OOC FAQ Duelling Questions

Alice Wang wrote: 16 May 2026, 13:38 Hi, I have a question. I'm a first year and if I join the duelling team, normally first and second years won't get to play in the official matches. However, if we want to earn stat points, what should we do? Can someone please answer this question quickly? Thanks!
Hello Alice! Players are able to play in official matches if they are on the official house team roster, including first and second years. You may find your house team's sign-up thread in your house's common room. (Gryffindor Duelling Team Sign-up is likely in this thread. I do not have access to the Gryffindor common room so I copied it from our official Duelling System Rules.)

As for stat points, like what Julia said, you gain +5 stat points each year for graduation. You get an additional +1 stat point if you win a sports match. I hope this helps!

Quick duel mod confirmation. :)

So basically I did a couple damage rolls earlier for Flipendo and got an owl from one of my duelists saying I may have done it wrong but they’re not sure.

Basically I did the normal formula with Tatsu, but I put in the arcane power for the person receiving the damage/effects of the spell. Is that the way you do it or do you use the arcane power from the person performing the spell?

Hi Avery! Damage calculations use the arcane power of the person who cast the spell, not the target.

Okay, so if ventus was targeted at someone and it was critical success, what should I do next? Is there a roll for auto-split (who would it split to?) or is there something else you should do?

Hi Avery! Ventus has a few different critical success options depending on the situation. I've copied them from the spell list:
Critical Success
• If two targets present: Auto-split & +70 Damage upon hit.
• If one target present: +70 Damage. No duration roll — max duration applied.
• If the effect is targeted: Removes the whole effect & +70 Damage to a random opponent.
I believe either the first or second point will apply in your case. The auto-split described in the first point would be automatic, no roll needed. Let me know if you have further questions!

Just to clarify since all three opponents are still in the duel, how would you split the spell? Would it go to all three or just the targeted person and one more person? (Also, could you look over my modding stuff after this and my questions? I want to make sure I did everything right. :))

It would go to the targeted person and one more person (I recommend using t!choose or rolling a two-sided dice). Feel free to owl me with what specifically you would like looked over!

Hello, I'm a little confused on how the action search for wand works. How do you determine if it succeeds or fails, and does the evasion bonus you gain play a part in finding the wand?
