Hans had left. It was obvious. No one was around again. On her face was a mask of madness, the tears having fractured her conscience. She had gone too far. People weren’t meant to break together, no. One would break and one would fix and those broken alone would never be fixed. Did the girl know this moment was the start of her mind’s fracture? She didn’t. But that day, she had inevitably changed. Her outlook on people had always been pessimistic despite a happy childhood. But she had never viewed magic that way. It felt like life was hopeless, for the first time. Would anyone find her?

She raced through the open doors and slid down to the floor. It was cold. It reminded her of home. Thoughts jumbled, running one after the other. When one wanted to comfort, they’d seek one with pain. Not one with rage. And all she had now, was rage. Rage at the cosmos for ending a life that should have continued till the world was wrapped with dust. Rage at the world for telling her pristine blood hides tears. And maybe it was true. Rage at her brother for conforming yet rebelling, his own cracks drawing her in and destroying her slowly, as her body began to numb from the rage.

But she couldn’t scream again. She thought of the soft kindness and turned her head the other way.

She would regret this come morning.

Russian didn’t fall of her tongue, but a fractured sentence in Ukrainian. Fractured like her mind. “Why, who… Who in the cosmos chose.. why is he gone? Why did he leave me.. and I need to pretend… pretend I never cared? My dad, my dad.” Breathless, running from herself and the world. It wasn’t curfew. They still had time. The ball would be soon, but her mind hurt too much to go. The fire at Hogsmeade haunted her, she had been paralysed and could only run. She could only go to the station, like what they had told her. She couldn’t help. Because when she saw the fire, she thought of an explosion of two automobiles. Her father being crashed by one. Dead on impact. Dead..

All hope gone, she breathlessly crashed again. The cold floor feeling like salvation. It reminded her of her school. The place where she sometimes felt free. When she cast, seeing those lights leave her wand and strike opponents felt magical, in its own way. Group 5 was her home even if she had no friends. She’d stay there forever.

But she was at an English school. The girl she had been searching for was nowhere to be seen. And her head felt heavy. So much for tears.

She felt like she’d drown alone in tears that day. It wasn’t something meant to be shared.

OOC note: start the Euge arc, start the Iriliya fragmentation process, make both my babies recognise each other. Great.

Curfew would be soon and the Karageorgiadi heiress knew that well.

Her head was pounding however, as she tried to fill a gnawing void in her heart that day. She couldn’t shake off the feeling of death all around her, apparent in seemingly every place. The mournful faces of the foreign students, the crater she would see every time she looked out of a window above ground towards Hogsmeade village. The stench of smoke carried all the way over to the castle and the Astronomy Tower, where Eugenia was cleaning equipment as an intern, mixed with a faint scent of burning flesh. She might have imagined it, yes, but it might have been true. An olfactory sensation her mind chose not to forget or let go of for days, while the view of the raging fire and chaos was seared on her eyelids. She wasn’t allowed to go there, no, and she heeded that rule. But she saw. And sometimes, seeing the entire picture and having a near perfect memory when it came to vital personal experiences is a combination that truly sucks.

An insatiable feeling was burdening her chest. It felt like she was searching for someone whose visage she remembered from a daydream. In three years, children can change, massively so. Yet as she searched for her friend from three summers ago, to see if she was alright, she could not find her. The explosion had been deadly; every time she saw a new face, a relief flooded her at the sight of life, while her mind was disappointed it was not Irina. After all that ordeal, feelings seemed to blend for no reason at the mere thought of the catastrophe. What did the kids affected by it think..?

Walking through the halls, the bubbly heiress would wave to classmates, but she wasn’t reaching her goal. While she didn’t dare go to the campgrounds, she had no option but to assume the girl was there. If in the next quarter of an hour Irina wasn’t found, her search for the day would once again be futile.

She neared the duelling club when she stopped dead in her tracks. A whisper could be heard, the language of Slavic origin, but it was not the Russian tongue. It was hurried, with odd pauses, the few words she could marginally understand were disjointed. The speaker’s breathing was heavy, yet the voice was unmistakable. It was that that caught her attention. She knew that voice.

Because that was the voice of the girl from three summers ago.

A memory caught her, one of the two of them laughing about how school would be. She had managed to make Irina feel welcome, back then, because she despised being sent to proper households of the high class for even a week. No, it had been four summers ago.

All this time, she had been all wrong.

Peering from the edge of the doorway, she looked just in time to see Irina slump to the floor, breathing heavy again from stifling sobs. She observed for a minute, the mad expression on the girl’s face. And she wondered. How could a young girl like her reach this kind of desperation? Had it been the fire or had something else led the girl down a rabbit hole? Yet, Eugenia couldn’t tear her eyes away from the girl, her Hufflepuff heart yearning to help her. They were friends, after all. She would help Irina go against the world of fear, I’m exchange for not hating pure bloods that much.

The badger chuckled audibly. That childish deal they had made, that no one agreed to. Attention turned to the girl on the floor, she remained standing, her hands clasped together. “If I were sure you would remember me, I’d ask you what happened before I ask if you remember me. But really, do you? Do you remember three, four summers ago?”
