The Japanese boy was caught up in the rainforest weather. Always living under a comfortable climate of the Seto Inland Sea, Hayato didn’t feel that bad in this temperature, but rather the humidity was bothering him. Wearing a cap, utility jacket, and a pair of cargo pants, the surfer was well-prepared. Other than Naiane, he didn’t know most of his teammates. They seemed a bit unapproachable with their designer clothes. His brows arched slightly when he saw those clothing choices. Looking down at his boots, he thought they should be alright to cover this adventure.

Why was he even here? He wasn’t exactly sure about it. Ever since he started his formal education at Mahoutokoro, his social circle and foreign traveling experiences have been increasing. Did he miss Ehime? A bit. But the adventurous aspect of these events fascinated him. The attraction came from the same vein as his interest in outdoor activities. The thrill, the danger, the unknown.

Tilting his head, the young Ichiyagi observed the crowd with his obsidian eyes. A dark-haired girl caught his eyes. There was a lively nature in her that was intriguing to him. She didn’t wear those luxurious designer clothes but the scene-fitting outfit. Admittedly, he was good at staying on his own. Yet, this time the urge of conversing with others emerged from nowhere. Perhaps he subconsciously wanted to change the situation, as he knew almost no one here.

Walking in the girl’s direction, Hayato kept his pace slow and steady. While keeping a distance, Hayato bent down halfway, hands on his knees. As a Japanese speaker, he knew very well that not everyone was fluent in English. But the easiest way to communicate in these international events was still English. With a grin, he turned his face to hers, and asked nicely, "Hello, Miss. I think we’re on the same team. I am Hayato Ichiyagi, from Mahoutokoro.” Pausing a moment and waiting for her response, he continued, “Nice to meet you. I think this will be a great game.” His British accent was odd compared to his Asian features. Though in some pronunciations of words, there was a hint of a Japanese accent beneath the surface. It was well enough to chat with others. “How do you like this international event so far?”

XXXGeneviève was too hot, and she was already cranky, and there were too many mosquitos and...

Well the list went on about things she was annoyed about.

The Beauxbatons Ballet Beauty had been asked by her friend to join her in the Jungles of Castelobruxo for the school's inaugural game of Capture the Flag and at first- the thought had greatly excited her. She adored traveling and any excuse to travel meant an excuse to go shopping! Though upon touching a delicate slippered foot onto the jungle soil. she had promptly fallen through it and ruined the beautiful outfit that she had arrived in.

Outfit number two currently consisted of a pair of loosely tied cargo pants, the color of a crocodile without the cruelty of using its leather. She wore a simple black tank top to match, had rebraided her hair and was now sporting the pout of the century. If her brothers could see the way she resembled a cranky kitten, they most definitely would have tried to throw her back in the mud, in hopes that she would "become less of a stick in one!"

Geneviève was too proud to call it quits though. She was not a quitter. What she was, was a complainer and by Merlin would everyone hear about it.

"Genie? What a surprise to see you here, I didn't know you had an interest in trekking through the mud."

The familiar voice of Camille De Varenne, her ballet buddy that she had met over the course of their summer ballet intensive broke her from her internal complaint and thus broke the dam as she unleashed the lament that had been building inside of her mind.

"Oh Camille this is the most- I can't believe- I thought we were going to be traveling! I didn't realize this was going to be a sport! I just wanted to explore the school and go shopping, but this is- oh these darned bugs!" She whined loudly and petulantly as yet another mosquito started to sap up some of the saccharine flavor out of her otherwise unblemished skin.

Naiane stepped in rhythm with her peers, remaining mindful as to where each step landed. No straying plant, no matter how small, would be crumpled under her boots. Her arms were linked arms with Logan whilst exchanging pleasantries with Thales.

Their fellow jaguars were nearby and though she already knew Hayato, the others were unfamiliar. With a quick once over, she took note of those donning expensive attire. Had she not been informed of the event, she could have easily been convinced that they were here for a Wizards Weekly fashion shoot. The lack of preparation was unsatisfactory to say the least. She simply pursed her lips and shot Thales a glance that quietly conveyed her discontent.

One boy lounged as though he were a passenger awaiting the arrival of his next cruise. He was likely in for an all expenses paid trip to the infirmary. Tragic really. The thought of tarnishing his well-cut garments did not sit well with her, but someone like him could probably afford it, so she spared no concern. Clearly he was the sort who benefited from the lavish catering forked out for the feast. After witnessing his tragic battle against a single insect, Naiane felt safe to say he was ill-suited for the brutal clash ahead.

Her gaze drifted to the girl he spoke to. Both her beauty and grace were evident, but could she help them win? Although neither appeared frail, their conversation left Naiane fearing that they would be destined for a slow descent into madness if they spent any longer out here. Perhaps she would be proven wrong. Either way, a decisive victory was their best chance.

Then the pink-and-blue flannel worn by another girl caught Naiane’s eye. At least she seemed to know what she was getting herself into. Her practical attire meant that they potentially could count on her to survive. A faint smile tugged at her lips when she noticed the spider-man graphic; something her brother was rather fond of. Though it would quickly fade once she reached the base.

Folding her arms, Naiane quietly surveyed the opposition. Before she could get a good read on them, one of her teammates began speaking. “Esme.” she repeated softly, noting how such an elegant name was befitting of such a poised girl. Though Naiane did not smile, her eyes softened upon hearing her question. Clearly she possessed some sense to recognise that she misjudged the conditions. It was an honest mistake and her admission was an admirable resolution. Someone who knew how to speak up would certainly be useful.

“The pleasure is mine. I’m Naiane,” she responded and without hesitation, she tugged one of the snagless bands off her wrist. “May I offer some assistance?” When Esme obliged, Naiane carefully wove her silken hair into a single braid before securing the end with the band. Not a single strand was out of place, though the sight was rather simple to achieve with her lustrous hair. Feeling pleased with her effort, Naiane smiled slightly.

Her attention was then drawn to the rest of the team as a discussion began. “You’re right,” Naiane nodded in agreement with Logan. “Let’s discuss strategy.”

Capture the Flag had been on the forefront of Thales’ mind since he had heard about the event.

At first, he hadn’t been interested at all. Headmaster Peralta had many ideas for the school: most of which Thales only cared for when they let him get out of the student housing and into Mata Maluca. Having a bunch of international students around, however — and having an opportunity to run around the jungle and show off? Hell yeah. That was what it was all about.

He hadn’t seen Nico yet — bummer — and though Cecilia’s name was on the sign up sheet, she wasn’t on his team — bummer again, but whatever. Either way, Thales was in high spirits, having been placed with both Naiane and Logan. In his head, this game was already a gimme: they would be far more used to the jungle than the gaggle of Europeans, and, knowing both of the girls, there would be little to no whining present. He was already pumped up, jumping slightly on the balls of his feet and rolling out his shoulders in preparation.

The opening speech was boring. Predictably so: most speeches were, and Peralta was… well, cool-ish, in that weird way that people seemed to think guys in their thirties who didn’t know how many shirt buttons to open were cool. All things considered, Thales wasn’t paying much attention to the old man, waiting for him to stop so they could get going already; the most interesting thing that had happened so far was one of their “international guests” had smacked himself in the face, prompting Thales to snicker too loud for it to be subtle. He exchanged a look with Logan, shamelessly grinning at the pull of her thumb across her jugular.

By the time headmaster Peralta had finished his blabbering and they were free to move along to their team zones, Thales felt both bored out of his mind and well-prepared. Each step he took through the thick undergrowth was made with confidence. He had busted out the fancy hiking boots that he had gotten for the trek from Vail to Aspen through the Rockies with his mãe last year, and was otherwise clad in sensible cargo pants and a plain black top.

The trench the Jaguars (appropriately cool team name, Thales decided) were standing in was a good few feet deep, with trees hanging precariously above them, providing a modicum of shade. The temperature wasn’t too bad, at least for his standards: his new teammates, however, seemed to be less than thrilled. He cast a long, lazy look around the fresh faces, taking inventory of the people who would, for the next foreseeable few hours, be his teammates.

Naiane and Logan, obviously, he already knew he could count on; stiff as Naiane could be, the witch was competent, and Logan was pretty obviously going to be helpful in the whole “kick ass and win” department. The rest…

Well, for one, the boy from earlier was staring at him. Thales raised a judgemental eyebrow as they briefly made eye contact — sure, the boy was pretty enough, with coiffed hair and a painfully styled look. Still, with his weirdly fancy trousers and a half-open shirt, he looked like bait for the bugs that he had so much disdain for earlier. When bug boy kept looking for some reason or other, Thales tilted his head. “Ei, abestado,1” he called out, that slight international school accent coming out as he switched from Portuguese to English. His brows furrowed, though his grin remained everpresent across his face. “You got a problem?

One particularly pale blonde had arrived in actual shorts and a pair of flimsy looking sandals, her hair down and sure to get snagged on bushes before they even left the zone. Another girl (also blonde, to note) had her hair up, but was immediately whining about sports and bug, looking like she was about to genuinely stomp her foot and pout— no, wait, she was already pouting. The other two had dark hair, for a change, but seemed closed off. He thought he might have recognised the girl, who was currently crouching and playing with the grass, but he didn’t bother looking any further.

Instead, Thales turned back to his classmates, rolling out his neck. He smiled, nudging — elbowing — Naiane’s side. “Esses manés acham que isso é um desfile de moda?2” He said, uncaring of if anyone else around them understood. Or heard, for that matter. His demeanor was entirely relaxed, though he quickly leaned in, straightening his posture when Logan began talking strategy.

Stomach full, face split with a wide smile, Sabrina skipped behind her group, caught in a rythem of lingering at a show of nature's beauty, then jogging after her group only to get distracted again. Repetative, predictable, jolly. Assessing her pack of predators through quick glances and glimses framed by green, she wasn't too surprised to learn most of them were unknown to her, her eyes sparkling with recognision just a few times – shallow recognision, one with no bond or core memories to speak of, only learning the faces out of necessity yesterday when they were assigned the same space to sleep in. A quick once over of the other team confirmed that, yep, it consisted of strangers too. Strangely enough, she struggled to find even vaguely familiar faces in the company she found herself in, something that hasn't happened to her in a good while. Noting so with a raise of brows, she hummed to herself in a way one would when agreeing with a point being made. For better or for worse - mostly, and shamefully the former - she didn't get much time to mull over the fact, as their guide halted, giving the mandatory 'pre-game speech'. It was brief and revealed hints of a personhood behind the voice speaking plain words – the raven would later file in away as one of the better ones she's heared. After it had ended and they were separated, reaching their given zone, she would wave at her temporary roomates in a late greeting – almost as if only now realising she had company she should acknowladge – then shifting to adress the rest, "Hi! I am Sabrina, Sabrina Lyons, Brie for short. Nice to meet you all," she would shake hands with anyone who'd be willing to take her enthusiastic offer, her palms then setting at her hips, "So, what's the plan?"

This event is part of the Castelobruxo International Capture the Flag event
26TH OF JUNE, 2026 IN THE JUNGLE ARENA
MODERATION — ROUND ONE.
After the Castelobruxo headmaster took each student and their respective teams down onto the field, Meiyu rose from the seat she rested on in the high tower nearby which granted a birds-eye view of each zone and their respective player. It had been fairly easy to identify each student, curtsey of the binoculars that had been left for her. Amidst the warmth mid-June brought, it was though the jungle had a mind of it's own, each zone contorting with different obstacles aimed to challenge the students throughout the game. Zone one became infested with Capuchin Monkeys, zone two with a heatwave, zone three with a downpour and zone four nested an anaconda that slithered towards students aiming to escape.

The group consisting of jaguars, had left two behind, @Geneviève Caussade and @Hayato Ichiyagi, both fortunately escaping the brute of the anaconda, a frown forming on Meiyu's face as she watched through her binoculars. On further inspection and to her delight, she watched as Genevieve attempted to bring some whimsy to the zone, her attempts failing horrendously whilst her partner, Hayato, also failed in his endeavours of scouting the area. It was likely the two were left behind for this very reason, both failing horridly at their attempts at keeping their base intact.

Latter jaguars manoeuvred through the terrain, meeting the harsh downpour which flooded the ground, turning the terrain unstable. All but one contorted amongst the rough soil, the sight making Meiyu lunge forward to glance at whom it had been that stood still. A pretty girl, @Naiane Tomari, Castelobruxo's own, failed to move past the mud that clung onto her shoes.

Latter group, Ocelot, left four in their zone, consisting of @Angel Dayes, @Devon Wallen, @Eden Lorenz-Alves. The trio managed to escape the Capuchin Monkeys who moved with a mind of their own, scavenging to their next victim, @Blair Annabelle Du Pont, stood aimlessly in the zone, as though hexed by something far too sinister than the jungles of Castelobruxo could even house — appearing petrified and dazed. Meiyu watched as Blair had her wand taken from her, the small creatures which she found cute, running away with Blair's wand in hand, the girl doing nothing to stop them, still standing their and wasting everyone's time. Further inspection through the binoculars show'd the girl's attempting to make conversation, not a singular person catching the joke another made, faint cricket noises surely to be heard in their vicinity.

The remaining ocelots attempted to bypass the metrics of the jungle, passing zone two in it's entirety — the jungle having a mind of it's own, woods contorting to send them back to where they came from, in their case, it took them all to zone two, a corrective measure that had worked in their favour for this round only. All but @Carina Kaede, who remained frozen in zone one. Another, @Jun Mayumi Mochizuki, contorted her body in attempts to evade the heatwave in zone two, failing in her attempts and taking a small fall after one of the rocks by the waterfall haltered her movements.

"What a useless round." Meiyu huffed, pulling her binoculars down for a moment of respite.

HOW TO PLAY

The game ends when either team successfully retrieved the other teams flag to their base. Team Ocelot will be starting the game in Zone 1 and Team Jaguar will be in Zone 4 at the opposite end of the arena. There will be at most 10 rounds, each requiring a post of 200+ words. Please make sure you include your character's stats in your post.

During the first round only, each team must state which zone their flag is hidden in to the thread moderator. You may chose to hide the flag in any of the 4 zones. The flag remains in that zone unless successfully discovered or moved through gameplay mechanics. Do not reveal in game where the flag is located.

Each round, everyone in the team must make at least one action from the Capture the Flag actions list, unless they are unable to act due to a status effect or restriction. These actions are zone dependent. The team scores points by making successful flag actions or interceptive actions towards a flag carrier. Please note that players may only move between adjacent zones and cannot skip zones while travelling.

At the conclusion of each round, the zone state map will be updated to reflect all player locations. Players may only target characters who are in the same zone as them at the end of the previous round. If a target moves out of the zone during the following movement phase, the action automatically fails, with the exception of Flag Intercept and non-magical support actions that include a chase mechanic. When performing these actions, the player automatically follows the target into the destination zone as part of the interaction.

If the action fails while chasing, the pursuing player is left behind in the original zone while the target successfully gains distance.

Rules regarding roll resolution, action priority, and other game mechanics can be found HERE.

At least one member of the team must owl the entire teams' action list to @Meiyu Xiang before the posting deadline.

The Jaguars consisted of him and Esme—by far the best dressed—a Japanese boy, two Beauxbatons girls, one of whom he knew personally, and a horde of the school's own students. For a school that had succeeded in all other aspects, the students were a far cry from the stereotypical southern hospitality. Sure, they were clearly not prepared in the slightest, but their capabilities were not determined by their clothes. Instead of giving them the benefit of the doubt, or a hello, or even a feigned smile for that matter, the South Americans exchanged mocking glances among themselves. It was not lost on Camille, seeing he was already staring at the one boy in particular, judging his trousers and visage. Just as he was about to turn his attention elsewhere, the boy tilted his head and called out something in his direction. Portuguese, by the sounds of it. In other words, unintelligible to his ears, though he understood his question, “You got a problem?”

Cargo, Camille meant to reply, if that hadn’t meant having to raise his voice, which, frankly, would have been a waste of his time. Instead, he rolled his eyes and turned away without a word, leaving the boy to speculate if he cared. Either way, Camille did not.

The fabulous duo might have arrived severely overdressed and, depending on how you saw it, underdressed for the occasion, but even if his Genie had picked slightly more appropriate attire, she had been blindsided by the whole purpose of the event, expecting shopping instead of bugs and mud. Reining himself in, Camille bit back a faint smile at the girl’s wildly optimistic expectations.

“Didn’t we all,” he mused, amusement hidden behind a dramatic, wistful sigh.

The shopping opportunities had never been the main attraction, seeing that the school was located in the middle of Amazonas rainforest with only a small village to host any recreational shopping. Of course, he hadn’t actually visited, but anything that remote would probably not stock Chanel. In Camille's case, what had intrigued him more was lounging by the beach and enjoying the sun. For whatever she lacked in critical thinking, at least Genie was beautiful and unintentionally funny. He suspected the latter without her knowledge. Ah, bless her, he thought and nodded along to her complaints, all while wearing a sympathetic smile. The topic of bugs, however, summoned the boy’s genuine frustrations into one deep scowl.

“Ugh, don’t get me started on the bugs,” and just as he’d said it, another winged demon’s loud buzzing filled his head with vibrations.

His hand moved on its own accord to attempt to swat even this one away. When he’d spritzed two generous spritzes of his favorite fragrance that morning, he’d stupidly forgotten that he’d be spending the morning in the jungle, where the insects lived and thrived. Camille smelled deliciously of jasmine and saffron, but at what cost? The local fauna seemed to agree.

When it came time to discuss strategy, Genie was quick to offer to stay by base. Normally, Camille would have been first to contest her for the slacker's position, especially since he wasn’t particularly thrilled on playing in the first place, but the location for their base couldn’t have been more cursed. The trench below reeked of something old and foul, causing his expression to tighten in visible distaste. When his so-called team suggested the upcoming strategy, Camille was more than happy to follow them into the next zone instead of staying behind with Genie and a Japanese boy. Someone had to do it, but that someone was not him. Regardless of what he might encounter in zone three, anything was better than the smell.

Charging for zone three, he would let the others move ahead. Meanwhile, he lingered behind to ensure that Esme made it across the wobbly, unstable bridges in no worse shape than before. He let her walk in front of him, giving him a clear view from behind in case she suffered any slips. The sandals had probably been the worst possible choice of footwear, but her long, blonde hair had been neatly combed back and secured into a braid. His attention lingered on the plait. That small detail made her look— even if just a fraction—better prepared for the game. Not recalling that she’d arrived that way, he gave her a puzzled once-over, as if questioning if his memory was failing him.

Once they’d crossed the bridge and were on stable ground, Camille reached out to weave the edge of the braid between his fingers, handled delicately. “When did you find the time?” he wondered, thoughtfully. “It’s lovely—very expedition-esque. Chic.” He released the braid just as delicately, letting it settle back against her spine.

Still walking behind the other strangers, Camille huffed under his breath, “Why did they put us in a team with these barbarians,” not necessarily caring if they heard, yet making a slight effort to preserve privacy. If he could trick them into doing the heavy labor by not being overtly hostile, he would gladly take his chances.

He imagined the snickers and portuguese taunts aimed at them in front of them. The clique of Castelobruxo students had quickly made it clear where their loyalties lay, their lack of sportsmanship toward anyone outside their circle becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. None of the subtle backhanded gestures at his expense had earned a reaction—at least not one they would notice—but he had filed them away for later consideration. In Camille’s estimation, that simply meant he would be an utmost bitch when the situation called for it. Arguably, those familiar with him could attest that it required no effort whatsoever; it was second nature. Save for one of them, he had decided that they were not worthy of his time. One of the quieter girls, who seemed inclined toward timidity, had even assisted Esme in braiding her hair, a gesture of surprising civility compared to the rest of them. How nice of her, he supposed.

Crossing the invisible border to the next zone, the sky released a colossal downpour that pierced the canopy and flooded the ground in the direction they were headed. Drenched within seconds, Camille frowned at the thought of his brand new red-bottom louboutin loafers being dulled by the mud and water. Having no other choice, however, and seeing that he was already soaked to his underwear, Camille treaded carefully, focusing on walking closer to the tree roots than in the middle where the water was at its deepest. His clothes were at this point fully drenched, sticking to his skin uncomfortably.

Ugh, was all he could think at the moment. He hated this. Aside from fearing some wear and tear, he maneuvered the downpour with precision that even put the domestic students to shame. Unfortunately, the one girl who had shown consideration for anyone other than herself got stuck in deep mud that hindered her from continuing. Ironic, yes, coming from him. If it hadn’t been unfortunate, that it was her out of all people, it would have been laughable, considering even Esme managed to walk through the zone in her flimsy sandals.

Palm pressing against the trunk of a nearby tree—one of multiple—he paused, glancing between the dense forest and the girl struggling against the mud, water streaming from his hair. Neither Camille nor Esme was in a position to help without risking the same fate—but they could hardly leave her there. That only left the others.

“We can’t just leave her here,” he said matter-of-factly, slightly exasperated while forcing the water trying to enter his mouth to run down his chin instead. “Are any of you self-proclaimed experts going to help or not?” His gaze specifically lingered on the boy with the big attitude problem.

Flipping his hair out of his forehead, Camille leveled him with a nonchalant stare, half a challenge. With a provocative tilt of his head, he added, “...or are those muscles only for show?”

Pity, if so.

The sight of the monkeys sent Eden scrambling out of the way. Still in the first zone, Eden brushed off the ambush as members of her team moved forward. Part of Eden wished this game had been taking place in her favorite part of the school: the Beach Club. At least then she could swim.

But no. Instead, Eden fought the blistering heat and, of all the things in the world, random evil monkeys.

“Nem penses!”¹ Eden exclaimed.

At least when she played Quidditch, she didn't have to worry about fighting random jungle creatures. Or maybe that was a new rule addition; she'd have to reread her rule book.

The game, thankfully, gave her some interesting stories to tell her family when she returned home. Her whole community had been very accepting of Eden's magic alongside her mother's, she knew they'd find this moment entertaining at least.

After that summer, Eden would be starting her 4th year at Castelobruxo which, to say the least, felt insane. Hadn't she just shown up there? Within three years, she'd be on her own and graduating. She hardly had an idea of what she intended to do after leaving school. Join her father on the seas? Work in her family's restaurant? Be a lawyer?

No matter. She had a game to win.

Devon was so focused on starting the game. She wanted to help her team win, after all. Her focus, however, meant that she didn’t immediately notice the monkeys. But, that would change immediately. They screeched and tried jumping at her, and it appeared like they were trying to aim for her wand. She jerked backward and hugged her wand against her chest.

“No, No, No,” the Horned Serpent muttered through gritted teeth. Thankfully, her efforts led the monkeys to be unsuccessful. So, she held on to her wand and would hopefully do something to help her team. Hopefully. This was very different than Broom Racing, after all.

Letting out a quiet breath of relief, Devon shook her head and tried to focus again. Her mind immediately went to laying a trap. They needed to do something to protect their flag. So, the young third-year volunteered. Her brow furrowed as she wiped sweat from her forehead. Her eyes focused on trying to tie the trap.

Yet, she didn’t know what it was. Jitters from the monkeys trying to attack her. The sweat building on her hands. The narrowed view of trying to focus. No matter what it was, she kept fumbling the trap. Nothing was working, and she failed at her attempt. Muttering, she stood back up and frowned, crossing her arms in annoyance. Regardless of her failure, she still needed to focus and stay on her toes. Her green eyes moved to her teammates around the zone, seeing how they were.

A encouraging talk seemed to do well at the moment. Though she turned her attention to make sure she can reserve her stamina, knowing herself she would go all out if the time calls to. However, three members from Ocelot decided to go to Zone 2. Hopefully they had come up with something beneficial or their flag will be taken.

"This whole thing didn't need to be as intense than it should be— this is becoming to be quite silly!"

Her mind was translucent. Many things came about and she felt a sense of unease. Capture the flag was physical and chances are they would need to use spells. Potions if desperate.

"¡Lo tenemos controlado! Se me ocurre algo!" she said with passion. She knew some Spanish but more of a novice, though her words couldn't be more clear.

Angel leaning in the barks of a dense jungle with lots of greens. There's no telling what type of plants and animals live here. The air was moist and the air wasn't helping. She's more of a cold weather person. She's used to cold. As a Dhampir she detest the heat too. Her skin was irritating her. Her eyes followed, looking for a way to move.

We got this! I'm thinking of something!
