The heiress knew the path wasn’t easy ever since she was hunted for the first time.

Learning she wasn’t pure blooded was the first step. A shock, in the least, a fundamental fear ignited. What if she was discovered. Eugenia stood as the heiress of one of the most important Greek bloodlines, now tainted with muggle blood as a trick. She couldn’t be angry at her grandmother. She wanted, no needed a better life. She had found an opportunity.

However, it became fragile after all that, and certainly very hazardous. The entire family was treading on eggshells; lest their secret was discovered, they were not only going to lose their status, but perhaps their lives. Eugenia, the ray of sunshine she was, lived though it cheerfully, hoping nothing would go wrong, making friends and trying things.

Perfect never lasts huh?

The nightmares came first. Her taking down her sister, both being unsafe, screaming, crying as the manor went up in flames. Faceless men injuring her last strings of pride, pain at its rawest form. She never dared tell anyone, but she was sure they could see it. Dark circles started to form around her eyes when she returned for her second year. The cheerfulness, ever present when around her family was starting to crack. Maybe it wasn’t safe. Maybe it was all a lie, a beautiful one her rose-tinted glasses of hope had produced. And as things began getting more corrupted, all her friends leaving her behind she felt empty. Lost.

She met new people. Individuals who would help her, in the simple ways she asked fur assistance. Refuge for books. Plans for suggestions. Diplomacy became a support she never imagined having to rely on. It was a tactic she hadn’t even realised she had been following until she had time to think about it.

The Winter holidays of 2024-2025 were the breaking point. Unexpected visitors were a gift, for she had had her first warnings. The seers in her family saying New Years was going to hurt them. The family was one of the most prominent Greek pure blood lines. They had money, a great shipping business and a great reputation. However, since her grandfather’s tragic death, there had been rumours of corruption. Extremists even claimed there was a muggle connection. Most didn’t believe such rumours but they were enough to make the family a target. She feared for her safety. So the girl devised a plan to run. And run she did, when the intruders barged in, overthrowing all the wards and searching for the heir and heiresses. The two sisters ran through corridors unknown to most of the family, adrenaline coursing through their veins. They barely made it to the fireplace, they barely made it to the safe houses.Eugenia never felt safe. In her mind there was a constant fight between the need to run and her decision to stay. The letter from her parents assuring her about Ifigenia’s safety did not reassure her. At all really.

So she took her parents’ final advice before she returned seriously. Don’t talk much. Stay levelheaded. Be vigilant and careful with your words. And she was indeed, barely talking all the rest of the year, withdrawing from most social interaction. The only thing she was determined not to lose was Quidditch. She diligently attended practices, just like she did her lesson. She felt like soaring was a gift. Freedom from fear.

Summer camp had not been an option for her, she knew that very well. Irina was the only person she was allowed to send some letters to, and she did, at least getting an idea of what she missed. What she instead got were extensive lessons on Greek politics, her family lines’ history and endless warnings about how to react. Yet they never taught her anything new. And she knew it was out of fear she would react and use the knowledge of new spells to stand up to their authority, when they wanted to keep her safe. She tried to do some reading herself, but since she nevertheless wouldn’t have been able to cast, it wasn’t of much help. Instead, she learnt to observe. Her sister would often try to distract her, but she observed and wrote almost everything. It felt like a way to cope with fear and she cherished it.

Only, she would need that knowledge much sooner than she thought. It had been barely a month and a half after she returned to Hogwarts for her third year when she got a letter from her parents, stating she would return immediately to the Smyrnidi manor. Her paternal aunt had been ambushed, immobilised and almost killed by people who wished to know the whereabouts of young Ifigenia. It wasn’t safe anymore.

The withdraw from the school had been hasty, and for the most part of the school year, she was locked up in the manor, while her parents tried to handle everything. Between their long absences, she wrote everything down. It was not pretty, but she had to. Because in the future, these would be the last days of a perceived normalcy. It was May when they allowed her to return.

All promises have their conditions however. She should have expected it.

She could only return with another surname. One she was familiar with; more than familiar. But she couldn’t really believe she had to do this. She was told the surnames of the entire lineage were to be changed. Her grandmother would be the only one they would keep the name, honouring her grandfather’s legacy. Her aunt would formally take her husband’s name. Her uncle took his wife’s last name and so did his kids. And the heir and heiresses had to change their last name to Smyrnidi. The surname of her mother. She was now the heir of two lineages, not only in paper. They said it was for her safety, but she was confused. Wouldn’t this put more people in danger?

But the Karageorgiadi name could be deadly if the muggle identity of her grandmother was discovered. And she knew her parents didn’t dare play around. A merge of lines would reinstate their reputation, as no family would agree to such a thing if they weren’t pure blooded. Moreover, the new line would have accumulated more fortune, but more power; should any extremist continue hunting them, they would have to face the wrath of two families, not just one. However sudden and uncomfortable, it was an effective solution. The only perhaps, that made it possible to stay alive.

She was, once again, the camp child, the flexible child, the golden child. She accepted the change quietly, if it meant she would return to school. Not only for their reasons, but for hers as well.

She would build a new name, a new Eugenia. And prove she wasn’t some lousy Hufflepuff but a worthy heiress. In her blood, danger was integrated just like anxiety and running was. It wasn’t going to be the same and she knew it. But she would emerge victorious once and for all, to prove she wasn’t just another little girl. To prove that neither her nightmares nor her past could best her. It hadn’t been an easy path, yes. But she had chosen and she would reach the end of it at all costs.

Original: Douglas (Avis' father) is currently a missing in action Auror for the British Ministry of Magic. He disappeared when Avis was 4 and his family is still unaware of his status (dead or alive, where he is, etc.) Greymond was assigned to bring a Dark Seer known by the name Ibrus into custody. Greymond, in his efforts to capture the Seer, had to use a cursed port-key (courtesy of Ibrus) to find his target. Unfortunately, the Seer’s curse resulted in the port-key (a ring) attaching itself to Greymond and leaving him stranded in different remote places around the world, reducing his ability to go where he pleases.

Changes: Douglas Greymond (Avis' father) was an Auror working for the British Ministry of Magic. He disappeared without a trace when Avis was four years old, leaving behind a family who have had no clue as to his whereabouts ever since.
Unbeknownst to them, Douglas was betrayed by his partner, Conan Dogwood, while working together on a case regarding a smuggling ring infamous for dealing dark magical artifacts. Dogwood, fearing the Ministry's discovery of his part in the ring, attempted to cover his tracks by Obliviating Avis' father after he found evidence of his partner's illegal smuggling work. Mistakenly, a confused and memory-less Douglas picked up one of the dark objects he'd discovered Dogwood with: a cursed Portkey in the shape of a ring, and as a result, was trapped in an endless loop of teleportation, launching him to different parts of the globe on a daily basis. Now, Dogwood searches the world for his old partner in an effort to retrieve the priceless dark object (the Portkey) and get rid of Douglas once and for all, but not if Avis can find him first...

Avery had never expected the death of her grandfather to be so sudden. It had torn a hole in her heart. Leaving her a shell of who she once was. She was not the only one shaken by the suddenness of her grandfather's death due to weakening from past illnesses. The rest of her family was feeling the pain and grief of the loss. Her grandfather was the life of the party. The one that held their broken family together. Without him, the world began to shatter around the family.

Avery's father, Arthur Gray, didn't want to leave his mother-in-law to fare alone now that he was called more and more to work later hours. Avery's mother, Raelynn Gray, had chosen to work more and rarely had time left to take care of her daughter. That left one option. An option Avery had never expected to ever have the chance at again. She was going to be home.

It had been an easy decision. Avery's grandmother needed someone to keep her comapny during the lonely summer and holidays and Avery's father needed somewhere for Avery to go home where she would be in company of an adult and he wouldn't have to worry about her. That was when the decision that she would be moving in with her grandmother in Swansea, Wales had come about.
