Feast and Fire With Friends And Foes

Veda had never been out of the country before. She has been in Britain for her entire life, and besides that one time her mom and her traveled around the countryside, she never left. Not that the town they stayed at, Borton-On-The-Water, was bad (in fact it was quite homey and cute) but it wasn’t an adventure. This, however, definitely fell in the category of adventurous, and that automatically made Veda nervous.

As it often goes, her mom encouraged her to join, just as it went for the red labyrinth and most of her extracurricular activities. On the boat ride over, Veda couldn’t do anything but tap her leg and worry. She should have been admiring the beautiful jungle, but she instead was lost in her mind. However, she knew at least one person in her group, which was comforting. Cirrus was a kind person, if not a little… kooky at times, but that didn’t matter to Veda. As roommates, they didn’t interact as much as they probably should, but they were friendly. At least, Veda hoped so.

When they arrived, Veda finally emerged from her mind and looked around. Used to the cold winters or dry summers in London, the humidity was shocking. So was the view. The school was gorgeous, the pyramid looming over the Vedas head. The food looked even better.

As she saw a boy, Zephyr, she assumed, waver her and others over, she hesitantly sat down next to the group. The conversation started around food, but Veda zoned out. When she came back to the present moment, she heard Cirrus’s comment about alpacas, and despite herself she giggled. Realizing it might seem like she was laughing at her fellow Hufflepuff, her eyes widened. ”Oh! I wasn’t - I mean. That was funny. I-I wasn’t laughing at you,” she trailed off awkwardly. Quickly, Veda said to the people she didn’t know, ”Uh, I’m Veda. Nice to meet you!”

Sky's godmodding was approved.
Coded by Melissa Blake
Once again, and for everyone's surprise, it was all Sky's fault.

Well, not entirely. The second we placed a foot at Castelobruxo, she threatened me saying that if I didn't talk to anyone or made at least one friend, she wouldn't talk to me until we arrived to Hogwarts. And I didn't want to lose my sister's favor, so here I was.

South America was beautiful. It was a whole new world. Not to mention the view, which was also breathtaking, but the whole vibe. Everyone was so nice and peaceful in here, and the weather was just right. Perfect. I wanted to stay here forever. This place was perfect. And I think I have a new thing to obsess over this summer.

The place was crowded. Unconsiously, my eyes searched for the familiar hair of my sister, Sky. And when I found it, she seemed to be... busy with someone. I didn't even look at the other face, I just turned around. I can do this. You can do this, Mika. How hard can it be to talk to a few people?

I took a seat, noticing a few familiar faces of Guinevere and Tina, they both seemed not to notice me. Great. Come to me then, people.

It was almost time for summer break, and Harumi was already readying herself for the inevitable good byes she doesn't want to say. After all the time spent here, it felt like home more than anywhere else ever did, she made friends that she can call family, learned useful and unless things, joined activities, became a quidditch captain, became a headliner reporter, so why should she depart after so many shared laughs and smiles? And as if the world decided to give her one more opportunity to enjoy her time with friends and perhaps make new ones, Castelobruxo hosts an international game of.. capturing flags?

----The girl didn't think twice, capturing flags or flying satchels, it didn't matter, as long as it's with her friends, she can go to the edges of the universe and back. So she signed up without any hesitation, or thinking, she can try to understand later anyway. So yet again, she finds herself far from Hogwarts and in the Amazon rainforest, somewhere she definitely shouldn't be in normally, but nothing about magical life is normal anyway.

----The place had many students from different schools much like most of the other events, Harumi couldn't help but wonder which of those they'll be facing in capture the flag tomorrow. Unintentionally she started thinking of what they could possibly do tomorrow, maybe they could plan something quickly tonight. Harumi lost far too many games this year, including her very first Quidditch match as a captain, and it's about time she won once, otherwise her dignity will be too wounded and she won't come back next year. Well, maybe she'll come back, but change her identity, she has all summer to plan something if it comes down to this.

----As per usual, Harumi was reminded other humans exist when her friend, Zephyr brought her back to reality by asking her if she liked any of the food, she had to glance at the table quickly to see if there's anything edible, and obviously there were. "Umm that thing?" She pointed at the Causa Limeña. "It's potato with avocado in it, and is that crab?" She wondered before looking around to see who else was there.

----She waved at Skylar, Julia, Rose, Laasya with a smile before looking at her fellow Hufflepuff, Cirrus who had just said the alpacas are better than food, obviously Harumi understood what she meant, however she was about to playfully ask her whether she wanted to eat an alpaca anyway, but the girl quickly clarified and seemed embarrassed about it making Harumi instantly feel guilty at her unfulfilled plan. Veda, another fellow Hufflepuff whom Harumi looked at for help hoping she could comfort the other girl, seemed to be awkward in her own right too, so Harumi simply gave up.

----"Oh I'm Harumi! Nice to meet you too." Harumi replied to Veda in an awfully cheerful tone, trying to hide her own awkwardness. After finally waving at everyone, she looked around analysing her team, and she came up with nothing except they can throw Zephyr at physical stuff cause he's strong, and Skylar can cast spells cause she's good at magic. Speaking of Zephyr, it was now that she noticed he's the only boy here, maybe they should come up with a girly team name without his knowledge, and then when he finds out, he'll have to accept his reality. Maybe "The cherry princesses" or something, he'll never know it was her idea, she absolutely can't let him know.

----Soon the girl would look at the llamas and alpacas chewing whatever. "I wish I could keep a llama as a pet." The girl mumbled before looking at the others and getting an idea. "Rose, Skylar! Want to help me smuggle a llama back to Hogwarts? It can be our pet in Hogwarts!" She exclaimed. "We can share it, it'll be Skylar's on Sunday and Monday, Rose's on Tuesday and Wednesday, and mine on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday! Extra day for me cause it's my idea." She continued teasingly. Obviously she wasn't going to annoy the poor animal or anything, at least hopefully she's not crazy enough to actually follow through, but it's worth seeing the two girls, and also everyone's, reactions.

Kira was leaned against a pillar, watching what the crowd of students mill around amongst one another. She already felt like shit, she hated traveling, and the weather surely wasn’t doing anything to help. It was hot. Way too hot. And humid.

She pulled a silk fan out of her purse. One wrist flicked back and forth as she moved the fan whilst the other repeatedly brushed her hair over her shoulder to avoid it sticking to the base of her neck. Hopefully they had ac indoors. It was the least they could do to accommodate students from abroad, from places where people didn’t live in the sweltering heat everyday.

She’d only joined this event because… Why had she come? It surely wasn’t the people, or the environment. Perhaps she had only wanted some change, something away from the monotony of life at school.

She stood to the side a moment longer before seating herself as the food began appearing. All of it was strange, unfamiliar. Finally, landing on a familiar dish, she placed a few pieces of steak onto her plate and, for variety, some empanadas and raw fish. She ate silently, making sure to cut everything into small pieces. What the others were doing was none of her business.

This was the third school Skylar had visited this year. Some might have thought it unusual for a young girl to travel this much, but Skylar certainly didn’t. She had been eagerly waiting for this trip, just as she had before her journey to Tenusa. If anything, she wished there had been more opportunities. That was the main purpose for which she came to school anyway, not just for books and experiments, but for adventure and experiences. The moment Castelobruxo came into view, she almost forgot to blink. Tenusa had felt sacred and alive, as though nature itself had claimed the school. Koldovstoretz had felt powerful and cold. Castelobruxo was different. It felt bright and humid. What caught her attention immediately was the greenery. Everywhere she saw was the shades of deep green, the sort of rich color healthy plants took on after a rainfall. That was the kind of green she liked most. It was really refreshing to both the sight and the smell. Some plants were familiar. Many were not. She wandered in every possible direction, just like the world was hers alone. Every time she thought she had found the most interesting thing around her, she immediately discovered another. By the time they reached the pavilion, she had mentally collected enough questions to fill an entire notebook.

When Zephyr whispered that, it reminded him of Tenusa. She nodded. “A little.” Her eyes were still on the sightseeing. “Tenusa feels like the herbal village in the forest. But this… This feels more like someone built a resort in the middle of a rainforest and somehow convinced nature to approve of it.” She looked entirely serious as she said it. The three-course meals were not much of an attraction for her. Surely, the terrine looked interesting enough, but crab and avocado? It felt like an oddly complicated combination to her taste. Then her gaze drifted toward the animals. “They’re fluffier than I thought.” Never saw an alpaca up close before. Despite growing up with a mother who worked with magical creatures, Skylar had never actually spent much time around animals. Non-magical ones were rarer for a girl who spent all her life in the gardens. Most of the time, she only knew them through photographs, books, and the stories she had been told. She smirked before reaching for her food. “Why do we have to trouble separating the days? There are three of us. I would smuggle three of them.” Replying to what Harumi suggested, she added. “Or… we could just stay here and live with them instead,” She chuckled.

As Headmaster Santiago welcomed everyone, Skylar tried her best to pay attention. She truly did. Unfortunately, there were a few distractions. “…Guys, look.” Her voice sounded very excited as one of the alpacas came close to her. Their eyes looked nosy, yet adorable. She tried to extend her arm and pet it. PFFFT. Something wet hit across her face instantly.“What the… It spat at me!” She rolled her eyes. “You are not friendly as you look,” She talked to an unbothered face in front of her.

It was finally starting to feel more like summer, and the trip to South America’s wizarding school, Castelobruxo, strengthened that feeling even more, made me forget how miserable school is. Wizards travelled much more efficiently than muggles, in Malakai’s opinion, because the journey from Hogwarts to here was far more pleasant than what he has remembered of the one from Japan.
In any case, the memory of the trip faded as soon as he entered the school grounds. They were exotic, filled with plants, animals, and all sorts of things Malakai had never seen before. Now he understood why so many books — both in the muggle and the magical worlds — had been written about these lands. He promised himself that over his time here he’d take a few hours out of his day to explore the place. Yeah, right. I'm definitely skipping some boring lectures to go exploring.
That evening, he joined the other visiting students on their way to the pavilion where the opening feast would be held. He’d heard there’d be food and performances, and he couldn’t wait to see what else this trip had in store. Although he was very excited for the capture the flag game, he maintained his habit of getting overly intense before any competition. I NEED THIS GAME TO START ALREADY ALREADY! When attending championships back home, his days were spent counting protein and working out. This evening, he was certainly ready to feast on protein and fuel up for the game.
As he approached the pavilion, it was already crowded. Some people stood around while others took their seats at the tables as the feast seemed about to begin. He took a nearby seat, looking around and observing the people at his table. He was interested in making a friend or two from other wizarding schools, as, being from a muggle family, he still didn’t know much about that sphere. On the other hand, he was nervous about his English, he was still a beginner. Maybe he could chat to other japanese students, but he wasn’t sure if there was a magic school in Japan (I should probably know this), and if there was, how could he tell the students apart? But knowing that other student’s native language might also not be English, he gained a little confidence.
Next to him sat a girl, whom he’d never seen around the corridors at Hogwarts before, so that was a good start. What he noticed was that she looked quite unhappy. An unpleasant expression was plastered on her face, one that seemed to pierce through anyone who caught her gaze. He thought it was funny, how they sat in this beautiful pavilion, under a sunset struck sky, with llamas and alpacas wandering around, like in a true paradise, and she looked as if she’d just eaten a sour lemon.
What’s got you so tense?” he asked in a teasing tone, partially wanting to annoy someone and partially wanting to strike up a conversation with anyone and everyone. “Is the steak…” he tried to remember the word, for a moment feeling a little embarrassed about not knowing it. What is it?..…overseasoned,nailed it, “or what?” he snickered to himself while awaiting her reaction.

Arriving at Castelobruxo, Fawkes was excited. She loved to travel around the world and this would technically be the first time she's gone to South America. She really wanted to experience the South American culture. She was well versed with culture from the East but not the West.

When she arrived to the school she was in awe. The vast greenery, the beautiful waterfalls and oh, how nicely the sky blended into various colours as the sun set. It was nice and clear as well making the perfect view. The next thing she noticed was the spread of food kept out on the tables for people. The colours were warm and earthy. She was sure her cousins would love this if they attended the event.

She went over to sit down in the pavillion. She recognised a couple of people but they seemed to be engaged in their own groups and she didn't want to disturb them. Instead she sat alone watching as people came and sat one by one. Not long after, Castelobruxo's headmaster gave a quick speech. She had to agree that getting some rest would be good for tomorrow's games. Maybe she would turn in early tonight. Who was she kidding of course she wasn't. The area had a completely different sky from England and she was planning on staying up to see it.

To say Damien was absolutely impressed was an understatement as he adored the fire dancers and thought they were absolutely amazing! Damien admired the older students determination to put on a show for them while they eat. It was noble and bold something he respected plus a show while you’re eating is such a brilliant concept. Speaking of eating, the food was absolutely incredible so many different flavors Damien had never even tasted before. He honestly thought this might be his favorite part of visiting other magical schools as not only does he get a change in scenery but he also gets to meet new people and have new experiences and learn about other cultures.

But that wasn’t the only thing that excited him while he was here. He was just happy to be in the company of Artie Kempston, a shy and very cute Gryffindor blonde boy who was much shorter then Damien but seemed to enjoy his company as well or so Damien hopped. He turned his attention back to the blonde admiring all his noticeable features before just smiling and propping his head on his hand and just admiring Artie. “So how are you enjoying all of this so far Artie ?”

He asked trying to make some small talk as he knew Artie was probably super excited due to all the cool sights or nervous because this could in fact be overwhelming too. Damien wanted to make sure that Artie would feel comfortable and just overall enjoy himself.

𝓢uffice to say, though Arkady was abundantly aware the Amazonas would be a climate unlike any he'd experienced before, he was dreadfully unprepared for the onslaught of heat that hit him the second he touched down in the rainforest. Figuring he should dress somewhat formally for a grand welcoming feast, he wore taupe linen trousers and an airy navy shirt – though it was nowhere near enough to withstand the humidity. He was Polish, for crying out loud – and blonde. Sleeves rolled to his forearms, he wondered if it would be deemed dramatic to cast Glacius over his clothes, but thought better than to risk it. After all, as this was his first international appearance as Headmaster of Ilvermorny, he was under great pressure to make a good impression on his colleagues from abroad. It was not everyday they would be united over one dinner table. An iron fist clenched in his chest, his breath feathering a little at the thought. Arek softly pressed the back of his hand to his cheek to check for warmth, though the old comforting habit did little to sooth his nerves given his temperate surroundings. He glanced back at his hoard of Ilvermorny students, tittering away behind him and shooting him expectant, wary looks. Something about it melted his anxiety unlike any other heatwave. With that, he put on a brave smile, shot them a little wink and got moving. "Time waits for no man, eh?"

Arriving at the pavilion, Arkady beamed at the decadent sight laid out before them. Castelobruxo was a place that seemed to breath life and light into every little detail, from the pottery, to the plant arrangements, to the carefully-set tables of earthy hues. The students seemed to wait eagerly, peering at their Northern counterparts with curiosity. Arek felt his heart swell; he found it unbelievable that he had not taken to education sooner. Seeing the fire-lit eyes of the youngest students as the greeted their new peers was enough for him to die happy. The sun disappeared on the horizon, oranges and purples bleeding out like watercolours across the sky. If only he could reach up and bottle those colours for his next piece. He would have to memorise the sight for when he eventually returned home to his canvases; though the thought of leaving so soon earned a dreamy, wistful sigh from the man.

It took him a moment to bring his imagination back down to solid ground, but once he did, anxiety possessed him once more. Was he sunburnt? He definitely felt sunburnt. God, and his tattoos were on full display, his forearms bare from the unfathomable heat. Arek felt his face heat up instantly and he sighed, biting the inside of his cheek. He was far too old and grown to be feeling this way, but something about the situation brought him back to his first days at Durmstrang and Ilvermorny. A new face amongst the crowd, tongue cut from his throat, unable to feel at home without the eyes of many glaring at him with high expectations. He pulled in another gust of breath. Long past his days of mute invisibility, Arkady was now a prominent figure of the North American wizarding community. Given he was visiting their Southern allies, he should act as much. Running a hand through his stray ice-blonde hair, he approached the table of staff members with a mellow smile, delivering his humble introductions. Sending a silent thanks to the sky, Arek fell into a sweet rhythm of conversation with many, relieved beyond expectation that he had been received so well – and so kindly at that. It was not long before the guests were ushered into their seats, shuffled amongst different schools like a deck of cards. It was as he found himself at the right hand of the centre seat that Ark processed what he was in for.

Santiago Peralta rose from his seat to address his audience and Arkady felt his stomach lurch. There was no mistaking it – Arek would remember that side profile anywhere, from the many nights they lay in the same bed together. The charming mess of curls upon his head and those bushy eyebrows, furrowed with the curl of his lip. He was older – sure. But everything else about him seemed the same. The intensity, the swagger, the way he seemed to drip with arrogance. Anger was not a familiar feeling for Arek. He had felt many things – resentment, guilt, dread, fear. As he looked upon the man to his left, he found himself wrestling the scowl from his face. Without much thought, he covered his mouth with his hand, staring at his plate and tuning out most of the man's pleasantries and welcomes. What were the odds of an ex-fling from his days in Berlin, miraculously resurfacing as the Headmaster of his neighbouring school. If God were real, he was playing a cruel joke on Ark (which he perhaps deserved, at least a little bit.)

It didn't take long for Arkady to school his expression, though it seemed to fall flat compared to the spark he often carried with every glance and knowing grin. He forced a small polite smile, eyes still trained on his cutlery before him as Santiago took his seat. His hand rubbed at his forearm, which was adorned with bleeding black ink sculptures, illustrations built meticulously like cathedrals upon his skin. Angels, poetry, creatures of myth. Acquired long after Santi's time – after all, their days together were a mere bat of an eyelid in both of their lives, however intense or destructive it was. It brought Arkady a little comfort, knowing he was older; he took up more space, and while some scars were still in the process of healing, he felt he'd built himself up taller than he once was. After all, he was Headmaster of Ilvermorny now. That had to count for something.

Dinner commenced with little conversation directed towards their benevolent host. In fact, Arkady busied himself with his partner to his left, their laughter like song amidst the festivities. With all that was brewing in Arek's mind, it was gentle reprieve getting to know his peers. It was only when the first course was served that Arkady deigned to glance at Peralta, his lips curving up in a saccharine smile.

"Santiago. It's good to see you again."

xxxThe first thing that Skylar registers about the place was that it was hot. The sweltering heat and humid air clings to her like a second skin, making her immensely grateful for choosing a breathable and light outfit. But despite the unfamiliar temperature, the blue-haired girl can still be found grinning ear-to-ear in this new land of adventure.

It took a lot of convincing, but her parents finally allowed her to come to the event. They were originally hesitant about sending Skylar to Castelobruxo, because they thought it was a little too "wild" for their taste. They also hardly let Skylar go anywhere farther than their garden estate, so she could not say that she was too surprised. But Skylar can always make convincing arguments and can be pretty persuasive if she needed to. After all, she had plenty of practice with her best friend, Mika, whom Skylar has to basically drag to every event. She was experienced in the art of convincing and successfully booked herself a trip to the International Castelobruxo Capture the Flag Event.

Despite being pampered since she was young and being acclimated to the structured order of Hogwarts, Skylar finds herself enjoying Castelobruxo. The novelty of being in somewhere other than her room makes the heat and humidity of the place bearable. But not only that, the Amazon rainforest proves itself to be more interesting than Skylar took it for. Creatures she has never seen before crawl through the jungle, their wide eyes and vibrant colors vastly different from the bleak grey of London.

Another thing that piqued Skylar's interest were the sky routes. When she first heard it, she had thought that they were routes where students could fly with their brooms. She was excited to finally travel with her broom, since Hogwarts only allowed flying on the grounds and not anywhere else. However, apparently the sky routes were just Castelobruxo's extensive cable car system. Though it was slightly disappointing, Skylar still finds the cable cars quite nice. The view from above was breathtakingly beautiful, the jungle village below teeming with life. The actual school itself stand proudly in its place, the Mesoamerican pyramid visible from all the way up here. There was no doubt in her mind that these next few weeks will be an interesting experience.

After dropping off her trunk in her assigned Maloca, she sets out to the outside pavilion. The welcome feast was prepared and she would be damned if she missed any of it. And though she was excited for the new experience, the girl is also looking forward to seeing the familiar faces of her friends. There was Mika, whom Skylar had to force into coming; Ellaine, her ever gentle Hufflepuff friend; and Paul, a fellow Gryffindor that Skylar has taken a liking to banter.

By the time she made it to the gathering, the pavilion was already bustling with activity. The atmosphere was lively and several cheers went around at the mention of a fire-dance. To sum it all up, Skylar was intrigued. She makes her way through the crowd, her wide eyes taking everything in. However, her attention was quickly grabbed by the mention of the alpacas.

Turning her head to see what the Headmaster of Castelobruxo meant, Skylar notices a few students attempting to lure in an alpaca. And one of them happens to be a very familiar Paul Turner.

Tilting her head, Skylar watches as her friend engages in a conversation with the alpacas. A smirk tugs at her lips as she watches Paul offer them an apple. She quietly makes her way to the boy, stopping right behind him. Then she grabs him the shoulders and shakes him slightly, attempting to startle him.

"Boo! Trying to replace me with a group of alpacas, Turner? I think not!"
