It was hot for summer. He didn't much care for the heat, unlike some people. Mochi also didn't like it but that was to be expected with a fur coat like hers. She mewed at him as he approached the stadium with his Firebolt in hand and he smiled down at her. "Don't worry, Mochi. You need to stay in the stands for now and watch me from there. It's not safe to be with me while I go flying, this is a rough sport." She almost pouted, Tone could see her lips go in that direction and he couldn't help but smile. "You're such a cutie." He said and leaned down to kiss the top of her head. Once Mochi trotted away, Tone turned his attention to his fellow teammates. This time they would be partnering up with two other schools.

He knew a few people from Uagadou and quite a few from Durmstrang. Valentin Schnell was supposed to be the seeker on the latter team. But as Tone approached the stands, he didn't see him anywhere. Someone else was in his place and he tilted his head to the side. Ah, right! He'd graduated. What a shame. He'd been looking forward to seeing him out on the field again. Perhaps he'd come and was watching in the stands! Tone smiled as he looked around him and waved to @Jamie Carville, the other beater who had taken Sara's spot. "Welcome to the team, Jamie! I'm sure you'll do fine, don't be too stressed and just do your best!" He told her and mounted his broom when the whistle blew like everyone else.

The leather arm and shin guards sat firm over where they were strapped on her skin. It was the telltale stiffness of new gear, still weeks from being broken into a more comfortable tightness. Lyudmila grinned down at them. They had been gifts to celebrate her miraculous recovery from Spattergroit earlier on in the year. It had been tough work, and she liked to think that she deserves it!

'Rose from death's brink and already throwing herself straight back,' Her mother had lamented when she heard her daughter's choice of gift. As if the woman hadn't been the first to help meticulously pack away the newly-purchased gear into her trunk the week before Lyudmila had left for the inter-school summer camp. She totally loves me, the part-veela grinned to herself smugly.

The silver arrow rested in her hands in an awkward weight. Lyudmila mentally groaned. The brunette had gotten quite used to Koldovstoretz's signature preference for brooms, fashioned from trees grown personally by the students. The skinny handle of this one was honestly weird, but she hadn't been able to go back to school to get her usual loaned broom from the school, so she did what she had to do: Borrow the broom of her newly-discovered, wealthy, annoying cousin, Erast Yan. The boy had looked almost painted when he offered his silver arrow to her the day before her departure. However, his reluctance was outweighed by the horror that she would consider borrowing from Hogwarts' stockpile of communal school brooms. "Posh bastard," she rolled her eyes.

Lyudmila stepped onto the Quidditch pitch with her team, the warmth of the summer sunshine sending a small, pleased shiver through her body. It's been so long since she's been on an actual Quidditch pitch, the last being for practice back at Koldovstoretz. The weather was welcoming, the stands are packed– This was going to be awesome!

Stephen stepped onto the pitch and felt the warmth settle over him — not hot, not really, just the kind of pleasant sun Moraga would call “a nice morning.” Hogwarts, of course, was acting like everyone was walking around in a blast furnace. He let the brightness wash over him, amused, and tapped the toe of his right boot twice against the grass.

His grandmother told him the double tap “knocked the dust off the nerves.” He’d done it before every exam, every performance, every match since he was eight. Today was no different.

As he checked the toe of his boot to make certain no grass had stuck to it, he could hear murmurs about the heat. For some reason, he was reminded of a song Mrs. Tramel, his caretaker as a child and now his father’s housekeeper back home, used to hum while cooking on summer afternoons. Before he could stop himself, he started singing under his breath as he looked at his team gathering together on the pitch. Because he was feeling in a particularly good mood, the humming became a full-on moment of joy. He grabbed the broom handle of his Starsweeper and held it with both hands as if it were a Muggle microphone and began to sing, surprisingly well as it turned out.

“We’re havin’ a heat wave… a tropical heat wave…”

The next line in the real song happened to be, “The temperature’s rising, it isn’t surprising…” but Stephen changed it, because Hogwarts deserved a little teasing.

“The temperature’s rising… at Hogwarts it's surprising…”

The rhythm matched almost perfectly — same beat, same bounce — but as quickly as he had started, he spun the broom handle back around and swung his leg over it. "What can I say? I love the heat," he said, shrugging his shoulders while grinning at all of them.

He then glanced toward the stands, just long enough to wonder if EmmaLee was up there anywhere, and felt that familiar flutter in his chest. Let it go Schwartz. Let her go. Then he turned his head slightly toward Miles, who was adjusting his gloves with that focused, last-year intensity. Who was he kidding? Miles always wore that look of intensity.

“Hey,” Stephen called softly, just for him. “My dad always says, ‘Suck until you succeed.’”

Miles grinned, after first snorting. It was exactly the reaction Stephen had wanted, and he laughed. “We’ve got this, Miles. This year we succeed and send you off with a win.”

Then he directed his golden retriever optimism to spur on his whole team. "You hear that, everyone? We’ve all got this!”

This game felt strange, which it shouldn't be. She had been playing the same game for years now yet something about it this time was telling Miharu: It was not the same game that she's used to.

Don't get her wrong. Quidditch still had a place in her heart. Sure, she might've taken a break at some point but she still returned to it. If not, then she wouldn't be here playing in the first place. No, it was not because she had lost her passion for it but rather because of the lack of certain people in their team. Gone were the familiar teammates she had gotten used to, their seniors specifically. She doesn't have anything against their new players. In fact, she was grateful that they joined their team after the loss of some of their members, keeping it alive. It was just strange to be standing here when the seniors that she used to rely on a lot, (*cough* Sara-senpai *cough*) had already graduated.

Ah, no good. She can't be standing here spacing out. She had to focus and make their seniors proud. They still have strong members and the new ones looked promising. Miharu turned her attention to where her team was, joining them and giving Kanae Suzuki a small smile when she saw her before getting into position.
