Almost a week since the incident down at the Lake, and still the bitter feelings of pain and anger lingered, following Ivy around as she tried to get on with life. It was just too embarrassing the way she had acted that day - crying, pleading, tugging at a boy's sleeve in the rain - something straight out of a trashy romance novel. It would have been funny if it wasn't so humiliating. She hated how much it had affected her, how much it hurt to think about it.

To make matters worse, that day had also been the first time she and May had spoken for months - and to put things simply, it had not gone well. In the back of her mind, Ivy knew she was completely at fault for what their friendship had become. May had tried to keep in touch, at the very least. She really had. There had been multiple letters, all of which Ivy had stuffed underneath her bed to look at "later". Later never came - there was always some new book to read, or an essay to write, or gossip to catch up on. It didn't help that they didn't share a single class together, and eventually... well, it looked like May had stopped trying.

Some days, Ivy was on the verge of apologising to the Hufflepuff. Other days, irritation seeped through her cracks and she wanted to yell at May... for being so innocent in this matter. For being right. It made no sense, she knew - but Ivy hated being wrong. She strived for perfection. Perfection meant no mistakes, and in this matter, she had made a massive mistake. In the Gryffindor's overly dramatic mind, May symbolised everything she had done wrong this year. Every unnecessary insult, every person she had hurt, every bad grade. Every. Damn. Mistake.

And today... it was one of those days. She was so pissed off - and the funny thing was, it wasn't even at May. It was just at... the world in general. And, well, May just happened to be in her line of vision as she stormed out into the courtyard. Yes, she would admit that she was looking for trouble today. Grey eyes bright with cold fury and a retort already leaving her lips, she advanced upon her ex-friend, footsteps quick and light. "Ruin anymore friendships in the past few days, May?" she spat, unable to help herself. "I would think that you'd make a little more effort not to be such a stickynose, especially after last Saturday."

Since the day that she lost her best childhood friend, May felt empty. She couldn't talk to anyone, and she needn't make a effort to evade anyone that approached her. "I'm sorry, I've got to go." were the only words she had to say to make people get away from her. Even thought she wasn't very busy, she had decided that the only way to make the world change was to be alone in her room. When her roommate came in, she always made an excuse to get out of the place, for she wanted to be alone. Anything that would distract her from 'reading' or 'studying' was going to take her to the verge of tears.

Why thought? Well, it may be silly. But the small badger didn't think it was her fault Ivy stopped talking to her.

Yes, she did think she had played a part. Not having the courage to go and say "hi" the day after the sorting made everything worse than it already was.

Both girls had stopped talking, and clearly had made other friends to hang out with, but May couldn't help looking at Ivy and get absorbed into her thoughts of going to talk to her, but something hung her back. A boy with a Irish accent always stepped in, blocking Ivy from May's view, and taking away every single chance of going to talk to her, ask her why they weren't in touch anymore, or start a conversation.

Well, it seemed like the Gryffindor had found a new friend. Jealousy poured over May's face and a ugly grimace or frown came into view as she looked at the pair talk. Why would she be jealous? May was talking to other people too. They weren't connected anymore, the string that connected their friendship had simply broken apart, and May couldn't do anything about it. There was no way May was going to talk to Bellamy. Not ever again.

But look there. Ivy and the Irish boy- what was his name? Zykeal Lane. Or better known to May as 'Irish boy' or 'Lane boy'. He was trash, the thing that had broken May's relationship with Ivy, May thought, and she couldn't let him go.

He had made other things too, to make May so angry and disgusted. He had encouraged a pink-haired girl to open Ariana Walkers diary and made them all discover why this other Gryffindor girl was so sad about. But May couldn't help but want to hit him in the face with her Martial Art skills, and sucker punch him in the stomach.

Still thinking about what happened in the Great Lake on May 2nd, she went to the courtyard to go and look at the small fountain. She was thinking of Ivy when a extremely and annoying familiar voice:

"Ruin anymore friendships in the past few days, May?" Ivy Bellamy said, practically running, a extremely angry look in her face. Not surprising, but very scary. "I would think that you'd make a little more effort not to be such a stickynose, especially after last Saturday."

May rolled her eyes and a disgusted smirk spread the Hufflepuff's face. "Oh of course! That's so damn typical of me isn't it? I expect you dumped another childhood friend and stopped talking to her for months. After that, you encounter again, and the innocent girl tries to help you out with a romantic case and then it all goes wrong and you tell her it's all. Her. Fault."

May closed the book she held in her lap and stood up. She gave Ivy a cold smile. Approaching her slightly, she looked down at her shoes. Then, into her eyes. She hadn't been so close to the Gryffindor for a long time- maybe almost a year. "Suddenly, you decide to talk to me, when you didn't even dare the last months to even approach me. Now, please leave me alone. I preferred not having to talk to you, you know." May stepped back, and seated herself down again, and opened her book, not even reading it. She didn't want to look at Ivy's face. She didn't want to talk to her ever again.

Ivy had to admit, she hadn't expected May to yell back at her. The surprise registered on her face for a split second and she took a step back, grey eyes widening. May had always been the calmer one. When the two of them ran around the village, the adults had always preferred May - not because the Hufflepuff had lived there all her life or that Ivy was only a visitor, but because May was... May. Sweet, lovely, precious May.

The disgusted smirk on her former friend's face felt so wrong, and Ivy only just managed to stop herself from slapping it off. It was like looking at a completely new person. The Gryffindor forced herself to look May in the eye, straightening her posture and the cold, furious expression returning. How dare she mention Zyk? How dare she call herself innocent? Perhaps in the case of Ivy and May's friendship, she was innocent, but not for the downfall of her and Zyk's relationship.

"You actually believe you were innocent, May?" she spat. "Because you. Were. Not. Innocent. You think it went wrong? Well, it did - but it was because of you. If you hadn't been there, Zyk and I would have been fine. If you weren't there, we would have talked things over properly, calmly, handled things in a mature way. But - no! You had to come in and ruin things, didn't you? You just had to rush in and start yelling!"

That wasn't actually what had happened, if Ivy remembered correctly, but she honestly didn't care right now. Her heart was pounding her ears and tears were beginning to form in her eyes. Her fury only increased when May put her book up in front of her face, as if that could somehow block everything out. Ivy reached up and snatched the book from her, fuming at May's last words. How could she not understand? "I was busy, May. You know my parents! They don't want me at Hogwarts. You know they would have sent me away if I didn't keep my grades up. How can you be so - so selfish?"

What? That May wasn't innocent? More anger boiled inside the Hufflepuff as Ivy talked. She closed her eyes and looked away. She just couldn't stand it. It wasn't fair for her. When the Gryffindor snatched her book out of her own hands, May felt more anger sliding through her throat and lungs, she wanted to yell at her, rip her off limb to limb. Everything had changed. Ivy didn't want to be with her anymore. She wanted to be with Zykeal Lane, and not with her. Their relationship had been broken, never to be mended again.

Start yelling? What was Ivy talking about? She had been the one that had started pleading to the Irish boy, pleading him to stop that silliness. May shook her head. Ivy was wrong. She was out of her mind. If Ivy would have been able to enter her body, her soul, her mind, and be her, May, then she wouldn't be saying all of this. "Stop this nonsense Ivy." she said, her voice fierce, the anger in her voice showing in every word. Her temper rising, she snatched the book out of Ivy's hands, again. "You like Zykeal Lane, that's why you prefer him over me. Your blind, blinded by love. Love, sweet love, the energy that makes people love each other. Your an idiot and so is he. You don't know what I feel. It's much worse than having to move to the French school." May rolled her eyes, almost comically, and shook her head, again. She couldn't believe Ivy was doing this. Ivy, her best friend....the one that had been with her all the time, in the village, in the forest....the girl that had revealed her that the wizarding world existed.

Selfish? She wasn't selfish? Everything was wrong. Everything the Gryffindor was saying was the contrary. She was being selfish, she was being the one that was hanging out with Gryffindors and leaving her, out there, all alone.

But May didn't like to put all the blame into others. No. She liked to observe herself too. And she had done it a lot. Oh yes. The problem was, she couldn't stop herself from talking to Ivy like that. It seemed like May's real personality had gone. Floated into another soul. Switched personalities with someone evil, someone sarcastic, and none friendly.

Now, May was crying. Trying to blink off her tears, May said, in a small trembling, very May-like voice: "Stop it Bellamy. You don't know what your doing. You're the selfish one. Please. Stop."
