Berry-ing Delight in The Late Sundae
Early November, 2026
____Walking through Diagon Alley's cobbled street in the particular closing year is not something crossed Millie's yearly plan even back then she was a first-year. However, today's occasion is a rare exception because if she missed this chance, nobody knows whether there will be another shot for her in the future or not.
____Almost reached the Flourish and Blotts—her favorite shop in Diagon Alley—Millie slower her pace as her eyes steadily watched the perimeter around the shop, also another shops surrounding it. She admitted it was her initial idea to just go out without any party knows where to go. She thought it would be the most fairest way so she won't know where exactly he would go and vice versa ... well, unless if he got some sight, or whatever that named is, which only makes this game no fun anymore. So she hopes not, as she turned her head away from the bookshop and head towards the ice cream parlor instead with a more relaxed face carved on her a-little-redden face and cheeks.
____Upon entering the sweets parlor, a sudden whiff of a sweet scent immediately strikes her nostril. Smiling at the worker behind the counter, Millie orders a portion of Brownie Alamode (although she craving more than that, just too bad she need to save her pocket money) and bring it along to the round table in the corner. The girl scooped a spoonful of her dessert into her mouth, inwardly squealed her joy as she tasting the sweet invades her mouth.
____Looking up, Millie took a glanced outside through the window as she wondering when will her 'date' arrive. Whereas he supposed to come at any moment from now, Millie not yet found any specific man she thought to be the person she just sent a letter yesterday. Sighs, she scooped another spoonfuls of her brownie into her mouth.
____When her focus was diverted, she didn't realized there come a tapping sounds, clicking softly while meeting the shop's tile beneath at the same time as another clicking glasses can also be heard from other customers eating their own desserts. That newcomer sound has stopped for a moment, as the owner of the cane stood behind the counter choosing their own order out of menu. When its tapping sound come once again, Millie only realized it when she looked up and caught a quite distinguished old man putting a portion of Berry Delight on her table.
____"Annhomestorn, are ya?" he said, with a playful smile adorned his tired yet lively, wrinkled face. Hearing that from the old man, Millie widen her eyes and nodded, a little too excited, as now she heard the old man let out a heartily laugh. He then sit across from the girl, leaning his cane against the wall behind him, and grinned. "It is now the right moment we should say 'Good Job' for our own winning, isn't it?"
____Millie took quite a moment absorbing this. The man sitting in front of her. How he spoke so expressively makes him a little off of his gentleman looks he shows on the surface. Yet, surprisingly enough from her own side, Millie didn't take long to grasped all of this suddenness. She dropped her guard and laugh along with the old man.
____"Oh, yes ... I think I can escape this entirely, what a bummer," he quickly scooped his delight and open his mouth once again even before his ice cream not yet swallowed. "It's Vexley. Arden Vexley. And you're marvelously right, I'm a son of one of Uncle Soren's close friends, Finneas Vexley. Hopes that ring a bell if you told me you've found his belonging that I assumed was his diary?"
____"How could you know that, Mr. Vexley?" Millie threw the question with a frown. "I mean, yes, you're right, it is his journal. And sure, I think I found he mentioned your father's name, Finn, and his cousin, Cal?"
____The old man nodded, then shrugged. "As I remembered, your great-grandfather always liked to do some journaling. Writing almost anything even if I thought that wouldn't be necessary to write."
____When she heard that, Millie felt a sudden wall distancing her from her own blood relative. She surely realized that the person sat and talked with her now is another person who ever met her great-grandfather when he still alive. He probably also the only one wizard who can tell her all about this because her Pa, even if he ever met his grandfather too just like Mr. Vexley, unfortunately he has no talent of magic whatsoever that being a cause and a limit she cannot dig all about her great-grandfather further from him.
____"But then why?" Arden Vexley blinked his eyes as he tilted his head to the young girl who suddenly looked down. "Why only now you reached on me? Isn't it too coincidental? I mean, you could sent me a letter right after I've been sorted. But in this case, you just do that now, couples of months after I found great-grandpa's journal?" Millie scratched her temple, staring intently at the old man. "How many secrets do you still have left from me, Mister?"
____Widen his eyes, Arden Vexley suddenly felt something beyond his expectation. He forcefully pushed whatever remain in his mouth into his throat as he softly clicked his tongue and sighed. "Here, Missy, do listen to me very carefully. We will going on this baby step, alright? I realized you're more genius and sharp than I was thought—I'm impressed with that—but even so, if you really liked to know, you must grip it from the very base of this case, you got me?"
____Squinting her eyes as she started to confused where this conversation went onto, Millie nodded her head anyway. Upon seeing that, Vexley nodded along while he wiped his mouth and begins his tale-tell from the very beginning.

Berry-ing Delight in The Late Sundae
Early November, 2026
____Among many discoveries she wanted to hear and find out about, Millie didn't expected she will going to listened about violence, brutality, trust, and betrayal. For a twelve years old like her, that was actually a little too much, although in some point the girl in question somewhat found the red string from what Arden Vexley told her with what she found out herself from the only resource her great-grandpa left for her.
____The most unexpected event/tragedy which came from the closest to him. The person who he thought as his own brother. Stabbed him in the back. Not literally stabbing him with sharp item nor weapon, no, but she could tell the impact much more greater than that.
____"Why would he do that?"
____The old man silent as the grave. Could only held his spoon in one hand without any intention poking it to his remaining delight. As if the answer was such a burden in its own right. As if he need to pushed his best force to lifted his tongue as great to that required to lift an elephant (without magic).
____"I have no idea."
____A silence so deafening fell between them. The girl even dropped her jaw to the ground, while the old man who just said that very unexpected phrase slowly scooted away until his back bumped the wall behind, failed to created more distances from the little miss before him.
____"No?" Millie furrowed her brows, deep. Pushing her face forward while scrutiny him, causing the poor man breaking out a cold sweat. "Didn't your father ever tell you? He is his cousin after all."
____"Sure he is, uh, was. And even so, he's still my uncle even if that was happened even before I was born into this world." Driven by frustration, Arden Vexley almost yelled that sentences and freaked the little girl out. He then cleared his throat as his bulging vein slowly swam back into his skin. He took a deep breath, and then looking straight at Millie who already dissipated her judging eyes toward him. "No. My father didn't say anything about that. Even until he breathed his last breath, no. Dad just told me that he really is a wolf in sheep's skin that he never even wanted to hear his name again. So please understand, Annhomestorn, you're not the only one in the mud. I'm still here too."
____Millie squinted her eyes. "With that being said ... you also need to see what Grandpa Soren has written in his journal to know that reason of betrayal?" Vexley widen eyes, then nodded his head rapidly. Beaming as the summer seeing how quickly she grasped this in only one sitting. However, Millie bit her inner lips as she pondering something. "I'm sorry to say this, but how can I trust you, Mister Vexley?"
____If that suspicion were thrown on to anybody, she definitely going to find it hard to make friends. That was what Arden Vexley thought which making him smiled and shaking his head slowly, that only makes the girl getting more confused by him. He then sighed, reached his hand out to ruffled Millie's hair.
____"'Course. You still must be wary of me. Survival first. Good kid. But not to worry. I won't gonna act like Uncle Callum and betrays you. Although you got my intention clear, here, I just wants to introduce myself to you and get to know the next generation of someone I used to know quite well." After saying that, Arden Vexley rummaging his pocket and pulled out a white envelope which he put it on the table so Millie can see it too. "I overslept and it's already too late to go to the post office, so I promise to go back tomorrow so your parents can also know the little thing of this matter ASAP."
____"Oh?" Millie rose her brows. "Can they know this too although they were muggles?"
____"Well, still, one of them is Uncle Soren's grandchild, right?" Vexley shrugged, put the envelope back into his jacket's pocket. "Unless there is one of your family members who can't keep their mouth sealed."
____Millie shook her head. Her Ma is far from that sort of person. Her Pa is a private person and has already withdrawn himself with his siblings since long ago. So the chance is almost unlikely.
____"Good." Arden Vexley put the spoon in his now empty glass of dessert. He then stood up and took his cane while rubbing his mouth with a handkerchief haphazardly. "Now, let's call it a day for today. I'll walk you back so if by any chance we're took too much time in the street, I can at least help fished you out from detention."
____Millie chuckled as she saw the old man winked his eyes playfully as if he still in his prime age.
