Day 1 - Morning slot

An exchange of spells as loud as it was exciting.

Both sides knew this was a crucial moment. Incantations with intent to harm filled the air. Mahlioz would repeat the flipendo from last round - perhaps hoping it would actually connect with something this round. Jack would take his turn casting the disabling magic, one obscuro. And Hanako would represent the snakes in this round's explosion category with a cracker jinx. Edward would match Hanako, with a cracker jinx of his own. But he was not the most impressive representative for his team. No that title would go to one Mr. Eden. Cassius would not be inhibited by any bindings - he would conjure up a double dose of confringo through what seemed like sheer will. Gyle's mouth went a bit agape at the sight of it.

Eden's confringos were first across the piste. Precise aim led both bundles of energy to burst on top of both Hanako and Jack. The blindfold was next. Through smoke and thunder it would wrap itself upon the assailant's face. Mahlioz's flipendo would slip on past Edward with a careful dodge, but lead the poor lad into a face full of crackers. Hanako's jinx would pop, missing Cassius, but finding the near-dead bird. As he began to fall, his crackers also popped. Popped Jack to the floor with him. Jack would take the full force of the explosion while the radials would catch each of the snakes. Not a bad way to go.

"PAUSE!" Gyle would shout as loud as he could. "PAUSE!" He'd say again, just to make sure everyone could hear him through the hearing damage. The duelists would be rushed off piste and towards the infirmary. When they were safely underway Gyle would call out "RESUME!"

"Confringo!"

Bound and soon to be blind, Cassius was not in the best of situations as the duel neared the end. The lone man standing for team Ravenclaw had been worn down with death by a thousand cuts. However, even a wounded animal could still fight back.

And fight back he did.

Despite his hands being bound, Cassius did not rely on some of the more conservative spells in his repertoire. He wanted to make a point that even beaten and bruised, Ravenclaws fought to the bitter end. What better way to do that than with a blasting curse?

As the blasting curse hit its marks, Cassius felt content even as the blindfold concealed his vision. If that was his last hurrah, he would sleep soundly.

• 10% of the damage done by a "dark" spell is done to a target that was successfully hit by a dark spell every round for the duration of the thread. This is considered to be "bleeding" and can be countered with the bandaging charm.

• On a critical success with a "dark" spell, a second target (only if defined by the caster before this has been rolled) can be targeted, if no secondary target is declared then nothing happens.

He didn't have to look at Jack to know what face he was giving. Though the boy didn't look back, he scratched the back of his neck as the burning blaze of Jack's incredulous look was burning him. The insult was not the worse he had heard from his roomate whenever Hanako decides to do these sort of jokes. He stood up and shrugged. " If you think it's that easy, you do it", he responds gently, winking. Catching a split second of Mahl's jaw being dropped and the laughter that followed Jack's retort. Ha? Oh - thats right. She hasn't seen this side of him. Was it a blessing that she didn't have to witness the era in which he picked a victim like this on every single opponent they faced? Likely.

That was the end of their fun fun little banter. Not only did the Ravens ignore his offer, they went in a completely different direction than what Hanako anticipated given their circumstances. The main annoying thing was the distinct change on the Slytherins side. Perhaps it was because its the longest duel yet that Jack had ever stayed that it impacted Hanako more than he thought. It was best to get used to someone gone from the start than to expect them to stay longer. " Hah" He grinned, perhaps the biggest grin all day. A playful lull to his voice.

" So congrats, your team aren't as pathetic as I thought. But that's bar is quite low from someone who spaced out too long. In just the previous duel that would've gotten you in trouble, wouldn't it? But I suppose now that we're both almost done, you'd know you'd be forgiven. A nice strategy on your part if it was intentional... I forgot how much of a nerd Ravens tend to be even when they space out. Now~ I'm not one to be curious of things, but I do find myself interested in seeing how you'll get out of this, looking .... eh... like that" the playful mocking of Cassius's binded and blindfolded state. " You know... the least you could do is not be rude and ignore us. Or is it a Ravens thing to use spell slinging as the only language you guys are willing to partake with an opponent~? " ooc: reminder this is the ic character being in character. Feel free to ignore him! "

He turned to Mahl with an almost excited grin. " Sorry your preferred senior is gone, I'll do my best to fill in!. Knock knock~?".

Everything happened very, very quickly all at once. The first thing Mahlioz was focused on was their own spell, which they let out a "Oh COME on!!" for when it missed. It was only really then that they registered what Hanako had said back to Jack, which - what. Mahlioz had only very rarely witnessed flirting before but she was about 95% certain that was what this was. Were her two seniors dating?? She had to tell Ara about this, what was going on.

Speaking of Jack, Mahlioz was surprised not to hear an answer, until she turned around and yelped, "No!!" Jack was unconscious. Poor guy - it was his last Hogwarts duel ever, too. What a way to go out - man, Mahlioz was getting melancholic now. At least Edward was out now as well - time for a 2v1. This duel was genuinely insane. On top of that, Cassius cast a spell spread confringo WHILE FULGARIED which Mahlioz had to gape at yet again in awe. It was impossible to stay shocked at anything very long in this match, everything just got somehow crazier. Was Mahlioz gonna duel like that in 7th year??

Hanako didn't seem very pleased with how much the birds were ignoring him (valid). Mahlioz actually turned to check whether he was illegally casting a second spell within the same round because the burns he was giving were worthy of an incendio. "Calm down, man, I think he's suffering enough," they had to say, honestly somewhat impressed. At his next words, she frowned. "I don't have favourites- at least I don't think so? But yes, let's give Jack a reason to be proud."

The calm before a final swell.

Hands and eyes bound, there was not much the lone Raven could do but throw up a protego. Pure instincts must have guided the bird as he raised a protective barrier around himself. It shimmered into existence just in time to catch the only spell aimed Cassius' way - a flipendo from one Hanako Tone. A soft thud would be the only sound as the offensive spell dissipated into the shield. Though his spell was fruitless, Hanako could find solace in the healing reparifros from the younger snake, Mahlioz.

A match full of surprises, Gyle dared not try and guess the duelists next moves as the clock ticked down.

"Calm down, man, I think he's suffering enough,"

He sent them a playful smile that didn't reach his eyes. " Really..? Hm....... no I don't think so" his says coolly, devoid of the playfulness it was meant to have. Another window to his anger that hadn't dissipated from Mahlioz trying to calm him down. If it weren't for Mahl's calm demeanor, he might've tackled Cass and ko-ed him himself after seeing a protego protecting the blind bird. Well- maybe if Mahl enlightened his attempt at a knock knock joke, that would've helped too.

A mocking, restrained laugh escaped him. Happy thoughts..happy thoughts.. sleeveless tops... leather bound bulletpoint journals...black tea paired with any fruity flavors... and finally, he managed to breathe again.

" You wouldn't get why it's important for me to see you join your juniors in the hospital wing, do you? Oh well~ " he says in a light sickly sweet tone to Cassius

Winning regardless from the birds lack of options at this point seemed irrelevant when the one he wished was here to see a victory is instead unconscious on the hospital bed.

" Hey hey" Hanako says to Mahl, turning his head to look at them with a smile that seemed far less fake than the one earlier. " Thanks. Glad I'm likely not the only one standing long enough to taste a victory like this. Wouldn't it be more fun if Villa were here as well? What would you think she'd say if she was here hm? You think she's gonna realise she's definitely gonna miss me when I'm gone?"

Cassius was not much one for banter. He found it pointless and distracting and thus usually did not engage. He knew his duelling record and the duelling record of his team and he was proud of that. Proud of his tenure at Hogwarts. He let those results speak louder than his words.

"Protego!"

The shield charm was all he could manage in that moment as he was bound and blinded. He was not sure what happened but did feel at least one spell ricochet off the protective barrier. It was somewhat amusing that the blindfolding spell, taught in the second year, proved to be his Achilles heel. Well, some people stuck to the basics and there was nothing wrong with that, he figured. From each according to his ability. Cassius would have liked to have seen something more interesting at the very least.

A much calmer round this time. Hanako's flipendo was dissipated against Cassius' protego, and Mahlioz healed Hana. Turned out things were less chaotic when half the players were knocked out. Though speaking of Hana, the seventh year was genuinely quite a bit scarier now. Was it Jack's presence - or rather, lack of presence? Mahlioz got the feeling they'd messed something up, but they didn't know what, and- whatever, now was not the time to think about it, she could wallow in her misery later. In her bed, preferably. Gods, this was exhausting. You know what, his anger at Cassius was very valid. Why couldn't he just get knocked out and get it over with? sorry cass T-T rip

Thankfully, the reparifors did the trick. At the mention of Ara, Mahlioz grinned. "Ohhh, you're playing a dangerous game, she would never admit that." She giggled. "But honestly, I don't think you're far off from the truth. Might take a few more matches and a few more nicknames for her to realise, but... we are gonna miss you, old man." Oh, gods, that was probably the first time they had ever used a name like that - was it an insult? Oh goodness, had Mahlioz just insulted him?? Ara would be proud. ...Maybe that wasn't necessarily a good thing, in this case.

But it was true. Their team had been very dear to her, and this match - this round - was the last she'd see of it in action, maybe ever. Nope, you are not crying on the piste, get it together.

Day 1 - Morning slot

The last casts of the duel would be quiet in comparison to this duels explosive trend.

Alone, bound and blind there was not much for Cassius to do but throw up another protego. His wandless cast would succeed despite everything against him. Mahlioz would follow Cassius’ idea and cast the same spell as last time, this time spreading it to rejuvenate both standing snakes. Hanako would be the only one going for damage. Perhaps hoping to end the duel by KO rather than time. But he’d find no success. His last attempt at a spell on a Hogwarts’ piste would fail. Cassius’ protego would go unneeded.

“TIME! Victory Slytherin!” Gyle would call the match. It was easy to see who’d won. “Congrats to all, an explosive match to say the least. And congrats to our soon-to-be graduates for their final duel!” Gyle wouldn’t mention that not all of those graduates were still present. As the crowd applauded and the duelists sorted themselves Gyle would take the chance to present each duelist with a sherbert lemon for their efforts. Maybe two for the graduates.
