2020, Stage 1 Group D: Ravenclaw vs Slytherin

A silver stream of Rictusempra hit her in the stomach. Phaedra's knees buckled and with a sharp inhale through her nose, she doubled over, clinging to her sides as the muscles there involuntarily spasmed. It had taken until now, but the constant tanking of damage was beginning to take its toll, her eyes watering from the intensity of Santario's tickling spell and still dazed from the wind. She brought a hand to her mouth in an attempt to stifle her giggling; the laughter clashed terribly against the growing scowl on her face. She disliked being tickled then as a child, and absolutely loathed it now.

The duel wasn't looking favourable, but it was very much still possible to turn things around, especially since she would only take one hit this round. In situations like this, one had to take their blessings wherever they could get them and she watched, gratefully, as Bridget's spell flew high over her head with no dodging necessary. Phaedra forced herself taller and steadied her breathing. Now was her chance.

Phaedra aimed her wand between the two Slytherin, narrowing her eyes in concentration. To anyone standing behind her it would seem as if she were going to miss completely but the prefect had practiced hard for this. Between gasps, Phaedra managed to say, "...Expelliarmus!" and a flash of red shot out from her wand. In mid-air, it split into two, and directed off to the sides, effectively hitting Santario and then Bridget. Finally! A hit, and double at that. @Lana Monet missed her own shot, but now that their opponents were disarmed, she and her partner would have some time to act.

The question for them now was; play it safe or get aggressive?

Apparently her teammates last words hadn't registered for Lana, as she seemed to cast her spell in the wrong direction anyway. Granted, not as bad as last time, though still at an unintended target. Alas, as it always did, what do you think happened? A dodge from miss Santario's end, as why wouldn't there have been? She knew it was obvious to others that her frustration was present, her short-tempered personality not able to withstand such disappointment. Her eyes drifted back to Phaedra, wondering how on earth she'd done it. Unfazed and.. calm? Lana supposed that was something she could take note of.

The casting of Rictumsempra landed on Phaedra, her giggling mixed with what seemed to be digust and annoyance. It'd be wise of her to help, though how? Her eyes darted away, spells racking her own brain. Oh how she should have paid attention in Vernatis' class.

Though, if they were going to do something, now was their chance. Lana watched the wands knock out of her opponent's hands, thankful for whatever god brought it upon them. It was getting tense now, the duel truly commencing. Lana and her teammate had a few ways they could go about this, play it nice and cast something particularly easy, or completely go for it. It seemed her past attempts at going for such a useful spell had always failed, though they could have just been the luck of the draw? She didn't know, she just didn't know.

Well, well. Miss @Lana Monet finally managed to land a hit on her opponent after two tries of accidentally attacking someone than she initially intended. @Santario Martin had rushed to the wand that she had finally located but before she could turn around to see the spell flying at her, she was smacked in the upper back by the Flipendo shooting her way, pushing her entirely on the floor. Thankfully, the wind wasn't knocked out of the girl and she was able to stand up and look at the Ravenclaw who had managed to land a hit on her.

Was revenge in the stew tonight?

@Bridget Collins also successfully managed to find her wand and released a gasp when her partner was hit with that Knockback Jinx. It was quite a shock to the other girl as Santario had managed to avoid so many spells aimed at her, but after losing their wands, it seemed that the girl was losing her luck. Would that happen to Bridget too?

@Phaedra Stavrou was more concerned about canceling the effects of that Tickling Charm and successfully cast the counter spell to rid herself of the giggling fit she was having, even though the current chortling fit she was going through. She was a more poised and refined student. Giving into laughing fits were just not in her style.

- A discrepancy in the health was brought to my attention and I altered Bridget Collin's health to represent her current stamina of 6. Her health was reduced to 600 from 800.

Santario finally caught a hint of that cherrywood just a few feet off behind her, and she scrambled for it. It was a magic duel, after all, and not having your wand in your hand rendered you useless and an easy target. Just as she grasped her wand in her hand, she felt a force on her back, knocking her down. Just catching herself with her hands, her nose hovered over the ground. She quickly popped herself up and turned around. Looking at her opponents.

However, she did not glare at them; that wasn’t in her nature. In this situation, it was a fair duel after all, and they were not real enemies, just temporary ones. No, in fact, the first real hit against their team brought a sinister mischievous twinkle to her sapphire eyes as excitement and adrenaline further flooded her veins. The corner of her lips played with a smile, intensifying the look in her eyes as she retook her place and levied her wand at her opponents.

It didn't take Bridget very long to find her wand, and thankfully it hadn't gone too far. With a quick check to make sure she wasn't about to be nailed with a spell, she hurried over to the length of wood and ducked down to pick it up. The motion was quick and fluid; she really didn't want to look away from her opponents for long.

Neither of the Ravenclaws aimed for her, though, and Bridget retreated back to her original stance. The same could not be said of Santario. Lana had finally landed a spell, but the Knockback Jinx, despite certainly being painful, didn't seem to phase her teammate. If anything, Santario looked more determined than ever as she stood back up, wand in hand. Bridget gave her a short nod before turning her full attention back to the duel.

As if she'd been waiting her entire match to do it, her spell had finally hit. The incantation "Flipendo!" had erupt from her mouth, wand pointed confidently on Santario. She watched the girl trying to pick up her wand mid cast, though she'd soon been knocked down again. Lana refused to get cocky, though, because truly it was a lucky chance they'd gotten.

She still hadn't been targeted yet, though she figured her time was ticking slowly. It was only an amount of time where one of the teammates would be taken out, but which one would it be?

Still, she focused again, already sure of what'd she'd do next. Part of her wondered if there'd be bad blood among the two teams afterwards, though she figured not. It was only a duel, right? One of them would be knocked unconcious and then they'd both be able to laugh about it afterwards. Either way, her muse to win had not faltered yet.

It was smart of Lana to take the opportunity to strike Santario; that girl was giving them the most trouble this entire duel. Although Phaedra and her teammate had gotten off to a rather rocky start—she was still wary of another close instance of friendly fire—they seemed to move in more unison now, feeding off of another in an efficient manner. The fourth year knew more spells that could disadvantage and Lana could chip away at them. It was a solid plan, but they couldn't get complacent now. Things were getting intense. "Nice one," Phaedra said. She was known to be stubborn, but she'd give praise where they were due.

As the two Slytherin stood distracted, searching for their wands, Phaedra aimed a counter-spell at her feet. Tempting was the idea of casting a jinx at their opponents again, but she couldn't concentrate with the tightness in her sides and shortness of breath. With a pleased sigh, the feeling instantly vanished, and the prefect was ready to give her all again. A clear mind would be needed for her next move.

Artemis watched as the spellfire moved all across the platform. Each spell minus one managed to connect to their target and it was quite a round! Although @Bridget Collins didn't manage to land her spell on her target, she did manage to dodge the spell aimed at both her and her teammate that came from the oldest member of this duel, @Phaedra Stavrou. The older Ravenclaw sustained a mighty blow from the Flipendo that came from @Santario Martin but her returned spell with her own Flipendo managed to connect with the younger girl.

It seemed the Knockback Jinx was a team favorite on both sides as another Flipendo came from @Lana Monet aimed at the Slytherin and hit @Santario Martin in her stomach. Though the attack wasn't a critical blow, it still managed to knock the girl down to the platform. Artemis raised his hand to halt the duel and called in a stretcher to remove the girl from the stage where any of her aches or pains could be tended to.

The duel was now a 2v1, but it was still anyone's game.

Phaedra was a beast in and of herself, making her a formidable opponent and force to be reckoned with. Truth be told, Santario was surprised that she or they had lasted this long against her but then add in that odd girl that was affecting them as well. Needless to say, Santario was flabbergasted that they had survived this long. Santario’s flippendo streamlined for Phaedra; the goal had been to double team her to take her out, but only one blue light went Phaedra’s way, and once more, Santario felt a little betrayed at Bridget’s failure.

Santario knew she was going to be a prime target because it seemed like somehow, she wasn’t as affected by Lana as Bridget seemed to be for whatever reason; maybe it was the company she kept. It was the smart move on their end, but Santario couldn’t help but feel betrayed a little as the first flipendo hit her; she grit her teeth against the pain and dropped to a knee, breathing hard. Her sapphire eyes glared at Bridget, and if they could scream anything, it would be Finish this as she braced for the second spell. The second flipendo crashed into her seconds later, eliciting a cry of pain from the young snake’s mouth. Santario had been beaten down too far and couldn’t hold it in anymore as darkness took her.

Bridget had been trying to stay calm, to stay confident. She just had to keep casting and surely she would find her rhythm. She couldn't let things get to her because that would only mess her up more. But she was getting frustrated. Not at anyone else, really, but at herself. What was she doing wrong? It wasn't like she hadn't been practicing, because she had definitely been practicing. She'd been at every team training, had even put in extra work on her own time.

If there was one feeling she absolutely loathed, it was feeling useless, and she was undeniably useless right now. She couldn't land a hit; heck, she couldn't even get close. The blue light of her spell had gone wide and Phaedra hadn't even had to dodge it. And perhaps worst of all, she couldn't do anything but watch as Santario got nailed with two Flipendos. After three hard Knockback Jinxes, she could hardly blame her teammate for going down. She couldn't tell if the look her teammate gave her was just out of pain or actually a glare, but Bridget was leaning more towards a glare. As if disappointing herself wasn't bad enough, she'd let down her teammate.

She watched as Santario was carried off on a stretcher, a brief respite from the duel. She had to win this to prove herself, but honestly, she wasn't sure she could. She'd been in a two versus one situation before and had watched plenty of them yesterday. They didn't tend to go well. Obviously she was at a disadvantage in terms of numbers, though Santario had left her with a slight advantage. Bridget hadn't been hit yet with anything painful and Phaedra had taken three spells, two of which were more powerful. Of course, there was still the issue of her not being able to land a hit.

Gritting her teeth, Bridget turned back towards the duel. She was alone. She was doing terribly so far. She certainly wasn't going to cry or anything, but she couldn't stamp out the frustration either. Maybe it would serve as fuel, though. Maybe she could still pull this off. At any rate, she had to try. She owed that much to Santario.
