2020, Stage 1 Group D: Ravenclaw vs Slytherin

xxxPhaedra grunted as Santario's Knockback Jinx nailed her in the torso. Catching herself from slipping backward, she returned a jinx of her own with a suppressed wince and smiled to herself as it collided. If she went down, taking someone else with her was the plan, but there was no need to worry about that this time around. Lana had finished the other girl off beautifully and Phaedra somehow remained, physically weakened, but still very much in it to win. She hadn't expected to survive their double-teaming.

She wiped the sweat from her brow and waited as Santario was removed from the stage, taking the time to reassess the fight and her remaining foe. Phaedra had to admit, Santario had some godlike aim to her and it managed to knock her down a peg or two. All that was left now was her partner, Bridget, who had been less of a threat. Problem was, the prefect couldn't remember Bridget sustaining a single scratch this entire round. Knowing just how close this duel was, Phaedra couldn't claim victory yet. Her shaking hands gripped onto the walnut wand tighter, ready to act.

Practically in sync, her fellow teammate cast Flipendo along side her. As they both seemed to hit the Slytherin, she watched the girl fall to the floor gracefully. Lana waited as the medics carried her away, only to bring her eyes to Bridget.

Part of her begun to wonder how longer Phaedra could go, especially considering her past blows. She was determined, though, something that showed she wasn't the type to give up easily. Keeping the conversation vague as it had been throughout the entire match, Lana simply nodded once again as an acknowledgement of her skill. From once failed spells, to now being close to victory. Exhilarating, really.

It seemed to Artemis that the young Slytherin who was now being healed on the sidelines was one of the hard hitters in this duel. Though @Phaedra Stavrou was a harder hitter herself, she wisely chose to dodge this round. Unfortunately, the attack aimed at her coming from @Bridget Collins flew straight by her ear and toward her partner, who artfully dodged the oncoming spell herself. @Lana Monet attempted to send her own spell back at the younger girl but her own spell missed as @Bridget Collins skillfully side-stepped the spell that would make her dance like a loon for a spell. It was a wonderful display of skill from the two duelists.

Now to only see if their spells would connect properly in the next round.

She missed. Again. None of her spells were even coming close enough to force Phaedra to dodge; instead, the jet of blue light veered towards Lana and shot harmlessly between them. Her frustration was growing and she had no outlet for it.

It appeared the only thing she could do today was dodge. The Slytherin was prepared to deal with two spells coming her way, but only one did, and the younger girl's spell was easily avoided. It looked like the older Ravenclaw had opted to focus solely on dodging, further proving Bridget's suspicion she'd taken a lot of damage from Santario. Not that it mattered if she couldn't aim properly.

Readying her wand once more, Bridget dug the fingernails of her free hand into her palm. She was frustrated, but this was still a duel and she was still in it. What could she do but keep casting?

xxxShe assumed the match would have gotten easier after knocking out Santario, but the added difficulty of trying to stay standing shattered any hope of that. Lana seemed fine on her own, so Phaedra prioritized herself; only feeling safe enough to dodge. It was a waste of energy since Bridget’s spell flew between them, but another chance in the game was an appreciated one. They couldn’t afford to slip up now after getting this far and letting time tick by without action was allowing opportunity to slip between her fingers.

With her previous Tarantallegra just barely whizzing by Bridget, Lana figured she'd become too cocky. Though as a mere second passed by, she noticed Bridget's spell coming in the direction of herself. She stepped to side quickly, ducking her head out of instinct. There was no need to become discouraged, though. There was still plenty of room to win.

This round was similar to the last, except each spell aimed at an opponent actually stayed on course. Luckily for each girl, @Lana Monet managed to dodge out of the way before @Bridget Collins's Expelliarmus managed to smack into her hand to knock her wand out of it. Bridget herself was quick on her own feet and managed to escape a wicked-looking Tickling Charm aimed at her. @Phaedra Stavrou was playing it safe and was smartly preparing her feet to quickly evade anything coming her way, either by her opponent or by her own partner by accident again. The other two girls were at full health so unless someone managed to connect with their opponent, this group would be here all night.

Artemis had to wonder if he should have brought his blanket and pillow with him.

Phaedra was clearly the bigger threat, but if the older girl had deemed dodging an appropriate strategy, it made sense that she would keep that up. So, instead of lining her wand up at Phaedra, Bridget shifted it so it was aimed at the younger girl. This would be the first spell purposely cast at Lana in the entire duel and Bridget hoped that would lend to Lana being caught off guard.

She wasn't caught off guard and the spell missed, but Bridget couldn't help but feel a little proud. Normally she wouldn't think much either way about a spell her opponent managed to dodge, but for how things were going, she was happy with the fact Lana had been forced to dodge at all. As the girl sent a spell of her own Bridget's way, this time the Tickling Charm, she again side-stepped out of the way. Not to her surprise, Phaedra didn't divert any attention to casting this time as well.

For how fast many of the other duels she'd watched had gone downhill after the first person went down, this one seemed rather at a standstill. Nothing much was happening beyond missed spells. She was still standing, so that was something, and so long as she was standing, she had time to turn this around.

She was certainly surprised when she came to see that Bridget aimed for her, though her quick reflexes dodged it in plenty of time. Still, was she coming to target her now? It made some sense, she figured, though still hard to tell if it was a strategy tactic. Lana's watched her own spell pass by the older girl just merely, quite disappointing to her hopes of showing her worth. Either way, at least they were making progress. Her first duel had yet to be proved a disaster.

Well, this was going absolutely nowhere. Phaedra braced to avoid a spell that never came in her direction, and let out a breath after seeing Lana seamlessly sidestep it. Expelliarmus—clever, she had to admit. At this point, it was evident that Bridget's strong suit was her agility. She narrowed her brows in contemplation, drawing up ideas of how to deal with that and quickly, now that Bridget had fired at her partner.
I requested an extension from Artemis. Sorry this one was whipped up fast.
