Logan nodded her head at the thought of still not being prepared for the exams. She would probably have a repeat of the year before and freak out, causing Henry to have to help her and then she would feel bad and have to do something for him.

As Alexa spoke about not being ready for the duels, Logan nodded her head in agreement. "I am fine before the duel, but once I get out there I freeze up and forget about everything I have learned so far. I feel like I might be okay though. Although if Lucia and I end up against some older students, I don't know if I am going to be able to be much of a help to the team." Just the thought of another duel, this time against older students, made Logan extremely nervous.

Logan laughed as Alexa asked what she liked to do for fun. "I don't think either of us are doing much studying," she laughed as she thought about what all she did for fun. "I dance, normally I have one or two recitals over summer, and I also ride and compete with my horses. Here at Hogwarts I spend most of my time reading though." It came to Logan's mind that she wondered how much her horses were actually being ridden while she was away at school. Probably not as often as she would like as Jupiter would rather throw someone than willingly work.

Alexa nodded in sympathy when Logan talked about how she first reacted at the beginning of a duel. “I felt similarly!” Alexa responded when Logan mentioned freezing up and forgetting everything she had learned. “I guess that can only get better with time and practice.”

“Do you think you will be paired with Lucia again? I’m not sure what our captains are planning; to keep consistent pairs or not.” Alexa thought not, honestly. It would seem like the captains would want to see how different pairings worked in different duels, but because she wasn’t certain, she didn’t mention it.

“Oh, I can’t imagine going against older students!” Alexa paled, having not thought of that particular scenario before. It had been bad enough dueling people her own age and approximate skill level! “Yeah, I don’t imagine I would be much help, either… Maybe with support spells?” She wondered aloud.

Alexa smiled when the other girl laughed; she had a very happy laugh. “No,” Alexa chuckled, “doesn’t look like we’re getting a whole lot done, does it?” Then Logan mentioned dancing and riding horses, and Alexa immediately perked up. “I don’t dance, and I haven’t had a lot of experience with different horses, but I know how to ride from our old horse at the farm. What kinds of horses do you have, and what kinds of competitions do you take part in?”

“Oh me? Well, I like reading, singing, and spending time outside and with animals,” Alexa answered shyly.

"I believe we are staying with our partners from the first round, although I could be completely wrong." Logan honestly didn't know what was going on with the duels, only that they had two more rounds to go, which made the girl extremely nervous. She wasn't sure if she would be against Henry or not, which made her even more nervous.

Talking about the horses made Logan feel calm though. "In total we have eight horses. Although we may add a ninth horse in the Spring." Thinking about all of the horses brought a smile to her face. "Our oldest horse, well I guess pony, is Olympia. He is a 23 year old Shetland Pony. After that are the Friesians Mars and Venus. Then we have Polaris, the Thoroughbred followed by Jupiter the other Thoroughbred. Finally we have Macey and Clementine Arabians and Mercury the Irish Sport horse." Logan took a deep breath after rushing through the names and breeds of the horses. She sadly left her notebook with the pictures in the dorm, so she didn't have any pictures of the horses with her at the time. "Competing wise, I normally do Eventing, Dressage, Show Jumping, and the occasional Hunter Competition."

"I can show you pictures of them next time I remember to bring them with me." Logan informed the girl before she started talking about what she liked to do. "Reading, I love. Singing, I don't have that much experience with. I am not awful, although not the greatest either." She couldn't remember the last time she actually sang or attempted to play an instrument. That was really Rorik's thing, he was the musical child in the family.

Logan mentioning rounds to the dueling reminded Alexa that there were still two more to go this year. Luckily she has already faced Slytherin, so she wouldn’t have to face them again, right? She couldn’t imagine the thought of facing off with Henry. She shivered slightly at the thought.

Alexa was delighted to hear that Logan had so many different breeds of horses. All she had was Blossom, an old plow horse from the Scottish Highlands. But Alexa loved horses, despite only having one. “Wow, you are so lucky!” Alexa grinned, her earlier nervousness completely gone now that they were talking about horses. “Who’s your favorite horse, or do you have a favorite? Which competition do you prefer? I’ve seen show jumping, dressage, and cross-country on the Olympics, and at some local shows. I’ve never done it, but certainly my favorite to watch a show jumping.”

“Oh, I would love to see pictures of them!” Alexa enthused. She could imagine Logan’s horses in her mind, and they were all exquisitely beautiful.

“What kinds of things do you like to read?” Alexa asked curiously. She found herself really enjoying speaking with Logan.

"My favorite horse would have to either be Mercury, Jupiter, or Polaris. I don't think I would ever be able to choose between the three of them." Just the thought of having to choose one of the three made Logan kind of sad, as she knew they would not live forever and they would leave her at some point. She decided to shake that thought away though at the mention of her favorite competition to compete in. She knew this one immediately.

"Cross country. It has always been my favorite to compete in, but if I want to do cross country, I have to do the other two competitions because it is not its own competition. After that I would probably say dressage is next. It is just dancing, but with the horse instead." Logan had always loved to compete in cross country events, it allowed her to feel freer and she was able to allow the horses to be in charge. The other competitions she would always have to hold them back so they weren't able to make as many mistakes, most of the time the horses liked to be able to have more control in the competition.

The Hufflepuff had to spend a bit of time thinking when it came to what her favorite books were. She had so many of them, it was hard to choose. "I read a lot of fantasy books, as well as historical and astronomy. I have always found those books the most interesting because most of the time you are exploring something that no one else has explored before. How about you, what is your favorite books?" Logan glanced over at Alexa with a smile on her face, as she was actually getting along with someone for once.

Alexa smiled knowingly when Logan couldn’t pin down one favorite horse. Favorites were always hard with animals; each had their own merits and drawbacks, just like people. She felt the same about her three dogs. She couldn’t choose a favorite among them.

“I love that most of your horses' names have to do with astronomy,” she said, smiling again. She was really enjoying talking to Logan, getting to know this fellow Hufflepuff.

Alexa nodded in understanding when Logan explained about cross-country. “Why don’t they do it as its own competition?” She asked. There was so much she didn’t know about the equestrian world, but she was eager to find out.

Alexa waited patiently as Logan contemplated her book question, before answering. Her eyebrows went up when Logan mentioned enjoying reading about astronomy; Alexa couldn’t get into the subject herself, really, but she understood the appreciation for history. She have always been fascinated with the subject in her Muggle school, and was now even more so in her magical one.

When Logan, in turn, asked Alexa what her favorite books were, Alexa also had to think a moment. “I truly love fantasy, a lot of Muggle books. My favorite is probably the Lord of the Rings series!” She was practically exclaiming by the end of her speech. She blushed and lowered her eyes afterward, embarrassed that her outpouring of enthusiasm. But she really did love those books!

Logan thought about why cross country was not it's own discipline. "I guess not many farms have the space to have their own cross country course, so it is easier to just host the other events as their own competitions. The larger stables are usually the only ones to host Eventing competitions anyway, so they normally have the space for the cross country portion of the competition." The Hufflepuff had never really thought about how cross country was never its own discipline, although she had competed in a few competitions where it was just the cross country portion. It wasn't considered cross country though it was known as Hunter Trials.

The Hufflepuff smiled at the other girl as they talked about books, it wasn't often that Logan got to talk to other girls, as she spent most of her time hanging out with Henry. She honestly needed to make more friends, but people made her nervous. "I don't think I have read the Lord of the Rings series before. I think my favorite would be Alice in Wonderland though. I have read that book enough times that I have most of it memorized." It was true, Logan could have the book in her lap and remember almost the exact words before she got the the next page.

"So what are the Lord of the Rings books about?" The girl questioned with a smile.

“Alice in Wonderland is a great choice,” Alexa enthused. “Though, I have always been more partial to Treasure Island, myself. And of course Anne of Green Gables.” She smiled, reminiscing about two of her favorite books when she had been younger. But now Lord of the Rings definitely took the cake.

When Logan asked what Alexa’s favorite book series was about, Alexa grinned. “Dangerous question! I could go on forever about those. To start with, there’s actually a prequel that I really love, called The Hobbit. It’s about the uncle of one of the main characters in the trilogy, and it explains how his family came upon the One Ring, which is this really powerful and evil artifact. In the trilogy, the main object in the story is to destroy The Ring, and so there’s this big journey with great companions of different races, like elves and dwarves, who try to do that. But there is also war and strife in the realm where the story is set, and the companion split up, each dealing with separate problems. I can’t tell you how it ends, you have to read for yourself, but they are definitely awesome!”

Alexa took a deep breath at the end of her long spiel, and then laughed. “I told you it was a dangerous question! Sorry for going on so much about the books,” she said, blushing again, but still smiling.
