wisdom and smartness. If it’s indeed a torture, she could recognize it in the mist within minutes.

“Okay, so I’m Springhall. What’s your last name?” She asked. “So I could have an alias for you when I’m sad or angry with you.”

Sad or angry? She made up it. It’s only an excuse. Mostly, for fun. She really couldn’t imagine if she’s angry or sad with the boy…if this really happened, then something, yes, or everything, must be wrong.
She was almost grateful for meeting him in the Owlery. A friend, yes, a true friend for her. She could feel this, although they really didn’t have much encounters.

“By the way,” she raised up her head. “I’d be writing to you at the camp——or if you want, throughout the summer. It’s…a pity you couldn’t go.”
The last sentence was said in a low voice. A pity. So many pities in her life. The latest one except this might be the ball. She didn’t go, really, and as a result, had no idea of what had happened.

“Do you know what happened at the Ball?” She asked rather curiously. “I didn’t go…but I think there’s sort of an accident. You know anything about it? Or you were present there?”

Seeing the girl dismiss the subject of torture with the ease of a simple gesture was fascinating, in a sense. One would think someone belonging to what had been deemed the kindest house would react with something more akin to horror, or any variant of 'don't do that'. It would take more than meaningless threats to unnerve her, which was more than accepted.

"Well, you may call me Oaksworth, Miss Springhall. Like the village, but with an s. And, trust me, you'll be sad or angry with me soon enough. Or both," he chuckled darkly. It was only a matter of time for someone who believed in him to be disappointed. The time ranged from on first meeting to first words, but nothing good could ever last for long. Either way, enjoying something while it lasted was something he'd vowed to never stop doing.

"If you want to write to me, it's fine. I'll be in London for July and Dublin for August, though. Some stuff with the business and renting out our old place. The summer camp wouldn't have really been a great fit for me anyways. Bet there'd be tons of little siblings for me to ruin the innocence of."

"I wasn't at the Ball, actually. Just heard a load of what happened after, and apparently it wasn't that good. I mean, hags and vampires? Even for a magical school it seems far out. Unless those lot were lying. Wouldn't be surprised."
