Born an illegitimate child to a prominent pureblood family and a muggleborn, Eileen doesn't remember much about their birth parents. To this day, the child has never met their birth father, really only holding memories of the woman who raised them: their mother. Finding solace in a woman who raised them until her death, Eileen has nothing but fond memories of their late mother. Eileen's mother came from an extremely traditionalist pureblood family, seeing matrimony between a pureblood and a muggle as taboo; imagine their surprise to find their daughter pregnant with the child of a pureblood. Following the birth of Eileen and the disownment from her pureblood family, Eileen's mother found shelter on a rice farm in the deep provinces of the Philippines. The old woman who owned the plot of land was a god-fearing, kind woman, allowing the pair to live on her land without any sort of charge; from then on, the pair lived in a small shack that sat towards the end of the property, far away from the kind muggles they inhabited the land with.

The pair lived a quiet life for the first five years of Eileen's life, rarely ever leaving their home lest they need necessities. They rarely ever spoke with the muggles, and the muggles rarely spoke with them. Unfortunately for the pair, the house was not well built, and it was only a matter of time before disaster struck. A housefire rendered Eileen homeless and motherless. Soon after, authorities gathered Eileen and attempted to find any remaining lineage that would take the child in. It was difficult to track down the last remaining family of the small child, but they were able to do it after six long months:

"What the fuck am I supposed to do with this thing?"

Arjay Gabriel O'Campo Magpantay. The remaining relative of Eileen on their father's side—uncle by blood, father by technicality. Barely thirty with a child left on his doorstep. Suddenly, the flat fields of the Philippines countryside transitioned to tall, metal mountains and street vendors coaxing you in with sweet treats; and Eileen was shoved into a small apartment in the heart of Manila occupied by three other people. Arjay had introduced the other two people, Miko and Jacob, living in the apartment as his roommates, his forever partners, whatever that means. Eileen never truly understand the trio's dynamic, and they never really cared to. All they knew now was that, apparently, they had three fathers.

First Magic:
Reducio
Eileen had already been under the care of Arjay for several months before displaying any signs of magic. Just having turned eight, Arjay figured it should have arrived by now right? The weird magic authority people had informed him that magical children typically gained their powers by the age of seven, but Eileen had just turned eight and still nothing had happened. Maybe this was just a huge prank from the government because he forgot to pay his taxes that one time.

Speaking of the kid, where were they?

Arjay searched everywhere in their shoebox apartment for the small child, only to find they had broken in his sacred bedroom. He peeked into the room to find small hands messing with the record player that sat on a desk near his bed. He should've been mad, scolded Eileen for coming into his room without his permission and messing with his things. But the look on their face? The pure elation he'd never seen from such a grumpy child—Jesus above, he was just happy they had any sort of emotion besides anger and more anger.

"Hey, kid." he hissed out as softly as he could, somehow still startling the small child, "Wanna finally listen to some real music?" He chuckled at the look of inquisition, "Not that shit you hear when Mama- er, Lola, plays when she takes you to Church. Real music ."

Eileen still didn't say anything, not particularly inclined to speak at the moment. They frowned, as their Dad shuffled around, before pulling out a dusty record. They watched as he placed the record in, Eileen watching as it begun to spin... and music began to fill their ears! The opening notes of Dexys Midnight Runners began to play and Arjay knew the kid was hooked from the wide grin that spread across their face.

The pair danced for who-knows how long—realizing for the first time that maybe this won't be so bad; that this new dynamic won't be as miserable as they initially believed it to be. Eileen let out a small giggle, which soon transformed into a cacophony of laugh as Arjay began to spin them around the room. The pillows on his bed exploded as Eileen's laughs grew louder, surprising the two.

"Guess you are a wizard, anak."

Jasper Reyes, or Jazz for his close ones, was born on a day like another in the middle of november (november 14th), making him the youngest child in his family. He had a rather easy childhood ; his family - muggles - were neither rich or poor and they lived in a pretty sweet neighbourhood in Manila, Intramuros, a more vintage part of the city.

Jazz was really wise, and it didn’t take long tp his family to realize it. School was child’s play to him ; he was bored to death and was going too fast for the curricullum.

His older brother offered to homeschool him when he got home from school, teaching him more advanced subjects. With his parents quite busy, Jazz had to entertain himself during the day. He began exploring his neighbourhood and very quickly the rest of his city. Going on walks to explore was way more entertaining than going to school anyways.

Always equipped with a camera, he captured every pretty moment of his life. His old soul envisionned making photography his profession, living a peaceful life filled with knowledge and pictures put the magic nestled deep within him decided otherwise. Around the age of ten , when he manifested his magic for the first time, a Dukun invited him to join the school that quickly became his new family, Tenūsa.

First Magic:
Reducio
Jasper's always been a calm kid, he never looked for trouble, listened to his parents, and didn't do anything inherently wrong. He never had any reason to be angry with anyone, or at least, nothing that could trigger his inner magic. He was always able to extricate himself from pressing situations mentally, except when it came to sadness.Jazz had a tortoise from the age of five to ten. He always took great care of it, being the independent person he was, but one day, while he was playing with his neighbors, one of them (who had borrowed it) gave it back to him, dead. It had only been in their hands for a few hours.

In tears, Jazz went home. It was "just a turtle," but that turtle had been his best friend for several years. Suddenly, the glass objects placed around him began to explode, as if by magic—perhaps because it was magic. His first insistance of magic, actually.

Nationality: New Zealander
History: Aloysius Hải Bình Nguyễn Go (or, simply, Aloysius) was born on February 14th, 2014 to Jasver Arren Go and Nguyễn Linh Hà in North Shore Hospital. Aloysius has an older sister named Helena Minh Phượng Nguyễn Go, their age gap being a whopping nine years. Despite this, Aloysius only has fond memories of his sister; walking to school together in the morning and afternoon, stopping by the dairy for a sweet treat almost every day, getting the window seat on the bus every single time.

The family lives a comfortable life in Northcote, Auckland with a mostly Muggle lifestyle. With a Muggle father and Half-blood mother (who had been forced to retire early after an injury on the job as an auror), it was an easier and calmer lifestyle. But it was hard to truly ignore their magical heritage when Helena first presented, then Aloysius a few years after. It was harder when Helena disappeared for most of the year to the Isle of Divination, especially during the months where most Kiwi kids were on holiday. But it wasn’t something they resented. Aloysius enjoyed listening to stories Helena and their mother had to share of her clan life, the different kinds of magic one could wield, the plants and animals they could encounter. It made him excited for his own magical journey.

They would visit Vietnam and Philippines every other year for at least a month—two, if they could stretch it out that long with the school holidays. Two weeks for Vietnam and two weeks for Philippines. It was mostly to visit family and be spoiled by grandparents, though Helena would ‘shop ‘til [she] dropped’ quite a bit during these vacations.

When Aloysius was nine, Helena left the home. No warning. Only a small note that said she was sorry for leaving him and that she needed to go find herself. Their parents were distraught at first, and their mom even left for a few weeks. But eventually, they accepted it and continued with their lives.
First Magic: Aloysius’ first instance of magic happened at the age of eight, a little later than they expected, but at least it happened. He was walking down the staircase of their family home, a little faster than he should’ve, when his foot missed a step. Panicked, he tried to grab the railing but missed by just a centimetre. He closed his eyes, preparing for the pain. But instead of possibly injuring himself the rest of the way down, it was as if the stairs smoothed out and he slid down until he landed on the next floor, unharmed.

History:

Alexander Whitlock was born on 18 July in Auckland, New Zealand in non-magical (Muggle) family with creative occupations; the mother is a graphic designer and the father a videographer. The environment that he grew up in was highly dynamic and active as he was influenced by weekend outings in skate parks, long afternoons in the beach, and a house full of music, movies and creativity. Action and expression was something Alexander loved since childhood and he was spending hours training on skateboard tricks or mimicking the scenes in his favourite movies.

He was somewhat puzzled even in his early years as a young child. It was, however, a little, unaccountable phenomenon, but it seemed to follow Alexander everywhere. His skateboard would at times roll back to him automatically without pushing as though it could hear him. At home, the lights would be turned on and off when his moods are elevated and also when excited or angered. Having thrown his shattered phone over and scrambled about flailing his first, the first time he dared to look was to see it mend itself a few moments later and the screen light up like nothing had happened.

His parents attributed these to accident or a technical fault, bad wiring or fantasy. They considered Alexander to be a dynamic and innovative, but all-round mediocre man. The wonder with Alexander at these moments was subdued. Instead he admired them, which were larger than them and could not be reached.

These bizarre events were the forerunners of magic, which was not yet clear to him. To Alexander, they simply supplied to the feeling that the world was more active and open to possibilities than it seemed, and was awaiting him to discover it.

First Instance of Magic:

The first apparent instance of magic that occurred to Alexander took place on an eventual afternoon, when he was eight years old, at a crowded skate area in Auckland. It was hot outside and the ground was vibrating with the noise of wheels and gossip and Alexander was intrigued to get a trick he had been practicing weeks on.

He had already made it once, a pure kickflip off a low shelf, but he had slipped this time. His board came out under him, banging deafeningly on its way down the street to a group of older children. Humiliation was stinging his chest, soon becoming bitter exasperation. He did not like losing in front of others.

He sat there a moment clenching his fists and staring at his skateboard. He didn't call out for it. He didn't move.

But the board did.

It slowed. Then, impossible as it was, it turned round--at first very slightly, then with greater distinctness--wounding back over the concrete, weaving among cracks and bumps as though led on. It softly stopped in front of his feet.

Alexander froze.

He could hear the noise of the skate park fading away around him and he was looking down at the board. No one else reacted. No one pointed or shouted. Nothing had happened, it seemed to all, that was at all unusual.

In his place came a burst of excitement that made his heart beat. He took the skateboard in his hand and looked about him half hoping somebody would explain about it--but nobody.

Alexander grinned, instead of being determined to be scared.

There was a rightness in it, as though the world had been only temporarily attending to him, and giving back the answer.

He did not know how, why it should have happened, and he gently informed no one about it afterwards. However hereafter all the weird glimpses, all the curious coincidences, were a bit less incidental to each other--and a great deal more of the commencement of something unusual.

History:

Alexander Whitlock was born on 18 July in Auckland, New Zealand in a non-magical family of creative professions. His mother was a graphic designer, and his father a videographer and they made their home a place of art, music, and film. Since the early years Alexander was surrounded with creativity, and it was the way he was interested in and viewed life.

He was brought up in a very dynamic and active environment where he could be found on weekends in skate parks or the beach. These experiences led to his affection to motion and expression. However, one of his major passions was skateboarding. He devoted hours of practice on tricks and was motivated by determination and the intention to get better. With this, he loved watching films and reenacting scenes, engulfing himself in narration and acting.

Alexander was typically an average student, although he was very energetic and creative. His parents regarded him as a creative person yet not outstanding in terms of his academic endeavours and thought he would ultimately get into a work-focused and stable job. However, Alexander still had a silent interest in the world and he always thought that there could be more to learn than life.

He was raised to be independent and to express himself. It was either practicing a skateboard trick or a dramatic scene, he has learned the power of persistence and creativity. These traits were subsequently at the core of his personality as he became older.

On the whole, Alexander led an active life, was influenced by creative forces, and wanted to find out what he was interested in. The experiences he went through enabled him to become resilient and have a very different view of life, which prepares him to whatever journey he may take in future.

First Instance of Magic:

The earliest apparent instance of magic that befell Alexander was on a rather normal afternoon when Alexander was eight years old. He had been playing outside, slowly rolling his skateboard over the cracks in the sidewalk, when suddenly he heard a strange bang, bang sound coming on his back. As he turned back he stood still--his skateboard was rolling by itself, rolling slowly over the ground and no one was touching it.

He initially frowns thinking it was mere coincidence, perhaps it was a small slope that he had failed to see previously. He even laughed jokingly, and looked about him as though somebody were playing a trick upon him. But there was no one there. The road was deserted, and the atmosphere stagnant. Then suddenly, as he was about to go nearer, the board stopped.

Curiosity prevailed over him. He stretched out--and even before his hands and fingers came in touch with each other, the skateboard moved forward once more, as though he had touched it. This time Alexander experienced something different, something he could not define. There was a weird warmth in his chest, and a itching in his arms.

He did not realize it at the time, but that was a little, distracting experience which would stick with him. It was the start of something much bigger than chance.

Kanthil Kinanthi was born on Thursday, 18 November 2010 in Yogyakarta to the couple Aryamurti Sastranegara and Larasati Puspaningrum. Her name was chosen carefully by her parents. Kanthil was taken from the fragrant white magnolia flower often associated in Javanese philosophy with attachment, remembrance, and things that linger closely to the soul. Kinanthi, was taken from one of the traditional Javanese macapat, symbolized guidance and a life that was meant to be led with understanding and restraint. Together, her name carried the hope to the newborn that she would have the lifelong attachment to moral teachings and the active practice of her ancestral wisdom.

Aryamurti was a well known dukun (as in Javanese druid) that specialized in Javanese divination system as written in Primbon, while Larasati was a well-known dukun beranak (Javanese Druiditc Midwife). Both have established their popularity in their career that they got an offer to teach and deepen their knowledge in Omah Geni. They postponed their departure when they knew Larasati was pregnant with Kanthil. Once Kanthil was old enough, about three years old, the small family moved to Omah Geni.

Their departure to Omah Geni was well-prepared. They already got some help from the family of Larasati’s sister, Srikandi Wikrama. Their living place has been prepared by the family, a house that was built nearby. Srikandi’s son, Lesmana Asmaralaya, also often visited the house to play with Kanthil when he got the holiday. Even though their age gap was pretty big, they weren’t awkward to each other.

Kanthil’s education was taken very seriously by Aryamurti and Larasati. On the day, they would put the girl in the local study group to get the basic skills. At night, they would tell the girl about Javanese mythology and lore to deepen her connection to her ancestry. She was also taught about her cultural heritage and sometimes they would travel to Yogyakarta whenever they got a long holiday.

Kanthil was four years old when her first showing of magic happened. It was at night, when Aryamurti was tucking her to sleep and reading her a folklore of Roro Jonggrang and Bandung Bondowoso. Kanthil listened to the story very carefully. She wasn’t sleepy yet. When Aryamurti finished his reading, Kanthil asked him to read her more. Aryamurti didn’t have more story to tell her and this disappoint her and eventually made her angry. Her cries pushed the book in her father’s hand to fly away and hit the corner of the room. Aryamurti witnessed this event and recorded it in her developmental book as her first milestone to be a witch.

The talent happened in a far generations before Kanthil was born, even untraceable in both the paternal and maternal side. As it is known as the sign of dark wizardy, the talent often hidden from the public, even from the relatives. Only the close one know this and some of them even didn’t dare to pass the story to their newer generation, even when the Parselmouth in the family didn’t do any shady business. They were hidden and slowly forgotten, washed by the time.

And it seemed Kanthil was an unlucky generation to show his talent. On one Summer day when she was five years old, she was playing with Lesmana and his wild chickens and his old spider Crawlee. They were near the border of the woods near their house. As always, both kids would collect rocks, bugs, and sometimes, Kanthil learned how to make some playable craft from nature with Lesmana. That day was peaceful until the children decided to take a rest under a tree. Larasati has brought them a lunch box since she knew that her daughter wouldn’t want to go home for a bit even for a quick lunch. So Lesmana and Kanthil opened their lunchbox and ate the contents. To their surprise, Lesmana’s wild chicken went into a panic. They could see something moving from the bush nearby.

It was a snake.

The creature was crawling out from the bush to the snake. Lesmana immediately pulled Kanthil to get away from the place. But to his surprise, he heard Kanthil hissing. He stopped, and so did the snake. Both snake and Kanthil seemed to have some conversation. This surely confused Lesmana, but one thing he knew, his cousin was a Parselmouth. He wasn’t sure how to react to this. Even though Parselmouth's reputation was getting better each year, the name would still get the bad side from the older generation. One thing he was sure of, Lesmana should tell his uncle and aunt.

In the evening that day, Kanthil was being seated by her parents. Both showed her anxious expressions, which made a big question appear from the little girl. Before this, the parents made sure for many times to Lesmana if the boy had heard it well and Lesmana confirmed it with them.

“Sayang, were you really speaking to a snake this afternoon?” Aryamurti asked carefully.

With a big smile and some nodding, Kanthil answered, “Ya, Ayah. I told him not to eat Lesmana’s chicken. Lesmana really loves his chicken!”

“Was that the first time you spoke to a snake, Sayang?” It was Larasati’s turn now.

The little girl shook his head. “I found some snakes when I collected some rocks before. They just passed me. Some greeted me.”

Another surprise to the parents. Both of them were discussing by themselves now, leaving the girl wondering what was wrong with them that night. Aryamurti denied that he had relatives with this talent, and so did Larasati. But they also thought, perhaps it was because this talent was often hidden, so they really weren’t sure.

To give another surprise to the couple, they saw their girl hissing in a direction. Once they followed her gaze, they found a snake was already in their house, speaking with their dear daughter.

Kanthil could sense the fear from her parents. She told the snake to get out of the house. This really confirmed the couple’s doubt.

“Sayang, what you have done was… never happened in our family. We want you not to speak to the snakes in front of others in the future,” Aryamurti said.

Kanthil gave him a questionable look. She didn’t know why she must not speak to the snakes in front of other people. Larasati, who caught the confusion, added, “Some people don’t like this talent. We just want you to be safe.” Her fingers caressed her daughter’s hair softly.

Kanthil, even with more questions in her mind, could only agree. The young mind could only remember the message from her parents and would find the reason when she grew up. While the couple, they would need to see if their family would accept this fact. The fact that Kanthil had a talent that related to the Dark Descendants.

Note:
Sayang = Sweetheart in Indonesian

If special race/ability, how did they join the school?
Reducio
It was simple. She didn't show it to the school at all. It was pretty easy for her not to speak with any snakes before the big changes happened at the school. She only spoke with the snakes occasionally when she found some outside the school. She was also very careful to do it. The only one who knows her talent before the big changes were her parents and Lesmana.

History:
The Bhakdi family comes from a strong lineage of seer shamans within Thailand's rich history of magic, considered relevant but always extremely peaceful blood-line through the ages. They continue this same reputation in the 21st century, as they continue to grow the tree with lush branches across the world. One of these branches that have developed is the Buddhadasa of which Bua carries the name, although most of her paternal family including aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins live in Thailand, her immediate family resides in Australia. But her maternal side, a much shorter lineage of more harder to trace in history mainly consists of her mother, her uncle, and grandparents, of whom Bua loves dearly.

Her family enjoys the outdoors with more passion than anything else, from constant beach-going trips, drives around the lush mountains, to travelling at every given opportunity. Coming from so much rich history, their wealth is around middle-class, as they try their best to give as much as they get back to the community, and more so nature. They're generous and always willing to help other's even when no one asked for it. Bua also has an adopted sister Elsie, who she loves more than anything in the world, and they often joke of being twins due to their bond, despite looking different in appearance. Regular days of the children include homeschooling and tutoring of their necessary studies, then connecting with nature and the people around them in anyway they can, then maybe watching the sun set by the beach with their dog, Kitti. (258 w/c)

First Magic:
Bua's first instance of magic happened one late night, it was some sort of holiday or family gathering, with time you seem to forget such details. They had eaten, stomachs so full that it was almost hard to walk, but their hearts so full all that fell from their lips was joyous laughter. Whilst the adults were attending to the clearing up tables nearby, an outside picnic ordeal I suppose, the children nearby were frolicking about the fields, the sun past set and the faint smell of burnt marshmallow wafting through the cooling breeze of night. Like the stars in the sky, fireflies had begun to blink and flutter about the tall grasses in which the children played. Bua had somehow had gotten one of the lightening bugs to comfortable sit in the palms of her uncoordinated five year old hands. The insect blinked it's hazy warmth in a small melody, like a lullaby for the eyes, Bua thinking that it might be trying to communicate with her, decided to return it to the small being. She opened her mouth open and shut in a mocking rhythm, expect a light shining like a lamp out of her mouth shone out. (200 w/c)

It was difficult to track down the last remaining family of the small child, but they were able to do it after 12 long months:

Thing One and Two had left for the day, mumbling excuses about having to leave for "wurk." Another weird muggle ritual. Unfortunately, that left Eileen with the Thing Three; allegedly this was the one Eileen was related to. They saw zero resemblance. They did their best to hide from the creature, but no matter what crevice they squeezed into, he was there. Finally, Eileen shoved themself into one of the vacant rooms... a bedroom?

Their eyes widened as they scanned the room: it was like they had been transported to an alternate dimension. Strange black circles lined the wall on the far side of the room, and the walls that weren't lined with the circles were decorated with what Eileen could only describe as colorful squares. But, towards the back of the room, sat a small muggle device on the table near the bed. A... record player? Eileen remembers one of the muggles going on an in-depth explanation on the device, how its qualities could rival that of wizard invention.

"Hey, kid" a voice softly hissed out, startling the small child, "Wanna finally listen to some real music?" He chuckled at the look of inquisition, "Not that shit you hear when Mama- er, Lola, plays when she takes you to Church. Real music."

Eileen still didn't say anything, not particularly inclined to speak at the moment. They frowned, as Thing Three shuffled around, before pulling out a dusty record. They watched as he placed the record in, Eileen watching as it begun to spin... and music began to fill their ears! The opening notes of Dexys Midnight Runners began to play and, unknowingly, a wide grin spread across his face.

"Guess you are a wizard, anak (kid)."

Picking at their nails, running their fingers through a very specific strand of hair, wiggling their toes—all of which served as a reminder that the child still possessed some sort of humanity to them. But, they didn't feel human. They never had. Normal humans didn't think the way they did—and their bodies didn't morph the ways they did. Their eyes didn't randomly turn an inhuman red, nor did their hair naturally transform into a weird piss yellow.

"I don't know how you got the trait," their mother scoffed dismissively one day, the sound of a clinical glove slapping against skin resounding throughout the room, "you, out of all things."

Eileen didn't know much about their extended family, their mother rarely sharing information about her life outside of the small child; and what she **did** choose to share was usually spoken through gritted teeth and clenched fists—as if it physically pained her to talk about her family, their family. Even then, there was only one fact Eileen could recall from memory: there was a strange trait that ran prominent through their family—one that kept their hair piss yellow and altered their eyes strange colors.

And though six feet under, their mother continued to surpass the thin barrier between the living and the dead; during the day, they'd still see her figure lingering in dark corners, hear her in faint whispers over their shoulder, feel her presence engulfing them in her warm, warm embrace.

For some unexplainable reason, Eileen noticed that having dead parents was a common trope throughout media—whether it be the heroes in the comics they read or the strange muggle pictures that would appear on the "television." The creators of these characters loved to kill off their parents. Why? Why did Uncle Ben have to die? Or Bruce Wayne's parents? What creator would want to put their creation through such a thing? What about the horrors of Eileen's reality were so intriguing to them; did they find it amusing to put their characters through such torture for the sake of development? Eileen will never understand.

But, oddly enough, their own mother's ghost profusely refused to haunt theirs. To allow Eileen the comfort of seeing their mother, even if it be through their dreams. At least Bruce Wayne was afforded the luxury of seeing Thomas and Martha Wayne through his subconscious.

She just... never appears. Even when smoke has filled their lungs to a point of strangulation and fire continued to nip at their skin, she was never there to save them. Maybe they'd see a shadowy figure in the corner of the room, but despite their desperate cries for help, it never revealed itself to be the person they needed the most. And when they would wake from their nightmares, the only remnants of their mother that would remain are the straw-colored hair that sat atop their head—the same straw color she loved to magically dye her own hair.

It must be punishment. A punishment for their otherworldly condition.

Sorry about how long this is.
1. The issues are mostly in the background section.
- First, how did their mother die? As a witch, she should have had the means to deal with a house fire and escape safely. Please revise this part so that her death is more believable.
- Second, could you explain how Eileen ended up living with the Muggle side of their family? I can understand if they were initially taken in by Muggle authorities or child welfare services because her mother's wizarding family had disowned her. However, if that was the case, it raises another issue.

This suggests that Arjay's roommates are Muggles who are familiar with wizarding society and even capable of comparing Muggle technology to wizarding inventions. That doesn't seem very plausible. I can understand why Arjay himself would know about the wizarding world, since he is the sibling of a Muggle-born wizard, but it doesn't make sense for his Muggle roommates to share that knowledge.
On the other hand, if Eileen's living arrangement was made through the wizarding community, then why weren't they placed with their mother's family instead? Since Eileen is magical themselves, it seems unlikely that the wizarding authorities would simply leave them with their Muggle relatives without further explanation. Though about this part you could simply say that their mother’s family rejected this accommodation then it should be all fine. Just a suggestion!
Please clarify how these arrangements worked. It would also help if you specified the blood status of Arjay and his roommates, if Arjay is also a Muggleborn wizard, the arrangement would be more plausible.
2. Another little problem is that the FIOM age is missing. The first instance of magic must occur between the ages of 3 and 10, and cannot take place after the character has turned 11.

Freya is the only child to her mother Hallie and father Matiu Ngata. Her mother Hallie, was raised in Vasteras, Sweden and was a gifted witch who studied at the Durmstrang Institute. Upon her graduation, she became a translator having fluently practiced and learned a multitude of languages and decided to take her occupation elsewhere. She moved to a much warmer climate in the ever sunny New Zealand and began her studies of transcribing Polynesian books in a local library in the Northern Island. There, she met Matiu, a muggle-born Māori who lived with his iwi (tribe) the Ngāpuhi, a large northern tribe. A few years later, the two sealed their bond through a traditional Māori wedding and settled down inside the iwi’s borders in a small town called Kaikohe. And only a few months later the couple welcomed Freya to their life.

Although Matiu knew of his wife’s magical presence, he refused to involve her or his daughter in many tribal events or celebrations due to the fear of myths revolving around gods and goddesses drawing unwanted attention towards them. Had word gotten out that either of his kin had a semblance of magic, their lives would be flipped on their heads. Reluctantly, his participation in his iwi declined so that he could solely focus on raising his child with his wife in whatever way was best for her, whether she inherited her mother’s magical talents or not. Although his whānau (extended family) did show their support, the couple kept to themselves, raising Freya to be a well-loved child, albeit her lonely childhood.

Only a few months after Freya turned 10, she had her first instance of magic occur, and less than a week later a dukun, or mentor of sorts she had learned, visited her doorstep and explained what would be happening in the coming months. Her mother could not be more pleased to see her immerse herself in the way of the wizarding world, having heard murmurs of a school being located nearby, yet only now confirming it. Tenūsa, the Isle of Divination awaited her for schooling.

Every weekend Freya and her father travelled to Lake Ōmāpere, with it being less than a 20 minute drive from their residence. Many times, when her mother got caught up in work, they would spend daddy-daughter time pointing out the native wildlife and skipping pebbles across the water for hours on end until they got hungry or tired. But today, the winds were against them.

As soon as they were out of the car, Freya skipped off to a log, flipping it over to peer at the various beetles that scurried from view. Mud never bothered her and flipping over the log would make some birds very happy. Sorry little beetles! The girl stood back up from her crouched position and turned around to find her father, only to see him not in the spot he was previously. The winds went from a gentle gust to a fierce howl, spooking the girl as rain began to pour around her. “Pāpā?” (dad). Freya released her own howl into the wind as her hair danced around her face, frozen in place. Finding fear had taken over, she’d flop down on the turned over log, the mud squelching beneath her as she buried her head in the lap, her lilac dress damp from the downpour. The tall grass around her began to twist and turn, weaving together to form some sort of protection over the scared girl as small hiccupping sobs escaped her.

“Pēpē! I’m here!” (baby). The grass as quickly as it had woven, scattered apart and the girl looked up to see the greenery fade away to show the dark, angry sky again. Her eyes widened as her tear-streaked face got wiped by her father’s large calloused hands. “We are not telling your mother about this..” Her head tilted to the side as she got picked up and sat on his waist. Did he mean the grass or getting lost in the storm? Was she imagining things? Questions swam around in her head as she turned to look back at the grass as they got farther away. She wanted to talk to her mom when they got back, but for now, her eyelids felt heavy and she’d press her forehead to her dad’s warm side, clinging to him as small snores escaped her.
