It was after a couple minutes of unstopped running when Robin realized that the Headmaster wasn't where he originally was. The boy frantically looked around for signs of the unmissable man, but unless he's invisible, he's not anywhere near the site. Robin's head pounded with the blood loss, his vision blurring and motion slowing by the second. Still, he kept running. This time towards the castle since the one in charge was not around to give him direct orders. Towards the castle would certainly not be wrong in any way, it'd be a miracle if he reaches the infirmary, but at least he might be able to get part way.

Robin didn't look back at his partner. He did at least stop and tell her to run at some point, that's probably better than just taking off. The boy didn't take a very good look at Andrea before he dashed off, he didn't know where she was hurt, but was quite certain she was attacked. Robin's self-preserving instincts shone bright as he focused on keeping himself alive back there. Not even an inquiry about her wellbeing.

Unsurprisingly to himself, Robin didn't feel bad at all. By bad, he refers to the common emotion people experience named "guilt" when they feel a responsibility for someone else's misfortune or continued pain. Robin's priorities are clear: stay alive. No distraction can stop him from saving himself—

A scream.

Screams haven't been uncommon during this chaotic situation, but this particular scream was somewhat familiar. Not that he ever heard her scream, but . . .

Robin slowed down, eventually stopped in his tracks. He turned around towards the gut-wrenching sound and stared, ever-expressionless, at the screaming girl with a horridly twisted arm. Her screams of pain stabbed at his wavering indifference like a thousand needles. Each subtle as individuals, but eventually building up into something leveling a Grim Reaper's scythe.

Shite.

The boy never lifted his hand from his gaping wound, but his legs did stop moving after his brain uncharacteristically opened itself to the idea of "not abandoning her". Not exactly just "her", but his friend. Speaking of friends, where's Noah? And is there anyone else he knows that are here? Corrine didn't seem like someone to be in detention, but Mikaela didn't either. Yet she's here, twitching on the ground like she's about to literally die.

Maybe a flashback before his own death, or just an intrusive thought—Robin remembered their first meeting. Why he decided to "befriend her", if one can call recommending and borrowing books that. He had just experienced a mind-bending experiment, two other friends being awkward towards each other, and the constant pressure of "doing what normal people should do", among other minor inconveniences. He didn't know Mikaela that well then, he might not know her that well now, but he felt right away that she wasn't someone who'd be weirded out by him being "not normal". She'd become a comforting presence to him, and of course study partner with helpful insights.

To make his feelings align with his general character more, he has use for her being alive.

To be so bold as to suggest he has genuine care for someone, to the degree that he'd give up his head start on escaping to help that someone and possibly bleed out and die in the process—well, you'll see a motivation different than having "use" for her.

I don't want her to die. No, I . . . "want" her to live.

As efficient as Robin is, he can recognize a change of heart when it first manifests. He starts picking up pace and ran towards Mikaela, crouching down as he arrives by her side.

"Are you—no of course you're not alright. Shite." His pace is fast but his tone somewhat flat, a bit out of place, maybe, if one didn't know that the boy's in too much shock to react strongly, and that anything past his default energy level would probably kill him outright.

"I apologize in advance, but I don't know any healing spells and didn't think t0 bring potions." Robin wasted no time as he searched the surroundings for a piece of wood with no visible infestations on it, took off his tie, and tied the wood onto Mikaela's broken arm, "I don't have any jackets, it's a miracle I decided to wear my shirt and tie on working pants. I just wanted to look more proper to be seen as a good student who made one tiny mistake to end up here. Anyways, I can't make a sling so you'll have to hold your bad arm in place with your good one."

Robin looked ahead to see the spider that likely attacked Mikaela not too far away, then looked back down at her, turned his back to her, and took a deep breath before bracing himself for the large-area physical contact that is unfortunately very much necessary for both their survivals.

"If you can, lean on my back and I'll try to pick you up." Robin said without too much confidence. He isn't strong at all, and he's practically bleeding to death himself. But at least he could run a few steps before sensing his own collapse and put her down safely.

Hopefully, anyway.

Ebony's voice broke through Colin's desperate urge to charge forward! "Colin?" He'd ignored her the first time. Their games and chatter had fallen away, morphed into something more serious. He listened more closely. “I fear reporting it to him is no longer an option,” she said. Ebony's voice sounded flat. Not the joyful ring of moments before. It wasn't fear. Not quite. But it got Colin to focus on the girl. Not that he'd hadn't focused on the girl before, but --- he shook his head.

"Wait."

No longer and option!? Colin's eyes instantly snapped to attention on Ebony. Well, that wasn't hard to do! Ebony was really very pretty; but that wasn't what got Colin's attention at the moment. He stared at her intently. He studied every slightest movement of her eyes, her expression, her body. His gaze followed where hers was heading. Over towards where Head Master Lear was ---

Colin blinked.

His lips formed a perfect O of confusion.

--- over towards where Head Master Lear was no longer actually sitting in a chair. The chair was overturned. The funny fruit thing he had been drinking out of earlier was cast aside, as were the smoked spectacles. The earth was torn open at the spot. Could. It wasn't possible was it? Head Master Lear. Was he --- dead!? Just. Gone . . .

He turned quickly towards the other side of the clearing where most of the kids had gotten off to. His mind was filled with the confused jumble. Apparently he and Ebony had missed quite as lot of drama! The usual Hogwarts school event background of screams and spells slinging this way and that came into sharper focus. Ebony's gaze pointed out the acromantulas. First years were screaming trying to get away from them. Well, most of them anyway. A couple appear to have been trampled!

And then there were the fires off in the distance. Colin, standing on the site of some previous year's forest fire, wondered softly: "Why can't Hogwarts students be more careful with fire magic? It's all fun and games until your shirt's burnt to a crisp, Ebony, that I can tell you!"

Colin's nose wrinkled. He made his choice. So long as the uninjured first years were drawing the acromantulas away from the injured, someone else could tend to them. And the fires, well, Prat, Archer, Silas, and the others could manage that. No, there was something. Something that no one else really knew about. Colin did.

His eyes focused on Ebony again. Would she help him? He'd have to risk it. He reached out and grabbed Ebony by the hand and all but dragged her along like an excited hound on the scent! "Ebony! Come on! We've got to do something!!" As they ran along the edge of the clearing, the words just tumbled out of Colin's mouth! "It's the mushrooms, Eb! I'm sure of it! Can't ye smell them lass? Like rotting meat!"

Colin turned suddenly, dragging his classmate with him! He paused. The wind shifted a bit, bringing the scent more strongly. "This way! Only it wasn't just the mushrooms, lass! Twas never just the mushrooms! By the way," he paused to take a quick breath; "don't eat the mushrooms, unless ye don't mind barfing for two whole days! We had to clear them out of the grounds a couple years ago, remember? I mean. They didn't taste all that bad, but . . ."

Colin turned again and fixed on the scent. He drew his wand as they charged forward! "And then there was that explosion over in Hogsmeade. Twas the mushrooms there, too! And something else. Something far worse than just mushrooms. And then Toilet Boy had to go and bung up the toilets in Slytherin House with mushrooms! It's the Darkest Night, Ebony! That beautiful midnight black dream! It makes ye fly higher than a broom and fills yer mind and body with delightful visions! It --- Ebony --- whatever I do, don't let me drink a drop of it! I don't care if ye have to knock me out! That horrible potion, it-it was --- THERE!!" he called to Ebony, his eyes alight with excitement! "Yer wand Ebony!" Colin never got to tell Ebony that he'd been addicted to the stuff for over a year!

He ran up to where two kids were messing around with a stone cairn. The intoxicating aroma of black mist . . . Almost, Colin fell for it. “I love our lovely bond, but we should continue bonding alive, right? We're not close enough to die together yet, Noxley,” one of them said. He glared at the younger boys as they turned and ran from the scene. Colin poked his wand into the small pile of broken glass shards. He breathed in deep. "Mmm. Can't ye smell that lassie!? GRR! At least they didn't drink any of it! Come on! There's more!"

Colin turned, keeping an eye on the acromantulas and the fires and the screaming children. He was reckless, no doubt, but one thing that many kids thought --- wrongly --- was that Colin McCoire was stupid. That he was not. He wasn't about to get himself eaten by some ruddy great overgrown attercop! He had to find the rest of the Darkest Night! And there it was, just ahead.

Two more kids.

First year Slytherins.

Richard de Montmorency and Skylar Astor. Purebloods. Richard cast a flipendo at one of the acromantulas. Colin held his wand firmly, one eye on Richard, the other on the spiders. The spell he would cast depended on the two first years' response to his demand. "They've got no idea what this stuff is or what it does to ye," he murmured to Ebony.

"OI!" he shouted to his two housemates. His heart pounded and his breathing was rapid from the excitement. "I know what you two have!" he growled. His eyes widened in a penetrating stare. He wasn't questioning. His nose had brought him straight to the source. He aimed his wand first at Richard, then Skylar. He licked his teeth. This was the moment of truth. Would Colin steal the potion for himself? The temptation was unexpectedly great and he desperately wished Emily and AngelFyre were here to restrain him from drinking every bottle the pair had in hiding.

No.

Colin only had Ebony at his side, and she probably didn't know much more about this stuff than he told her as they ran. "Headmaster Lear is --- dead! Gone! Ebony saw him get swallowed into the ground!" Colin jerked his head towards where the abandoned chair and sunglasses lay still near the tortured earth. He nudged the broken vial with his toe. His tone was harsh: "I know ye've got more. Both of ye. I can smell on ye. Give it me. All of it. I need ---"

Colin paused. His face contorted for just a moment.

The voices in his head exulted, seeing their unlooked for victory at hand! Steal it! Drink it! Savour it and come back to us! You need us!

This was no longer a game of fighting the Liche King. This was real. The Liche King had simply become whoever was behind all this. And Colin needed to stand up and fight against that whoever, just as earnestly as he'd played at opposing the Liche King and all his undead fighters! Colin clenched his fist tightly. His eyes softened, pleading with the two first years. He didn't want to hurt them. But, he would if he needed to. "WE need to destroy it. Destroy it all! Before it destroys you two! Or anyone else..."

That backfired tremendously. Who could've guessed setting fire in a biome filled with forests and grass and greenery all around would really lead to an uncontrolled fire that would soon begin to engulf it's very source. Stupidity truly had no limit beyond one's own capabilities and much to his benefit, Prat was anything if not capable to be the arrow of his own doom. As the flames reached and engulfed him, Prat felt hot.

Not like looking in a mirror and admiring god's creation, but pancake on butter hot. Things were beginning to burn and he'd much rather they didn't.

In a matter of few seconds, the whole of grounds had descended into chaos and Prat really didn't know better. All he knew was to be book smart, look pretty and act in his usual non chalance way of life. Of course, by virtue of being a little on fire threw a wrench in his plans as the first idea that came to his mind was to stop, drop and roll. But he'd rather not ruin his clothes with the mud and soil and all that terrible color. Instead the boy opted for a much more refined option with an Extinguo.

Reyna sighed. Perhaps it was the early morning, or maybe it was her complete lack of focus due to the eerie sensation she had. Or maybe, more likely, it was her grief that lingered like a weight on her shoulder. Whatever it was, it had caused her to completely mess up one of the easiest spells from her first year. How had she failed at casting the levitation charm?
She really didn't know. But that did not matter now. The two of them had a strategy. And as long as Reyna could move the branches into the correct place, whether with a spell or with manual labor, they would be fine.
But suddenly her intuition proved more useful than she could have ever anticipated.
The fire which had previously been tiny, now roared to life, a thousand times worse than before, and was creeping closer and closer to them. Thick smoke choked the air, causing her vision to go hazy. This was what she had predicted, but no one ever listened. Reyna groaned, pinching her nose attempting to get in the last few breaths of fresh air. She couldn't afford to inhale too much smoke.
Some might call her crazy for being so calm in the fire, but after surviving countless duels, broomraces, fires, and fights in balls, it was just another normal day for her.
At least it was normal until she heard a voice.
Isabeau. Where was she? Had she gotten hurt? Or worse, had something gotten her? Visions and nightmares of what could have happened flitted through her brain faster and faster. She had no time to waste
"I'm coming!" Reyna shouted, her voice competing with the roar of the flames. "What happened? Where are you?"
The smoke made it impossible to see, making her vision ten times worse than normal. However, she eventually caught sight of locks of brown hair on a tiny frame. Isabeau. There she was tightly bound in a thick spider web, binding her in place to the ground.
Shit. Reyna clawed at the layers of silk with her hands but the web was too thick.
"This isn't going to work!" Reyna exclaimed, coughing the smoke out now. It was to much for her lungs. She hadn't run away from the fire; she had run straight into the heart of it. They were running out of time. They both needed to get out. Panic flared once again, but she shoved it down, scanning her brain for any spell she could possibly use. Fire wouldn't work. But what about a severing charm? There was no harm in trying it.
"I'm going to try a spell okay?" Reyna asked Isabeau, "Let's hope this works!"
Reyna raised her wand and aimed directly at the thick webbing. She yelled, "Diffindo!".
Reyna needed Isabeau freed now. Her own head was spinning and she could feel her world starting to tilt. If they didn't leave immediately, they wouldn't leave at all.
This detention was becoming one of the worst events ever. Was this always what detentions were like? Or something that just happened when you stuck a bunch of troublemakers together? And where was the Headmaster to stop all of this?
If there was anything Reyna had learned today, it was that her instinct and feelings were always right. That eerie feeling she had been having, it was right. She should have warned them to get as far away as they could, but it was too late now.
Now she had one priority: get Isabeau out and alive.

Archer Duncan’s sin was that not only was he a martyr burning in the raging flames of hell known as incendio trio, but that he was an influencer starting a chain reaction of fellow pyromaniacs. He had been adamant and unapologetic in his warnings to Silas, and should have readily anticipated the following of Prat. Even the passerby caught in their bullets of fire, an innocent younger year, would not quite be spared. Yet still, somehow, he heard the raging roar of all voice all too familiar, casting the same spell that had landed him in the predicament of trauma and heat.

He decided the refined methods of spell casting would be his friend. Aiming his wand at the bodies and only the bodies — for he had no intention for his hard won casting of the upperclassman’s spell to go to waste, Archer would attempt to extinguish the flames on his own body and spreading it towards his younger friend Silas with a trusty ‘extinguo’.

He stood still as a burning pyre, waiting for the spell to take on its effect. An unmoving beacon of light, briefly he fell into his own grandiosity, and became a raging sun of flames before they could have died out.

Was it worth it?

Action: spell spreading extinguo onto himself and Silas

Note; as this thread is not consistent with my values with gen ai I will be leaving it. I will expand on this post at some point with a more detailed description of his suppressed response to the trauma of fire and watching people he care about engulfed by it. Archer will be leaving this thread after this post, I trust Prat and Silas to godmod this in a responsible way if they wish to write about it.

I'm not dying. That's something new.

My ribs still hurt. Breathing was still hard. I still didn't feel my arm at all. But I was, somehow, still alive.

Sky. I have to go with my sister. I have to protect her, I need her with me, here, safe.

That thought didn't stay long in my head a few seconds later, because I recognized a very familiar face between the smoke.

What the hell was Robin Lockett doing in detention?

But that wasn't the question here. Robin was bleeding, and bleeding bad. Like, two seconds away from passing out. And, honestly, I wasn't in the mood for someone to die on me.

I didn't hear much from what he was saying. From what I noticed, he seemed nervous. I don't blame him. Trying to help someone while you are bleeding out is not an universal experience. Besides, I'm sure my own face must be a poem now.

And why did he suddenly care so much about what he was wearing? That was, literally, the last of our problems.

One of my therapists once told me that shock responses may vary depending on the person. Not everyone reacts the same. I agree.

My body moved the second he offered picking me up. More specifically, my mouth moved.

"No, wait, what are you doing? Have you lost your mind? Did you look at yourself? I don't know if you noticed it already, but you're bleeding." And, of course, my first instinct was to scold him, because I can't be a normal person and say thank you inmediately.

Somehow, I managed to sit up, still holding one arm with the other, and make my way to a nearby tree.

"Come here. We're staying. You can barely even move right now, let alone carry us both to the castle."

Maybe I was a bit mad. Maybe I was being mean. But I had no idea where my best friend was now, and I was not willing to lose another friend just because of his own stubbornness.

Chaos. Fire was everywhere and huge spiders were running about. And that woke me up real good. Dido ran away and I turned around and ran after her away from the chaos. I looked over at Lear. Shouldn’t he be helping. Damn that pineapple drink. The students were taking care of the fire but no one was taking care of the spiders. I almost froze out of shock. I quickly then fumbled for my wand that was in my hoodie pocket. Ok I admit spiders scared me a bit. Quite a bit actually. But that wasn’t going to stop me. Think of a spell…Quick! I urged myself. ”Uh…Jaculor!” I said while running towards Dido faster. I was fast really fast for some at my height. I looked around and saw a very on fire Angel Dayes and a very helpful Mikalea Hendricks helping some Ravenclaw with a broken arm. I was feeling quite no make that VERY overstimulated. How early was it? 7 am? This couldn’t be happening. I wanted to get out of there but I’d obviously get in more trouble. I bit my lip decided a bunch. Then I looked at Dido who still was close to the fire. I ran back over to her. ”Dido! Get over here you’re going to get burned!”

Marshal’s shock at the revelation he’d just received was met by an altogether-too-casual response from Winnie. Prancing joyfully to Evelynn’s side, the girl acted as though their sisterhood should have been terribly obvious.
“We’re only half sisters,” she said, “but I think we look so similar! Just look at us!”
Well, yes, now that he did look at them side by side with quite exactly that frame of mind, they did bear resemblances that were hard to deny. And he wanted to wholeheartedly — deny them, that is. For whatever reason, their shared genes, half-sliced or otherwise, presented a hard pill for him to swallow.
”How long?” he asked idiotically, the words escaping before his mind completed their structure. How long had they been sisters? A trivia for the ages, Einstein. He tried to right the ship of stupidity before it set sail with his reputation. ”I mean… have you always known?”

The elongating moment of mental collapse was only exacerbated by a snide quip from one Nabi Park. The comment was a rather tactless callback to the previous time the two of them had crossed paths. Why, he wondered, did this smug underclassman appear only to prod at his heightened emotions? At least this time she lacked a physical stick with which to do so.
”Can it, you,” he said simply, a point of one finger ensuring the message found its target.

As if his response to the obvious bait had evoked some kind of karmic debt in the universe, screams immediately caught on the air, drawing his attention to the commotion as students scattered before something large. Something familiar.
“Acromantula.” The single word from Eve mimicked the one that snaked its way through his mind, and his blood turned cold. He returned her brief glance, grim recognition passing between them. The simple exchange of understanding could only be shared by two people who had seen death’s ugly face. Some saw it with their brothers and sisters in war. The two of them? In the forest at their school’s doorstep — multiple times.
What was once more? And why not add some fire to the mix?
”Oh good,” was his only response to her comment as they eyed the rising smoke.

“They need help,” Eve said, and Marshal nodded agreement.
”And who better to provide it?” The remark was not without its sarcasm, though he’d accepted the fact that they, as senior students, would genuinely be among the better candidates. And the headmaster? A quick survey revealed Lear’s presence to be suddenly lacking, further strengthening his earlier musings that the armored wizard may not, in fact, be a real person. Or perhaps this was his way of letting go of the reigns, allowing them all to learn by experience. No one liked a helicopter headmaster, did they?

Evelynn went straight into crisis management mode, proving why she’d toted a bag to a gathering of this sort when she pulled her Silver Arrow from its depths, like a street magician pulling a comically large object from a comparatively small container. Marshal’s brow lifted a touch when she handed the prized vehicle to Nabi, though his surprise was short lived. Emergencies had a tendency to rearrange priorities.
”I’d take good care of that broom if I were you,” he said to Nabi, even as he slid his wand from a sheathe strapped to his bare forearm and began backing away. Normally it would be hidden beneath the long sleeves of a hoodie or school robes, but the prospect of labor in the sun had drawn him to boast muscled arms with a tank top today. ”You don’t exactly have a good history with wooden objects.” Leaving the younger girl to decipher the comment, the sixth year spun on a heel and fell in step with Eve, whose own wand was raised.
Hearing the incantation she muttered, he deduced that she aimed to incapacitate the giant acromantula. He would take a turn at the flames, then.

Targeting the air above where the smoke seemed to originate, Marshal inferred a different sort of magic. ”Metelojinx.”
The intent, of course, was to conjure weeping clouds to douse the fire and its surrounding area. It couldn’t eat what wasn’t dry — at least, not without extra effort.

Her partner was not at all responsive, and Lindsey sighed a little, turning to focus on her own work. Her spell had taken effect, it seemed, and chocolate brown eyes intently fixed on the broken ward, trying to figure out its previous existence. "Broken by magic..." She mumbled, mostly to herself, as she doubted if the younger girl was listening, or if she was still around. It wasn't normal. Odd, even, for there were traces of violence and brutality. Lindsey was not a stranger who stumbled upon the Hogwarts grounds only yesterday, and she considered herself an adequate, hardworking student. Why hadn't she heard the slightest rumour of this part of history for once during her past seven years? Why hadn't staff or students paid attention to this? Again, her head was filled with questions that she could not figure out. Hogwarts was just full of mysteries.

For a moment she was zoning out, completely missing the chaos ensuing around her. She leaned down and eventually knelt before the scarred ward, left hand slowly raising and carefully touching it. Delicate fingers lingered on the rough surface of the stone, attempting to feel it through her own flesh. Tracing along the fractures, Lindsey's eyes keenly observed them. Everything felt strange. Evidence of a previous fire, seemingly new ward for such an ancient school like Hogwarts, ward broken by force...she squeezed her eyes shut. The crowd around was screaming and yelling, and it sounded like spells were flying. Her head was buzzing. No, she couldn't focus. She couldn't solve them.

The sudden dizziness was overwhelming, and for once she wanted to go home. Not like the Hufflepuff Common Room, but home. While she would be leaving Hogwarts in less than a month and she would never see it again (at least from a student's perspective), Lindsey had the urge to drop her tools and hop on the train back home right now, tucking herself into the soft little bed she had back in their family estate in York. It was hilarious how she hated that place when she was in her second year, and now she was desperately stuck by nostalgia and hoping to return to it. Memories and attitudes were continuously washed by time just like how waves lapped against the shore, she thought, and Lindsey herself was no exception. And of course, Hogwarts. There must have been a time when these wards were in perfect condition, but obviously she wasn't going to witness it.

Lindsey sighed and stood up, picking up her tools. Resuming her work, she continued to clean up the surroundings, spacing out as she did the work.

Anger.

That was all Rosie felt as she began the long trek back from where she and Lauren had ended up in the Forest. Anger, flowing through her veins, turning her blood cold and her heart quick.

With zero bit of the happy, friendly, bubbly girl left in her, she had nothing nice to think about. Nothing nice to say. Nothing to say at all, actually, unless she felt like speaking to the trees. Because she had left Lauren in the Forest, finally done.

Just…just done. Done with trying, done with fighting, done with being positive, done with being the one who stayed. She was done, and had been for a while, and had finally allowed herself to see that. To feel that. To let that part of her, the part that had the most common sense, take over.

Because there was no common sense in her friendship with Lauren. Nothing that was logical about putting herself in danger for a girl who was too worried about her own petty revenge to care about anything but that.

"You know, if you're the only one that cares, is it even really a friendship? No!" she said, finally unable to tolerate the silence surrounding her, or at least the silence created by her head. None of the expected ambient sounds of the forest could reach her, because she was too absorbed in what had just happened.

Silence had always made the girl outrageously uncomfortable. Because when things were silent, things were awkward. And tense. And overall just uncomfortable and unpleasant. She was always the person to fill the silence, by saying something, no matter how stupid, just to hear a voice. She feared that if things grew silent and awkward, that they would never go back to being full and lively again.

And, Rosie knew, things between her and Lauren would never be the same again. Not after what they both had just said, revealed, and shared. Not after that.

Also, because Rosie had left, they wouldn't have the chance to talk about it. Which was good, right? I mean, why should she have stayed? She had been begging Lauren to go back, to return to the relative safety of the detention, which Lauren had ignored. Pushed her further, in fact, into the danger of the Forbidden Forest that Rosie was so obviously opposed to exploring. And she had given Lauren many, many chances to go back with her. So she definitely was in the right to return on her own.

That was, if she could even manage to make it out of the Forest. She had been stupid, yes, but not in the way that Lauren thought or had accused her of. She had been stupid to become her friend in the first place.

"I mean, even the way we met! I got attacked by a stupid Howler from her family, and I still chose to stick around! Why did I do that?" she said again, this time kicking a rock as she did so. She did instantly regret that decision, however, because now all she had was a throb in her toe to join the throb that she was trying to ignore in her heart.

Because, no matter how angry she was trying to feel in the moment, she knew that what she had said was wrong. Or, well, it was at least not kind to say, and unfair to Lauren. Even though Lauren had started it…

Regardless of any of that, who started it or not, she had still let her anger get the best of her, which was something she had never done before. Like, ever.

"But what was I meant to do?" she asked much quieter, still speaking her thoughts out loud, as if there was anyone around but the trees and Forbidden Forest creatures to hear.

Seriously though, what was she meant to do? She had asked Lauren about if she was planning a murder, which was bad, but only because Lauren's siblings had somehow magic-ed her into believing it, with a confrontation and memory charm mishap. And the second she realized it, Rosie had told Lauren the truth. Without hesitation.

Yet, when she did tell the truth, she was accused of being a liar! A stupid liar! Which was so untrue! Then Lauren had said things, she had said things, and there Rosie was. Walking through the Forbidden Forest much later than she wished to be out, like an absolute idiot, because she couldn't bear to be around the girl that she had once found so much comfort and happiness in talking to.

She sat down on a tree stump, much like she had earlier in their detention, what felt like a whole lifetime ago, to think things through. Though after five minutes and an even worse headache than before, she hadn't come to any more conclusions. All she knew was that she was wrong to say those things about Lauren, Lauren was wrong to say those things about her(however true they may have been, still not something you say), and they were both reasonably mad at each other.

But how to fix that? Rosie had never lost a friendship like this, so she had absolutely zero experience with how to make things right again, though she assumed that apologies from both sides were a huge part, with lots of talking and perhaps hugging, if things got that emotional.

The only thing that she was worried about, however, was Lauren not even wanting to make up again. Having no desire to be her friend, despite all they'd been through together, in the one year they'd known each other. Though, with all that had happened and all that they'd shared, it felt like much, much longer of a time.

Standing back up, Rosie took a moment to stretch out her legs, sore and tired from all the walking she'd done that day. Walking that she'd had to do, because of Lauren!

"No, Rosalyn, stop! Don't you dare get mad at her again! That's not how making up with a friend works! At least, I think…but still! No getting mad!" she said, stopping in her tracks yet again to shake her head in the attempt to clear away whatever lingering resentment she was holding onto. Luckily, all it took to get her away from holding a grudge was a bit of a distraction. Perhaps after this stupid detention, she would go back to her dorm, talk to Rosy, and read a book. Yeah. Great distractions! And then, her mind would be cleared up enough to have zero anger left, because anger was nowhere near her natural state of being, and she could talk to Lauren to be friends again. If she wanted to be, of course.

Then, she remembered that she was still technically in a detention. Despite all that had happened in the last little while, she'd broken the rules of not going to Hogsmeade at her age(which genuinely was somehow an accident), and she had a detention to serve. So all of her plans had to wait until she was finished with that.

Beginning to walk again, Rosie ignored the ache in her legs and her feet, continuing to move closer to the rest of the group, or what remained of them, completing the detention task. She chose not to go towards Lauren, because despite how much she wanted to make up with her, she knew that she needed some time to calm down first, and that Lauren probably did not want to see her. Like, at all. And the sad part was that Rosie couldn't even blame her for it.

Breaking the line of trees that separated the Forest that she'd travelled for way too long from where they were really supposed to be, Rosie realized that she had absolutely no idea what she was supposed to be doing at that point in the detention, if they'd moved on to doing anything different.

Therefore, she decided to just continue with the task that she'd started a while ago, hoping that she at least wouldn't seem suspicious. The last thing that she was in the mood for after this was getting another detention for ditching detention, which would be outrageously embarrassing. And frustrating. As such, she absolutely could not afford to look like she had been anywhere but right there the whole time. She began lifting branches again, though the silence around her made the task nearly unbearable, much more so than it had been earlier.

"Just focus, Rosie. Just focus, get this done, and then everything will be alright. You can talk to Lauren after you've finished the detention for both of you, so all you have to do is clear away these branches." she muttered, wiping some sweat from her brow, as she bent again to lift and move more of the branches. She wasn't quite sure what she'd do if that wasn't what she was meant to do anymore, but bluffing her way out of it was definitely a viable option.

As she continued the boring task of lifting and moving all of the branches, she heard some strange commotion coming from the Forest. Which wouldn't have alarmed her normally, knowing that there was an abundance of strange things in there. But, with Lauren in the Forbidden Forest still, she immediately assumed the worst of the sounds.

Then, her fears were confirmed as she heard a distinct scream, young and feminine and Lauren's.

Oh NO!
