This thread is part of the EXPLORE THE WILDERNESS EVENT.
OPENING CEREMONY

Students from all over would arrive throughout the morning to the local village and take the cable car or walk the footpath up to the New Moon Gate of the school, the lowest level of the Uagadou. Those unfamiliar with the school's connections to the moon and how it reflects in the entrances would soon learn with them arriving through the New Moon Gate and then leaving through the First Quarter Gate.
Once inside, students would be greeted by the sounds of the waterfall that falls from the upper levels of the school. Immediately you would be able to notice the vast field of crops that the school relies on for their food supply, the large stone dormitories, as well as the entrances to the Great Hall and Small Hall. While many might not know what to expect when arriving at the school that is housed inside the cavernous mountain, they might be pleasantly surprised to see all the natural features the school holds inside and outside with streams flowing down from each level, fields of grass outside of each entrance.
From there our guests would notice a few statues placed leading from the entrance to the Great Hall, each with a plaque on it that shared information about different aspects of the school for those who had never had the pleasure of visiting or hearing about the school before.
Uagadou Origins
Reducio
The first statue you would see right at the entrance tells the history of the school, a depiction of the mountainous landscape carved out of the stone with the plaque sitting on the base below it. While very little is known about the beginnings of the school, some say it was founded by one person while some say it was founded by a group or tribe. Uagadou's origins are shrouded in as much mist as the mountains the school resides in. The Uagadou Tribe, as they have come to be known as, were said to have resided in the mountains, some say the very location the school is at today, and remained loyal to the founder's teachings. What mattered most to the tribe was their ethics and beliefs as well as practicing humility. Uagadou School of Magic was officially founded in the 8th century and has since grown to be one of the oldest and largest wizarding schools.
Uagadou, The Moon
and Dreams
Reducio
The next statue is of a young girl holding a Dream Token in her hands. The tribe held a strong connection to the Moon, Sky and Dreams. The mountains the school is located in is even referred to as the Mountains of the Moon, the mountains themselves are believed to be something of a legend to muggles while the school sits carved into the hidden mountain. The school itself has four entrances, Moon Gates, which open in each phase of the moon cycle associated with the gate, Full Moon, New Moon, First Quarter and Last Quarter. Dreams have played a heavy part in the school's history with the tribe strongly believing that every child should have the opportunity to follow their dreams, no matter what that dream is. This belief has continued as each year the Headmaster sends Dream Messengers to the prospective students on January 1st. The students must complete a simple ritual to accept the invitation to the school. Under the light of the moon, they will hold the Dream Token that they received from the Dream Messenger up towards the moon and recite the phrase "Together, we will follow our dreams" in whatever language they choose. Some say they see a young girl around the age of 10 in their dreams when they receive the token, legend says this is a direct descendant of the founder of the tribe.
Uagadou Talents
Reducio
The last statue the students would come across on the way to the Great Hall is of a Three-Horned Chameleon. From the time of the Uagadou Tribe through current times, Uagadou has held certain specialties and talents, one of the most prominent is that of the shapeshifter legends. With the tribe having spiritual connections to nature and animals, it was said that all the members of the tribe were skilled shapeshifters who were able to transform themselves into a single animal at will, recognized later to be animagi. Now the students of Uagadou are not only known to be skilled in Transfiguration but also Astronomy and Alchemy. All three of which are specialty options that students can choose from, if they wish to, at the end of their fourth year and continue on a specialized educational journey which opens up more opportunities for them for gaining mentors, summer internships and future careers. The school is also known for the students adeptness at Wandless Magic, many of whom learn to use it earlier on in their education.
With everyone gathering in the Great Hall area they would notice the large circular tables decorated with floral arrangements comprised of two flower species that the students would likely see over the coming days, Everlasting Flowers and Wild Orchids. Silver and Purple banners hang from the ceiling while enchanted candles float along the walls above some bunches of Red-Hot Poker plants, another species local to the area. In the center of the room is the Sculpture of Dreams, which looks different to each person who lays eyes on it as it reflects their personal greatest dream, that has names of graduated students carved into the base of it.
Standing at the front of the Great Hall, Nadira awaits everyone to settle into their seats before beginning her opening speech. She stood behind a large wooden podium with her hands behind her back and gazed out over the groups of students from all the different international magic schools. Finally she cleared her throat and spoke with her amplified voice, "Karibuni wote!" Welcome all She spoke clearly and loud enough with the aid of magic to catch the students' attention. With the chatter quickly dying down she continued, "Welcome students and faculty to Uagadou. We are so very pleased to have you all attending this event hosted by myself and Headmaster Albrecht." She smiled brightly as she spoke, letting her hands rest on the podium in front of her. "Today you will all be treated to a lovely lunch prepared for you with ingredients from our very own fields and then you will be taking part in setting up your tents with your tentmates. I hope you will all enjoy yourselves throughout the week. Now," she began to say as the lunches appeared in front of the students, "enjoy your meals, you will need all the energy you can get." She smiled and chuckled softly before stepping away from the podium.

Lucy was already looking around before they had even properly entered the school. She had never been inside a mountain before. Well, not one that had a school inside it anyway. The waterfall caught her attention first. She stopped for a moment to watch the water rushing down from somewhere above, following it with her eyes until it disappeared along another level of the school. There were streams too. Actual streams running through the school. Cool. There were also crops growing nearby, which only made her more curious. She wanted to know what they grew. And what lived in the streams. And whether there were frogs. There had to be frogs. But which kind?

❀ ────────────────────────── ✽ ────────────────────────── ❀

Lucy eventually continued toward the Great Hall with the others, although she didn't get very far before the statues caught her attention. She stopped in front of the first one and read the plaque carefully. Then the second.

Dreams. A Dream Token.

She found herself staring at the statue of the young girl for a little longer than she had at the first one. The idea of seeing someone in a dream who might have lived hundreds of years ago was strange enough, but the whole thing about following your dreams was something Lucy could understand. Although her dreams were simple. She moved on.

The last statue stopped her completely. A Three-Horned Chameleon. Lucy leaned closer. Her notebook was already in her hands before she released her gaze of it. She began to draw the chameleon on an empty page. It looked like a dinosaur to her. She knew of the species before. She knew that this one had to be male because it had the horns, just like a triceratops. So cool. Once her sketch was finished she moved on with the proudest of smiles.

❀ ────────────────────────── ✽ ────────────────────────── ❀

Lucy passed a sculpture that, to her, looked like snowy lands, with people scattered all around it. Others seemed amazed by it, though she wasn't entirely sure why. It was just snow. She loved snow, but people seemed far too excited about it.

❀ ────────────────────────── ✽ ────────────────────────── ❀

Once she finally made her way to the tables and got seated, she still was scanning her surroundings trying to catch a glimpse of everything before the chance was gone. Then suddenly a greeting in foreign language stopped everyone. The chatter filling the hall ended immediately and heads turned toward the source of the voice.

After the short speech was almost over, a meal appeared in front of everyone. The food looked so good. Lucy was starving, more so after seeing the food. She looked around and waited to see that others started eating before she did. Just to make sure she didn’t start ahead of any customs.

Bella had never been to Uagadou. Ever. She heard of the school, of course, that was located in Africa, but she has never been to Africa, either. She was super excited and walked with a bounce in her step up the footpath of the New Moon Gate, her tentmates and friends by her side.

Bella knew that students from all over the different magical schools would attend this event, and she was eager to meet some new faces as well as get to know everyone better. She heard that the school was especially connected to the moon, though she wasn't sure why, but she thought the gate had an appropriate name as the New Moon Gate.

Upon entering the school, Bella heard the rushing sound of...a waterfall? Indeed, it was a grand waterfall, falling from the upper levels to the lowest levels of the school. There were also large stone buildings, grass, and so many other sights that Bella couldn't stop admiring.

As soon as she broke herself out of her daze, Bella tugged on Xio's arm and muttered, "Woahh, isn't this amazing? What do you think of it?" She then tapped her friend from Slytherin, Irene, on the shoulder and asked both of them, "Don't you hear the waterfall? This school is so connected to nature, right? Wow..."

Bella let out a gasp as she saw the statues leading to the Grand Hall, each with a plaque on it that made Bella stop to read until one of her tentmates tugged and pulled her away.

When everyone arrived in the Great Hall of Uagadou, Bella spun in a circle and looked to Xio.
"What do you think, compared to the Hogwarts Great Hall? They are both so grand, aren't they? Have you ever been to Uagadou? Wait, I should have asked this before."

Bella then spun to a stop and turned to look at her tentmates. "Have any of you been to Uagadou to visit or at least seen the front of it? I feel like I should have, but I've never. How about you all?"

Finally, after a short while, a woman stood in the front and introduced herself and the other headmaster, Headmaster Albrecht. She told them all to eat a good meal and get all the energy they needed for the rest of the day. The food started to appear in front of them, and Bella laughed.

"This is just like the first day, isn't it? Our first day, with the sorting ceremony and all. But now we can all sit together, although we are from different houses, and ooh, I just can't wait!" Bella squealed, then reminded herself to tone it down a bit. She smiled at her tentmates, "Sorry, sorry. Umm...want to introduce ourselves to each other? I already know some of you, but still, basic introductions for review? What do you all think?"
OOC Notes: I thought we could do basic introductions here, and then get to know each other later in a separate tent thread of our own if we would like! :)

It has been a while since Chuki stood in front of the Dream Messenger statue. Despite years since Chuki had the dream, she remembered the young girl's face so clearly. Chuki kept her arms folded, staring up at the statue with disappointed longing. Since that night, she no longer dreamed of the girl, despite her curiosity plaguing her. Did she too dream? A young girl, never to have the chance to grow strong and wise. To see a world beyond that of the dreams she resides in.

Or perhaps she was able to see the world through the eyes of the children that came after her. Whatever it may be, Chuki knew she would be seeing beyond Uagadou and her own tribe soon enough. This 'Durmstrang' was supposedly filled with hardy warriors. Even girls were allowed to achieve greatness. But it was 'cold.' Even something called 'snow' existed there. The 'snow' was white, matching her school robes.

Apparently, it would be in her best interest to wear even more stifling footwear than the sandals she was forced to wear. Chuki was starting to wonder if she'd regret partaking in the event, taking a majorly keen interest in observing the San people's livelihood. They lived too far from the Mwanamke Tribe to be available for any sort of trading. A shame, as their weaving would make for beautiful architecture and furniture.

For now, she'll have to work to entertain 'guests' in her own home before she'd dare thread along to other homes as a 'guest' of her own. And what's a better manner than proving the food wasn't poisoned?

Chuki turns away, heading off to the tables covered in various foods. So far, nothing seemed to invest her interest and she was sure that the food was reasonably more designed to cater to foreign tastes. But she attempted something, a mandazi (a fluffy fried bread) that she was quite familiar with at home. She ate away, deciding to risk it with trying the rather endless bread with nearby sauces and stews that littered the table she decided to sit at.

Xio would have been an unyielding missile of curiosity if the grand architecture had not continually distracted her. Every few steps, something new caught her attention: a carved arch disappearing into the mountainside, a wall built from stone that seemed to grow naturally out of the earth, or a cluster of dark rocks that might have been ordinary debris—or might have been placed there deliberately centuries ago.

She wanted to touch everything.

She wanted to press her palms against the walls, trace the grooves in the stone, and determine which parts of the structure had been shaped by human hands and which had simply been left to the whims of the landscape. The school did not merely sit on the land; it seemed to belong to it. Its towers, bridges, and courtyards blended so seamlessly with the surrounding cliffs that Xio could hardly tell where the architecture ended and the mountain began. The only thing preventing her from darting away from the group was the distant awareness that she had teammates watching her.

That—and the possibility of embarrassing herself, her teammates, and all of Hogwarts at once. So Xio kept her body under control. Her mind and mouth, however, were making up for it.
Bella, why don’t we have a waterfall?”
She asked, turning her head so quickly that her hair brushed across her face.
Wait, no, I take it back. The Highlands are freezing on a typical day. Perhaps it’s best that we don’t have a waterfall after all.

She glanced toward the distant rush of water and immediately reconsidered.
We should go touch it later.
The idea had barely left her mouth before she began plotting several possible routes to the waterfall. There was a narrow passage branching off behind one of the outer courtyards. It looked as though it might connect to a lower path, and if the group paused at the right moment—or if Xio managed to fall just far enough behind without anyone noticing—she could investigate. She was already imagining the walk.

First, she would follow the stone railing toward the lower terrace. Then she would cut across the garden, assuming the garden was not restricted. If it was restricted, she could perhaps climb over the side wall. Not that she would. Probably. The waterfall looked close enough to reach, and the sound of it seemed to vibrate through the ground beneath her shoes. For the moment, she forced herself to keep walking.

The procession moved through another vast corridor, its ceiling rising several stories overhead. Patterns had been carved into the stone above them—interlocking shapes that seemed to shift depending on where she stood. Xio tipped her head back, trying to follow the design to its center, and nearly walked into Bella. Bella had stopped beside a small plaque mounted on the wall.
Oh,” Xio murmured, blinking as she looked down. “What does that say?
Bella had already begun reading the inscription. Xio leaned slightly in her direction, but her attention was drawn back toward the ceiling almost immediately. There was something about the way the sunlight entered through the high windows, striking the carved stone and turning the shadows into layered patterns. She wondered whether the ceiling had been designed to resemble the surrounding mountains—or whether the mountains had influenced the ceiling at all.

By the time she looked down again, the rest of the students had continued forward.
Oh.” Xio reached out, caught Bella gently by the sleeve, and tugged her along. “We’re falling behind,” she whispered, though her gaze remained fixed on the ceiling, distracted herself. “We can come back and read it properly later.
As the group continued through the school, Bella asked whether anyone on the team had ever visited Uagadou. It seemed unlikely, unless one of them had a close friend or family member who attended. That possibility also seemed fairly remote.

Xio considered the question for half a second before raising her hand slightly.
I have,” she said. “Once, but only for a Quidditch match. My brother was playing against their team, and we didn’t get to see the actual school. We stayed near the pitch and the visiting grounds, so this is quite the delightful treat.
She looked around again, her expression brightening as if the word treat had reminded her of something.

There were no two sections of the building that looked exactly alike. Some corridors were open to the sky, while others were tucked beneath enormous stone overhangs. Vines curled around pillars. Water ran through narrow channels beside the walkways. Even the doors seemed to have been designed with a kind of deliberate individuality, each one carrying different symbols, colors, or patterns.

Xio was beginning to suspect that Uagadou had been built specifically to make guests lose track of time.

Eventually, the group entered the hall and began taking their seats. The moment everyone had settled, food appeared across the tables in a coordinated rush. Dishes materialized in bright bowls and wide platters, filling the air with unfamiliar aromas—smoke, citrus, spice, roasted herbs, and something sweet that Xio could not identify. She leaned toward Bella, eyes widening.
It’s almost like Hogwarts,” she whispered. “Almost.
The dishes were far more colorful than what they typically saw in the Great Hall. Bright vegetables, vividly colored sauces, unfamiliar fruits, and steaming portions covered the tables. Some ingredients looked recognizable, though prepared in ways Xio had never encountered. Others were complete mysteries. She pointed toward a dish near Bella’s plate.
The food here definitely has a lot more color, and there are ingredients we don’t commonly see at Hogwarts. Be careful. There might be extra-spicy things in their diet.
Xio paused, then reached for a piece of bread as though she were preparing for an emergency.
If something starts smoking, do not swallow it. That is my first piece of advice.

Zephyr thought he’s already seen enough unfamiliar things to keep his mind occupied for the rest of the day but he was dead wrong. His first look at Uagadou began from the village, the school was somewhere inside that enormous mountain. He knew that much, but knowing it and actually standing on it were two different things. Hogwarts was impressive already the first time he saw it from across the black lake, but visiting another magical school still gave him that same strange feeling of stepping into somewhere he had previously known only as a name. He chose the footpath and there was also the cable car available. It would have been quicker if he chose the latter but after travelling all the way here by portkey, walking sounded better for him right now. Besides, the climb gave him an excuse to look around.

When he reached the New Moon Gate, he was warm from the walk but with more interest in the entrance itself. New Moon Gate. He repeated the name internally as he entered, curious as to why it was called that. Hogwarts had gates obviously but there’s nothing based on the phases of the moon. It was the sound of the water that greeted him as soon as he was inside. His attention went there automatically and spotted the waterfall. Streams reached the grounds as well and beyond that were neverending grass and a large area with crops. “Wooow…” Does Uagadou grew their own food for the school right here? His mother would like this place and she would spend asking what they grew and if she could take seeds home. He smiled and followed everyone else to what look like a great hall. It was the statues that distracted him on the way.

He would stop once in a while to read the plaque. Uagadou was founded in the eighth century, but by how many was uncertain. Hogwarts was said to have four founders whose names every student knew but in here, the school’s beginning was combination of stories passed down over centuries. He liked the part about humility. The next statue of a young girl holding what was called Dream Token which answered his question about the gates, and it seemed it created six more. Four entrances and four phases of the moon. Zephyr read about the Dream Messengers and how prospective students received their invitations. His eyebrows rose when he reached the ritual. They don’t receive envelopes here but a girl appearing in dreams to leave a token that one had to hold under the moon while reciting a phrase. Zaria would have been unbearably jealous. The words - Together, we will follow our dreams was quite nice.

The final statue was easy to recognise as an animal, although he had never seen a three horned chameleon ever. He read the plaque and stopped at the section about shapeshifting. All of them? His eyes widened. The story claimed members of the original tribe were able to transform into animals, something now understood as Animagus magic. Zephyr knew becoming an Animagus was not that simple. Imagine an entire group skilled at it was difficult to imagine. There was also the Transfiguration which he struggled the most. Why is it that impressive magical abilities always involve Transfiguration? Finding out that Uagadou students were accomplished at it was not reassuring.

Once at the great hall, purple and silver banners were the ones that greeted him. There were also candles floated on the walls, and flowers covered the circular tables. He recognised none of them and made a mental note to find out what they were soon. If he was visiting somewhere with plants he’s never seen before, then he’s not going home without learning at least a few names. When he saw the Sculpture of Dreams, he was not certain what he was looking at but after seeing something there, he looked away. He found a place at one of the circular tables and sat down, but even then, he couldn’t stop himself from glancing around while students from different schools joined them. When someone’s voice amplified voice was heard throughout the Hall with a loud ‘Karibuni wote!’, his attention went to the lady. He didn’t know what the words means but he surmised it must be a welcome greeting for obvious reasons.

I could not wait to go to the African magic school, Uagadou. I was participating in the ‘Explore the Wilderness’ event. The only magical school I had ever been to was my own, Hogwarts. I was excited to experience other school’s cultures and make new friends.

The Portkey glowed a bright, electrifying blue. I put my hand, which was trembling with excitement, on it. It was the weirdest sensation, as though I was being pressed up against a wall. When I felt brave enough to open my tightly shut eyes, I was no longer at Hogwarts, but at Uagadou.

It was rather hot; for I was in Africa. Rocks carved into archways led the path towards the school, while the building shone with the glowing sunlight. It was more like the school was a part of the surrounds, instead of on it. It was almost a mirror image of Hogwarts. It was a stunning view.

There was a long line to enter Uagadou. I spied my friends, Bella Light and Xio Arcana, a little further up in the line. As usual, Xio was talking like crazy while Bella tried to listen. Xio only stopped talking when the Headmistress of Uagadou, Nadira Bakari, welcomed us graciously into her school.

Irene was pacing around the Portkey. Overly excited, she nearly missed the Portkey as it glowed blue and shook on the table. She only just got her finger in time. It was a weird sensation: it felt as though she was pulled by an invisible hook in the stomach.

She fell hard on the ground. It was rather hot as it was in Africa, no longer Hogwarts, but Uagadou. There was sound of a waterfall nearby. She looked around for the source 0f the waterfall. It was falling from the upper levels to the lowest levels of the school.

She walked wonderingly through the door and the Great Hall. Large circular tables stood in the Hall, decorated with Everlasting Flowers and Wild Orchids. Silver and Purple banners hang from the ceiling while enchanted candles float along the walls above some bunches of Red-Hot Poker plants, another species local to the area. The Sculpture of Dreams stood in the centre of the Hall, it had names of graduated students carved into the base of it.

Bella spun to a stop and turned to look at her tentmates. 'Have any of you been to Uagadou to visit or at least seen the front of it? I feel like I should have, but I've never. How about you all?'

'No,' said Irene vaguely, still looking around in awe. 'my mother had spoken about it, but I've never saw it.'

A woman and Headmaster Albrecht greeted them in the Hall, told them to have a great meal and get all the energy they need for the rest of the day. Food started to appear in front of them magically, reminding Irene of her first day at Hogwarts. But the food were different (obviously). As Irene had no idea what foods the Africans eat, she hesitated before taking some food.

'This is just like the first day, isn't it? Our first day, with the sorting ceremony and all. But now we can all sit together, although we are from different houses, and ooh, I just can't wait!' Bella squealed, 'Sorry, sorry. Umm...want to introduce ourselves to each other? I already know some of you, but still, basic introductions for review? What do you all think?'

'Yes, that's what I thought, too,' Irene smiled slightly, 'it's just like the first day at Hogwarts. Sure, why don't we introduce ourselves? I'm Irene Sterling Stone, Slytherin first year, Hogwarts student.'

OOC: Uagadou's so cool! ...but wait I'm confused...which post am I s'posed to reply to?? Bella's or Xio's or Nessa's....??

Elara stayed with the group during the walk through Uagadou. She didn't say much. There was already so much to take in. The waterfall was the first thing that really stood out to her. The sound of the water could be heard from quite far away. She glanced towards it as they walked, wondering how high it was. She wasn't tempted to wander off, though. There were too many people around, and she didn't want to get separated from the group. The statues along the way caught her interest too. She slowed down when she saw the plaques beside them. There was a lot of history behind this place. Elara wished she had more time to stop and read everything.

When Bella asked if anyone had visited Uagadou before, Elara shook her head. "No. I've never been here before." It was true. This was her first time seeing another magical school. The Great Hall was just as interesting. Elara took in the flowers on the tables and the silver and purple banners. Her attention went to the Sculpture of Dreams next. She hadn't seen anything like it at Hogwarts. Elara looked at the names carved into its base. She wondered what the sculpture was for. She eventually took her seat. Food appeared across the tables soon after. Elara wasn't sure what some of it was. She recognized a few things, but not everything. After Xio's warning, she was especially careful with anything that looked too spicy.

She picked something familiar first. Bella's comment about the meal reminded Elara of Hogwarts. The first day had been a little like this. Everyone was meeting new people. The difference was that this time, they weren't all from Hogwarts. Then Bella suggested introductions. Elara listened as Irene went first. She wasn't sure if she should be next, but no one else seemed to be speaking yet. I suppose I should introduce myself too. She sat a little straighter. "I'm Elara Whitlock. I'm a first year from Hufflepuff. Nice to meet you all." That was enough for her. Elara picked up her fork again and waited to hear who would introduce themselves next.

____Another travel abroad. There is nothing to hold her fired up spirit to step her foot to the place she never have been before. A chance to explores, also getting more knowledge and experiences waiting in front of her very eyes. She's really excited for today!

____Intentionally slower her pace to Uagadou School, Millie followed the footpath so she can immerse more of these foreign natures and over all environment her eyes could ever caught. An open, lively space she always dreams to see directly with her own eyes. Now that little list of dreams has slowly granted although she also realized that is only a beginning for more and exciting sight seeing she could receive. Her spirit once again pumped up.

____Once she arrived at the school entrance, Millie clenched her fist tightly on her skirt, the only thing she could do to hold herself not to jump out of excitement to the magnificent panorama and unique architecture of the school. She admitted Hogwarts is already perfect with its own style, but Uagadou has its own style that could rivaling the Scottish magical school too. Her eyes roaming around everywhere even to the minor detail she must squinted her eyes. She stood longer before the chameleon statue, then quickly dragged her feet (reluctantly) to the seat in seemingly Great Hall once she realized she almost left alone there. Not long after, a woman took the position behind the podium and begin her welcoming speech proudly.

____One another thing Millie always likes in this kind of event is obviously the feast. The girl hopes the foods their offered at least contain one dish she never have seen or known before. Their local cuisine. Millie wandered her eyes, wondering what to choose since she almost know nothing about the dishes laid out before her eyes. Once she got what she wanted, it didn't take her long to caught a person she assumed must know much about this school, eating her own food. Somewhat hesitant, the girl approached that local girl anyway.

____Millie said nothing after she sat in front of her, guarding herself behind 'anyone can sit wherever they like'. She then tore the bread in her hand and slowly savored the taste in silence, yet couldn't help but display her honest expression with these tasty food invading her mouth.

____"'Tis is amazing," she murmured out of her breath, then realized she wasn't the only person in the room.
