She went into the Hufflepuff common room alone, but came out with a furry ball that could only be her cat, Sylvie. The afternoon's event was somewhat surreal, she having crashed into someone else, and a possible friendship with the girl, Lucille. They had chatted, then agreed to meet out here, in the courtyard, with their cats. She couldn't wait to meet Daisy May, Lucille's cat, and couldn't wait even more to see the two cats bonding. It would be interesting, and a great way to spend her afternoon. It was a Monday, but her homework could wait. She was very nearly done with it anyway.
She arrived at the courtyard and sat on the ledge of the stone fountain. Remembering cats are not fans of the water, she hastened to find another place. A statue. Why was she always finding statues? But it would provide shade, and something to lean on.
The girl sat down and began playing with her cat, throwing random pebbles for the Siberian to catch. What luck Sylvie had arrived that afternoon, just when she needed her. Her beautiful cat need not be lonely, not when there's another girl with another cat. She didn't know if different cat breeds got along fine, but considering Cookie cook had no complaints about Sylvie and the kitchen cats getting along, or brawl fights starting, she supposed all cat breeds got along well.

Lucille walked slowly through the corridors, gingerly trying to find her way to the courtyard. Earlier today, she had bumped, quite literally, into a girl in the corridors. Maisie. They had talked, and had arranged to get their cats to meet. Lucille was a little nervous. Cats often weren't as social as dogs were, but Daisy May was certainly an exception, partly because she was a kitten and partly because she had grown up meeting an abundance of different cats. Still, Maisie had seemed quite eager to get them to meet, so Lucille assumed her cat ought to be quite friendly, too.
She finally stepped out into the fresh air and halted, eyes travelling through the courtyard until, finally, she saw a small white ball of fluff near a statue. And near that ball was the girl she had met earlier. Lucille waved, although she wasn't sure if Maisie had seen her, and made her way towards the two. As she neared, she could see that Maisie's fluffy silver cat was playful, bouncing around after some pebbles. She smiled, thinking the cat was quite similar to Daisy in that regard.
"Here's Daisy May!" Lucille announced, lifting up the cat in her arms a little. Daisy was a bit restless, eyes locked on Sylvie, clearly excited and anticipating the second Lucille let her on the floor, so she could bounce over and join the other cat. "I'm guessing this is Sylvie, then?" Lucille said as she crouched down slowly, finally sitting down with her legs crossed in front of Maisie. Gingerly, she relaxed her hold on Daisy, allowing the little cat to jump out of her arms.
Daisy was smaller compared to Sylvie, seeing as she was less than a year old, and she wasted no time in bounding up to her, her excitement evident. Daisy was clearly here to make friends.

Sylvie, having ears better than Maisie's human ones, must've heard something she hadn't, for the cat suddenly stopped and perked up her ears, abandoning focus on the few pebbles she threw at Slyvie. Maisie looked up to see Lucille, holding up Daisy May in her arms.Continuing from Collision Course into Companionship

Daisy May was smaller, and black in color, with a look of elegance Sylvie definitely did not have. She gathered the Siberian cat in her arms, not knowing how the two cats would react. She could see Sylvie eyeing Daisy May, and hoped she didn't consider the other cat as prey.
Grinning, she said, "Yup, this is Sylvie alright! You think they'll be friends?" She asked, rather anxious. She didn't want a cat brawl fight to happen, and it did happen back at home. And though not serious, it did quite some damage that led to shouting and rowing. But Daisy May seemed eager, and she couldn't observe any notions of attacking one another. Sylvie, who had been struggling for the past few minutes and pawing at her relentlessly, slipped out onto the stone flooring.
Her heart dropped, thinking Sylvie might be going to attack Daisy May, but it didn't seem the case. Sylvie, first going over to a couple of the pebbles, seemed to be finding something. Maisie thought she had forgotten there was a possible friend nearby, and wanted to resume their game of throwing stones. Having found a particularly smooth stone, she trotted over to where Lucille stood, dropped the pebbles, and looked up at Daisy May, pawing the air, as if imploring for the cat to be let out, so they could play.

Daisy May was overjoyed to meet Sylvie, excitedly sniffing the bigger cat. With her paw, she would gently tap Sylvie, inviting her to play. When Sylvie finally dropped the pebble in front of her, Daisy wasted no time hitting it like a football, and then chasing after it. She would pause and watch Sylvie, seeing what the other cat would do, tail twitching slightly in excitement.
Lucille laughed at the display. "I think the two are already friends," she said, as the two cats seemed to enjoy each others company. Content that they didn't need to worry about a fight starting, she shifted her attention to Maisie. "How long have you had Sylvie? I've had Daisy May since she was about 2 months old. We found her hiding out in the barn, trying to play with a mother cat and her kittens. The mum wasn't too happy about that, though. Then she found us, and she's never left since. A bit too social for her own good, I'll say." Lucille smiled at the irony of her statement. It was something quite a few people had said to her before. But, after all, wasn't it only natural that her closest companion would share some similarities with her?
People said owners tended to look like their pets. She observed Maisie closely, trying to see a hint of that in her, wondering if there was truth in that statement. It certainly applied to her and Daisy May, who bounced around excitedly from one place to another. As her eyes shifted between Sylvie and Maisie, she finally found what she was looking for.
Both Sylvie and Maisie shared the same kind expression, and the same striking eyes. They both had piercing blue eyes, that seemed to catch all the light around them. Lucille laughed a little, making another observation. This time, she spoke, not wanting to seem crazy laughing to herself. "Sorry, I just noticed something. It seems I'm the only one here without blue eyes. I feel a little left out." She pointed at Daisy May and, sure enough, the cat's bright blue eyes would stand out stunningly from her dark fur. It was the only part of Daisy May that wasn't pitch black, and the only way Lucille could see her in shadows.

Sylvie adored playing with Daisy May. The two were like long lost friends, already sharing a game of catch. Maisie grinned, watching the two cats-- one black and one white; one smaller and one bigger; one older and one younger playing together. They didn't seem to care about their differences, or the fact they aren't even the same kind of cat.Continuing from Collision Course into Companionship

"They are indeed friends." She agreed, looking at them fondly. Cats were very wonderful animals. "I don't know how old she was when I found her. We were in Siberia, visiting my aunt's family and I found her in a forest. But she's about two years old now. Daisy May is sociable. And so is Sylvie. They'd have a good time." She laughed. Lucille seemed a social butterfly, and so did Daisy May. They had likeness in personalities, she decided. She had only just met Lucille, so she didn't know everything about her, but through studying her, she slowly realized more and more likeness between the two of them.
Some reason, with the presence of Lucille, Maisie felt calmer. Even after being crashed into, she didn't really feel angry. There was something different about the girl. Sylvie was energetic and crazy when she was happy. She was very happy to see a new friend, and if this was back home, the cat would go bonkers. But with Daisy May, Sylvie seemed quieter and calmer. That was something else the two had in common, she noted.
Sylvie rolled a pebble over to Maisie and she caught it in one hand, rubbing her thumb over the smooth of the stone. Still analyzing the similarities between them, she was caught of guard when Lucille laughed. She was about to open her mouth to ask why, when Lucille explained. "Oh." She chuckled, eyes instinctively flickering towards the white Siberian, Daisy May and then back to Lucille. "I don't think I've ever noticed. Or put two and two together." It was fine if she didn't notice Sylvie's eyes, because she tended to forget certain details, or certain details dont register her mind when she'd been with someone for a long time. But how she didn't notice the striking blue eyes of Daisy May, she didn't know.
"Does Daisy May sleep with you at night?" The question left the girls mouth before she could think it over. Sylvie had not, for the record, spent a night at Hogwarts yet. Tonight would be the first time, and she wanted to make sure it would be okay. "Are pets allowed in dorms at night?" She added.

The two girls sat in companionable silence for a while, watching the two cats. She could feel Maisie look back and forth between her, Daisy May, and Sylvie, but she didn't mind. It was an entertaining sight, and she giggled when Daisy flopped over onto her back, pawing at Sylvie. It reminded Lucille of a ferret, the way she wriggled around.
She looked back up as Maisie explained where she got Sylvie from. The similarity in their stories touched her heart. Like Daisy, Sylvie had been lonely looking for a home. And, unlike Daisy, she came from a rougher environment. The forest, of all places! It was amazing to thinkg about the fact that the pale cat in front of her was once in the woods, hunting and fending for herself. But, then again, she could say the same thing about Daisy May. The little kitten certainly couldn't have survived in the English countryside; she loved cuddles and scratches far too much. That, and she was insistent on making friends with everyone she saw.
Maisie's next question surprised her. She looked up, a curious glimmer in her eye as she tilted her head, a little confused. "Why, of course she does," she said, not understanding the nature of the question. "She spends most of the day doing just that, too, when I'm in class. I usually find her buried in my blankets when I get back to the dorm." When Daisy mentioned pets being allowed, Lucille's brow furrowed with worry. "Well, I'm certain she is. At least, I don't think I'm breaking any rules." She looked back at Daisy, who was blissfully unaware of the serious conversation taking place above her. "Well, everyone does it. I'm sure it's alright," she assured Maisie. She was just another first year like Maisie, but she had seen her seniors with their cats in the common room.
She reached down to the little cat on her back and scratched her stomach. Most cats didn't like that, but Daisy May was little enough to be desensitized to it. And, after all, the cat just thought she was playing. Lucille looked around at the smooth stones around the courtyard, once again letting it sink in that she and her little cat had made it all the way to Hogwarts.

Maisie was slightly reassured for Lucille said pets could sleep with their owners. Come to think of it, Maisie couldn't remember seeing a designated pet area on the grounds, the countless times she'd walked the perimeter of the Great Lake. Her mother had forbade her from letting Sylvie climb on her bed at night, but somehow, even if she'd closed the door firmly, Maisie would wake up to find the cat curled like a ball of snow on the foot of her bed, sleeping, or just staring at her. Sometimes, a freshly slaughtered mouse or two lay on the wooden floorboards. Once, Sylvie had climbed onto her and her bright eyes had been bearing into her!Continuing from Collision Course into Companionship

Maisie nodded, a smile forming, "I guess you're right, if everyone does it. Do you think if the pets are left on their own devices, they'd wreck havoc together? Like if they're fed up with their owners." Her grin spread wider, thinking about it. The girl wondered what it'll be like if you're living with dorm mates who all have pets, yet you have allergies. That would be horrible. "Anyway, they're all very good bed warmers." Sylvie had come to nuzzle her, rubbing her warm and furry coat against the first-year's cool and smooth skin. It felt nice, in the shade where it was breezy, with the wind blowing just right. She couldn't stop thinking how much she'd use Sylvie's warm coat to her advantage in the cold and dark months as they came, once November rolled around.
"Sylvie needs to socialize with other feline friends." Maisie mused, looking at Lucille as she scratched Daisy's stomach. "Reckon Daisy May and Sylvie can meet up while we're at class? Hopefully they won't cause a stir." Maisie winked at Lucille, chuckling.
