𝓐s a talented student hell-bent on progressing to the heights of magic and perfection, it seemed that Arkady naturally hit a wall in his fifth and final year at Durmstrang. Many knew there was only one direction to turn if you truly wanted a challenge in Transfiguration, and he deigned to utter the word to any of his classmates for fear of failure. It was one thing having no one expect much from you, but another to have them expect total ineptitude before you've even tried. Despite being vaguely disliked by most at the Institute, his Transfiguration professor had noted his affinity for the subject and held him back at the end of their final class.

"Mr Piecyk, I am aware you will be leaving us after this summer. I’d like to wish you the best of luck in the States… It may be – more to your tastes there." He knew what that meant – liberal, pacifistic, weakened with idealism. He was amazed his professor did not realise that he as a European shared the same baseline disdain for most Americans. β€œI wonder if you’ve given much thought to pursuing Transfiguration further. You could go onto great things. If you’d like to test your skills, perhaps you might consider the... Animagus ritual over the summer months?” Her voice involuntarily quietened at the word, as if someone would be listening to burst into laughter. Ever the people pleaser – and secretly hoping his professor would approach him about it first to save him some embarrassment – Arkady accepted with thinly veiled ecstasy. His mentor hardly mirrored his excitement, but nonetheless made it her burden to guide him to the right source material, and even went to the trouble of giving him strict written instructions on what to do.

That summer happened to be simultaneously one of the most hectic of the boy’s life so far. Left houseless and earning his daily bread on his own, Arkady gave little thought to the challenge as the summer began, too occupied with finding his next bed and next job. It was on a clandestine evening that he chanced upon a strange boy around his age – one who would end up becoming a partner in crime as they ventured around Europe with nothing but the clothes on his back. By some miracle, he was also a part of this same strange other world as Arkady, privy to magic and wizarding society. As they travelled, Arkady temporarily forgot about his troubles – his estranged family, the church back home, Durmstrang and his upcoming voyage to the States. He finally felt his age once more, wandering back to those big dreams his once unoccupied mind had fancied.

He mustered the courage to speak of the Animagus ritual to Anthonie, showing him the instructions he’d kept close to his heart through every trip and youth hostel. From that point on, their trip doubled as a scavenger hunt of sorts. Finding mandrakes in the wild was a troublesome affair, especially considering what a danger they would be to unwitting muggles. Thankfully as the pair reached Krakow, they happened upon a dingy back-alley. A less than savoury brute of a man sold them mandrake leaves at an extortionate price, though Arkady figured beggars could not be choosers. Figuring the boy could use them, the merchant showed off his extensive wares of Death's-head Hawk Moths and their cocoons, with an even heftier price disguised as a discount. The boy relented and took the offer nonetheless.

The process was tedious and demanding. Unable to properly enjoy his food for fear of swallowing or chewing up the leaf, it was enough to make him consider quitting. Once or twice he choked in his sleep, having to start over again as he spat the damned thing out. At points he considered gluing the damn thing to the roof of his mouth. Eventually however he manages to keep up his streak, which consisted of regular reminders from Anton that the leaf was in fact still in his mouth. In the meantime, his next problem was acquiring dew that had never seen the sun nor been trodden on by human feet. He waited tediously for a rainy night, crouched in a muddied field not far from Munich. Arek lay in wait like a predator for a drop of rain to grace the leaf of a bush, ready to catch it in a crystal phial for safe keeping. It was not long before the deed was done and to ensure the dew remained potent, he kept it on his person at all times, hidden deep in coat pockets away from the sun for the seven days to come.

Soon the time drew near to complete the process, when Arkady had realised a gaping hole in his grand plans. He had remained divided on what his Animagus form should be. He had contemplated everything from a snake (the Biblical connotations were a little too on the nose) to a snowy barn owl (he decided he would rather not be mistaken for a carrier owl). Fearing he had messed the process up with his indecisiveness, a stray comment that had been lingering in the back of his mind suddenly resurfaced. Against his better sense he’d been mulling it over for weeks, wondering what Anton could have possibly meant when he likened Arkady to a defenseless little rabbit. It had been a throwaway comment and a harmless one at that, but that comparison had highlighted a few too many parallels within Arkady than he cared to admit. He was flighty, hypervigilant and unassuming. A nervous prey-like thing. He was a little downtrodden to hear someone he thought of as so effortlessly cool refer to him so diminutively. He tried to shake the thought and focus on something with a little more presence, like a deer or an ocelot, but nothing seemed to stick.

He begged the next full moon to grace the sky on a pristine night, and his prayers were miraculously answered. He ran out onto their hotel balcony looking up at the round glowing face above before pulling out his phial and spitting the leaf into it. Carefully he unveiled the dew that he’d been harbouring for seven long days and the chrysalis of a Death's-mask Hawk Moth, dropping them both into the elixir. Next, he plucked a single shiny ice-blonde hair from his head with a wince, adding it too to the concoction. Immediately, he searched for a peaceful place to keep it amidst their travels. In a last ditch effort, he ripped the floorboards from their places and tucked the phial away beneath the floor.

Next was the repetition of the incantation β€œAmato Animo Animato Animagus” at sunrise and sundown, every day until the next electrical storm. This part came naturally to Arkady, well-adjusted to the routine of morning and evening prayer. He never missed a single recital, always glancing at the sun as it greeted his words.

Soon it was time to complete the arduous process; admittedly he was excited to be rid of the challenge. He half-expected to fail and throw his arms in the air, accepting defeat like the good sport he’d always been. The storm did not take long to arrive, and thankfully the boys were still in the same hotel room so as to uncover the phial from its burial place. Arkady, in a fit of adrenaline, cleared their room, pushing bags, tables, chairs and beds away to make room for his transformation. With one final repetition of the spell, he downed the phial in one swig, grimacing at the wretched taste. He had no clue what would manifest given his flurrying thoughts and scattered choices. For all he knew, he could turn into a rhinoceros. With his roommate keeping a wide berth away for safety, Arkady squeezed his eyes shut, allowing himself to fall into the spell, overcome and helpless to its results.

A fucking rabbit.

You have got to be kidding me.

NAME ; Arkady Dismas Piecyk
ANIMAL ; Eastern Cottontail Rabbit ; Sylvilagus floridanus
DESCRIPTION ; Small in size ; just big enough be cradled like a baby. Though most Eastern Cottontails have a brown coat, Arkady's rabbit form is leucistic, meaning that he partially lacks pigment in his coat. As such he is almost entirely pure white, sans his distinctive marking. Unlike albinism, the loss of pigment does not affect eye colour, resulting in characteristic black eyes.
DISTINCTIVE MARKING ; He has a black spot on his throat, resembling a bowtie.

Lily Isobel McCoire was so excited when she realized that she could finally start practicing to be an animagus. She had been interested in it ever since she had learned about it in her third year classes. She had went to the headmaster, Solomon Lear and asked if he would be willing to oversee her. Thankfully, he had agreed. The first thing she had to do was put a mandrake leaf under her tongue for an entire month! When she told her brother, Colin McCoire, what she had to do he joked around saying he knew a Permanent Sticking Charm! She couldn't help but laugh at the suggestion. There was no way at all that was going to happen. A week before Lily was due to spit the leaf out, she went and collected a teaspoon of dew putting it in a phial, wrapped it in a scarf, and buried it in the trunk. She had used the summoning charm to collect the dew. She went to Lear to request a chrysalis of a deaths-head hawkmoth. By the time the lunar cycle finally ended, Lily was more then ready to spit out the leaf. She took a glass phial, went out to a clearing in the Hogwarts grounds with her brothers, Colin and Liam. Once there, she stood in the moons rays and spat the leaf out in the phial she had brought with her. They headed back up to the castle, laughing and joking around as siblings do. She then added one of her own hair and the teaspoon of dew to the glass phial, before taking it down to the potion storeroom and stored it in the back of a shelf, that looked like nobody had touched it in decades. Then she waited. And waited. And waited. For a lightning storm to show up. Every day at dawn and sunset, Lily stood with her wand over her heart and chanted, β€œAmato animo, animato, animagus.” Finally a lightning storm came after about two weeks of waiting. Lily grabbed a poncho and her wand, went down to the potions storeroom, grabbed her potion, and with a big deep breath and a prayer to not be hit by lightning, she went outside and went to a secluded spot. Colin and Liam accompanied her against her own better judgement. As the lightning cracked and the thunder rolled, and Lily prayed, she took her wand out, put it over her heart, and whispered, β€œ Amato, Animo, Animato, Animagus.” Then gulped the potion down. She shuddered as it went through her body. The taste was terrible and honestly took a lot to get it down past her throat. She opened her eyes, took a deep breath, concentrated and then turned into her animal, the fox. She was so excited that she jumped on Colin, knocking him to the ground and the two rolled over laughing as she playfully nudged him with her nose. Then, since she had done it to Colin, she jumped on Liam too until all three of them were on the ground and very wet and muddy. But it couldn't have dampened her infectious happiness at all. This was the best thing she had ever done.

How does Lily collect the dew? It specifically cannot be touched by sunlight or human feet, so how did she find that?

School had always been tough on Marietta. She was miserable at, well nearly everything taught. Only nearly though, because she wasn't remotely miserable at one subject: Care of Magical Creatures. Marietta had always adored animals, and her father working at the Ministry's Beast Division had done nothing but fuel that passion. When her third year rolled around Marietta was ecstatict begin classes. It was one of the few things she decided, she was okay with being bad at. As long as she got to be around animals, she was happy. Only for her to get nothing but straight Os on all her homework. It was like a dream come true.

That feeling she got when she realized she was in fact amazing at the subject she loved? Was nothing compared to her excitement when she realized she could become one of those creatures. She immediately started studying everything she could about animagi and how to become one. Her excitement did dim a little when she realized it was extremely rare to get a magical creature as one's animagus form- but she kept researching anyway. While it was disappointing she wouldn't get to be a magical creature, at least she had the chance to become a creature in the first place! She wasn't going to waste that opportunity.

The usually conflict avoidant Marietta was so excited that she even contacted her Head of House, Ms. Edith Alarie, to over see Marietta doing everything in the summer. An adult to guide her confirmed, Marietta began the process.

Keeping a mandrake leaf in her mouth was about as uncomfortable as she had expected. Marietta ate all sorts of things hoping that they wouldn't be affected by the leaf juices. She found that meat was the most successful. So long as she kept the leaf under her tongue, and was careful not to chew it. She also found a lovely patch of grass and kept checking on it until she was sure there was no dew on it the evening before. Then early that morning, so early it was hard to justifiably call it morning, Marietta collected the freshly formed out-of-the-sunlight dew. She stored it away, wrapped in her favorite scarf, and placed at the bottom of one of her draws that didn't get any sunlight from her cold room's little window.

Obtaining the chrysalis was the easy part, she mentioned to her dad that she wanted to be an animus and the next day he brought home one for her. Claiming he had a buddy that bred them, not only because he liked moths, but so he could provide wizards looking to become an animus with chrysalises. Marietta wasn't sure if that was true, or if her dad just didn't want her to feel bad about all the trouble he had gone to to get it. She tried not to think about it too hard.

When it came time to spit the leaf out Marietta was relieved, though getting up in the middle of the night so the leaf would come out in the moon light was no fun. After spitting the leaf out, she added the silvered teaspoon of dew, the Chrysalis, and one reddish brown hair from her head. She tucked it away in the same place she had kept the dew.

Every day Marietta leaped over to the window, hoping to see an electrical storm outside. Every time she heard so much as a drop of water hit the roof she checked. She almost forgot to say the spell a few times during dawn and dusk. But she had stuck a sticky note on her favorite tree, her magical creatures book, and her pillow to make sure she remembered. So she successfully recited "Amato Animo Animato Animagus" at Dawn and Dusk every day, with her wand point placed over her heart.

When Marietta woke up to an electrical storm she was thrilled. She had been worried that she would have to wait months before one hit. But here was an electrical storm, lightning, thunder, and everything in the summer. Marietta carefully retrieved the moon touched phial and went to a secluded area. She recited the incantation that had been burned into her mind through rote memorization, and drank.

Marietta had often imagined what kind of animal she would be. She hoped she would be something small, she had always been so much bigger than everyone else. Not that people stared or anything, the problem was that Marietta noticed it, and she didn't like it. She eventually decided that she really wanted to be a squirrel. They were small, and could climb even better than she could as a human! And how fun would that be?

Marietta took a deep breath, and slowly opened her eyes. she looked down. Only to find that she wasn't smaller, in fact she was much, much taller. She also could see two, spindly behooved legs. Curious, Marietta turned her head to try and see the rest of her body and- WHAM her face smacked into something. She snorted, shaking her head, realizing the something her face had smacked into was another limb, she moved it and looked again. She was a horse! Not what she was hoping for, but still really cool, and what her face had smacked into. Was a wing. She was a horse, with wings.

Marietta was so excited she could scream, instead she let out a loud whinny and attempted to gallop. Only to trip over her own spindly legs and go careening into the mud generated by the storm. As Marietta did her best to figure out this whole walking thing, she also though about it for a bit. When she loved something, she loved it a lot and that meant she had a rather big personality. She climbed trees, not just because it was fun, it was a way for her to get closer to the sky, to feel something akin to freedom as the wind blew in her hair. Now that she was a winged horse, she could experience the freedom of that sky in truth.

2. Animal: Abraxan
3. Description: A standard looking Abraxan. Palomino coat, white wings, green eyes, white star, cream colored hair and mane. She is only 17 hands now [68 inches] but will be 18hands [72 inches] when fully grown. Weighs in at roughly 1,900 pounds. I based weight and size off of a Clydesdale, as Abraxans are referred to as 'large winged horses' please let me know if this needs adjusted
4. Distinctive Marking: Heavy feathering, and a white blanket pattern. This is distinctive because Abraxans usually have plain coats aside from a snip, blaze or star.

Explanation: Huge because it literally states that's the size you should be using for horses. Flight because its a winged horse. Bite because a wild horse can take a pinky clean off, or even break an arm with its bite. Abraxan's are large, hearty, noble creatures, which I think these stats reflect.
