Fencing was an unfamiliar sport for the Wizarding world. Although the idea of it was always bound by aristocrats or people who had significant taste, which may not seem that unfamiliar after all. It is more than hitting targets, as Fencing is often called "chess at the speed of light." Every attack is a question; every parry is an answer.

On the other half of the training area, significantly separated from the others by a series of low wooden barriers, lies the fencing area. Two narrow strips of packed earth, measuring 14 meters long and 2 meters wide, make up the perfect setup for an intense match. Surrounding this are carefully placed boundary markers, placed around each strip. The piste serves its purpose, and there the match will begin.

The crowd circled at a distance around the match. Where the players took their steps onto the fencing strip, each opposite the other. The tension was hard not to give away. Each held their foil.

Chatt took position between them. Raising his hand.

“En Garde!”

Each student poised themselves into position.

“Ready?”

A pause.

“And Begin!”

𝐖ielding a pointed metal stick and attempting to accurately hit the torso of a fellow student with it seemed to precisely be the type of sport that Ebony Vetra would do. Though fencing was an unfamiliar sport to the pure-blood — one more prevalent amongst Muggles — the concept of it was not overtly foreign. Fencing appeared somewhat like duelling; it took place on what was also dubbed a piste, except there was no involvement of the magic and foolish wand waving present in duelling — all the better for the beater, who ironically much preferred relying upon her own strength to inflict damage. The wand was simply a utility — a tool for which mundane tasks were made more practical; a tool for instant gratification in the most impossible times, such as when one desires snow during the summer or a storm on the sunniest of days.

Clad in full protective gear complete with a mask, a full white suit, and a vest (all of which took unreasonable struggle and complexity to put on), the Ravenclaw could not help but question whether the supposed safety measures were at all necessary. There was no plausible explanation as to why there was more protective gear in fencing than in Quidditch; she was quite certain that the blunt stick would fail to inflict more damage than a bludger could. Perhaps the clothing was a cause for reconsideration, especially as they stood in the Campgrounds under the sweltering summer heat.

Nonetheless, Ebony shook with hidden anticipation. The sport seemed thrilling and involved just the right amount of violence. Holding the weapon — a foil, apparently — in a gloved hand, fingers curled around the grip in an attempt to grow accustomed to the strange pistol shape, the brunette stepped onto the flattened piste.

“En garde —”

The referee’s call came so early and abruptly that she barely had time to register who her opponent was and what in Merlin’s beard she was doing. Slipping hastily into some form of grounded stance, she raised her weapon, and —

“Ready? And begin.”

After Nick’s brief experience at fencing when he was younger Nick had decided to try it out again so when there was an opportunity on summer camp he had signed up in a instance so on the 4th of August Nick had arrived at the place full gear looking at a fellow student who probably was in a older year nevertheless it still felt weird yet it also felt great to be able to attack a fellow student without getting detention I hope I’m against a prefect

Fencing was an unfamiliar sport to Chatt. Not so the fact his current status as a Pureblood held that, no. Fencing was labeled as a "niche" activity that he didn't partake in any insight of it.

Now there he was, currently betwixt the two with a distinct gap in their years. He felt bad to whomever was the youngest. That was, Nick Jameson. Luckily, he'd been on the Offensive side, where he could gather some advantage if luck could pity him. Unluckily, confronting against someone with a rather bigger advantage, which was Ebony herself.

"En garde!" As he stated. This made him realize — yes, just now — how it used French terms. But seeing this was an English country. . .

Nick took a Beat onto Ebony. Attacking a quick—witty sharp tap against her blade triggering a reaction. Though slightly off-guard, Ebony tried to parry with her foil but the move was overdue giving Nick, foil in his hand a chance to point.

The color-changing charm applied onto the vest leaked the color red, indicating the contact given.

"Halt!" He'd quickly call.
"Attack from the right, touch. Point right." His voice—resonant, combining with a slightly unwavering accent of French. Hand, pointed towards the younger fencer on his left.

Surprisingly, Nick had to something to prove by giving the first Point of the match. His determined mindset, must be overflowing with excitement and shock. Nothing must be stopping him. Though, tenacity could get him nowhere if it only applied at this moment. As this was only the first round.

Both sides took a reset on their positions, backing towards it.
He'd give the words once more.
"En garde!"
As both sides positioned themselves.

"Ready?"

"Fence!"

𝐓 he foil felt strange in her hand; it was too light, the blade too flimsy and malleable. Though it was a weapon, it was not a heavy one that weighed upon her arms like the bat she usually wielded. The foil was rather held with the strength of the fingers and controlled with the movement of the fingertips, an art of precision that she had yet to finesse. The blade was thus rendered difficult to control, the point moving with a volatility that was unexpected of something that initially appeared so very rigid.

Subsequently, as the opponent moved forward to beat her blade, she attempted to parry his attack — but the attempt yielded nothing but contact with the air and was poorly timed. She had yet to grasp the ephemeral few milliseconds where her blade would be able to stop his with enough strength and accuracy. The opponent was thus able to extend their arm and score a point with ease, triggering the Colour Changing charm that had been cast upon the vests — a clever way to render the touches visible, though she had expected nothing less of her fellow captain. Though slightly disappointed in her own incompetence, she had expected nothing more.

How on Earth he managed to hit that was mystery and what was even more of a myself was how his opponent managed to get hit was a complete mystery to Nick but never the less he managed to hit it so at least the green was on him not his opponent and the red was in his opponent not Nick

Both sides had something to prove in quite a determined amount. The youngest could possibly show that no matter big, nor experienced the opponent is, victory will be granted through immense push. Whereas the other, could not back down to someone that hasn't even learned how to at least half of the spells she could wave around.

Their "little while" separation did not tire out from the tension last round. Ebony lunged to her Junior, perhaps not placing her full potential, as she easily worked her way towards Nick. So far so good. As Nick tried to counter-parry her, each time the foil went all out, an inch came between him and the thin blade. Appears that, Ebony herself was not at all using to her full potential, meanwhile Nick was met by a close-call no matter how hard he parried.

The piste was not endless as Nick would've thought, as his foot was out of it.
"Halt!" Chatt shouted quickly enough to put them into an immediate stop.

"No points given." He'd let out a sly smile.
As much as it was interesting to see the outcome quicker, he'd let the battle out as much they could handle.
"Ready?"
"Fence!"

𝐈t appeared as though the defensive strategy was not working, for clearly her bladework was not the strongest real OOC lore :0. Ebony found it difficult to work her blade around the opponent's; she found it hard to disengage, to parry, and to beat the blade, for the pistol grip felt foreign in her fingers. Her inability in controlling the blade meant that, strategically, she would have to opt for a more aggressive, simple attack. She decided upon the most simple, straightforward advance of all — the lunge. The most classic of all moves — one that could incorporate complicated bladework as a setup, yet also be performed singularly in a burst of speed to score a point with quick precision.

She advanced toward her opponent, finding her footing along the strangely flattened piste somehow (though she was quite certain that the en garde position that her legs were bent in moreso rendered her akin to an awkwardly squatting duck). Her opponent was pushed and pressured toward the back of the piste — and when his foot struck the back line, the brunette knew it was the time to strike. Moving her front leg forward in an attempt to create an explosive lunge, she was disappointed to find that her blade did not meet its target. Skipping leg day was apparently not the wisest idea.

Nick void action Ebony gets the point Cuz aint no way she failed to hit a stationary target
The match could go nowhere, the third round could make a change. Could, that is if Nick wasn't obviously shivering head to toe. Was it the crowd? The pressure? Or the opponent larger than himself. A moral boost could've been given to him as he was given a point, but mayhaps a moral boost could've acted like an aftermath of a sugar rush.

Other than that, he has to keep his keep going.
"Fence!"

The offending was rather, defending? I'm not sure if he read the rules, he was supposed to go forward, correct? He took tiny pieces of steps and walked towards Ebony. Ebony on the other hand, was mentally and physically prepared. Is—Is he Aura-farming...?

Foils tackled each other but not so much. Chatt blinked his blunk and the red highlights already came upon his view. Ebony had hit him lesser than any minute.

Chatt slightly curled his face, body language confused like a cat who bit his own tail and forgot about it.

"Halt?
"Attack left, hell nah." A quiet smile growing out of him. Catching it on the act, he hid it smoothly.
"Counter-Attack on the right, touch. Point right."

Both reset onto their positions. Hoping Nick could come back to his senses, otherwise—this match would be absolutely boring. Chatt sighed.
"En Garde. Ready again."

He'd look left and right, making sure of, the contestants were ready. I mean they look ready.

"Fence!"

𝐈It seemed as though time was at a standstill — perhaps it was simply the sheer exhiliration of the match, or lightheadedness from the heat — for her opponent was simply standing there, unmoving. Was she hallucinating, or had everything truly frozen? But, no — the referee's arms were still moving, the leaves of a nearby tree still rustling, the crowd still milling about. The boy standing on the opposite end of the piste was just simply refusing to make any movement whatsoever; there was no apparent delusion there.

Confusion overcame her; Ebony had expected her opponent to be aggressive and gain ground after the offensive lunge she had previously attempted. Instead, he made no such attempt to come forward; in a game that required peering into the opponent's mind to determine a strategy, her opponent was quickly becoming quite difficult to read. Perhaps it was a part of his strategy, to lure her while he stood stationary to perform a counter-attack at the last second.

Not wanting to let an opportunity to gain a point slip past, however, especially considering she was lagging behind, she moved toward his position on the piste, foil held at the ready. Instead of using a straightforward lunge — for fear that the boy would parry — Ebony attempted to perform a counter-attack of sorts herself. That was likely not the best idea considering her mediocre bladework; her point almost missed the stationary target, though the point was ultimately still given to her. She should really stick to more straightforward techniques, especially if the opponent apparently did not want to move any longer.
