After Iris set her apple cider down and had a moment to look around she noticed a few things.
The first thing that she noticed was that she didn't know very many people here. So because she didn't know very many people she felt like a statue standing there. Was she standing completely still? Was she remembering to breathe? She took a heavy and deep breath just to be sure. Then she nodded. Okay so she WAS remembering to breathe that's good.
The second that that she noticed was that people were arriving very quickly with all kinds of foods and she felt overwhelmed by the choices from pumpkin pie to chocolate chip cookies she had so many things to try and what felt like very limited time to actually try them. She scratched her head. What would she even try first? She looked at the table and how it seemed to be slowly filling up with goodies of all kinds.
Finally the third thing that she noticed is that she seemed to be one of the only people who brought something to drink. She chose to make apple cider. What if others didn't like apple cider though? What were they going to do then? What other drinks were there? What if her cider wasn't even any good and she had spent so much time making it for literally nothing.
She took a deep breath, shook her head to reset and then prepared herself for the party. She needed to get out, interact with other witches and wizards and get away from the snacks table. She's a second year now. She's been at Hogwarts for long enough she should be able to socialize. But why was it so hard to? She kept asking herself that over and over again. She let out a long sigh. Would she ever actually be able to leave the snack table?

Food: Chocolate Brownies

I had spent my entire morning making chocolate brownies and tasting them to see if they taste good. After two failed tries, I finally succeeded. The heavenly aroma of the brownies made my mouth watered. I learnt to make chocolate brownies from my mother when I was eight. Ever since then, when there's picnic or potlucks, I would bring chocolate brownies that I had made. But when I was ten, I stopped making them, so my baking skills had slipped." Ohno! The potluck is starting soon!!" I exclaimed." Time to get dressed." I thought.
I rummaged through my trunk. It was hard to find because my trunk is pretty packed. I noticed a white knee length silk dress but thought it wouldn't suit because I am going to a fall potluck. After some more rummaging, I finally found the perfect clothing for the occasion. It was an ankle long dress with yellow and orange flowers. " Hmm... Perfect!! I thought. Holding the tray of chocolate brownies, I walked towards the destinated place.
I arrived at the Hogwarts grounds, there was a slight breeze blowing at my face, it feel very relaxing, like swimming in a nice pool. There were students everywhere at the potluck and the decorations were truly breathtaking!! There were fairy lights strung across wooden poles, making the place looked magical. The brownish yellow leaves on the trees were blew by the breeze, they looked exactly like the patterns on my dress. There were also wooden benches full of students, holding platters of food everyone had brought. I carefully laid down the tray of brownies on the tablecloth, hoping nobody will bump into me. Among dozens of food, there were apple crumbles, blueberry tarts, cinnamon rolls and other mouth watering dishes.
There was also some games that I am not really familiar with. Students were clustered around there, lining up for different kind if games. I decided to look around other places for a bit. Among the crowds, I spotted Nessa, and she was holding a plate of blueberry tarts, they look scrumptious! Nessa looked like she was going to walk into my direction, and then she did. She asked me what food I had brought, so I brought her to the table, grabbed a plate and laid it with lots of chocolate brownies, some blueberry tarts and some apple crumble." I brought chocolate brownies, what about you?" I said. I placed a chocolate brownie from my plate and then into hers. We then ran towards the activities station and tried leaves pressing and after a while, we were hungry again. I grabbed some more apple crumbles and blueberry tarts. " I am off to explore for a bit." I told Nessa.
I noticed a girl which I assumed was a Ravenclaw standing sitting on the wooden benches by herself, she seems contented, but I approach her anyway. " Hi, I am Paisley, what is your name??" Without waiting for her to answer, I continued. "What food did you bring? I brought chocolate brownies. You should try some." I said. After we chatted for a few more while, I went to find Nessa, who were playing some of the activities there. I joined her and learned how to make corn-holes. It was a new experience for me, and fun too, because I had never made corn-holes before.
The stars in the sky was shining brightly, and I feel very contented. Sitting on the wooden benches and taking in the beautiful scene in front of me, I thought: " This is my best day ever, and Hogwarts is so magical, new friends, new knowledge and new experiences for me. I am so happy."

Jessica likely enjoyed the quiet sound of the leaves rustling as she walked. It was reassuring that Hogwarts changed with the coming of autumn without anyone needing to ask it to. The familiar stone walls looked softer in the golden light of mid-afternoon, and the curved paths were covered with leaves in tones of amber, burnt orange, golden yellow, and deep brown. The air also seemed altered, giving off the earthy smell of dropped leaves and wet soil each time a soft breeze went through the grounds.
Jessica had always believed that Hufflepuff was especially suitable for autumn.
It may have been the warmth connected with the season, or maybe it was merely that September made everything seem a bit more welcoming. The castle appeared more at home, the evenings were quieter, and there was always some reason why people should come together, share food, and enjoy each other's company. To her, warm drinks, sweet treats, cosy blankets, and cold evenings had always looked like an excellent combination.
On hearing that a celebration and potluck were to take place on the Hogwarts grounds at the Fall Equinox, Jessica at once started to think about the kind of thing she could bring.
She looked at a number of options, but didn't want to introduce anything unnecessarily complicated; the idea was that the celebration should be about spending time together and enjoying the changing season, not about worrying whether the food looked impressive.
In the end, she went with a simple solution.
Cappuccino and cinnamon rolls.
It seemed almost ideal for an autumn evening.
The sweetness of the cinnamon and sugar matched perfectly with the mild bitterness of the coffee, and the warmth of the drink seemed very suitable for a cool evening spent outdoors. This combination recalled to Jessica autumn leaves, soft blankets, fairy lights, and the quiet conversations which went on well after the sun had set.
On the evening of 22nd September Jessica walked towards the Hogwarts grounds, taking care to carry all her belongings.
She kept the cappuccino steady by holding it firmly as she walked, and the cinnamon rolls were safely placed next to it, with their sweet smell sometimes seeping into the cold air. She took care with each of her steps, particularly when the path was covered with leaves.
A few leaves drifted across the stone path in front of her due to the breeze.
Jessica smiled.
There was a certain pleasant aspect to taking food to an event such as this; it made her feel as if she were bringing a little bit of her own autumn evening with her.
She didn't really mind if the cinnamon rolls were the most impressive thing to be on the menu. There would most likely be a variety of dishes, drinks, desserts, and other goodies brought in by both students and staff.
It was one of the reasons why a potluck was enjoyable.
Each person brought something unique, and all of those small contributions then combined to form a big celebration.
Jessica kept on the path and from time to time looked back at Hogwarts castle. The windows showed the fading sunlight and this gave the castle a warm golden look.
Hogwarts appeared always different in the autumn.
It might have been the changing light, or it might have been the leaves, or it might have been as simple as the fact that another season was starting. Whatever the cause, the castle seemed especially peaceful that evening.
She finally proceeded to the gathering area.
The nearer she came, the more clearly the decorations became visible to her.
The fairy lights were hung between the wooden poles and this set up small patches of warm light over the area where people had come to gather. The picnic benches had been placed throughout the grounds, each one having a long tablecloth laid on it. There was enough space for all of them to put down the food that they had brought.
Jessica at once felt more at ease.
It wasn't overly formal. It wasn't grand.
It was just a number of people meeting outside Hogwarts to eat, talk, and enjoy the changing season.
That was precisely the kind of celebration she enjoyed.
Jessica went up to one of the tables and carefully put her cinnamon rolls alongside the other foods. The rolls were neatly arranged, golden brown and had a light drizzle of icing on top.
She then put the cappuccino next to them.
For a moment she just stared at the thing she had brought. She wished that people would enjoy them. There was a certain satisfaction in taking food to a gathering; it needn't be anything special, for sometimes it was the most simple things that people recalled.
A familiar smell. A warm drink. Friends share a sweet treat.
Little things have a way of turning an evening into a special one.
Jessica moved away from the table and looked round the grounds once more.
A growing number of people were arriving, each of them with their own dishes. A few of them were chatting enthusiastically, while others were searching for a place to sit. From various parts of the gathering area, there would sometimes be outbursts of laughter.
The atmosphere was growing more lively.
The environment still stayed peaceful.
The autumn breeze kept blowing through the trees, causing the leaves to drift softly across the grass; occasionally a leaf would come to rest on a tablecloth or next to someone's shoes before being picked up once more.
For a moment Jessica found herself watching them.
She had always enjoyed the autumn season since it never appeared to require any attention.
Summer was bright and full of energy. Spring appeared to be full of new beginnings. Winter had its own celebrations too.
Autumn was quieter. It prompted people to notice little details.
The sound of leaves.
The trees changing colour.
The air was cool in the evening.
Jessica liked that.
She spotted a comfortable spot by the edge of the gathering area and took a seat there, so that she could see the tables, the people walking about, and the open sky above Hogwarts.
The sun was gradually vanishing behind the horizon.
The light turned slowly from golden tones to orange, pink, and a dusky blue.
Jessica put her hands around her cappuccino.
The warmth from the cup entered her fingers and a little steam rose into the cool air before vanishing.
She took a careful sip of the drink.
That was precisely what she had wanted on an evening such as this.
She looked in the direction of the table beside which she had left the cinnamon rolls.
They seemed to belong in that place almost as much as not.
Apart from all the other food, theirs was only a minor part of the celebration, but Jessica was happy that she had brought them.
She had no intention of bringing something just to impress people.
She had a preference for things that were comfortable and familiar.
Things that are possible to share.
Things that gave an ordinary evening a slight warmth.
The celebrations went on around her.
As the daylight disappeared, people started to find seats, the conversations became louder and the fairy lights looked brighter. A laugh came from somewhere nearby and soon another group began talking about the food that had been brought.
Jessica kept listening in silence for a while.
There was no need for her to take part in all the conversations.
It was sometimes sufficient to do nothing and just watch.
The Fall Equinox did represent a change, but it was not a sudden one.
Summer did not end all at once.
Autumn did not come all at once.
The world changed slowly from one stage to the next.
The evenings became cooler.
The nights became longer.
The leaves changed colour and eventually dropped.
In the end, winter would come.
There was a comforting thing that Jessica discovered.
All of that had changed, but there was no need for anything to happen right away.
Jessica looked upwards.
The first stars were just becoming visible over Hogwarts.
The quilts intended for stargazing would soon prove to be useful; the fairy lights glowed softly all around the gathering spot, while the leaves kept on moving gently over the grass.
The cinnamon rolls were left on the table.
The cappuccino was still warm in her hands.
Everything seemed exactly right.
Jessica smiled to herself.
She was pleased that she had come.
She was pleased that she had brought something to share.
She was particularly happy that there was no need for the evening to take on anything beyond what it already was.
It was just an ordinary autumn evening at Hogwarts, with all the people around, the warm lights, good food, and the quiet beauty of the season changing.
A simple cool autumn evening, a couple of warm lights, a sweet dish placed on the table, and some people who were willing to take the time to enjoy it was sometimes all that was required.
The castle was quietly visible from a distance.
Under the evening breeze the leaves moved gently.
The fairy lights shone warmly.
The stars kept on appearing above.
Tonight she was just a member of Hufflepuff having the Fall Equinox under the autumn sky.
Maybe that was more than sufficient.

The evening air felt cooler than it had earlier in the day. Elara followed the other students out onto the grounds, carrying the basket she had brought for the occasion. She had spent some time deciding what food to bring. In the end, she went with a blueberry pie. It was wrapped inside the basket so it would not get cold too quickly. When the field came into view, Elara slowed down a little. Fairy lights had been strung between the wooden poles, with dried orange and yellow leaves hanging beside them. The leaves moved gently whenever the breeze passed through. It looks nice. Elara looked around the picnic tables. They were set out in uneven rows, with long tablecloths covering them. There were already plenty of dishes on the tables. Some of them looked familiar, but she did not recognise everything. She found an empty place near the end of one table. Elara set her basket down and carefully took out the pie. She placed it beside the other dishes and made sure it was sitting properly. I hope someone will like it.
She looked over the food for a moment before turning away. Elara looked around the field. The different activities had been set up around the grounds, just as the poster had described. Her attention went to the miniature summoner's court first. She could not quite tell what she was supposed to do there. Maybe later. Then she noticed the leaf-pressing table. Elara walked over. Leaves covered most of the table. There were yellow ones, orange ones, and a few that were already brown around the edges. She looked at them for a while. A small maple leaf caught her attention. Its edges were orange, with a little yellow near the middle. Elara leaned closer. It was pretty. She carefully picked it up and turned it over in her fingers. She had never tried pressing a leaf at Hogwarts before, so she looked over the table to see how it was done. After a moment, Elara placed the maple leaf down. She followed the instructions beside the table and carefully pressed the leaf.

Silas looks around at the massive gathering of people and truth told is terribly uncomfortable by it all. With a deep breath he tries to make his way in towards the tables to drop off his chest nut pudding and and a large pot of Pumpkin Spice Steamers. He was not entirely sure if people would like it truth told but he does hope he made them right. It was about all he could make as he was nervous just thinking about coming to this event. He finds a part of the table he can set it down at and does just that. He grabs a plate from the edge of the table his gaze occasionally darting around trying to find someone he knows, unfortunately either out of nervousness or simply none being there he does not notice anyone. He hardly grabs alot of food, just enough so theres small amounts of the bottom of the plate uncovered. He did however see he was far from the only one nervous, a small comfort was brought by that. He found something to drink before giving a casual hellos to people as he passed them. He began to take slow bites while walking somewhat aimlessly. This of course was until he noticed a Gryfindor girl standing somewhat looking a bit nervous to him. Though that is a assumption and naturally he could be entirely wrong? Maybe he should talk to her, after all if he does not talk to someone he will likely eat and hide under a tree to read a book. Goes against the spirt of this doesn't it? With a deep breath and a bit of a nervous step he begins to walk up to her. Whats the worst that could happen? Shes clearly a Gryfindor so its highly likely if she does not want to speak to him she will simply say as such... Thinking on it he is not entriely sure if thats true but its far too late now. Standing in front of her he gives a gentle smile, or the best he can anyways, and begins to speak.
"Hello its nice to meet you, I don't believe we have met yet have we? My name is Silas Vance, first year. Would you happen to be a first year as well? This event is quite populated isn't it. Have you by chance decided what you would like to eat? I grabbed a bit of everything that would fit myself."
He wants to tell her that this place is nauseatingly packed and he could understand if she was nervous as he himself was incredibly nervous. However the assumption alone could be seen as rude and possibly degrading. Instead he holds that smiling hoping that at worst hes wrong and she will be intresting to talk to even if its briefly. So far his talks with second years have been Sixty-Six percent negative and he hopes this will bring it to a more even fifty percent divide which mathematically is far more clean. He allows his gaze to wander around just slightly as to not effectively give her a staring contest which for him at least would be awful. He does however notice that quite a few groups have formed how intresting. Now that he thinks on it he has so many people he could have invited to join him here... Now he kind of feels bad he didn't, he wonders if any of them will show. For now anyways he shouldn't be rude and focus on the conversation infront of him. Speaking of which, he hasn't really spoken to anyone from her house yet has he? I mean sure he has heard there houses do not always get along but hopefully that will not be a issue this time anyways.

𝕭etween planning the Fall Ball, maintaining his own grades, and entering a swirl of doubts much like Shakespearean drama where a character counts the petals of flowers to indicate the fate of their romance—Robin needed some form of relaxation. He never thought he would get tired of reading, but sometimes he could not even keep his eyes open. That realization made him see just how worn out he was.
The boy is more of an eater and not so much a cook or baker, so when he saw that The Fall Equinox required participants to bring their own food, his motivation to attend waned significantly. He wondered if it would be possible to just slip in, take some food and go. Unlikely, he concluded. Last year he shied away from most of these bigger events, including the balls or culture-specific celebrations. One year ago his mother sent him a container of bite-sized tarts of various flavors around this time, even though she didn't know if there was such an event or not. Myrcelle wrote in the accompanying letter that she hoped Robin could share those pastries with his "friends", that was when she still thought he had made a lot. Robin wondered if, after all her talk about him needed to be more social, another similar container would be sent around the heart of autumn.
Surely enough, a few days after Robin saw the poster for the event, an owl arrived with a package larger than usual. It contained twenty miniature scotch pies, very convenient for parties and socialization. Robin considered just eating them all by himself, it's certainly not impossible. Still, given the boy's pre-existing desire to attend the potluck, taking these scotch pies to the event would be worth it. I wonder what everyone else would bring? Robin hoped there wasn't an overwhelming amount of sweets or savory food. He liked both, so it would be unideal to see only tarts and cakes and cookies but nothing with meat or delicious spices.
The days passed quickly and Robin arrived at the potluck with the plastic container in hand. He licked his lips as he smelled the various scents flowing towards him in the wind, and gulped in anticipation. The boy wasn't the first person to arrive, far from it, he stepped into the Grounds quite late. Many students of varying years have already put their foods on the tables and started talking to each other, excitedly sharing how they made their dishes or where they bought them.
Robin stepped cautiously around the edges of the area, avoided the obvious social circles and placed his scotch pies on the far side of the existing plates, on the edge but not too excluded as to be seen as an outsider. He then removed the lid and placed it beneath the container, unveiling a warm and meaty smell. Before grabbing an empty plate for himself, Robin looked around to see if anyone started eating yet—he isn't keen on being the first. Luckily, some others chose to occupy their mouths with food rather than conversations, so the eager Ravenclaw can blend in just fine. He took one of the scotch pies he brought for himself, then moved on to survey the other delicacies. The boy didn't want to grab too much at first, maybe just a sweet thing to complement his savory pie, in addition to some sort of drink?
The Raven looked around for tea but something else caught his attention, chestnut tarts next to pumpkin spice steamers. It didn't take long for him to give in, even though it doesn't beat tea, milk is also fine by him. The added spice also contributes to a special autumn mood, as opposed to the more generic food items. Robin looked around, but the donator of this particular plate seemed to be elsewhere. Off to socialize or grabbing food like himself, perhaps. No matter. Good, even. The boy carefully placed a chestnut tart upon his plate and sipped from a cup of the steamer he poured himself. Standing around isn't the best, what if he spills the drink on someone like during the summer camp welcome feast? Just thinking about that incident made Robin cringe. He picked a section of the bench near his own container and just sat there, quietly working on his current plate.

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. A family quote, passed down along with copies of recipes, created and tested throughout generations.
It was a beautiful day in September, and Bella was rushing through the halls when she saw a crowd of students around the bulletin board. She paused, pile of books in hand, and curiously made her way to the front of the board, where she saw a new poster that had not been there before.
The poster was decorated with fall leaves, with a short poem written across the middle and a date and time. Bella could tell that whoever created the poster was most likely rushed, seeing the eraser marks that were still visible on the poster and the hasty handwriting, but that only made her even more intrigued. At the end was a note that said to "bring food."
Bella knew that it was most likely a celebration, and she was instantly excited. Grabbing her planner, she circled the date and marked it as:
Bella was eager to make the food excitedly the evening before the celebration, holding a piece of paper that she clutched to her chest. It was the recipe for what she was bringing to the celebration: mini lemon cakes and lemonade. The precious family recipe.
Bella's own mother, Adele, hand-copied the recipe down on paper before handling it to Bella with a promise that Bella would never share it outside their family. That was how much they treasured it.
The girl quickly got to work, busying herself with measuring, pouring, baking, mixing, and creating the best lemon cakes and lemonade she could possibly make. This wasn't her first time, but it was her first time doing it all by herself.
When the timer was up, and Bella took out the cakes, she placed it in a container. Now, all she could do was hope it was good.

"Woah..." Bella exclaimed. It was a few hours after classes, and she was already amazed at first sight how different the grounds looked. There were many benches placed out, with delicious-looking food already on them. Bella couldn't wait to try a little bit of everything! She knew that this celebration -- mostly likely something sort of like a potluck now -- could tell her a lot about the different cultures and traditions of the people at Hogwarts.
But now, she gently placed her plate of mini cakes and pitcher of lemonade down, drawing out two cards from her pocket that she spent a lot of time creating. On one, in flowing script, it said:
She saw many of her friends, spread around the grounds. There was Xio, Nessa, Tessa, Elara, and a girl she knew called Paisley, as well as Silas, who she only met two days prior.
Bella waved to all of them, grinning, and stepped up to talk to some of them who she saw was not in a conversation yet. After all, she didn't want to interrupt if they were in the middle of something!
After a while of laughing and chatting, Bella walked over to Xio's gigantic barrel of Pumpkin Juice Cider, filling it up before drinking it.
"Mmm! That's amazing!" she muttered to herself. She noticed another student next to her, waiting in line for the cider.
Turning to the waiting student, Bella decided that that night is going to be spectacular. She couldn't wait to meet new people, make new friends, and create a memorable night that she would never forget.

Bella smiled, looking back at her work. She took a mental snapshot before turning around to try to find people she knew.MINI LEMON CAKES!

The Fall Equinox Potluck

VALE
ASHWOODNote: Vale has achromatopsia and uses special contact lenses to see. She is also a burn survivor.
Vale wasn't exactly sure how to make of the event she was in. She was supposed to 'bring food', but as far as she was now aware, she may not have brought the correct form of 'food' for the event. No matter where she looked, tables were littered with sweets and desserts rather than anything nutritious or savory. And in comparison to the other dishes, Vale's food was bound to stick out like a sore thumb.
She decided to set a massive, black pot in the dead center of all the dishes. Well, if she was gonna bother to work and do something in the midst of a busy school year, she was going to do it with a spotlight on her.
She patted her hands clean and folded them against her waist. Jollof rice. It wasn't...spicy, according to Vale's standards. She could eat raw african peppers without trouble, not even feeling any sense of burn eating the seeds. Along with her father who tended to eat even hotter peppers raw just to test their heat, and she was positive she had seen her mother bicker at him a few times for doing so. Surely nobody would be too invested in attempting the rice anyway in the same degree as the numerous sweets that littered the tables. The amount of sugar on the table would have her appointed healer at St. Mungo's watching her with sharp, unforgiving eyes.
Vale moved along in hopes of finding anything non-sugary and fulfilling for her empty stomach. Her eyes were just able to catch what appeared to be meat pies and other savory dishes amongst the sweet dishes.
In usual fashion, people immediately took note of her and began to scurry away, sensing some sort of terrible presence. But just as usual, Vale was quite unbothered. Dare she admit that anyone who didn't would immediately capture her attention.
A smile laced Vale's lips, and she snatched whatever she considered a non-sweet in between sharp nails and popped them into her mouth at a time. Was she supposed to wait? Vale didn't know and Vale simply didn't care. She hummed a small noise of 'ahs' for whatever dish pleased her taste buds, and made an 'ack!' noise to whatever didn't. And 'ack!' appeared to happen more than 'ahs.' Eventually, Vale stopped munching away at whatever pleased her and went along to inspect people like a shark swimming with fishes. She casually roamed through crowds and could tell when some noticed her first before she even noticed them. Some purposefully take to sidestepping her view when she got too close to them.
Vale slowly blinked and kept a dazed smile on her black lipstick-stained lips. And she simply lurked. She lurked until something caught her eyes. She even brushed past a familiar person to dissect; a bird that caught her interest as it kept to building itself a birdhouse to call its own. @Robin Lockett We meet again, hello!A person, a human being.
Her red irises stared long and hard at their back. The long sigh was easy enough for Vale to catch. A lot of sounds were quite easy for her to capture with her ears now these days.
"You certainly let out a lot of carbon dioxide, don't you? Hopefully you take in more oxygen than that. You'll die faster that way." She bared her teeth, her eyes widening, "Vale Ashwood. May all your enemies be crushed bone by bone and beg for your forgiveness. Now...which dish is yours? My dish is jollof rice, the big pot in the midst of all that...stuff. Too many sweets, if you ask me." Vale waved a hand with black claws for nails towards the direction of the table that had her food. Without asking, Vale casually sat down right next to Iris. And just like that, Vale moved to lean against the table, tapping her nails against its wooden frame. Yes, this one interests her, for now. @Iris Marlowe

The Fall Equinox Potluck

Banner by Tes Cadell
The evening of September 22nd, I headed straight up to my dorm after lessons, quickly getting changed into what I classed as "practical, warm, clothes". I tipped up my bag onto my bed, acidentially startling Isis, who had been asleep. Before I could apologize to her, she had hidden under the bed, yet again. I packed a scarf, a few books, and my wand, of course, before reaching under my bed, to where Isis was sitting next to a new parcel. I pulled the parcel out, careful not to disturb her. I didn't fancy getting scratched just then.
I opened the parcel that had just been delivered to me that day, from my cousin, Alana. Inside, was a foil wrapped parcel, that I carefully held up, and a letter, that I put on my bed. I would read it later, when I had time. Then, I put the foil wrapped package into my bag, put on a coat, and headed outside.
There were fairy lights everywhere, and lots of picnic benches, covered with table clothes, and some platters of food. I found a good empty space, and put down the tin-foil package, and unwrapped it, revealing an apple pastry. It would probably be classified as a strudel, but I wasn't sure if it was definetly called that. I removed the tin foil, putting the pastry onto a plate instead, then scrunched the tinfoil into a ball.
I laughed very slightly, imagining Alana's face, if she knew witches and wizards would be eating her special pastry - it was a recipe that she had created herself, slightly spicy, and a bit sweet as well. I had sent a letter to her saying about the event, and she had said that she would send some food for me to put out. And, she did, so I was very grateful. I would send her a letter back, saying that I'd used it, at the Potluck.
I took a plate, and started walking around, picking up bits of food as I went along. I took a few sweets, while also looking out for some savoury bits of food.
I sat down on the grass, taking the scarf out of my bag, to keep me warmer.
Some snippets of conversation drifted through the air, a few catching my attention, but I was mostly concerned with eating the food.
I took a bite of a rice thing that had been in a big black pot, and felt my mouth tingle a lot. God, that was spicy. Tasty, though.
And then, near me, I heard somebody say that the rice had been their dish. I stood up, and walked over slightly. The girl seemed quite creepy, to be honest, with extremely long black nails. I smiled slightly at her.
"Your rice was really good. Insanely spicy though."
I looked at the other girl who was there. She was a bit younger than me, as far as I could tell, and seemed to be not particulaly comfortable there.
"Umm... I'm Mira. Third year."
I took a bite of another dish, and sat down awkwardly beside them, moving some leaves out of the way. I looked at the leaves, and chose a particulaly big one, which I put into my bag, making sure it wouldn't get ripped by any of my books.
I wrapped the scarf closer around me. I was so fed up with the cold. Thankfully, at least some of the food was still slightly warm.
"So... What's your favourite bit of food that you've tried here? There's so many nice bits. Some of it's a bit strange too though."
I shut my mouth after that, feeling awkward about speaking quite so randomly.
