This thread is part of the EXPLORE THE WILDERNESS EVENT.
GUIDED WALK

The following morning the students would awaken from their tents and be treated to a lovely breakfast spread before the first event of the day. An elder tribe member would be guiding the students around to teach them new skills and also educate them on the local tribal culture.

After waiting for all the students to gather in the open field outside of the New Moon Gate, the elder stood before the group. She was a shorter lady and had a yellow traditional robe wrapped around her which was adorned with mountain and moon motifs in green and orange with a head wrap on her head that matched the robe hiding the white hair underneath. Around her neck she wore a necklace with green, gold and white beads and she wore gold arm cuffs on her wrists. While she held a walking staff in her hand as an aid, she was most certainly not frail. "Hello all, welcome." She said loudly for everyone to hear. "My name is Nyakato, I will be your guide today. I will advise you not to touch any plants or wildlife you may come across or risk the consequences." Nyakato sadly knew there would be those willing to take the risk of wandering off or causing trouble but she still warned them anyways. "Follow me and we will begin our journey."

"As some of you might know, the mountains that house our beloved Uagadou are home to many species of animals and plants, mundane and magical, some of which you can't find anywhere else." She said as she began to lead the group through the field and towards a path lined with African Olive trees. "Our tribe's ancestors were believed to have spiritual connections to nature thus why we now cherish and protect the area." As she spoke a high pitched sound could be heard from somewhere in the trees that lined the path. "This is not part of the lessons exactly but," Nyakato brought her hands up to her face and cupped them over her mouth before mimicking the call that the students had just heard. Soon after a bird of blue and green with little hints of red came flying out of the trees above them and then off in the distance. "A little bird call, that was a Rwenzori Turaco, a bird local to this area." She explained before turning and continuing on down the path through the trees. Along the path more flora could be seen, wild orchids, tree ferns and begonias.
As the made their way along even more could be seen. Giant Groundsels, everlasting flowers, St. John's Wort, and trees draped in moss. Nyakato stopped suddenly along the path and turned slowly to face the students. "Dear students, look around," She said as she too turned to look all around them. "What do you notice? Do you see any signs of animals?" It was time for the students first lesson, tracking. Nyakato was eager to see if any of them would be able to pick out anything before she would explain further.

Damien was someone who has a fascination with exploring the world and not be trapped in one place all the time, so when he took the chance of going on this school trip to Uagadou he knew why he wanted to go and lucky for him he got to drag his friend Mamori along with him as well as get to see his American friend Percy Todd, he looked forward to see Percy as he quite enjoyed him when they played capture the flag together. So when Damien heard that they would be doing a guided walk where people could learn about the beautiful creatures and other things in Uagadou. So of course he signed up for it but he did something even better, he made his friends go along with him!

So now here he was on this guided walk his dyed black curls shining in the sun underneath his brown safari hat along with a bag he carried with him with snacks and waters for his friends. He just smiled fondly as he took in the breeze before looking at the other two. Sure he may have had to drag Mamori just for him to tag a long but it was worth it. “Don’t you just love how beautiful nature can be sometimes guys!”[/url] He gave them a joyous smile as he looked at them happily.

He honestly couldn’t wait to see and learn so much about Uagadou, he thinks school should host these trips much more often they can be very educational.

Elara stayed near the back of the group as they followed Nyakato along the path. She kept looking from one side to the other. There were plants everywhere. Some she recognised from books. Others were completely new to her. The bird caught her attention when it flew out from the trees. Elara stopped for a moment to watch it. Its blue and green feathers stood out against the leaves before it disappeared into the distance. "A Rwenzori Turaco," she whispered to herself. She tried to remember the name as she walked on. There were wild orchids growing near the trees. Moss hung from the branches. Elara wanted to take a closer look at some of them, but Nyakato's warning was still fresh in her mind. Don't touch anything. When Nyakato suddenly stopped, Elara nearly walked into the person in front of her. She stepped aside and looked around. Signs of animals? She wasn't sure what she was supposed to find. Elara looked down at the ground first. There were fallen leaves, small twigs, and patches of bare soil. A few marks ran through the dirt near one of the trees. She crouched slightly. Are those tracks? Elara wasn't sure. They were faint, and she had no idea what had made them. She looked around instead, wondering if there might be something else nearby. A broken twig caught her eye. Then another. She followed the small trail with her eyes, trying to work out where it might lead.

____Finally, this is the day Millie has been looking forward the most when she chose to come to this short visit to Uagadou. With the open, wild life. Become one once again with mother nature. Encountering another living creatures, either those she often sees in her daily life in East Leake or those she never even realized have had existed in this world. If she could, Millie surely would move here right now. But, no, that was just impossible right now. Maybe later. She nodded along, agreeing her own thought, while her feet obediently followed the line of her group in silence while in the front line Uagadou Headmistress guiding them and explaining things about this track they just passing.
____Although her voice faintly just entered and out of Millie's ears since the girl quite distracted enough with almost anything her eyes take in, she still kept her hands together on both her side. Barely holding herself not to ran off anywhere to follows the birds instead of her own group or touched any foreign, strange floras that caught her attention. It is only now she strongly regrets not being able to bring her camera or whatever magical tools that can work as same as it to captured and saved this moment of beauty.
____The girls' attention came back to the front when she saw the Headmistress mimicking the birds-calling from a bird named Rwenzori Turaco. Millie then wondering if that was how the locals called the birds or it is its scientific name. With another thought swarming her head, she really wanted to do the same with that high-pitched voice called, although she quickly dispersed that aside when the group already moving forward to the next path.
____Moss here and there as far as her eyes can see. And when the woman asked if they can see any signs of animals there, Millie automatically wander her eyes to the path laid in front. At first she just thought it would be bugs, grasshoppers, snake or anything that have the similar colour as the leaves or trees around. But then she caught something. Nearly missed it out if its minor detail. Though, is it really the clue of what Headmistress asked or just an ordinary, unimportant founding she can just forget about?

Guided Walk Explore the Wilderness
Chuki walked in silence in the group, following Nyakato. She took to scanning the trees of multiple birds of various colors. She was sure she even caught sight of another Rwenzori Turaco in the trees. Already, she was catching sight of some people attempting to wander off. Chuki typically can't feel remorse for when such people are later found injured or worse. Her mother always taught her to never tread past her tribe's border alone. And never without a needed purpose.

Chuki ignored them, deciding nature is the harshest teacher to learn from. Still, she peeked along to catch anything unusual outside the trial. Some things were recognizable, found just outside the Mwanamke Tribe's borders and its own flower gardens. "Auntie," Chuki began in Swahili, using what she saw as a respectful title for Nyakato. "How long have you trod this trail for? Did your people build it? Do nearby tribes also use these trails?"

Chuki figured those were polite enough questions. Besides, it was important to understand the network from other tribes. The Mwanamke Tribe was purposefully isolated enough to avoid the tribe being seen by outsiders in general. The closest, friendly neighbor tribe was still considered a good distance away, and for good reasons. They knew nothing of magic. The Chiefess felt the safest from those who knew the least.

Still, Chuki was a curious child even at her age. She used a stick to poke open bushes and turn over some stones she found along the path. A 'safe' way to check for any immediate signs of danger. She even checked for non-human footprints. One of the warnings of danger was that of seeing lion pawprints in the ground back at home. Anything bigger than a human foot was a sign of danger.

The Guided Walk. Emphasize on Guided. But being friends with Xio means fun and adventure, off to the middle of nowhere. :)

It was a beautiful day, and Bella was walking with Xio, both dancing with excitement. This was Bella's first time at Uagadou's trails and forest!

"There truly is a lot of nature here," Bella agreed. "And it's so beautiful, isn't it? I kind of wish Hogwarts would have something like this, though I guess there is the Forbidden Forest (but it's forbidden for a reason). And I can't wait to learn more about the tribal culture here!"

At Xio's squeal, Bella turned around, grinning.

"Yes, Xio, we all saw it! That was amazing!" Bella exclaimed, her eyes shining.

As they continued on, Bella found herself observing more nature and the small details around here. She was listening so closely to the leader that she didn't realize her friend had already gone off exploring.

"Isn't this so amazing, Xio? Xio? XIO!" Bella called, alarmed. She saw her friend crawl into the undergrowth and disappear, then reappear a few moments later.

"Come on, Bella!"
Xio excitedly said. "Let's go see if we can find something that bites!"

Bella looked worriedly over her shoulder, where the rest of the group were already walking away. Putting one hand on her forehead, she groaned.

"Ughh. Everything is telling me not to do this, but let's go! If I get eaten by a giant plant or animal though, I'm blaming you, because the leader did specifically say to not touch any plants or wildlife," Bella told Xio, though with a grin to show that she didn't really mean it and she was also excited for an adventure too. "Also, if we get lost, that's not going to be good. But fine, fine, I'll come with you! You lead!"

Bella sneaked one last glance at the group before ducking in to follow Xio to on an adventure.

OOC NOTES: LOL Xio you always drag me into the weirdest places with the best possible outcomes :D

Carefully placed and chosen in the central landscape of Africa, Uagadou wishes its Avian species free to fly. Wilderness prepared to place itself into your view wherever you look. Chatt had never made it this far. The being of not even made it out of Europe, had given him culture shock every so often. The Wizarding World is described purely in terms of magic and spells that are casted all throughout. But beauty outside of Hogwarts had claimed the idea that a separate world—divided by the past—shared the same planet that was expected to be in its very best, if not, given the worst.

Hiking shared brief memories within the wilds. Inside him—bittersweet memories he’d refer to as a taste that stung the tongue once swallowed. A dirtbag, likely him being, bugs and curiosity held him tight. Coming along with his tentmates, a rather odd bunch. Expectedly, he stood beside Clark. Keeping close, they were always found closer than the other. Like a pair of socks. Although later, one would be missing.

His muggle-class look, though, not a single worry washed over his thoughts about other wizards' opinions. His grey-beige cropped plaid polo, tucked under a white shirt. Style regarding tops weren’t fit into his thoughts. Outfit-wise, he’d go for the pants. Pants that were washed out, designed sharply on one side—from the waistline to the bottom edge—with a cyberpunk feel that was shaded a slight color similar to the main. Clean ocean-blue Muggle sneakers, ironic given the sea, its known shades of blue, lived on the opposite sides as the color of Nature.

Nyakato led them deeper into the heart. His group was enclosed, bushed by the sides. Everywhere—for Chatt—felt like heavy hands, taking him everywhere. His curious eyes could follow the birds' flight, the dew that could, the cornered grass that tickled their feet, and it only led him closer and closer. The further they went in, the more he’d slowly stop by whilst the group walked.

Letting out a slight bark of laughter. “Ha! Guys, look at this—Clark, look.” He’d point out a beetle, colors unrecognized, and interesting enough to get his attention. As close as he was to grab it, he quickly stopped himself. Although the eldest was almost blinded, he could feel the burn behind his back. But that didn’t stop his scatteredness. Moving over to the opposite side, running in front, he clearly wasn’t touching anything. No harm, nothing done. “Look, this one's about to fall into the apples.” Chuckling at its insect vibes. It’s giving insect vibes.

Chattering to Clark, he’d realize his group up front placed into an halt. He'd edge his friend to catch up with them. Finally slowing down to their side.

“Animals...” Placing his hands into his pockets, fondling with its own. Chatt looked around, maybe bigger—more terrifying. A Graphorn? That’d be cool.

“Imagine we see a Graphorn, that’d be cool.” Whispering his thoughts to the group, he chuckled at the thought. Covering his mouth with a half-fisted hand, Index higher than the others. An obvious habit when he knew himself: whatever he spat out of his mouth was stupid. But a whisper only to himself followed. “But like... imagine...”

The chill of the morning air at the Uagadou camp greeted Denisse as she woke for the first morning walk of the camp, a tranquil respite from the harsh competition to come later that day. After a quick, more substantial than most breakfasts, Denisse had followed the rest of her group to the field outside the New Moon Gate to be immersed in the vast surrounds of the African mountain range.

As the elder moved closer, Denisse's gaze instantly fixed on her. A natural nobility, if she may say. Nyakato was as tall and solid as the mountain itself, her sunny yellow robes decorated with the image of the moon and a mountain range.

Denisse took mental note of the strict warning: do not touch any plants or wildlife. In an unfamiliar territory brimming with ancient magic, she had zero desire to find out what kind of counter-curse or natural venom a misplaced hand might bring right before a major race.

As they rounded the bend leading back down the trail flanked by African Olive trees, Denisse hovered toward the center of the pack, sweeping her eyes over the landscape. She watched in awe as Nyakato created the bird call so quickly and easily that it was as if she'd done it a hundred times, bringing out a dazzling Rwenzori Turaco-a flash of emerald, blue and crimson-from the canopy. The woods were lush and dark, covered in wild orchids, gigantic groundsel plants, and mosses so green they looked like draperies hanging from the branches.

Then her attention was distracted by the brief eruption of laughter behind her. As Denisse turned, she saw Chatt scurry back and forth along the edge of the path, eager to show off the various brightly-colored beetles he had found to Clark, cooing softly and excitedly at the upstartling bug while Denisse rolled her eyes with a muted, amused scoff-and, of course, she had to eye him sternly from the corner of her eye when he got too close to some branch, as if to remind him of Nyakato's warning.

The moment Nyakato stopped dead in her tracks and shouted to the people, Denisse froze.

“Dear students, look around... What do you notice? Do you see any signs of animals?”

Denisse swept the ground and low shrubbery with her eyes as she took hesitant steps, trying not to kick up any clues to their whereabouts. Chatt softly spewed his optimistic predictions of a Graphorn in their midst to her back while Denisse kept her eyes a few inches lower to the ground, scanning for flattened moss, broken twigs along the bottom branches or a new print tracked in the moist dirt under the tree-ferns. She kept her mind on the high-stakes climbing race she was signed up for immediately after this, so she could perfect her tracking skills before climbing the cliff.

Lucy was having a problem. She wanted to touch things. Not to mess with anything but just a little poke here and there. What’s under that leaf? How does that bark feel? Does that flower feel different than the ones back home? But Nyakato had very specifically said not to touch anything. So Lucy kept her hands to herself. Mostly anyway.

Her sight, on the other hand, bounced between everything. Trees, flowers, moss, people, more trees. There was way too much to look at properly while walking at the same time. Lucy also inspected Nyakato for a moment. The colourful robe, beads around their neck, gold around the wrists and the staff. Lucy also wanted to have an adventure staff. Eventually Lucy spotted Nyakato’s white hair underneath the head wrap. White hair... Lucy glanced down at a strand of her own hair before looking back at Nyakato. Interesting.

A high pitched bird call interrupted Nyakato’s commentary and also got Lucy’s head turned up toward the sky. Where did that come from? Then a similar sound came from Nyakato’s direction. They had mimicked the bird. That got Lucy’s attention. A blue and green bird suddenly appeared from the trees above them and just flew away. Lucy turned to follow it for as long as she could. Wow, colourful. Much more so than most birds of that size back home.

Rwenzori Turaco.

That was what Nyakato had called it. Lucy grabbed her book almost immediately to take note of that, pencil already hovering over an open space before she stopped.

…

How was she supposed to know how the name of that bird was written? She rushed closer to Nyakato and held up the page and offered her pencil too in the hopes of Nyakato realising what she was after. To make sure of that Lucy proceeded to point to the sky, tracking the path the bird took with her finger.

One thing Lucy wanted to try. She tucked her book underneath her arm, cupped her hands around her mouth the way Nyakato had, doing her best to copy how they had done it, and attempted the bird call. The moment she was done, her eyes shot toward the canopy of the surrounding trees.

Anything?

She waited for a moment before continuing after the group. She glanced back at times just in case she had actually managed to convince a bird to appear.

There were even more plants ahead. Orchids, ferns, flowers and trees covered in moss. Still Lucy had to stop herself from touching anything. This was becoming increasingly difficult. She was used to poking at things and catching little critters she recognised without worrying much about them. As ironic as it sounded, the most dangerous thing back home was tiny, about the size of a match head. Ticks. Sure, there were poisonous plants too. Lily of the valley, for example. But she knew those. She knew what she could pick and what she shouldn't put in her mouth. Here, though? She had no idea what half of these things could do.

When Nyakato stopped and asked them to look for signs of animals, Lucy’s attention shifted immediately. Signs of animals? She first glanced toward the trees. Maybe there were birds? Then at the leaves of plants on her level. Maybe there were bugs or snails? Then finally down on the ground.

…

Lucy crouched. Now this was interesting.
