My dearest Aly,
I find myself thinking
of you
in each moment
missing

we are not together.
My hands outstretch
for your touch
but grasp at nothing,
stardust.
We are oceans apart,
yet connected at the heart.
A distance so great,
but nothing for a soulmate.
A summer day,
worries left on the sand.
Surf and tide,
but waves made on land.
Water and lightning do not mix,
but what was that spark?
What ran through my heart?
I was looking for the moon,
and found you instead.
My bright sunshine,
my light of day.
Then the stars,
our only connection.
Transcontinental treks,
start to a romance.
Feelings sealed
with a stamp.
Love flowed from my pen,
yet left nothing on the page.
How could you do such a thing
being my inspiration
yet stealing it away?
Every word was a fragment of my heart,
tearing it out,
tearing it apart.
And my heart was falling

Every letter,
a secret confession.
Love professed
with every sentence.
My muse, my muse,
even stanzas
cannot contain
the feelings that flow
on every whim.
I am the poet,
you, the poem.
You are an art,
that cannot be mastered.
And yet, my heart,
it beats ever faster.
Let every line
and every rhyme
Be a reminder
of your hand in mine.
For your birthday,
would you give me a present instead
and be my girlfriend?

I'm nowhere near as poetic as you, but allow me to give this a try (and promise you won't laugh at me):

They touch my heart, I must confess
And to your question written down
It is my pleasure to say: yes!
Of course I'll be your girlfriend. Ah, this is just so exciting! And so full circle, too, since we met (properly, at least) for the first time on your eighteenth birthday, and now look at where we are by the time I turned eighteen. How sweet of you to remember. This means so very much to me; you truly have no idea.
I think of you far too often, too. My dreams are full of that night on the balcony after the ball; I never thought something like this, or like that, would have ever happened to me, but I am so glad it took this long. You are worth the wait a thousand times over. I can't wait to see you again, to hold your hand in mine, to make you teach me to surf (properly this time!) - I'll bake you all your favourites and you can sweep me off my feet, maybe with your words or maybe literally. I dunno - I feel like I'm rambling at this point, but I'm just so excited. I miss you so much already, and this just made me miss you even more!
I hope this last full moon wasn't too taxing, my darling. Thank you so much for thinking of me even when you're recovering. You are just the kindest person I have ever met; I can't wait to call you mine, and to be called yours. Oh my Merlin, Dee will just about flip when I tell her the news! She'll probably want us to double-date with her and Madhup, just as a slight warning. But enough about that. The whole point is yes, a million yeses, my Kavi. Thank you.
