Damaris couldn't help but feel relievedโand somewhat surprisedโwhen she felt Damienโs hand on her shoulder. His calm manner of telling her to breathe helped her feel better and snap out of her anxious state; in truth, she hadn't even realized sheโd been breathing so shallowly.
She offered him a gentle smile as she took a deep breath, trying to steady her nerves and regain her composure. She was struck by the fact that he never once seemed to judge her for her state; he had simply stayed there, helping her through her anxiety, and she was deeply grateful for that.
"Yeah... yeah, thanks" she said softly, her breathing now much steadier.
She took a few moments to return to "normal," to compose herself and gather her thoughts so she wouldn't have another bout of nervesโat least not for the moment. She could work on her anxiety issues and her tendency to apologize so much later on.
When she noticed Damien placing the book between them so they could read together, she smiled and nodded, genuinely wanting to focus on something she loved and enjoyed.
"Yes, we can start" she said, looking at himโfeeling a bit calmer now.
"Where are you in the story?" she asked, gazing at the pages with a sense of calm, thanks to the patience he had shown her during her moment of anxiety.
"Are you still near the beginning, or are we already close to Ithaca...Odysseus?" she asked with a smile, using his middle name againโfeeling a bit more confident after what had happened and the patience he had shown her. Perhaps she might finally feel she had someone she could call "close"โor even, if he were willing and allowed it, a friend.

He just gave her a friendly smile before he started to speak again. โOh Iโm still close to the begging as this books combined like the events of Troy with The Oydessy which I find it to be much more fascinating.โ He honestly enjoyed how it added more contents for those who have never read The Oydessy it made it easier so they didnโt have to go and find the book that talked about Troy. He could honestly go on days and days about The Oydessy and all the different interpretations he has read before. He honestly was just reading this book for the fun of it as he had nothing better to do, plus he honestly did not want to use all of his art supplies trying to find something else to paint or draw, he needed to wait till he got some more supplies before starting that back up yet, plus he truly originally was going to go into his hidden room or well more so their hidden room since he shared it with a older student, to read but he supposed reading outside in a public area of the library wasnโt so terrible just meant he had to have a few conversations with many different peoples. It wasnโt like he hated talking to people, he just sometimes can became social awkward and that whatโs make him feel weird. |
