THE GREENHOUSES

NOTE. the description of fungi and plants in greenhouse vi [fungi] and vii [dangerous plants] were written by the lovely adeline spinks.
Under the massive dome of the Main Greenhouse is found several other greenhouses, used in Herbology Classes. On the main floor can be found Greenhouse One, Two, Three and Five ; on the lower floor can be found Greenhouse Four and Six, and on the upper floor can be found Greenhouse Seven. Each Greenhouse houses different plants, flowers and fungi, and each have its specific biome, with different climate conditions.

RULES AND INFORMATION
☘︎ — You are welcome to roleplay in any of the Greenhouses, except for the Outskirts Greenhouses (ongoing project). The greenhouses are locked outside of classes, so if you want your character to roleplay inside of one, you can say Malaika authorized you and unlocked it for you. If you want any other IC addition, owl me!
☘︎ — Greenhouse Seven IC is restricted to students, so unless you are a Fifth Year and above, it is forbidden to your character. Fifth Years and Sixth Year must be accompanied by the Professor, or have her explicit permission. Third year are exceptionally allowed but only for the Mandrake Lesson, and only with the Professor.
☘︎ — If you truly wish to roleplay with a dangerous plant, or a plant found in Greenhouse Seven, then your character can break into this Greenhouse. This would require the Alohomora Charm, and would result in your character being auto-caught by Professor Omenuko and given detention. My permission is needed to roleplay your character breaking in, so please owl me if you want to be up to no good!
☘︎ — The plants found in each Greenhouse are described in the posts below. These are permanent residents, however we do have other plants that come and go depending on the season, so if you want your character to roleplay with another plant not featured in the list, you can! If it is a dangerous / rare plant, please owl me and we can discuss it. It would be great if you could respect each Greenhouse's biome while roleplaying with this new plant, but I won't chase you if you don't!
☘︎ — If you're confused about the layout, refer to the map!
☘︎ — Any questions or suggestions can be addressed in my owls or dms.

Greenhouses
GREENHOUSE ONE — temperate
Greenhouse One is the Temperate Greenhouse. Its biome mimics the climate found in western europe and northern america, specifically in forests and woodlands. Its conditions include medium temperature, reaching mild heat in the summer and cold winters ; as well as regular precipitations and moderate humidity.
The First Greenhouse is traditional — on either side of the structure, work benches used to study plant samples outline large pots where those plants are found. Wooden stools are scattered throughout the room. Near the entrance and on the far end of the greenhouse can be found desks paired with chairs, for students who wish to study, read or write papers. Sinks are set up against the back wall, and shelves with various books, tools and other useful items are scattered throughout the room. Fertilizers and other plant food can be found in large buckets.

GREENHOUSE TWO — mediterranean
Greenhouse Two is the Mediterranean Greenhouse. Its biome mimics the climate found in european countries, particularly the ones around the Mediterranean Sea. In the summer, the temperatures reaches high level, and the humidity level is dry. In the winter, the temperatures lower, becoming cooler, and the humidity becomes wetter.
Upon entering the greenhouse, students would find a few desks and chairs on either side, for those who wish to study texts, read or write assignments. In the center can be found the work benches, pots embedded in high wooden desks to be able to work on plants and correctly handle them. In between those surfaces are the plants contained in the greenhouse, in various sizes of pots. On either side of the greenhouse can be found shelves or desks with tools, books and other useful items. At the very end of it, are larger trees and plants, as well as vines climbing up to the ceiling. Sinks with clean water would also be easily accessible, as well as dirt and fertilizers.

GREENHOUSE THREE — tropical
Greenhouse Three is the Tropical Greenhouse. Its biome mimics the climate found in tropical forests. The temperature and humidity are high, the ceiling is covered in a dense foliage and the soil is fertile. Sprinkles imitates high annual precipitation, which are often abundant in tropical climates, with occasional seasonal dryness.
The Third Greenhouse has large plant pots on either side of the room, each filled with various species of tropical plant. Against each pot is lined several work benches, upon which students can work on and study. Fertilizers and other food are stacked directly on the left of the door, and in the center can be found counters with various tools useful for Herbology. At the very end of it are found the desks, as well as a sink and empty pots scattered.

Greenhouses
GREENHOUSE FOUR — aquatic
Greenhouse Four is the Aquatic Greenhouse. Its biome mimics the climate found in the heart of the ocean. The light is lowered and filtered, it is kept cool, humid, and the plants are plunged in deep basins of clear or salt water, depending on their needs. It is regularly changed to prevent stagnation, and filtered.
The Fourth Greenhouse has work benches, desks and other studying surfaces available as soon as one walks through the door, saving the deeper, darker corner for the plants. There are large basins found at the very end of the greenhouse and on either side, filled with aquatic plants. A pond is found in the middle, where students can work on their samples without disturbing the rest of the flora. All of the paper and books are waterproof, and the tools as well as other equipments are adapted specifically for this unique environment.

Greenhouses
GREENHOUSE FIVE — desertic
Greenhouse Five is the Desertic Greenhouse. Its biome mimics the climate found in deserts such as northern africa or middle east. The conditions are arid, with temperatures rising to the extreme and low humidity. The greenhouse is enchanted to mimic droughts with unpredictable precipitations and high winds, though extremely rare.
The Fifth Greenhouse is characteristically the hottest of them all, though fans and cooling charms are provided by the Professor. Cacti and other desertic flora are scattered throughout the structure, with a large pot found at the end while a few others are scattered in between tables. The work benches are aligned in the center, and on either side is found various ressources such as books or herbology tools. The two sinks found inside the greenhouse are mainly for the students, as those plants do not really require constant flood.

GREENHOUSE SIX — fungi
Greenhouse Six is the Fungi Greenhouse. Its biome mimics the climate in which mushrooms are known to thrive. The chamber is kept warm, dark, and damp with high humidity. It adapts to what stage their stage and species.
The Sixth Greenhouse is the darkest, with light being kept as minimal as possible. The work benches circle — or rather, rectangle — each pot where various species of mushroom are planted. Masks and gloves are mandatory, and since certain species are poisonous, students are advised to be careful about contact and inhalation. Tools, soil and other food are available on either wall, paired with extensive bookshelves.

Greenhouses
GREENHOUSE SEVEN — dangerous plants
Greenhouse Seven is the Dangerous Plants Greenhouse. Its biome mimics no particular climat, as it is specially design to house all kinds of plants and flora, and adapts to their required conditions. Its singularity resides in the fact that death awaits you at every step you take — these plants are not here to be messed with.
The Seventh Greenhouse is kept under lock and key, to prevent unwary students from making their way straight into a Fanged Geranium's mouth. The work benches and special pots designed to tend to samples are kept in the middle, while the plants occupy the rest of the room. On either corner of the door are dead trees and roots which can serve as food for some of the plants, as well as tools and other protective gear.

OUTSKIRTS GREENHOUSE — abandoned
History says it was once a greenhouse where any plants could thrive regardless of their native habitats. It was created by an unidentified Herbology Professor near the 1980s, and was meant to become the jewel of Hogwarts's Greenhouses. Those looked after the Outskirts Greenhouse were called the Outskirts Greenhouse Caretakers, and tending to its well-being was a full time-task, as it required a steady presence. Plants would only thrive if cared for by a skilled hand — someone who had the capacities, heart and commitment to make them fully blossom. Albus Dumbledore once evoked that the Outskirts Greenhouses had many secrets to share with its caretaker, and, like the plants that grew there, those secrets would blossom with time and care.
Throughout its history, several Professors or students had taken a keen interest in this Greenhouse, but time and time again it fell into disuse, abandoned once its caretaker had left the school grounds.
Nowadays, it proudly stands just behind the Main Greenhouse, brushed by the rays of the sun under the winds of Hogwarts's Grounds. Nature has once more conquered manmade structures, and plants have begun to slowly cover it in a dense green foliage, trees, vines and bushes merging with the faded glass of its walls. From the outside, it could be the remnants of an ancient city long forgotten, abandoned to the whims of nature. The glass has began to crackle at some places, and the entrance is completely buried under thick layers of invasive flora.
The door has been carefully locked by previous Professors, preventing anyone from stepping foot inside of its precarious structure. The ceiling could crumble at all times, and some vile magical plants have found a refuge in its darkened center, including a particularly nasty devil's snare, that covers half of the front door. Other things lurk beneath its roof, rumors claim to have seen moving shadows and loud knocks.
Despite its unappealing appearance, Malaika has taken an interest in the disused Greenhouse, and have several projects to, perhaps one day, restore it to its full glory. Until then, it remains a mythical figure of the Herbology Grounds, partially hidden behind vegetation and a never ending source of terrifying stories.
