Devon sat in the changing room, already in her dress for her violin recital. The young girl held her violin in her arms, slowly adjusting its strings to maintain its sound clarity. As a nine-year-old girl, she already had experience performing at recitals and competitions for the violin and for dance. Her green eyes looked up as another girl sauntered into the room. Devon felt an uneasy feeling, and she visibly shuddered. She had known this girl, a piano player named Lily, for about a year at this point. Devon was supposed to perform with Lily.

Being ever the optimist, Devon approached Lily. At first, with her usual brand of optimism and calm. But this quickly devolved into the root issue. Lily had sprained her wrist a few hours previously. As such, they had to withdraw their joint performance. A bad outcome, indeed.

This wasn’t the only time, either.

A year later, as Devon arrived to practice dancing, she was met with a feeling of dread that made her wince. She glanced around the room, noticing that it was only just her here. What could possibly go wrong? She started the sound system to begin playing a song. After a beat, she began to gracefully dance.

When she launched into a pirouette, Devon spun on a portion of the floor that was recently waxed and immediately lost control. The energy from the pirouette caused her to fly into a bunch of boxes stored on the side of the room. Thankfully, she only sustained scratches and a hairline fracture on both her left ankle and right wrist. While not the worst outcome, it was certainly not helpful … especially for a dancer.

Even when she first started Ilvermorny, during her first flying class, Devon had a bad feeling … one filled with dread (and frankly fear, but she wouldn’t admit to that, as she always tries to maintain a brave face, especially in the face of adversity). At one point during the class, she mounted her broom and flew into the air. Higher and higher. A small thrill vibrated in her mind, seeing that she could do it. She could fly! Perhaps that bad feeling was wrong …

Her ascent slowed and eventually ended high in the air. Devon was safely in the air. And yet, she also had no idea how to get down. She tried to lean forward to guide her broom back down to Earth. Only, she leaned forward too far and flipped off her broom. She fell to the ground. Hard. And, she had to be transported to the Hospital Wing. This incident was very painful, and breathed light into her desire to learn how to fly (and now she is a broom racer!).

(i) We could have very intense feelings during a divination class, however this could happen to anyone interested in the subject. For 6th sense, we are looking for a more long term sensitivity to surroundings. I suggest describing that this sort of sharpness happened since childhood (ei, noticing things are off, or feeling the slightest shift in the air). Or that she developed this intuition through early learning of divination classes that helped developed her gut feeling that comes with 6th sense.

When he received his wand of cherry wood and fireball heartstring, Akari thought that was it. It was perfect. He could be the dueller he'd always dreamed of, fighting with power and grace. He carried it with him everywhere, not just because it was his wand-- Who just leaves their wand somewhere?-- but because it was a cherished gift. The spells he cast seemed bigger and brighter, especially the Green and Red Spark Charms. Indeed, much of one's reputation at Mahoutokoro stemmed from magical prowress.

But one evening, absorbed in the act of practicing his Incendio Duos, Akari stopped concentrating for just a moment. Halfway through another cast, he felt a searing pain over his left arm. Turns out, losing focus while wielding fire was not a good idea. He quickly batted the flames out, momentarily thankful for the mostly fireproof features of his duelling robes, but it still left a first-degree burn, red and painful. His first thought was to run it under cool water, but he didn't know the Water-Conjuring Charm. The next best thing was... bubbles, maybe? He tentatively cast "Bullarum Immortalem!" A stream of bubbles spouted from the end of his wand towards the burn. His arm stung and the bubbles... did not pop. They bounced off lightly and floated away slowly. Oh. Ow. It hadn't occurred to him that these 'immortal' bubbles would not pop at all, not even on purpose.

With a sigh and a grimace of pain, Akari thought back to the spell they had recently learned in Charms, the Bandaging Charm. At the very least, it would keep the burn protected from debris and drying out. "Ferula," he recited. He hadn't put much time into practising this spell and wasn't very confident on the wand movement, a downward movement and wave, but to his surprise, the bandage sprang into being and wrapped around his arm firmly. Akari flexed his arm curiously, astonished at how well it fit. It wasn't too loose, nor did it constrict his blood flow. Obviously, then he had to go to the hospital wing to get it treated properly, but for once in his life, he paid attention to the procedure with curiousity instead of zoning out or chatting with the other students in there. If he could perform healing spells as aptly as he could duel, it was definitely something to look into further.

In Akari's mind, being able to protect himself both during and after dangerous situations was even better than just excelling in offence. It meant taking a bit of weight off of his teammates shoulders, or helping his parents worry about him less. It meant he could survive by himself, which provided more space for him to also help others. Even his Calming Presence seemed to assist him in his newfound interest. And although his wand was crafted for brilliant firepower, it was just as well used in the aftermath. He had a lot of studying of how the body worked ahead of him, but it was more exciting than anything else.

Describe why this fits your character: [wc ; 520]

Growing up in the 'Jewel of the Pacific', Logan cut her teeth in various trades, learning how the city people earned their daily bread. Valpo was revered for its lively fishing industry, its historical markets and the bleeding spray painted murals that deck every wall. Young Logan wanted to sample it all.

While her mother would spend most of her days working odd jobs, teaching young hopefuls how to drive and waitressing to cover the difference, Logan would take herself back and forth from school. She was an entrepreneurial spirit, as young as seven years old, selling trinkets and completing homework for other kids to earn some change. As soon as the bell tore down the hallways, the girl was the first out of the door, pelting down the sloping alleys to the docks. Here, she picked a few pockets and did some more honest work helping the elderly fishermen in hauling in their catches and docking their ships to the ports. The charming young girl was a beloved face around these parts of the city, often spoiled by sweet grandmothers with fragrant pastries and cheek-pinches. Her uncles would send her off to the shops with some cash to fetch them beer as they set up games of Carioca against the sunset backdrop. Trained to stay sharp and savvy, her own intellect would rival that of her older neighbours; young Logan would march home with a shit-eating grin, pockets jingling with the merry music of loose change.

With her keen business-sense and ability to read others, Logan also picked up the ability to stand up for herself, both verbally and physically. Something of a little vigilante, the girl detested injustice. She could never fathom how one could stand by in the face of clear tyranny and cruelty, especially with the power to change things. The girl would defend her younger classmates from cliquey teenagers on bikes, demand the local cafe owner pay her mother a living wage and pick up some expert mercantile skills from her dear dock uncles. For her tenth birthday, her dear Uncle Rojas ('Mi Viejo' as she tended to call him) gifted her a punching bag, hung by a metal chain on a tree in her backyard. Along with it, her mother saved for a pair of pristine sparring gloves. The little warrior spent her afternoons wildly throwing swings at the thing with such enthusiasm, no one had the heart to tell her she was doing it all wrong. From then on, Rojas gave her a few amateur boxing lessons she certainly put to good use.

Since arriving at Castelobruxo, it was safe to say that Logan was slightly uninspired by magic. She had grown up learning to handle herself with nothing but her words and her fists. Casting spells and uttering cryptic incantations seemed like a cop-out of the highest degree. She continued to hone her skills in spite of her new living situation - disappearing into the gardens with her sparring gloves to abuse some poor unsuspecting tree. She bled red and that's all that mattered to her; she was human first and witch second.

Quiet, careful, you won't even notice she was there. That's how Miharu had always been. Her steps were graceful and quiet, almost like she doesn't want to be noticed at all and in all honesty, that's exactly what she wanted it to be. Attention wasn't what she seeks. All she wanted was some quiet time to enjoy the things that she actually loves, not the ones forced upon her. Growing up within the pureblooded Goto family and parents having tons of connection with her father being the owner of a broom making business and her mother a former professional Quidditch, it was hard for her not to garner any attention especially in those social gatherings. She was sure that each time, someone will be introduced to her whose name she will forget in just a couple of days. They were tiring and there was no merit to it. It was only something that she needed to do so she wouldn't disappoint her parents when they wanted to ‘show her off’ to their acquaintances. Embarrassing really so of course, she would want to get away, to have some time for herself.

Thanks to her quiet demeanor that had somehow helped in lowering her presence, Miharu had learned to slip away from the crowd without any trace. Careful steps, almost soundless while choosing paths that're easily missed by those without a keen eye. She uses the shadows to move along to further diminish the weak presence that she already has. It was enough for one to question if someone had just walked past them or had been sitting there or if it was just their imagination. It had become a habit whenever things started getting overwhelming. One minute she was there, and the next, gone. Luckily for them, she wasn't a stalker aside from the time when she needed an audience with their Headmaster, putting this skill into use. If she ever gave him a mini heart attack, she would probably apologize to him… eventually maybe.

Aside from that, being their team's Seeker had helped her improve her own elusiveness. Her games had given her enough insight on how important the position is in winning the games but that also meant she would be targeted by bludgers and blatches. While already skilled in evasive maneuvers, sometimes it wasn't enough. If she could also be elusive on the pitch, that would certainly help her team. To move where you wouldn't be noticed, to slip past people and utilizing blind spots. That way, she could stay in the air for a long time, just enough to catch them that victory that their team needed in every game.
Note: I have procrastinated for too long. Permission to mention their Headmaster, @Kotoka Sako was approved by his writer. That said mention is a reference to this thread.

Having grown up the child of for lack of a better word, conmen, Louca had learned the muggle slight of hand tricks early. While his parents had wizarding backgrounds, they had had to find ways to support themselves without violating the International Statute of Secrecy. They had to make their living somehow, and since the wizarding society had quickly discovered their cons, the muggle world turned into their playground.

It shouldn’t be a surprise then that cheating or finding ways to stack the deck in his favor was something that would become second nature. By the time he was old enough to attend Ilvermorny, Louca had figured out many of the same card tricks or simple scams his parents ran. But it wasn’t until his fifth year that he truly started looking into better methods of making things go his way, especially in quidditch matches. But that also meant he was caught more often at least until he managed to get the hang of things. Of course, it was easier when he was able to capitalize on the referee’s natural distractions such as someone else cheating, or a bludger hit, or even someone falling from their broom. Those were all natural distractions he had no compunctions of using, typically making sure he had several small objects hidden in his robes that he could throw at opponents or even at times use his magic to his own benefit.

Working up the nerve to hit someone with his broom, either while the referee was distracted elsewhere or by trying to depend on his charm to talk his way out of a foul took a bit longer. But he was a risktaker and that was just the next step. It wasn’t until the very end of the year that he successfully could pull off the move.

It probably helped that he had worked to portray himself as someone who had become more air-headed and less able to focus on anything but looking handsome for the ladies in the crowd, always playing up his errors as honest mistakes such as looking away for a moment to check out the crowd or to fix his robes or something else just as foolish and he accidentally tilted the wrong way, forcing his broom right into a nearby person. They didn’t have to know it was on purpose. And if his opponents knew that he was sharp and could pull off most cons, that didn’t mean the referees would believe them. That was when he would pull out the New Orleans drawl, and the innocent face. Not every referee believed him as they knew him quite well, but that just meant he leaned into it harder. While the better option was not to get caught, if he did, he would use his charm to do his best to get out of it.

The world Percy knew was one of comfort and stability. Alarm clock went off at seven, cereal and YooHoo at the breakfast table, then a pat on the head and off he went to school. He had his daily routines, his favorite video games and books, everything was familiar. It was a simple life he lived. While his father would shake his head at his phone, sighing about the luxury of an air fryer or needing a new transmission in their car, he and Corbin would lie content with their dingy old Chevrolet and their second hand Microwave. On Saturdays, he'd wake up early and sit on the window sill, baseball in hand, watching the sunrise peering over the Colorado mountains. And then he got to Ilvermorny. Where things confused him beyond measure. He was sure his existence felt the same to his wizarding compatriots. "You're a No-Maj? Do you have those.. Vacuums?" He was surprised to find he heard that one a lot.

He felt rather anxious to leave his familiar home behind. The professor that hand delivered his acceptance letter informed him there would be no technology, no typical day to day store bought items, he was shocked. Corbin and him laughed over it, saying it sounded like a prison. But even in prison they still had basic modern amenities. Upon arrival, he realized it wasn't as drastic as it seemed. He would just be without his radio, without his Air conditioner, and most heart breakingly without his baseball for all but a few months.

It was rather funny to him that his new school would have a class entirely dedicated to learning about the non magical world's history. What seemed shocking to all of his peers was just what he had the pleasure of learning in his public school's History classes. One classmate theorized that the ancient figure fabled as "George Washington" may truly have been a wizard. To Percy Todd he was just the guy on the one dollar bill.

He was disappointed in learning that students used Quills. "So... it's like we're pilgrims?" He had asked, but nobody knew what he meant when he talked about the Macy's day parade, so he dropped that topic rather quickly, too.

His world of comfy pajamas and Tv before bedtime and crayons to draw doodles with was never too far from reach, he would remind himself. Letters from home always helped him, Corbin's constant updates on Baseball scores making him joyous upon arrival. But it always reminded him that he was an outsider, a black sheep who would never truly understand what being a wizard was all about. He did enjoy his constant high marks in his History class at Ilvermorny, however. I guess it was just the perks of his terrible Muggle Condition.

Percy Todd Duplenticy was the king of the playground. That is, when he was on the playground. Whenever he would ask for the swings, people would give it to him, insisting they'd had enough play. He thought it was rather silly, and the recess supervisor would always intervene, telling Percy he needed to wait his turn and insisting the other person return to play. They'd always end up pinching his cheeks, telling him how adorable he was and dawing at his dimples.

Corbin had once told him that he was his favorite brother. "That's silly," he'd remarked, "I'm your only brother." He had responded "Yes, yes, but you're so entertaining. When you tell me it's going to be okay, I believe it. And the ice cream truck always only makes us pay for one because he said in that nasally voice- 'You are just such a Charming young man, have a second popsicle.' " He had been glad at this comment, and spent the rest of the day beaming with confidence.

When he hit second grade, a girl named Lucy Button would walk with him and his brother home from the bus stop. They laughed and chattered the whole time, bonding over their love for Pokemon. She blinked at him, clinging to every word he said. When she waved them goodbye, walking down her driveway, Corbin elbowed him in the side, teasing him in a sing songy voice. "Percy has a giiirlfriend, Percy has a giiirlfriend." Percy Todd did not find this humorous. He just thought she liked to listen, glad to have a new friend.

Percy Todd's dad only realized the special affect his son had on people when it was time for parent teacher conferences. His son was about to graduate from elementary school, hitting the end of fifth grade just before he left for wizarding school. His teacher had pushed up her glasses, nodding. "Oh Charlie, we're so sad to see this bright star leaving our school. Y'know, he's such a classroom leader. It's like- when he opens his mouth it's just the most darling thing you've ever heard. He was able to convince me to throw the class a pizza party when each student read 1- books this year, did you know that? I was going to give everyone a bookmark but he thought his classmates would love a little party- and y'know they just did!" He was noted in the yearbook as "Most Likely to be President of the United States", tied with none other than Lucy Button.

Axel was known for being a rude, arrogant boy, ever since he was little. However, this was bought on by his tutor being a little too strict on him. He would sit in his tutoring room staring out the window while his mother had tea parties with all her old school friends. Naturally, she went to Beauxbâtons, so all her friends where drop-dead gorgeous and distracted him. Then as the years of early learning go by, Axel learns to be able to ignore them. To ignore their perfectly styled hair, with sleek waves and being perfectly tied up. He easily began to ignore their overwhelming perfumes like; Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and Chanel N°5. The smells used to be so good that Axel would purposefully make sure to walk past a little too close, just so he could smell the fruity, sweet perfume. However, over time it slowly became too much and sickly for the young boy. This made him try to avoid his mother's friends at all costs. Their expensive perfumes made him want to gag and run outside for fresh air.

Then, his mother was also very close friends with a part-veela who somehow kept making Axel look at her, it was like his eyes kept snagging on her hair, her eyes or that perfect top. It was so weird, no matter how hard he tried he just kept looking back at her. He was constantly teased about it by his father to the point Axel would make an effort to look away when that friend came over. It was difficult but he wasn't going to give in. Luckily, that friend of his mother's came over often, so he had plenty of time to practice not looking at her. He would have time to practice almost every other day! He started to notice the pull to look at her, despite being part-veela, was becoming less and less with each of her visits. He felt a small sense of accomplishment just as he wouldn't be staring at his mum's friend. He then starts to notice that whenever his mother's friends come over, their appearance seems to be less and less of a noticeable thing. He kind of felt bad, especially as he knew that ladies often put hours into getting ready and glamming themselves up. But then again, it allowed him to focus on the more important things like schoolwork or any other normal teenage boy things.

Chuki always had a knack for knowing when something was wrong. But lately it appeared her senses were kicking in harder than usual. Perhaps the issue lies in paranoia. Whatever it was, it likely saved her tribe from yet another invasion.

One night, men broke into the tribe.

Chuki knew the tribe was made up of strong women, and the strongest would be on guard duty. It's an honor bestowed by the chiefess herself. But that night, a warm night during Chuki's return from school, the guard women fell ill. Their night-time meal ended up laced with something unknown. A trick, the chiefess announced during the investigation.

That same night, the 'weaker' women had to take guard, their senses not as keen as their gravely ill sisters. Chuki, much to her own surprise, was counted as one of them. Perhaps the chiefess figured she'd test Chuki's skills. Chuki kept a strong stance the entire night, keeping her eyes out for the reeds that wrapped around the village. Even with her partial blindness, she wouldn't let her lack of sight fail her tribe.

Then, she saw them. Men with painted faces, an attempt to camouflage to their surroundings. Chuki recognized the differences to the reeds immediately. The fireflies were disturbed, their light turning dark upon the movement before returning. Chuki let out a shout, rushing to beat a drum and the village immediately went into action. A battle was assured, but the ambush was rejected. Chuki wasn't even allowed to fight, even after arguing in the midst of it; instead, she was told to secure the younglings and keep guard. The battle was harder than anticipated, for the men weren't just common muggles, carrying wands of their own.

But still, thanks to Chuki's eyes, she was able to save the lives of her fellow sisters, aunts, and mother. Even with one man still allowed to live abet to only tell the reason for the invasion, the chiefess could not figure it out, nor who took to poisoning the food of the guards. Thankfully, injuries were low, all the women trained to some degree of combat should the situation ever come dire.

Once the 'stronger' women were back to good health, Chuki was promoted into their ranks until she returned to school. She was also allowed to check their food being made beforehand, doing careful testing of smell and appearance alone before risking the taste test. The chiefess increased the guards after, aware now that danger is closer than ever, and likely one of the villagers had sought to betray the family she joined. Chuki took her new mission seriously as the investigation continued.

To Chuki's own despair, she'd end up catching the betrayer herself, attempting once more to leave the tribe open to attack. A woman in the dark, attempting to open a back gate and leave it available for intruders to enter. It was easy to catch. The sound of the gate being wiggled open, and the shadowy movement that even torch light could not hide. Chuki only needed to make an alarming noise, and the tribe was once again in fighting mode. No men this time. Perhaps they took off or planned a later heist.

The discussion was harsh, even making Chuki feel a sense of grief as she had to account to the chiefess of what she bared witness to. The betrayer was caught, and her punishment was severe. Chuki learned of the reason for her betrayal. Men sought to cause harm to the village, setting up an outpost far out with vicious intent to destroy what was built. The woman was married to one of these men for the act of 'purity', and due to her attempted escape from him, he was angered. He threatened her with harm to her child, unfortunately not yet one with the tribe. It appears they were a nomadic tribe of magic users of their own.

The reason was valid, but the actions were still inexcusable. She was punished with imprisonment, a less harsh sentence, thanks to the damages not being severe. As far as Chuki was aware, the chiefess sent out a specific group of women afterwards, and they eventually came back with a child. The men would no longer be a problem, according to them. As Chuki grew older, she began to have an idea that some things must be done with violence.

This made her all the more in sync with her instincts, keeping an eye on the reeds all the same. If it meant her tribe continued to be safe, then so be it.

As if it were a sign, Chuki would catch the familiar one-eyed cheetah that roamed around the tribe in the reeds at night. She caught a hare of her own, taking it to her nearby den. A smile came across Chuki's face. A hunter by birthright must also be prepared to protect her own.

Kira has always made people uneasy. The opposite of her siblings’ easy charm and happy nature, she always stood out. The black cat of the family, she had to work twice as hard to earn the approval of family friends and distant relations.

She didn’t see the point of small talk or polite conversations. When people talked to each other for the sake of talking. No, Kira would rather not talk at all. Of course, the high born society would never allow for such a thing. Hence, when in public, she put up a mask of friendliness and satisfaction but nothing ever seemed enough to hide that there was something unsettling underneath it.

She’d wasn’t usually mean or be rude to someone out loud, unless they deserved it, but she was honest and straightforward about their flaws or areas of improvement. Some value this trait but most would rather deny it. Her at times cold nature is also due to her family.

Although her father spoiled her with gifts, they were rarely what she actually wished for and wanted, more often being things that he believed she would or should enjoy. He supported her fervently during her sports, some times even too much as it bordered into her life at home. If she wasn’t studying or training, she was wasting time. His dedication to her future was his way of loving her, a love based on success.

Her mother didn’t even pretend to like her very much. She’d only wanted a boy and when she gave birth to twins, well, she preferred Kira’s brother. As a result, her interactions with Kira were rather limited and, more often than not, they were to tell her off for doing this or not doing that, often placing her public status and reputation over Kira’s enjoyment. The lack of connection worth her parents led her to be able to find comfort and joy on her own or with her siblings, not needing anyone else. This led Kira to be dismissive of friendships and similar relationships with people. She didn’t need them therefore she needn’t have them.

She grew up quite isolated from other children, both wizard and muggle. Her homeschooling meant she was surrounded by family most of them time instead of others her age. When she was forced to by circumstance of required social gatherings, she would actively try to avoid them or find one person to stay with.

Some might just call her presence unsettling, others may go as far as to call it terrible.

Rina grew up with a foot in both worlds, but perhaps the more important thing to understand was that she held a healthy disdain for the magical side.

Magic never equated to ‘whimsy’ for her. It was a harbinger of boring old traditions, lost money and a father she called cabrón1 rather than papá. Horacio wasn’t the type of guy who would raise any kid with a proper education of their origins even if he’d been a Muggle, but his children out of wedlock had gotten him practically disowned. Rina saw magic through his eyes. It was something lazy, like a charm used to set the hob aflame. It was something dangerous, something that, when handled recklessly (as it was by her father), could have disastrous consequences. And it took, and it took, and it took.

Rina had seen pictures of her father in his youth. Dark brown eyes, wrinkles at the corners, smile lines, lots of freckles. Looking at him now, one could hardly tell it was the same man. No longer allowed to roam the halls of a grand rural manor, he was relegated to a small flat in Cádiz that he hardly cared to clean. It was not magic that kept the flat functional, that kept food in their bellies. It was normal, mundane talking. Normal, mundane work.

Rina hated Horacio’s flat, anyway. She wasn’t allowed to play her guitar there, so she spent most of her time in Cádiz outside. She cycled. She played football. She watched TV with her friends. She internalised the understanding that magic would not bring you the satisfying riffs of an electric guitar, nor the bright LEDs of a TV set, nor the screams of joy in the streets when Spain won the copa mundial2. Those moments – though Muggle, though impossible with the use of a wand and an incantation – were far more magical than anything Horacio could have taught her.

Plus, she’d gone so long thinking the magical genes had skipped over her. She was a normal kid. Sure, she was a bit hyperactive, and, yes, she was homeschooled by her mamá, but that was all she’d ever known. She’d never even imagined she might have to dress herself in robes instead of baggy ripped jeans and graphic tees. Even after a year at Beauxbâtons, where they spoke French instead of Spanish, Rina felt even more out of place because she hadn’t grown quite used to the feeling of a wand in her hands that were better shaped for anything else. She found herself yearning for her bicycle, for her friends, for Mario Kart on the Wii, for the music on her phone. She missed the satisfying distortion of her electric guitar, since the soft, warm strumming on the acoustics she’d found in France just wasn’t the same.

Despite her wonderful, fun, slightly-cooky brother being magic, despite his presence helping, Rina couldn’t help but remember that magic took, and it took, and it took.

Even a year in, she didn’t want to be magical. Perhaps that was what happened when one was conditioned for the mundane.
