Interacting with Rett Brooks [ @Willow Anderson ]
The tall blonde lad blinked for a few moments, before letting out a roaring laughter. "HAH! Ah, Retty-boi, ya killing me here, man..." The dunce of a child said, wiping a tear from his eye. "My bro, I was saying an ex-pressing-on," He said the last word with an odd type of pronunciation as if to exasperate his point. "You know? Like, saying something that's totally not what I really, like, mean..." The boy shook his head, still chuckling from his friend's small retort. "Bro, I dunno where you'd be without me to help ya...." He said, slapping his chest with his hand proudly, which unfortunately made the brush that was slathered in puke-like paint burst into a tar-like explosion on his shirt. "... Oh, whoops." Then the boy's gap-toothed mouth beamed into a cheery grin. "Oh, OH! Rettzilla! BRO!" He said, laughing happily as he pointed excitedly to his shirt. "LOOK, it looks EXACTLY like puke!" He says, now making puking faces to emphasize his amazing discovery.
But his happiness toned down as he saw Rett's focus is more inclined towards the ruckus that the Hogwarts girls were creating. Sounds like a big fight is popping up. "Dang, mundo yikes-ville over there. Good thing we ain't like that, huh, Rett-tatouille?"
Nevermind that, the Professor's handling that anyways. Colt has to focus on the banner after all! Though, Colt's head turned back to his comrade as he mentioned the nicknaming fiasco he kept doing naturally. "Oh..." For a moment, a frown was hidden in the corner of Colt's lips. But then he quickly hidden it with his usual goofy smile and a thumbs up. "Yeah, dude, it's no problem, Rett Atta--er, Rett! Ye, no problemito at all..." He paused for a moment. "... Can I still call you my bro though?"
Then Rett mentioned the fact that their school's Quidditch match was still a way's away. "Oop, double whoops." He laughed. "Ah well, at least I got a banner saved up for that day then!" Then his friend's voice turned into a sarcastically sweet tone as he mentioned the other schools. "Oh... duuuuuuuude!" He said, his voice turning into what sounded like drumsticks against a washboard for a moment. "Bro, you're RIGHT. I should cheer for that ywlloe team in Hogwarts!! I got BUCKETS of their yellow here!" And without hesitation, Colt immediately grabbed a second banner, and with a bucketful of Hufflepuff yellow, drowned the poor banner with the color. "Uh... What's that yellow house called again?"

Ariana had sprung up and shaken May quite violently by the shoulders, yelling at her despite the arrival of Professor Jensen. The rush of affection Ivy had felt for her fellow Gryffindor fell away at the claim she had done nothing to her, replaced with guilt. Ariana was wrong. Ivy had, admittedly, been a terrible friend to May... not that it mattered now. She should have known that this confrontation was bound to happen one way or another. She just hadn't expected it to happen now, in public and the day before the Quidditch match. "Leave it, Ariana," Ivy said quietly, finding her voice as she took a few shaky steps towards them. The Gryffindor lifted her head to look around quickly. Much to her embarrassment, she found that everyone seemed to have noticed the argument.
"We both deserved it, didn't we?"
Deserve what? The slap? The pain? What was May talking about? Ivy lifted her chin and stared at the Hufflepuff, tears forming in the corners of her eyes and fists clenched tight enough to leave marks in her palms. What had happened to them? No, that was the wrong question, wasn't it? Why had this happened to them? She was watching May talk, but she wasn't listening to her, the words she said going in one ear and out the other, until the name 'Zyk' popped up out of nowhere, stirring up yet another series of feelings Ivy thought she had buried.
"Then, you started hanging out with that Irish boy Zykeal and left me hanging alone."
Instinctively, Ivy shut her eyes, as if trying to squeeze out the pain and drown out May's words. But they were coming faster, cutting deeper, and there was no way to ignore her now. I didn't leave you alone. Not on purpose... I didn't mean to... It really hadn't been her intention to exclude May. It was just... things changed so quickly. Time passed too damn fast to keep up, and before they knew it, their friendship was ruined.
But nothing could prepare her for what came next.
"You should get a date with Zykeal soon. I'm sure it's going to be pretty romantic huh?"
Before she even knew what she was doing, Ivy took two quick steps forward and pushed May with both hands. It wasn't a very hard or powerful push, and the Hufflepuff would likely only stumble backwards for a second or two. "Stop! Stop! Stop!" Ivy's voice was strained from the effort of not crying. "Don't talk to me about Zyk! You know nothing of my relationship with him!" She glanced sideways at Ariana quickly, lip trembling. Ariana was the only person who knew - but now it appeared that it would be a secret no more. May had basically yelled it out for everyone to hear, and when Ivy noticed a very familiar blonde out of the corner of her eye, her heart dropped to the pits of her stomach. Her legs turned to jelly at Lizzie's words, and her heart leapt into her throat. Oh, shit. Shit shit shit. "Liz, please-"
But Lizzie had already fled the scene.
See what you've done?! she wanted to yell at May. But to do so would be unfair. The Hufflepuff would have no way of knowing the damage she had caused, and Ivy would never tell. With a choked sob, she turned to Professor Jensen, offering the only explanation she could. Ivy had ommitted the complicated history she, May and Zyk had together for a reason: it was too painful to delve back into.
How was it possible that this twelve year old was feeling her emotions so strongly? Her world seemed to be crashing down around her. She wanted to snap at Professor Jensen and Aurelia for asking if she was alright. What did they think? Everything had gone wrong today. But she knew there was no reason to lash out. They were only trying to help. So Ivy nodded, stretching her lips into a weak smile. "I'm ok."
She most definitely wasn't.
Ivy stayed silent as May was given a detention, her eyes fixed on the ground. She did not know what to think. May didn't seem sorry for her actions, not even a little bit - was Ivy supposed to be relieved that she was serving a detention now? Perhaps the Hufflepuff deserved it. In Professor Jensen's eyes, she apparently did. Ivy was even a little glad that May was getting what she deserved. But there was so much more to the story, so much she hadn't said... if she had told her the full story, would it be Ivy in detention as well? What would Professor Jensen think of her then?

Not knowing why, but it seemed that Lindsey had been late again.
First staying with Marshal and late for the BBQ, now the crafting activity. Though she did not really mind——at least something would still be left for her. Still having a hope of some paints were left, she ventured to the place. It was crowded, and seemed that someone was arguing there.
Arguing? It might be…one between Durmstrang and Hogwarts…those dudes seemed not easy to deal with. And there would be the match tomorrow, so maybe trying to have a physical fight with the Hufflepuff players was something the Russians would do. She took a look closer. There seemed was professor Jensen…and May. The two were someone she recognized in the crowd.
“May…?” she muttered to her friend, though May was still far away. She just wanted to…figure out what had just happened. No, this has nothing to do with the Durmstrang dudes. Clearly the one there were all Hogwartians, all whom she believed that she had met somewhere in the grand castle. She did not go near though. There was nothing to do with her, so, it might be the best that she stayed away. She knew that this would not be very appropriate if she wanted to save someone and knew the whole thing, but…
“We both deserved…” was that May?
“…you okay?” somehow sounded like Professor Jensen, but Lindsey wasn’t sure.
Until she saw May leaving. What happened? Why’s she dismissed? Questions came up one by one on Lindsey’s head. Something was happening. She was confused, really.
She decided to focus on some paint. Hufflepuff colors…she liked it. Maybe a banner for tomorrow’s match would be good? She also wanted to try some face paint, but only if she had time and found a partner. Lindsey looked around. Everyone seemed busy, talking or painting. The young badger carelessly picked up a pencil and began sketching. What was she drawing? A badger? Or a crown? She did not know. Maybe it would show up on it own later.
That was until she saw someone passed by. A boy, probably a Hogwarts student as well. Should she say hi to him…? Maybe. “Hey,” she greeted the boy pleasantly, “Would you like to paint together?”

Cassius would have looked quite lost as he meandered through the assembled crafting supplies and tables. The young Ravenclaw could not but help feel deja vu settle in as he recalled his last artistic outing in the Great Hall at Hogwarts a month or so ago. At least then he had some measure of an idea of what he wanted to paint. Here, though, he was lost.
He was far too proud and stubborn a boy to wear a rival house's colors, even if it was the house representing Hogwarts at the Quidditch match. Never would the badger best the raven in his mind nor would yellow be allowed to triumph over blue; but, he supposed there was nothing wrong a badger alongside the raven in alliance. So Cassius shifted over towards the painting table and set forth to gathering colors representative of all four houses of Hogwarts. Nestling the small bottles in his arm, he barely managed to carry them along with a cup of water in which a handful of paintbrushes shifted with each step. For a canvas he would need to make a second trip.
That was only the first difficulty he faced, however. Now he had to find an open spot to actually set all his things down. With awkward steps, he departed the paint table with care not to spill any of the bottles or paintbrushes he was carrying with him. A quick glance around the area did not yield too many open spaces. However, relief soon came with the sound of an unfamiliar voice.
"Hey. Would you like to paint together?"
Cassius turned towards the source of the voice, nearly dropping the yellow paint onto the grass in the process. That wouldn't be too big a loss, he thought to himself with a smirk that turned to a friendly grin when he saw Lindsey.
"Oh hi," he managed to say somewhat shyly but pleasantly enough. "Could I? I do not really know many people here..." he admitted, taking a few step forwards to place on the table all the supplies that had encumbered him. A deep breath of relief escaped his lips as he lowered himself onto one of the seats at the table. "My name's Cassius," he said with a renewed confidence, seemingly recovered from his previous shyness as he introduced himself.
The boy wore nothing that overtly gave away his status as a Hogwarts student, though one could assume he likely was from his accent. Leaning over slightly, he tried to make out the results of girl's sketching. "What are you drawing?" he asked curiously, trying to decipher what it was from his angle.

“Oh hello Cassius!” she smiled to the boy. “I’m Lindsey. It’s really nice to meet you.”
Things about May and Professor Jensen was thrown to the middle of nowhere as she began talking with Cassius. You could not blame her for it. No. She had nothing to do with those business, and she just wanted to have fun at the event peacefully, with someone she felt comfortable to stay along with.
Something struck her when Cassius said that he did not know many people around. Lindsey suddenly felt not very good, and the question banged in her head again and again. I do not know many people here… Did she know many people? The answer was a no. A big no.
She had always regarded herself as a good friend maker. But, really? She had to ask herself the question. So far, a lot acquaintances were made. A lot. But she just did not know anyone well. Could she count on them when she’s in danger? Maybe not. They would aid her, which would be for sure, but would probably not stand beside her to the last minute.
Headache…
Her pencil was still sketching fast though. But what was she thinking? Nothing maybe. Or everything. Human minds were probably one of the most magnificent thing in the world. You would not know what would happen next minute. You’d never know.
She was barely listening when Cassius asked her what was she drawing. “Um…? What am I drawing…?” she muttered, and repeated, since she was not really understanding the words. “Oh, a badger I guess.” finally Lindsey had gotten back from her own thoughts. But somehow, she was still sinking.
No. Don’t…be yourself…it’s okay…you’d find more friends next year…friends instead of acquaintances…you could do it one day…
Suddenly something made her come back. The shiny yellow paint in Cassius’s hands. The color was so bright, and it made her to notice that she’s one of the badgers. One of the stubborn, and proud army. She could do better, maybe?
“This part is done. Though a badger’s definitely not yellow, I’m planning to make it wear a black and yellow scarf,” she said, pretty much back to her normal self. Her change was fast, and the girl hoped that Cassius would not notice it.
She quickly drew a scarf around the badger’s neck. “Don’t know much about your skills…come on, my friend, maybe you’d like to add some other images on this banner?” she said in a rather teasing tone, while taking some yellow paint to add on the scarf. “Oh, forgot to say…I’m a Hufflepuff myself. But you are probably not, right? Why not add some of your house symbols and colors on it?”

“Do you have anything to add, Miss Evans?”
Sky had to admit that the heat was making her feel a little woozy. It seemed she had zoned out for a few seconds, merley snatching glimpses of what was going on around her. She opened her mouth to speak, but was distracted by May and Ariana. Well, mostly Walker. The girl seemed to be violently shaking the hufflepuff as though she were a ragdoll. Sky expression didn't really suit the sight she was seeing, for it was a rather amused one. It was admittedly great to see two of her enemies fighting. She had to admit that Ariana could be rather brash though, and as May seemed rather fragile and dainty, Sky was relatively surprised that she could withstand the violent shaking of the angry gryffindor. “I-er…” She turned back to Professor Jensen. “Yes. I do have something to say.” What a wonderful time to get back at Walker for all the stupid things she had done to her in the past. Yet, would she take this choice? After all, it didn't seem as though Ariana had done enough this time round to deserve punishment. Pity.
“I must say, I think Walker rather caused this scene in the first place.” She started, “Her adamant yelling and ‘bravado acts’ of jumping in to save her friends, well…” She looked Miss Jensen right in the eye. “I think it only stirred the argument even more.” Knowing that if Ariana was concentrating enough to hear her she would most likely not survive the next 10 seconds in silence, she spoke again, her pace of speech a little faster than it had been before. “That said, I intuitively walked away before such a scene would escalate any further. I must say, it didn't look pretty once I'd left.” Her tones laced with haughty pride, she completely skipped the part where she had stirred Ariana's yelling and chose to stay silent after that. Her expression was subtle, though inside she felt rather triumphant. Undoubtedly petty of her, she knew. However, Walker didn't exactly have a clean record in her book. So, Sky didn't feel there was any harm in deepening the scar. The girl was a notorious trouble maker for sure, at least in her opinion. Full proof that stupidly pretty faces didn't exactly get you everywhere. Although, in Skys case, this was entirely different.
There was also the case of Walkers friend, Bellamy. Now to begin with, in Skys opinion, Moonstar had looked quite stupid throughout the whole thing. The snake had caught various tentative words and phrases throughout the dramatic speech that the hufflepuff had put forward, and had concluded it to childish jealousy. The whole thing seemed messed up. One the conversing between Ivy and May had rendered itself silent, Sky spoke up again. “Jackson decided to show herself to the party, the two [Ariana and Janet] were acting quite cold and it seemed to spike curiosity. Then Walker started yelling about my curious comment regarding this, and the hufflepuff girl seemed to think that the paint was more important than the yelling. The other gryffindor girl wasn't exactly helping either, she defended Walker and marched off with her, that's when the hufflepuff girl decided to stupidl- to slap her in the face.”
After this she would take a step back, concealing the prideful smirk that was threatening to spill. Yes, they could feel free to call her a snitch, but at least she had gotten her vengeance, for now.

If Cassius had noticed a change in the girl’s demeanor he did not acknowledge it. Rather, he seemed fixated on the banner she was illustrating. “I like it. Badgers are rather fierce animals. A fitting competitor to those Durmstrang brutes,” he said, tone pleasant but contrasted by a slight scowl he directed towards any Durmstrang students sitting in their vicinity. “I do not like them very much. They seem quite rude and swear far too often to be civilized company.” The words would seem rather unfitting for a twelve year old boy. Rather, it would sound as if he were simply restating things he had overheard from his parents. However, whatever disdain he held for one of the rival schools, he did not direct any towards his own classmates.
“A Hufflepuff, huh? I’m a Ravenclaw. Our quidditch team isn’t that good but that’s okay. At least we get to root for Hogwarts. Are you excited for the match?” The boy’s words and question seemed genuine as he began to organize the myriad of paints and supplies he had grabbed from the craft table. Each vial and cup was meticulously placed and organized in front of him with even the colors placed in their proper color spectrum order. Finally, the paint brushes were arranged parallel to one another and in size order.
When the girl offered to allow him to add to the banner, he tapped his chin thoughtfully, oblivious to the fact that his hand had been resting in some wet paint just a moment before. “What should I add…?” He thought aloud, considering the colors in front of him. When his hand was finally withdrawn from his face to grab a paintbrush, a pseudo-goatee was left in its place giving the dark haired boy a rather bright yellow chin.
“Maybe an eagle will help the badger win,” he said, taking the paintbrush and dipping it into a smear of blue paint that he would have poured in front of him. “A blue eagle soaring above keeping an eye out for any foul play Durmstrang has planned. I do not think badgers need protection but at least the eagle will be there to help if help is needed. That’s what we should do for friends.”
The boy’s focus remained on the banner as he spoke. Leaning slightly towards Lindsey, he began to paint a small eagle with rather simplified features above the badger. His work would clearly not win any art awards but with the wings spread and beak defined, it would be clear to all that it was indeed an eagle with talons and all.

Rett winced back at the loudness of Colt's laughter, surely bringing even more attention to the two of them within the crafting tent now that the slapping drama was calming down. He almost wanted to try and hide, or straight up leave. But something about the bumbling Pukwudgie kept him glued to the bench. "Mm, yes. It is definitely you that helps me, and not the other way around. I'm glad we have that figured out." Another flinch as Colt slapped his chest to create... yeah. Something that looked exactly like puke. "You are a unique artist, this is for damn sure."
An eyebrow raised at yet another new nicknamed, he didn't seem to get this one though. "Rett a what?" His eyes couldn't help but soften when he caught Colt looking sad for a split second about dropping the additions to his name. After all... he was just having fun right? The serpent shook his head and turned to look at the table. "Ah, you know what. Forget it. Call me whatever you want. Colt..." A heavy pause. "-arino." He cringed inwardly at his joining in with the foolish nicknames. But, he did have an incredibly soft spot for this boy. He would just never admit it to his face.
While there was a soft spot, that didn't stop him from throwing in a prank or two whenever he got the chance. Especially when Colt forgot the name of one of the teams that were there. "Oh, it's Gruffleplum obviously. I can't believe you would forget something like that my... bro." Might as well throw in a bro to throw him off if he had any suspicion that Rett was throwing him off. But with how painfully trustworthy Colt was, he didn't see that being a problem.

Goodness what she would give to have someone — anyone — from her group there with her to help her through the conversation. To her credit, though, she hadn't tucked tail and retreated from the scary foreign boy. Admittedly, it did annoy her somewhat to find herself in such a position of dependence on others just to be able to communicate. Such a simple thing. It wasn't necessarily something that she entirely took for granted, of course.
With so many languages spoken by the various students at Durmstrang, it was very common to pass by a conversation in the hall that would go completely over her head (not that that was difficult given her stature), but there was usually at least one language in common by which with which one might converse. It gave her an increasing appreciation for her mother who had mastered likely more than a dozen languages during her travels of Europe. It was frustrating for Greta to find herself in such a vulnerable position. And one that left her feeling entirely inadequate and not at all the shining representation that her parents expected of her. But what better way to learn than to jump right in?
There'd been a moment, however, where she was quite certain that her so obvious status as a foreigner was about to scare the other boy away. She couldn't quite place the look he'd given her. It seemed similar to that which she'd probably given the rabbits in the woods that had gotten caught in the traps and still gave a pitiful struggle right before they were collected for stew. That's what she was. A rabbit ensnared in a funny world with people giving her strange looks and talking to her in tones she could barely understand.
Only, he didn't run. In fact, he didn't even crack a smirk. If he was mocking her at all, he didn't show it. Something for which she was very grateful, for she wasn't sure she would have been able to keep trying, stumbling over her words as she had been, if he had. When she'd finally finished, she flashed him a nervous smile before it faltered and her shoulder curved forward as though she were trying to sink back into herself for protection. Even the, though, he acted as though it was all perfectly normal, only confirming her first guess, that he was Hogwarts.
"Hogwarts.." she repeated quietly, more to herself as though practising. It wasn't as though she hadn't known about the school previously, but she'd never really had reason to say it out loud before. It didn't flow very nicely. Then a moment later, "Ehm.. Yes.. Durmstrang." She mirrored his actions to point to herself.
But his next question gave her pause. The fingers at her chest plucked uncertainly at the fabric there as she mouthed her way through the question. How old are you. Even after several attempts, however, she couldn't quite place what it was that he was asking of her and flashed him an apologetically embarrassed smile, muttering, "Sorry… I… ehm… I do not understand one." But there had been a second question, and in that, she at least picked out the word 'year'. "I am two year.." Was that how you said it? But then the boy continued and she realised she had made a mistake. "Ah, ehm.. I am… ehm no… I finish sec… second? Second year."
Not realising that the way he had worded his sentence was speaking of the future rather than the past or present (tenses are hard), Greta's smile relaxed, growing just a slight bit more earnest. They were the same year! To add to that small dose of giddiness, she finally realised, with the help of his second statement, what it was that he'd been asking her in the first question.
"How old are you…" she repeated quietly to herself, reflecting on what he'd said. "Ehm.. I am…" Her gaze flicked down to her fingers that started to move up one by one, then down again as she mumbled in English, one.. Two.. Three… "I am… ehm.. elven years old." She held up one and one on each of her fingers, chewing on her lips to restrain a crooked smile.
Her smile was short-lived, however, expression flooding with confusion and a veil of apprehension then when he spoke again. She understood the words well enough. He was asking her if she wanted to do something. But the 'what' that she understood was not at all the what that he tried to portray. As it happened, 'draw' was a word she knew. It was commonly used in duelling to signal the unsheathing of wands and the start of the contest. By the way he raised his hand and circled it about in the air, as though casting a spell, it only served to cement that notion in her head.
Was he… did he want to duel? She eyed him warily, glance flickering in the direction of his latter pointing. Over there? Having been drawn by curiosity and tempted by the sweets, she hadn't really come here with the intent to practice her spell work. But it wasn't at all uncommon a practice back home… And it might be interesting to see how students at Hogwarts had been trained. She cast a furtive glance about. Noone else seemed to be duelling, though. Although… there did appear to be some sort of scuffle going on nearby. Maybe that's what the professors were here for? To oversee any challenges? Greta chewed thoughtfully on her lips for a few more minutes trying to decide.
"Okay," she answered, finally, turning back to him with a nod, resolve smoothing the apprehension from her features. The hand that had been plucking at the chest of her dress dropped to a pocket to pull from it her twisted vine wood wand as she made to make her way over to where he had indicated for their duel.

Aaron nodded as Greta confirmed that she was from Durmstrang, as he had suspected. The only other school he knew was there was Ilvermorny, and they all spoke English since they came from America. Even though Durmstrang were meant to be the enemy, that only applied once he was in the air at the stadium. Besides, this girl probably wasn't part of the Quidditch team. He knew there were students here that weren't players, and she didn't seem at first glance like a Quidditch player. But at that thought, Aaron wondered if he himself gave off the impression of a Quidditch player. He stood up a little straighter subconsciously.Interacting with Greta Fransson (@Evelynn Decipio)
His mind was drawn away from thoughts of Quidditch when Greta spoke again. She said she was finishing her second year! Oh, so she was older then? He was starting to get used to the idea of girls who were shorter also being older. He wished he knew why, because it was very confusing. Immediately after this thought, though, she added that she was actually eleven years old (it took a bit of work to not giggle at her saying elven, because that was honestly funny!). How was she eleven but finishing second year? How did the system work in Durmstrang? He wanted to ask for clarity, but worried she would not understand again, so he just left it at that. So she was eleven and going into her third year at Durmstrang! Definitely interesting. And she seemed more eager to talk now that she seemed to be making sense of his questions!
But then when he gestured in the air asking if she wanted to draw, her expression seemed to show confusion. That's why he pointed out the crafting station nearby, but she still seemed a bit hesitant. Maybe she wasn't very artsy, so she didn't like drawing? Aaron himself wasn't artistic at all, but he was just trying to suggest a way to communicate better, but maybe she didn't understand that. After a few minutes of her biting her lip apprehensively, Aaron was tempted to just back down and let her go find her own friends. Maybe he had been pushing it to suggest they continue to hang out with this huge language barrier between them. Just as he was about to back off and say goodbye, though, Greta agreed!
Aaron's own smile returned and he nodded happily, a bit relieved that she was willing to continue to talk. He was very interested in what they could communicate through drawings. Even those as awful as Aaron's. Greta began to lead the way, and he fell into step behind her. His head tilted slightly seeing her remove her wand from her pocket, but he didn't really think anything of it. Maybe she knew a charm that could make the markers draw on their own! She was almost a third year after all, and probably had a few tricks up her sleeve.
As they reached the crafting area, though, Greta seemed to walk away from the table rather than towards it. Aaron hesitated as she passed it by. He stood next to one of the seats at the crafting table, keeping his eyes trained on her as he wondered what she was doing. "Are we going to draw?" he called after her, wondering if his original suggestion had actually gone over her head.
