The Wild Awaits
This event is part of the Castelobruxo International Capture the Flag event
| CV | 27TH OF JUNE, 2026 BY THE CASTELOBRUXO CAMPUS STATION
To entertain their guests, the Castelobruxo staff had arranged for a few leisurely activities once the capture the flag game day was over. For the early birds, an animal meet and greet was held on the grounds the following morning. Though the Headmaster himself had not attended the morning’s llama and alpaca feeding, a trusted student with experience and interest had been assigned to oversee the activity and put the others to work. Whether you’d been one of the students who had spent their morning feeding alpacas and llamas or not, there was an opportunity that same afternoon to take a trip away from school grounds to experience more of what the Amazonas had to offer. The Castelobruxo students were well-acquainted with the cable car system and schedule by now, coming and going as they pleased without escort. This time, however, Santiago decided to lead the group of inexperienced visitors towards the campus station and board the gondola. There were rules regarding traveling beyond school grounds, even if they were rarely reinforced beyond Vila do Mato. The jungle village was open for anyone, though, officially, only third years and above were allowed to travel further without being accompanied by staff. As long as everyone returned in proper time and didn’t get into awful trouble, no one was micro-managing anyone, and Santi wouldn’t start now, until given a reason to. The man wasn’t raising these children, merely providing guidelines to succeed. If the other Heads and professors preferred closer supervision of their students, he’d recommend they come along. Once the group departed from the station, however, they were no longer his primary concern. For those who were indeed third years and above, Santiago had brought a pile of school-issued travel admissions in case they wanted to venture further, towards Passagem dos Tucanos to play in the trees and zipline, or perhaps Enseada Azul, for those who weren’t too picky about water temperature. This region was experiencing its calendar winter, but to most, it would still be considered summer. He’d advise anyone to not attempt to travel to Platô do Céu, given that it was a trip that might take you all day if you were unfortunate with the timing of the caipora’s rearrangement. The views, however, were worth seeing at least once in their lifetime. The man wouldn’t even mention Ruínas da Videira Morta, so as not to give them any ideas to find the old, abandoned ruin. He had not seen it with his own eyes, which meant that the story might be entirely fabricated until he said so. Rumors were mostly just rumors, but Santi had heard them enough times to know that there was something out there— even if it wasn’t the abandoned station— that was more a risk than entertainment. The next gondola, departing in six minutes, was waiting for passengers when the group arrived at the platform. “These magical gondolas will take us on a one-way ride to Vila do Mato, the nearby jungle village. From there, you can branch out onto your own routes. If you’re a third year or above, don’t lose the pass.” Santiago sorted through the travel passes and held them up in front of the group. One by one, he allowed them to step forward and take one, though he would make no effort to confirm whether they lied about their age or not, unless someone looked particularly guilty. “Stay away from cargo points and long-distance lines. If for some reason you still decide to do so, stick to a Castelobruxo student if you can. Don’t get lost.” A slight glint caught in his eyes as he scanned the group, though his tone remained firm. “It’s easier than you think.” One by one, he gestured for the students who had arrived in time to enter the gondola, waiting until last to board himself. Santiago stuck to standing, even if there were seats. He'd only travel to the Village for moral support, perhaps grab a coffee at the Canopy Cup while he was there. With everyone aboard, the gondola began its journey towards Vila do Mato. Anyone who would arrive late would have to wait another fifteen minutes for the next gondola, sans travel pass. |

When offered an opportunity to escape, the wolf, or prey, would never say no. The humidity had begun to feel like a prison in itself; after a few days spent at Castelobruxo, Ilias still regretted not bringing more clothes. He’d fit three shirts of varying thickness and length in his small backpack, and by the third day, he had to wash two of them. The t-shirt he wore for the afternoon excursion was still damp from dipping it in a river bank, and several hours later, it had still not dried. He suspected it would never completely dry in these conditions. A permanent scowl seemed to have etched itself onto his face as he followed the group after the Headmaster towards the cable car station. One of the most notable features the school offered was a fully functioning transport system across the rain forest. For people like him, who started climbing the walls, literally, once stuck in a place for too long, it was almost a dream come true to be able to go far away, without repercussions. The repercussions back at Ilvermorny and his no-maj schools in the past hadn’t stopped him, but the amount of times he’d been dragged by his wrist or ear to the Headmaster was getting old. And painful. Perhaps futile, his hopes were that getting out of the grounds and reaching higher altitudes would provide a small reprieve from the climate, while also giving a chance to spread his wings. And if not, at least he was doing his maloca roommate a favor. Of course, as luck would have it, Ilias fell just by the finish line once the age limit was clarified. Ilias was only eight months short of thirteen, but unless another Ilvermorny student decided to be an idiot about it, no one here would know that he was lying when the boy joined the queue to receive a travel pass. He noticed, once he was up next in line, that the Headmaster regarded them with quite an intense gaze during distribution, perhaps to spot the liars among the crowd, but Ilias's unreadable expression revealed nothing. Once he had an official pass, Ilias drew back towards the back of the gondola, pressing himself against the furthest corner to avoid making any more physical contact with others than he was already forced to in the small vehicle. Ignoring the buzz, Ilias read the fine print on the pass while waiting for departure. Read, as in, grazing the words in a completely different language, acting as if he understood a word. The gondola eventually gave a subtle rattle when the six minutes had passed. Once in motion, his gaze lifted to the large window instead, watching in distant awe as the surrounding jungle canopy swallowed them as they headed towards the jungle village. An endless jungle moved past, almost in slow-motion. Trees, lush greenery, insects and, once in a while, colorful birds, were in endless supply. As time went on, his eyes glassed over vacantly as his mind drifted. Without noticing, his body shrank into the seat, and the side of his temple hit the glass window. His eyes would flicker between random fixed points on the other side of the glass, though he would probably not remember any of it once the promised twenty minutes were over. It was probably the longest twenty minutes in his life. Not that he was in any state to count properly, but there had been mention of the rainforest deception and rearrangement. If it was currently happening right in front of his eyes, he wouldn't know. The glass remained cool against his cheek. A drop of condensation from the trapped humidity traced a slow line down beside his face. Distantly, he wondered if the jungle was to blame, or if he was just impatient. At their destination, he watched people head towards the village center, but Ilias lingered back by the station, scanning the information signs for the different departing lines. All of them were in portuguese, meaning that he couldn’t understand anything, no matter how hard he squinted. Great. Where to now? Ilias thought, crossing his arms over his chest with a sigh. |

Headmaster Santiago spoke with a firm voice over the group of students. Headmaster Santiago’s words about travel passes and rules were steady but not overbearing. Denisse heard the speech carefully while she clutched the parchment tightly in her fists. Because Denisse was not a third year yet, Denisse understood that the journey would not go very far. Small feelings of expectation filled Denisse even though the trip to Vila do Mato was short.
Their passes were collected by the students one by one as the line moved forward. Denisse moved with light steps while she down. A soft “thank you” was whispered when Denisse took her pass. Katya shifted inside the carrier because the cat felt impatient. The tail of Katya moved because the cat wanted to see the lands beyond the station.
When Santiago gave warnings about cargo points and long lines, Denisse's stomach fluttered. Denisse imagined the jungle as an endless stretch of green where paths are changed by the caipora and old ruins stayed hidden under the vines while Denisse felt both excitement and fear. Denisse touched the fur of Katya through the mesh because the familiar feeling gave Denisse comfort.
The doors of the gondola opened and Denisse walked inside to find a seat near the window. As the gondola went up, the ground moved away so that the green forest appeared below. The jungle canopy looked like waves while birds flew between the branches. The air felt heavy because the scent of earth and rain remained strong.
Denisse pressed her forehead against the window. The glass was fogged by her breath while she looked at the beautiful scenery.
Katya made a soft sound and a smile was shown by Denisse when the cat purred. The gondola moved slowly while it took the travelers toward Vila do Mato. The village awaited the travelers in the jungle.
