Department of Mysteries | Cabin of Mysterious BadassesFencing was an unfamiliar sport for the Wizarding world. Although the idea of it was always bound by aristocrats or people who had significant taste, which may not seem that unfamiliar after all. It is more than hitting targets, as Fencing is often called "chess at the speed of light." Every attack is a question; every parry is an answer.
On the other half of the training area, significantly separated from the others by a series of low wooden barriers, lies the fencing area. Two narrow strips of packed earth, measuring 14 meters long and 2 meters wide, make up the perfect setup for an intense match. Surrounding this are carefully placed boundary markers, placed around each strip. The piste serves its purpose, and there the match will begin.
The crowd circled at a distance around the match. Where the players took their steps onto the fencing strip, each opposite the other. The tension was hard not to give away. Each held their foil.
Chatt took position between them. Raising his hand.
“En Garde!”
Each student poised themselves into position.
“Ready?”
A pause.
“And Begin!”

Fencing.
Aaron wasn't much used to the sport, but he was interested to play a game or two of it. That's why when he heard that fencing sign-ups are open, he went to sign up to participate.
Of course he was a bit late. Not too late to miss the sign-ups or to not being able to play, but late enough to be in the 6th match for the day. He wasn't expecting to win anything. just wanted to enjoy a nice game of fencing.
Aaron later realised that it was good he wasn't the first few people to sign up as he wasn't good at fencing. Sure, he saw a couple of movies where people did it, and maybe saw it in action once, but he didn't know the rules very well. So, he decided to spectate some of the other matches in the mean time.
This helped him a bit as he was now a bit more ready for his round.
Aaron was told that his opponent was going to be Owen Lochridge, who is another prospective first year at Hogwarts.
When his turn for the match came, Aaron wore the fencing protective gear and began walking towards the 14 by 2 strip of ground dedicated towards the match.
A flip was done and Aaron was given offensive.
He had four choices to choose from: Lunge, Feint, Beat or Disengagement.
He didn't have much time to think as soon after the match began.

It was fencing day! Of all the events to be happening at summer camp, this very well may have been the one most anticipated. When Owen had first signed up for the contest, thoughts of gallantry and noble duelling had spun around his thoughts and just how fun it would be to step into the shoes of some Georgian Era gentleman vying to test his mettle against his kin. To that end, Owen had decided to play into his little mental roleplay and had arrived to the piste dressed to the nines. Fitted satin breeches met white silk stockings at the knee. Upon his feet, he wore buckled leather shoes; and at his throat, a fine linen cravat. A tailored knee-length coat of deep indigo velvet lay over a heavily embroidered silk waistcoat. But, it was still summer, after all, and so he had cut the sleeves from the coat such that he didn't simply perish beneath the weight and heat of the luxurious garment. Which was all the more disappointing when he was asked to discard it entirely in order to affix his protective padded chest piece and helm.
Nevermind. He was still more than thrilled to play the part, prancing up to his position on the piste with foil in hand, the thin piece of metal whipping this way and that as he gave it test flicks with his wrist as though he had the faintest idea of what he was doing. Which, he argued, wasn't entirely non-existent. What child hadn't spent numerous hours brandishing a stick or small branch at some phantom or friend? He had played knights and princesses like the best of them and had defeated many a dragon in doing so. So he was actually quite chuffed to be able to play with something a bit more real in that respect. Not even the shaded visor could hide the bright smile laying beneath.
"Aaron, was it?" he asked, waving his sword foil at his opponent, before continuing with a Northern Irish accent, "I'm Owen! It's nice to meet you! Ready when you are!"

If he could recall, and he could.
It wasn't mistaken that this was the first match that included two first years against each-other. Only he could eye his juniors, he recollected the memories where he could be in their positions. A whole year in Hogwarts for the very first time. Totally.
Each dressed in gear, both prepared to take place in a match filled with the taste of Agility and Reaction. Not much difference between the sports of the Wizarding world. They'd take aim, and bring the rain.
He shouted once more, "Fence!
And they took a step further towards one another with no hesitation. Aaron took offensive seriously, jabbing his foil into his opponents torso. The so-called attack that could gave Owen the lack of choice but to retreat, each dodge he'd give was to be received by another flight of foil coming towards him.
It had to end, and yet it did. The foil placed onto Owens suit, color of red spread throughout, surrounding the contact.
"Halt! Attack from the left, touch. Point Left.
He'd announce. Hoping the right wouldn't lose their eager perseverance.
His juniors rested back into their postures, en-garding once more. Was that even a word?
"En Garde! Ready.. and Fence!"

Hardly any time seemed to pass at all before the referee (or whatever the fencing equivalent was titled) was calling for the match to begin. Owen really had no idea what he was doing. He'd heard of some wizarding families encouraging activities such as fencing, archery, equestrianism for their children—those activities that for centuries had been considered right and proper for the most well-bred in society.
His family had never been chief among them. Not that they weren't well-bred. They were certainly that. But according to his father, such 'sport' as he called it, was for those with insufficient mental faculties and too much leisure time. That was probably the reason his brother, Anrai, had always shied away from joining sports or clubs during his first two years at Hogwarts, spending it all studying and ambitiously networking instead.
All the better to soak in as much of the fun now as Owen could. He wasn't likely to have another opportunity for fencing any time soon. He had no real idea what he was doing. His feet shuffled forward along the narrow piste, then back and back. "Not so fast!" Metal rang sharply every time the foils connected. Even though he had no idea what he was doing, the Irish boy couldn't suppress the grin that quickly formed between rosy cheeks.
A particularly robust lunge came at him, but he could see it coming a mile away and jumped back in retreat. "Aha! You thought you could get me that easily? I don't think s—" A whippy tap to his side cut him off, an alarmed glance flicking to see the magical spread of red pigment. It was only then that he realized he'd quite literally stepped into the trap. "Oh." He facepalmed dramatically, a clammy hand serving to cover his brief embarrassment, but quickly laughed it off, promising, "I'll get you this next time!"

Score!
Aaron wasn't expecting to win a point so easily and so fast. This was his first time fencing, so his only aim was to not foul during the first round. And what did he know, he actually scored!
Before the game had begun, his opponent had come to greet him.he had replied."Nice to meet you too, Owen. Wishing you the best for the match!"
With that he wore the helmet (or whatever it is called) and got ready.
When the moderator announced they could start (which is done by shouting "Fence!"), Aaron tried his best to make the foil touch his opponent, but Owen was able to dodge him for a while.
Aaron thought to trick his opponent into a false attack to allow an opening on one side and gain advantage on him. And what did he know, it worked! That was how Aaron was able to score his first point for the match.
he said catching his breath while looking at his opponent"This was fun"and he put his hand out for a handshake."I wasn't expecting to win a point so fast. I wish you the best for the future rounds"
With that, Aaron went back to his position for the second round of the match, preparing to defend himself from his opponent's attacks while also trying to score a point on him.
