I have a tip that will hopefully help you for now. When you click the letter icon in a post, it will direct you to the owl system with the thread title automatically entered as the owl subject. You can check the owl subject to see whether there's a title tag there.Gloria Shell wrote: 7 Jun 2026, 13:11 I was wondering if you could still see tags even when you open the thread. Because for us mobile users depending on how long the title is, some of us can't see any of the tags. So we might not know if a RP tread is private or not.
Another tip for fewer clicks, you can check whether the poster mentioned (tagged) any players in the thread. Usually, this indicates that the thread is private to the players mentioned.

Hi,
I was wondering why we didn't give mentors automatically to new members as it will make monitoring the site so much easier and they wouldn't feel as lost instead of waiting for them to reach out or make a mistake and then saying "Oh btw we have a mentorship program" and wait in queue for them to get a mentor.
I'm aware we would probably need more mentors but there's a few in the waiting line so it would allow current members to have a responsible role whilst making daily tasks on HiO more efficient and helping new members get a grip of how to navigate around.

Hello! I don’t know all of the answer to your suggestion/question, but I do know that some new users don’t prefer a mentor. Some sign up for it, and then decide, oh, I can do this on my own. Like for me, for instance, I didn’t sign up for a mentor and I was fine. I asked a few questions and that was it. Some users need a little bit more help, which is completely fine. This is one of the reasons why we have a mentors program. I also know that we mentors try to keep on the ball on the mentee queue. We’ve recently increased our max number of mentees to from three to five, so mentees wouldn’t be waiting for a mentor for so long. I hope this brings more insight to your suggestion.![]()

Or perhaps in Slytherin,
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folk use any means,
To achieve their ends.

Welcome to the Noble House of Slytherin,
Since the Sorting Ceremony has successfully taken place, you have found out which House you will live in for the rest of your school years. If you think The Sorting Hat has put you in the wrong place, do not forget that its magic looks deep into your soul and has its reasons. For those who didn’t expect anything else, your House will embrace your arrival with just as much warmth.
Slytherin is the house of people with great ambition, shrewdness, and self-preservation. These made every one of us strong leaders. We are also resourceful, we find clever ways to overcome any difficulties in front of us. We easily adapt to a new situation and make the best use of any available resources around us. We have sharp judgment and are able to understand any situation which leads us to safety and even greatness.
We are now part of the legacy, along with the great wizards and witches that have even known. We will be shaped together in talents and strength. We are proud of our achievement and support each other to the fullest. Our ambitions are not only accepted here. They are encouraged. Never be afraid to dream boldly and to pursue it. Again, we are all here to support each other.
Our common room awaits you beneath the Great Lake, which holds mystery and elegance, much like Slytherins ourselves.
How to get into the house? To get to your House, go to the Hogwarts crest at the top left of the page. Hover or click Hogwarts and look for Slytherin Dungeon. Once you click or hover over it you will be home.
The Common Room : where all students from the House can discuss topics, take part of their House’s activities, and write stories with their fellow House members to develop their characters. Presenting your character is an important step to take in order to integrate into this House. This is also where you can collect your daily scholarship.
The Bulletin Board : News for the House will be presented to all students of the House. This is where you will find out a lot of important house related information. I recommend hitting the bell shaped icon to 'subscribe' to this board and the news within it.
Girls’ Dormitory/Boys’ Dormitory/Non-Binary Dormitory: is where your character will find her/his room and personal space. Of course, one member of a certain gender cannot go to the other gender’s dormitory. Try and the castle will remind you of this rule.
Out of Character Room: is where you, the writer, can interact with other writers from Slytherin. You will find information about Sports like Duelling, Broom Racing, and Quidditch here.
Head of House’s Office : is the official office given to the Head of House. Within here, you will find a questions and suggestion thread, should you have any. You can also owl me directly.
If you want to start your journey before entering the castle, here are some place worth to visit first:
Hogwarts Express -- Find your new friends in the compartments of the train. Your might have a funny encounters and interesting interactions, or even an exciting adventure!
Sorting Hat Ceremony -- Write about was your feeling when getting sorted. Excited? Happy? Anxious? Or all of them?
Slytherin Table -- Celebrate your new house in the table. You might find your favourite foods here.
What to do now ?
- Before starting your magical journey, take a few minutes to read the Rules & Regulations of the website. It will allow you to get a better understanding of it. While all the rules are important, what you have to remember the most are:- If you are still feeling a little overwhelmed by the website, check out our Where To Start thread. This guide will help provide you with key tips of where to begin your wizarding journey.
- Multiple Accounts are strictly prohibited. Full disclosure: we are checking the IP addresses of all website applicants. If a housemate, partner, sibling, etc., would like to apply, please inform any of the staff members of their accounts as well. After reporting, the members of the staff will evaluate the case. Having multiple accounts could lead to a permanent ban if not respected, so we ask you to be careful.
- No Godmodding: This would be controlling another player's character actions.
- No Metagaming: This would be using information that you acquired Out-Of-Character and using it In-Character. If your character has no way of knowing that information then you have no reason to use it.
- There is a requirement of 200 words of original in-character actions, descriptions, and thoughts in each of your in-character posts. [This means that copying the lyrics of a song would be someone else's work, as would quoting another user's post or words.] This is excluding the OOC Flood topics. Please ensure that you keep up with this expectation anywhere else (unless specified by the staff member that a thread has a lower word count requirement).
- FAQ is where you will find the answers to most of the frequently asked questions.
- Create your character's page on Encyclopedia -> Characters so it can be added to the Official Index. Once this is done, you will be able to join events, sports and adventures. Being on the official index is usually a requirement for official events or sports.
- Also, feel free to join our Discord to chat with everyone: Discord
- Finally, we also offer a Mentorship Program for new (or returning new) members. This is a great way to get integrated into the community if you are feeling overwhelmed or just need a bit of help getting started.
Note for anyone joining in June 2025: It is June, meaning graduation is around the corner! If you want to stay a first year for the 2025-2026 school year, make sure to send me an owl! Users can forward date up to three months, so you can already forward date Hogwarts threads set in September! You can use the 2025-2026 sorting thread here: Sorting Ceremony Thread and you can post in the 2025-2026 Slytherin table thread here: Slytherin Table 2025-2026
However, if you want to graduate to second year on July 1st, make sure to be registered with our official index before July 1st! Follow the process outlined here: Index Registration
Here are all the things you should know. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask me or another member of staff, including the house prefects. Welcome home!
Best Regards,

In validations, we also send owls to newly validated users with links to the mentorship program and the Sorting ceremony, and then yes, after they're sorted, they do get all of the important links from their HoH as well.Julia Evans wrote: 9 Jun 2026, 17:34 Regarding what brookline and tes said, I think after the sorting, we could have a page the shows links to site rules, mentorship program ,etc. ??

There is an automated owl, always has been since I joined. If it is missing an important link or a link is broken or out of date, which can happen, please let us know! But yes, we make sure new members know about the mentor program as well as other opportunities and my welcoming owl also mentions many of these elements as well. Sadly, not everyone reads. =(
