Group D: Gryffindor vs. Ravenclaw
"Flipendo!"
Bright hot light lapped at his pupils before he managed to see if his spell even hit or not. He grimaced, rubbing them with the arm of his cloak as he stumbled back a few paces. After the failure of his last duel, he almost dreaded what could come next, but he knew that being temporarily blinded was not as bad as the horrors that were inflicted on him in the previous match.
"Hang in there, Rose." He groaned, opening his eyes and blinking viciously in the direction of the other duelists, wand still at the ready.

It seemed that the previous light show really did a number on the Gryffindors, affecting their spellcasting long after the blaze subsided. Both duellists' highly-successful spellcasts veered off to the side, whizzing quite close to their target, but ultimately missing them all.
On the other side, only one spell from the three that the Ravenclaws aimed to cast succeeded to hit its target, a Curse of the Bogies inflicting Eyre Reeves with the beginnings of a very severe cold.
Recoiling in disgust at the slowly developing mucus in the student's airways, Dmitri called out, "Seems to be a more productive duel for the Ravenclaws at this point in time—on status effects, that is." With a glance at both teams, the Slytherin captain sliced another hand through the air to signal the start of the next bout. "Maybe this time, we'll see some damage. Continue."

Mentioning @Cade Darkbound @Rose Moon @Eyre Reeves"Mucus ad Nauseam!" Frankly, Phaedra felt no remorse for resorting to the Curse of the Bogies. It was allowed in their arsenal, so why not toy with it? Her appreciative gazing at the curse wrecking havoc on Eyre's sinuses was cut short when she had to duck from Rose sending its twin in her direction. It flew behind her, no doubt thanks to her earlier Lumos Maxima, and she let out a breath of relief when Cade narrowly avoided retaliation from Eyre—exact same spell as Rose.
Well, now it was getting a bit excessive. Gryffindor would have to learn that the curse was a backup force, not something to rely on entirely. Then again, what good was a spell if it didn't manifest at all? Twirling her wand around her fingers, eyes still glued to the pair across from her, Phaedra would say to her partner, "Oh, Cade. I know you can do better than that." It came with no hint of anger, but with the expectant tone one would hear from an older sibling. At the very least, he was standing and still with her. She learned long ago to count her blessings where she could. "Get ready."Doing as strategized (x)

This was going exactly the way their last duel had- with one person hitting all of their spells and the other three not doing good at all, with Eyre having the least luck. Neither of the lions’ spells hit, but one of the Ravenclaws’ targets had, as she heard it make contact with Eyre next to her. She could see a little bit now, still blinking away the light in her eyes. “Come on,” she snarled to herself, shifting her grip on her wand for the next round of hurling spells at their opponents. That’s when she heard the voice of Dmitri, the guy who lectured them about not inserting any outward bias into their dueling. They were totally aware of what was going on- he didn’t need to commentate- that wasn’t his job. He sounded so judgemental in what he said. Frustration bubbled up inside her- why couldn’t she just be good at this?

Tagging @Phaedra Stavrou @Rose Moon @Eyre ReevesCade nodded at Phaedra as she reminded him to keep to the plan. "Got it!" He called over to her, and as Dmitri signaled for the next round, Cade moved his wand in the familiar shape of a flame. "Incendio!" he tried to cast towards Rose. But something about her was so unreasonably distracting. Was it the perfect way her hair shimmered? In any case, the spell never issued from the wand of walnut. Two feeble sparks of green spat from his wand tip and Cade frowned at it, utterly betrayed.
Phaedra managed to cast Curse of the Bogies almost effortlessly. He was glad that she was keeping up for the two of them, but Cade felt embarrassed his first spell had gone so poorly. "I know! I know I can do it." Cade gave a nervous chuckle to cover up his embarrassment. Pink tinged his ears as he quickly glanced over to see Phae's disapproving look. He returned to face their opponents. There was still time. There was still hope.

Mucus ad Nauseum set in again. Eyre gritted his teeth as the familiar sludgy phlegm started to fill up his throat and make him choke. "Lucky for you, you just have to watch it!" He growled at Dmitri. He knew that it wasn't his fault... but his patience was starting to dwindle increasingly fast. His hand gripped around his wand while he coughed pathetically, a dribble of snot running down his nose. If only they could get the upper hand in this.

Spells flew every which way as the third bout commenced—some hitting, while some missing by a mile. After the figurative dust cleared, both Gryffindors were left debilitated by their opponents who were standing in the other side unscathed.
At face value, an inexperienced bystander would pronounce the game over and done with, but to Dmitri, there always is a miniscule chance that one could push through.
It was all just a combination of luck and guts.

Okay, this just sucked now. Eyre’s headache and snot flow was probably growing from inconvenience to hurting, which did spark a pang of guilt into Rose- why couldn’t she help him? It was stupid that she didn’t even have a spell to help him get any better. They were so pathetic. She looked across the stage at Phaedra and Cade, analyzing them. She still couldn’t see perfectly, but through her spotty vision, she could see that they were unharmed. They weren’t at all inconvenienced by this duel, and seemed to be barely trying.
Lucky.
Rose wasn’t sure she even liked dueling anymore- it was just offering herself up to be bullied by another house’s duelists, and letting down her own house. She wasn't even any good, and Eyre might be better off with a better dueling partner. Rose was doubting herself- again. Couldn’t she do anything right?
Rose gritted her teeth. She had to pull through this.

Little did Rose know that Eyre was thinking the same thing. This was stupid. He felt absolutely powerless to the older girl on the other team. He was absolutely in pain now, and already on the verge of feeling humiliated. He considered giving up, but he still remained in the game. His pride wouldn't allow him to do that. Anger and frustration bubbled up inside of him, scowling at the two of them as he raised his wand and prepared for the worst.

Mentioning @Cade Darkbound @Rose Moon @Eyre ReevesCade missed, but at least his wand cooperated with him this time. As for herself, Phaedra couldn't help but wonder if this match up could be considered a duel at all. It was more like a beating, and so far, she had been the only one to land her spells. It wasn't like she wanted Gryffindor to land theirs—she was in it to win it, after all, and they were still spamming the Curse of the Bogies—but something to keep her on her toes would've been nice. At least her last duel hadn't been a one-sided snoozefest.
When the fourth and third-years were to eventually graduate, would these second-years really be the oldest in the castle? The leaders and figureheads among their peers? Merlin help them all. Hopefully by then they could aim. This thought humored her greatly, because after lowering her wand arm, she turned to her partner and spoke in a hushed voice, "Pssst. Cade. You reckon I should stand still for them?"Doing as strategized (x)
