Finally, these bothersome meetings were coming to an end. This was the final one Antoine would have to attend before he returned to Beauxbatons, to freedom. Just one more time, and he would not have to worry about this until spring break. Antoine sighed, already lamenting the break that was still a few months away. No doubt, his parents would fill it up the same way they had filled up this one, without family, with strangers. He couldn't recall the last time they'd had a conversation longer than 5 minutes. Not that Antoine complained; he preferred it that way. As long as he stayed silent and unnoticeable, he was left alone. Unless, of course, there was to be a day like this, where he was to entertain and be responsible for someone else.
For once, his parents did not wait for Antoine at the door. Strange. They were usually quite insistent on formalities, and that the trio ought to greet any guest at the door. Still, Antoine wasn't complaining. As he left his room, he could hear the ringing sound of laughter from the hall as his parents escorted the guests into the dining room. Straightening himself, Antoine steeled himself for what would surely be an endless dinner, not to mention the scolding he would get after for taking too long and delaying until his parents were forced to open the door without him. That was something he would worry about later.
Antoine entered the golden and white dining room, immediately greeting the adults first, a fake, charming smile plastered on his face. His parents were quick to introduce the children to each other, and Antoine almost rolled his eyes. For a fleeting second, the boy's true feelings showed, but the moment passed as quickly as it came, his eyes returning to a warm expression.
"Welcome," he said to the boy, taking a seat across from him. Inevitably, they would make idle small talk before being ushered out by the adults, where Antoine would roam the halls and perhaps take this boy to the library or the music room, anywhere but his own. "My name is Antoine. Lovely to meet you." He was almost robotic, snapping himself back to the present, but there had been a faraway look in his eyes for half a second, as if he wasn't completely there. He was speaking from habit, not genuine interest.

⚔︎ Magnus wasn’t one to get excited about a trip to somewhere new. Especially if that place involved tagging along with his mother and father during the winter holiday for some sort of event. Magnus didn’t even know how this started truthful, one minute he was at Durmstrang discussing holiday plans with Noel and dreading spending time anywhere near his mother to now being trapped in a unknown place with his mother sounded like a worst punishment than being at home. That’s not to say this whole trip was bad of course, Magnus did get to see a few sites with his father whenever they weren’t near his mother and truly get to enjoy France and all it’s beauty. While he roamed around the city he did hear someone talking about how Paris was the city of love and he truly didn’t understand why, as noting screamed city of love anywhere he seen in France. Sure maybe he felt that way as he couldn’t love a country that forced him to be around his mother for a long period of time, but maybe he could look past that and just try to make the best of this trip.
Just when he thought he was free from this never ending nightmare it got worse. Not only did he now have to have dinner with his mother but he also had to be in an unknown house and play nice with a kid he didn’t even know. As the boy said welcome Magnus just scoffed as he crossed his arms and just stared at him before speaking. “Yeah yeah, listen no offense to you but I don’t even want to be here so you can cut the bullshit act of being nice.” sure was it hurtful ? Of course it was but Magnus didn’t give a fuck he truly did not want to be here at all and just go home where he could be alone.⚔︎

“Yeah yeah, listen no offense to you but I don’t even want to be here so you can cut the bullshit act of being nice.” Shit. Antoine was taken aback, but, more importantly, he was scared. A note of panic settled into him as he frantically glanced towards his parents, with much less subtlety than he would like, and then turned back to the boy. Quickly, he regained his composure, a slight bit of anger settling within him. This boy was going to ruin everything. He may have nothing to lose, but Antoine did. He couldn't afford to thwart expectations, especially not this close to his return to school. After this, he could hide away in his room and count down the days until he was back at Beauxbatons, but he could not afford to end on a bad note. His parents would never let him hear the end of it. No, they couldn't know of this boy's behavior, they would simply blame it on Antoine for not making him feel welcome enough.
Adjusting himself, Antoine took a step forward, looking at the other boy with narrowed eyes. His parents hadn't heard this, and he had to make sure it didn't happen again. Debating what to say, he finally decided to take the honest approach, something most people often wouldn't get out of him. "You may have nothing to lose, but I do. I can't afford..." he paused, nodding at the boy, alluding towards his behavior. "This. So just play nice in front of them. Fair enough?" He glanced at his parents again, who were blissfully unaware of the predicament their son was in. His voice had been low, making sure they couldn't hear the way he'd spoken. He hated this, the feeling of being at the mercy of someone else. This boy could ruin everything with minimal effort, and Antoine would have to bear the consequences.
The adults exited the room as his parents led everyone to the dining room. Breathing a sigh of relief, he took a step aside, slumping against the wall. He had a few moments before he led the boy to the dining room, too, and he hoped his parents would assume they'd just gotten carried away in conversation. But here was the moment for honesty, and Antoine looked at the other boy expectantly, waiting to see what he would do. Antoine was now much more relaxed, visibly, at the absence of his parents. His stiff, straight back had slouched, his hands had entered his pockets, and his pose was that of mild disinterest. A facade, to be sure, but he had already been far too open in front of this boy when he had failed to mask his panic. And he would not let this boy know his fear again.

⚔︎ Magnus Couldn’t believe what he was hearing, this boy truly thought Magnus would care about “playing nice” and not making a scene so he could keep impressing his parents. Now please that was absolutely ridiculous as that’s just bending to someone else’s rules and one thing about him was, he was never good at following rules ever. In fact he felt highly offended just by the thought of it as no one and he meant no one would be telling him what he can and can’t do. His red eyes hidden away under light blue contacts just stared at Antonine before poking his chest and speaking. “Listen here, I don’t care what you got to lose, playing nice is me losing my dignity so why the hell would I even consider doing that. So you can play nice and act like a little obedient doll but I don’t play that bullshit.” Magnus figured if he cussed the boy out in his own language it would get his point across and throw him off long enough for Magnus to give him the slip and escape somewhere much more quieter.
Magnus wasn’t one to enjoy unfamiliar environments and he was in a completely different country so of course he was various of everything surrounding him. Times like this made him wish he could just go home and disappear into the shadows until he couldn’t be seen again. He hated people and just being around them it made his skin crawl and not in the fun way, so having some fancy dinner party where he had to dress up fancy and somewhat presentable for was a pain in his ass.
He leaned against the wall as he motioned for the other boy to lead the way since this was his house and Magnus honestly didn’t want to be greeted with fake smiles and bullshits attitudes.⚔︎
