For all of castelo's benefits, one of it's major win over all other schools was it's rich flora and fauna. It was specially one of the school's original traits that had attracted the boy towards the school in in the first place. For all he knew, he could've as easily gone either to Ilvermorny, being an american citizen and all that.

or He could've taken his business to Beauxbaton. But the moment Arno had found out about the beasts residing in Castelo, he'd set his sights on them. Perhaps it was this familiarity with the residents of Castelo that despite their shocking entry, Arno managed to hold his ground in the arena. Even when the same couldn't be said for the other members of his team barring that one boy Ivan or something.

Fortune had favoured the bold and despite Arno not really focusing on the game, partly from the wave of nostalgia he'd been hit with and partly with the current tumulus nature of his own personal life. The strife present between mother and her offspring hadn't vanished like he'd hoped. Going by her letters, it'd only become worse, but they weren't as bad as the continued presence of these stupid monkeys.

Arno groaned to himself "when will they leave?"

If Adeline hadn't been worried sick (and frankly a bit pissed), Robin's ability to just vanish into thin air might have been a little amusing. This is the exact situation she had just been on about ... did the Marie girl ever listen? Addie hadn't taken it too terribly seriously when Robin darted from her side, but when the girl failed to make it back to her promptly, the Ravenclaw's heart sank. "God dammit." Adeline's nervous hand fought the urge to tremble as it wiped the sweat from her forehead. "Robin?Seriously. It isn't funny anymore... Come out!" She paced, and paced, and paced. Many moments passed: still no Robin. The rest of her group was growing so far from her that if she didn't leave soon, she would surely be lost. As Addie joined her team, all she could do was hope that her friend would return unharmed.

Addie continued on through the thick of the jungle reluctantly, jogging a bit to catch up with the other members of team River Dolphin, her friend's whereabouts eating at her insides. As a small silver lining for Addie and the rest of the crowd, nothing was out of the ordinary on their path. This also meant that there had been no flag present. Shit. No Robin, no action, and no flag. This was actually the worst "game" yet.

As the game began, it quickly evolved into chaos—which is not something the Finnish girl liked one bit.

Hailing from Scandinavia, Kikki had never seen a monkey. She had never shown an interest in animals, due to their messiness, their clumsiness, and just generally their inferiority. Of course, she’d read of monkeys before, and seen an illustration of them occasionally. However, that did not prepare her for the chaotic, mischievous, barbaric creatures that would descend upon them mid-game, simply with the intention to cause as much harm as possible. Talvikki had been, quite understandably, taken aback with their sudden appearance in her space. Unfortunately, her alarm was a weakness, one that the diabolic monkeys quickly capitalized on. With her grip loosened, the wand fell into their grasp, leaving the Durmstrangian chasing the demonic entities that had captured her wand.

As she moved through the forest, curses filled her mind as she fought through vines and trees, along with simply difficult terrain. Why must she suffer so? At last, she and Liliya cornered the abominable beasts. After a moment of thought, as they seemed to taunt them, Talvikki made the decision to climb the tree after them. This was after, of course, she selected a rock to carry along with her during the climb, simply as threatening material. After some bargaining, the wicked animals released their hostages, leaving Kikki to climb down from the tree successful, albeit incredibly angry.

Perhaps she didn’t use the stone on the monkeys.

But she would certainly use her wand on their enemies.

Her anger was just fuel to the fire.

The game began in just a few seconds, and yet, Stelle felt as though a gaze was fixed upon them—not necessarily from the creatures of the forest, but something more intense. The moment the director gave the signal, the group, which had been walking together just moments before, began to disperse with surprising speed, as if each had heard a different call emanating from the very heart of the forest. For a moment, she managed to turn her head.

"Pam...!" Her voice barely managed to cut through the rustling of the vegetation before the distance began to swallow her friend. She felt a slight pang of guilt for having separated so soon. After all, Pam had been the reason she was there, on a different continent, in a jungle that seemed to grow and change with every step. However, the game had just begun, and everyone seemed to be moving with such purpose that stopping would have meant being left behind. She took a deep breath; the air was different from that of Scotland, warmer, easier to breathe.

Thousands of droplets hung suspended in the air like tiny crystals, forming small rainbows that appeared and disappeared with the wind. Stelle gazed at the landscape with the same wonder a child feels discovering a new place for the first time. She only regained her focus when she heard Luuk's warning about the snakes.

"Yeah… I wouldn't eat anything from here… although they look good," she said softly, glancing around, and continued forward carefully, trying not to slip on the wet stones. She braced a hand against a tree trunk for balance as she discreetly observed her surroundings. If she had to hide a flag, she probably would have chosen a spot that seemed too awkward to check. Not the prettiest place, but one that everyone would overlook out of sheer prudence. Her eyes scanned the enormous roots, the cracks between the rocks, and the vegetation near the river, trying to spot anything out of place. Then she looked up at Luuk, raising her voice slightly to overcome the roar of the waterfall.

“Where would you hide it? In a hard-to-reach place… or somewhere so obvious that no one would believe it could actually be there?” While waiting for her answer, she continued walking alongside the group. The jungle was too beautiful to be careless, and Stelle had the feeling that she had only just revealed the first of its surprises.

Staying behind in their home base, Ivan had fixated on forming a trap, his intense knowledge on such accredited to a book he had read years ago as a child, often doing such activities with his father and twin brother, Melor, who had been pulled out of Durmstrang this year. The respite provided in South America had soothed the young boy, left behind with a few others who could not construct a sentence in English, fortunately his mother tongue serving as enough to play translator if need be.

Whilst finishing up the trap, small monkeys had began their reign of terror, his other teammates having their wands taken away in a matter of seconds.

"I told you to keep your wands close." He gritted in Russian, namely towards one younger teammate whom he had seen on campus, their time spent standing around and opting to jest rather than do anything of use almost irritating the boy. Though, he chose to be useful and less spiteful for once, dubbing it down to the unfamiliar environment, creatures they had never seen before in person that to the Drunstrang students, only existed in textbooks.

"Come here once you’ve finished retrieving your wand, then I propose we resume our course of action." Ivan affirmed in Russian, taking a leadership role he never knew he was capable of.

As her teammates gathered, several things happened in quick succession. A few Durmstrang students she was not as familiar with — they were a grade below her — spoke out, while she leaned closer to the comfort of familiarity in the form of Arno. After reassuring Valeriy and offering them a translation into Russian to the best of her ability (for some words she too did not catch) the game was officially beginning.

Liliya found herself binding with the Finnish girl, and perhaps they would exchange a few words of introduction or at least acknowledgement. Only just when they formed their duo, did monkeys leap out from the trees above, snatching away the wands of the two girls and taunting them to retrieve them. Gritting her teeth, Liliya stood up on her tiptoes in an attempt to reach the devilish creatures, yet found that her short stature made her efforts futile.

Leaving her with no other option but to climb if she really wanted her wand, she flung some choice words at the monkeys before considering her strategy. She just hoped that this rainforest school would return it at the end of the game. Did she have insurance on it?

Claire with relief accepted the tie from the warm green-eyed person who passed it to her. She remembered to say "Thank you," in English. She usually remembered to speak in English when around strangers that the circumstance deemed wouldn't know French. She only forgot when she was excited or distracted. Luckily she remembered in time.
Claire wrapped it around her hair and began entering the jungle further when a little monkey swooped down and grabbed her wand and ran up a tree! Her first reaction was to say a few minor curse words in French, but she stopped herself. Just because no one likely understood what she was saying didn't mean it was okay to curse. She really needed to nip that habit in the bud. What if she someday forgot and cursed in front of someone who understood her native language. Claire blushed just thinking of it!
From sounds nearby it seemed that this same fate had happened to some other of her teammates. She tried to coax the monkey down in English, because maybe it would understand a little better. "Come on little..." she trailed off thinking of the word for "monkey" in English. Claire forgot and substituted a different word than the one she had in mind. "one. Please give me back my wand. I need it for the game," Coaxing it was no good. All the monkey did was yell and throw her wand to it's friend. Claire sighed. If she really wanted it back she would have to climb. Claire really didn't want too, though.

Anxiously navigating the rainforest with no maps or anything of the sort, it is given that one's mind will go haywire and indescribably erratic; thoughts of death, of gore, and creatures from Uncanny Valley pop, especially, in Aurelia Valentine's imaginative mind. Her head snaps from left to right, swivelling up and down, digesting her surroundings goggle-eyed and the pupils dilating to the extremes. Of course, before stepping in the treacherous path of the Amazon Rainforest, the young badger took the burden of picking up and skimming a few books about aforementioned location. Horrors were not remarked; there is nothing repulsive to take note of in her palms and folded parchments in her pocket.

Thankfully, an attack from wild and feral animals is a supposition the young Valentine is mentally preparing herself for. The first rustle of the trees and branches; then, animal sounds echo thereafter — the sounds totally warped into something beastly, enough to bring chaos and disarray to one's already panicked state of mind. Monkeys. Aurelia reacted at the sight of the bunch of them like a 13-year old would—release a shrilly scream and cast whatever comes to mind, whether it be stored in her arsenal or perhaps have read a description of it in her last study session.

Something to be grateful about? The said stupid monkeys snatch her black walnut wand before she can burn and obliterate the Amazon Rainforest down, their grins extending ear to ear. Horrific.

CICTF River Dolphin vs. Arapaima
Liliya translates some of the foreign headmaster’s speech for Valeriy, and they feel a deep sense of gratitude that they have someone that would do that for them. It’s a small thing, but it’s meaningful to them. They hope they can convey some of that with the look they give their friend, head dipping slightly in appreciation as they smile faintly. Liliya and some others get a start on moving zones immediately, but Valeriy checks on the rest of their teammates first.

The hair tie Valeriy offers is taken gratefully. It eases them to see the relief on the unfamiliar girl’s face, causing their own smile to widen further. "Thank you," the girl says. The shapes of the sounds feel different to those Valeriy is used to, but they know these words now, thankfully. If the girl says anything else in English, it’s unlikely that Valeriy would be able to follow it, but this is basic enough for them to remember from the little they’ve learned from the language. {You’re welcome,} Valeriy responds in Russian Sign Language.

The girl begins heading off and Valeriy looks around before starting to follow after her. They don’t get far, though, before a group of monkeys bring them to a halt. Valeriy is so taken aback by the unusual sight and so delighted at the opportunity to encounter them that whatever internal guard they have lowers. Unfortunately for them, the monkeys have no problem taking advantage of that, snatching the wands of Valeriy and several of their other teammates before anyone has time to react. They stare at the monkey that’s stolen their wand, shocked but kind of in awe.

Carefully, they begin to approach, wondering what the best strategy is to get their wand back — though the monkey is so cute that a part of them wants to just let it keep it. Do they really need their wand more than it does? They conclude, disappointedly, that the answer is probably indeed yes, and they spend longer than they’d like to admit trying to regain possession of the wand.

"I told you to keep your wands close," Valeriy hears spoken in quiet, angry-sounding Russian nearby. They try to ignore the sinking feeling that they get from making their teammate disappointed in them, and they shrink in on themself slightly. "Come here once you’ve finished retrieving your wand, then I propose we resume our course of action." They follow the instructions obediently, coming to the boy’s side as soon as they can. A mix of emotion churns inside them, different colours swirling in their irises to mirror it.

This event is part of the Castelobruxo International Capture the Flag event
26TH OF JUNE, 2026 IN THE JUNGLE ARENA
MODERATION — ROUND TWO.
Stakes rose as the two teams closed in on each other. Santiago watched, fully engaged, as the players mixed in zone two and three. Some ran straight ahead without notice, meanwhile others would find themselves face to face with an enemy. Besides from the threat of their opponents, none of the zones were spared from the harsh nature of the jungle, either. Back in zone one, @Tatiana Contraire was left behind even as the mist had passed. Without any of her teammates to run to her aide, the girl was exposed to the Iara's grasp. Perhaps the Iara would spare her, he thought, rather optimistically. As a part-veela, they shared some common ground. Waiting until the last possible moment before intervening, and seeing no sign that Tatiana was coming to her senses, Santiago notified staff to step in before Tatiana could drown while attempting to join the Iara in the river.

Poor @Liliya Starkova, who had been fussing over her wand insurance during the last monkey attack, would regain her possession of her wand for the following round. These monkeys were nothing if not relentless, though, as they decided to follow them to zone two, where Liliya was once again robbed of her wand. The same monkey who had terrorized her, recognized by the spotted tail, threw the piece of wood into the shallow lagoon to fetch. Fortunately, the water temperature would be the least of her concern. @Arno Dorian, whom Santiago had considered slightly more capable than the rest, proved to be just as easily overpowered once his guard was lowered. He too had to enter the lagoon to retrieve his wand after another monkey had stolen it.

The River Dolphins managed the thieving monkeys with varying success, though, at least all of them remained in possession of their wands. Feeling the heat from the competition, @Adeline Spinks would attempt to build a trap, but the slippery rocks and unstable surroundings would make her attempt futile. Seeing her enemies bathing just a few meters away could have distracted anyone. Who would have guessed water would make trap-building substantially more difficult? If he had been in there, he would have focused on other things; alas, it was not his strategy put into practice. The River Dolphins would not leave entirely empty-handed, however, as @Stelle Mims searched the area for any signs of the flag, only to find absolutely none.

An anaconda lurked in zone three, where an even mix of dolphins and arapaimas treaded through the terrain. Santiago knew firsthand that it was easy to get lost in this part of the arena. The unreliability of the rainforest was quickly proved when one of his own, @Luuk Tjin-A-Wing, quickly lost sight of @Evangeline Fleetwood and @Mirada Johnson, coming upon an unexpected meeting with @Aurelia Valentine from the arapaimas.

Before either of them could come to a stand-off between opponents, the anaconda lunged from behind a thick root, its jaws snapping shut around Luuk's leg. The bite was not venomous, as the Castelobruxo student would know, but the backward-slanted teeth possessed a powerful grip meant to keep prey from escaping. When Aurelia attempted to help, or perhaps tried to save her own skin, the anaconda's attention switched. The huge snake's heavy body shifted through the undergrowth, winding around the nearest source of movement before either could properly react. What had begun as an attack on one quickly became a struggle for both, the snake’s immense coils trapping them together beneath its weight.

At least they had each other, until hopefully a nearby teammate came to the rescue.

If the nearby River Dolphins or @Valeriy Viktorovna Reznikov wouldn't find them, perhaps @Talvikki Tähti would. At the rate she was searching the area for the flag, fueled by the anger of having her wand stolen and subsequently having to climb a tree, she would leave no root or creek unexplored. Unfortunately for the team, the flag was not hidden in zone three, as she would soon discover.

Lastly, in zone four, @Aurora Coleman still showed no signs of giving a damn about the outcome. The girl hadn't even bothered to get her wand back from to monkeys, so really, it came to no surprise when she failed to identify the threat in the waterways. The Iara would have tried to drown her, too, probably succeeded, if @Ivan Baskakova hadn't alarmed a warning. Aurora was safe, but her apparent disinterest did little to change the situation, considering she had not planned on assisting the team either. Useless, he thought, shaking his head.

The otherwise stale air was brightened when @Claire Ducasse bantered with Ivan, coaxing a hint of a smile on the boy's tough facade.

HOW TO PLAY

The game ends when either team successfully retrieved the other teams flag to their base. Team River Dolphin will be starting the game in Zone 1 and Team Arapaima will be in Zone 4 at the opposite end of the arena. There will be at most 10 rounds, each requiring a post of 200+ words. Please make sure you include your character's stats in your post.

During the first round only, each team must state which zone their flag is hidden in to the thread moderator. You may chose to hide the flag in any of the 4 zones. The flag remains in that zone unless successfully discovered or moved through gameplay mechanics. Do not reveal in game where the flag is located.

Each round, everyone in the team must make at least one action from the Capture the Flag actions list, unless they are unable to act due to a status effect or restriction. These actions are zone dependent. The team scores points by making successful flag actions or interceptive actions towards a flag carrier. Please note that players may only move between adjacent zones and cannot skip zones while travelling.

At the conclusion of each round, the zone state map will be updated to reflect all player locations. Players may only target characters who are in the same zone as them at the end of the previous round. If a target moves out of the zone during the following movement phase, the action automatically fails, with the exception of Flag Intercept and non-magical support actions that include a chase mechanic. When performing these actions, the player automatically follows the target into the destination zone as part of the interaction.

If the action fails while chasing, the pursuing player is left behind in the original zone while the target successfully gains distance.

Rules regarding roll resolution, action priority, and other game mechanics can be found HERE.

At least one member of the team must owl the entire teams' action list to @Santiago Peralta before the posting deadline.
