AULIS VOROZHEYKIN.
KOLDOVSTORETZ. DIRECTOR OF STUDIES.

Russian. | English.
Spoken. | Thought.
With this year's Hogwarts spring ball - the Wonderland Waltz, they'd nicknamed it, satisfying some strange English magl fairy-tale obsession on the part of the organisers, Aulis was sure - rapidly approaching, the director of studies at Koldovstoretz was in dire need of a reading. Despite his lack of the Sight, Aulis was actually not a bad diviner in the slightest, having studied it for years at school and then practiced it for a while and then taught it for even longer back where he had once been a student. The tarot cards he often carried with him, flourishing about for dramatic effect, were not just for show - he could interpret a spread quite effectively, and even crystal balls and tea leaves weren't bad, though they certainly weren't his favourites. It was hard to be impressive or flamboyant when you were staring at a lump of soggy grinds at the bottom of a cup.

Still, he was certain that utilising as many divinatory methods as possible to glean some information about tomorrow's ball would be most helpful. The events at this school were almost always dangerous, for one reason or another - and though Aulis had recently hosted his own flawless international gathering to show the other schools how it was done, he had no trust or faith in the Scottish school system and their ability to follow his impeccable example. Thus came the need to prepare as much as he could before the morrow, and for Aulis, that meant sneaking into the divination tower.

He was sure it would have been just as fine to hunt down the divination professor, whoever that may have been, and ask them for permission, but that also meant more time and effort. The former Div professor himself could have also just used his cabin, but an unfortunate (if attractive) houseguest - @Santiago Peralta - meant that his usual solo space was a bit more crowded than usual. Plus, the tower would have all the fixings for a full reading - tea, crystal, tarot, fire, bones, sticks, whatever you could name. And, luckily for Aulis, the tower was unlocked. (Or maybe he'd had to cast a sly, wandless "Alohomora". He couldn't remember, and he would certainly protest that it had been unlocked and the ladder unfurled when he had come to climb up into the classroom, if he were to be caught.)

First came his favourite - tarot, at a centre table in the intensely incense-scented and shrouded, draped tower room. Aulis gave his own deck a good shuffle, then split it in two. He had first brewed a good cup of strong black tea from what seemed to be the unknown home professor's private stores - if they didn't want their tea drank, perhaps they shouldn't have kept it in this classroom - and he sipped at it as he shuffled, wishing that he had thought to stop by the kitchens to grab some cream from the friendly house-elves there.

Aulis pulled three cards, then turned them over one by one as he took a mouthful of dark, bitter dregs; not needing any ostentatious dialogue to accompany his reading, since he was just doing it for himself, his mind raced to interpret what he saw.

Tower, reversed. Disaster avoided, perhaps - or at least delayed. If something was to go wrong at tomorrow's ball, it wouldn't be immediate.

Five of wands. Competition and conflict. Aulis knew that there was a sort of "royalty" election occurring tomorrow at the ball, for some of his students had gossiped about it, though he was quite sure none had entered themselves into the contest.

Eight of wands. Snap decisions and quick movements. If something did happen, it wouldn't be a slow burn, but rather something that happened in the blink of an eye.

The wands suit was also associated with fire, an idea that was not lost on the Director as he had pulled two of them in a row. Would the ball catch aflame, perhaps? He made a mental note to review any dry leaves or open flames when he arrived tomorrow.

Aulis took a last sip of his tea and looked down at the leaves, turning and tilting his head from side to side in an attempt to read the shapes within. Unfortunately, he was not so skilled at this as he was with tarot, and the Russian was so engrossed in his interpretation that he wouldn't hear anyone else enter.

unusual tides, ⚓︎⚓︎ perhaps bring us home ⚓︎⚓︎ or further out to sea

XXXXX𝔇esislava had chosen not to attend the Spring Ball. It was far too chaotic for her and she had enough socialization with the little gremlins she taught on the day to day. Aside from that, she was just tired. The months wre getting to her and she was ready for the end of the year to be here.

So in lieu of a party, she had opted for a self care night, locking herself in her bedroom with ocean sounds, a face-masks, and her favorite concoction of tea, hoping for a relaxing evening that was simply by herself and without distraction or pressure to "predict someone's lovelife." Around this time of the year, the girls loved to bombard her door with requests for love readings, and soulmate sketches, and everything in between from here to the Other world and whether or not she could tell them exact information.

That wasn't how life or love worked. At some point during the week leading up to the ball, she had resorted to sleeping in Hogsmeade, trekking too and from her tower every morning, every evening, just to avoid the constant pressure to predict something.

While she didn't mind teaching, she wished that her Seer powers would come and go from her life. It would mean she could absolutely just lie to her students when they asked her for answers as opposed to crushing their spirits. It didn't feel good to do so, but then again having her Seer abilities had never felt good. In fact, they had been the cause of one of her worst friendship losses.

As Desislava sunk agains the chaisse-lounge against the window, she thought about Koldovstoretz. She didn't often think about the school itself, but she couldn't help it sometimes. In her youth, before she had escaped to the Island of Divination, she had been enrolled in the Siberian school. To tell you the truth, she'd loved it there. She'd loved the people she met and the way that her education had flourished under the early admittance program for pre-school aged children. Her oldest brother, Hristofer had been her rock, making sure that she could keep up with him even if she sometimes annoyed the bejeezus out of him. He'd called her "tag-a-long" for her inability to stay separated from him outside of school. Her first true school year, Desi had been glued to her brother's side and Hristofer, the gentle but fed-up brother that he was had introduced her to his friend and classmate, Aulis Vorozheykin.

The older student was popular, far more-so than herself and her brother. Aulis in his kindness had allowed Desislava to be part of his popularity and though she'd been younger than him, more immature, and not as interesting, Aulis had allowed her to be his friend. For two years the closeness between them surpassed merely friends, and become something akin to pseudo-siblings. Aside from Hristofer, Aulis was who she turned to when she was sad. Or when she needed company. Always being obliged and never being turned away by the self-proclaimed Seer King.

But all of that had changed when her Sight had manifested in the Izba one winter morning.

She'd been feeling strange all morning as they sat at their group table. Aulis was holding court as he always did, in that kingly way he always did. Hristofer kept trying to get her to eat, gently pushing porridge at her but all she'd done was shake her head and shove her hands into her hair as thoughts, visions and pictures swirling through her eyes. There was fire, a dark red stain across Terra and the sounds of wailing. How could there be wailing if the sounds of the Izba were just of students eating.

And in a moment she lost the literal sight of those around her, the voices she knew warping and disorting until she couldn't hear anything.

When she came too she was on the floor being fanned by one of the girls in their group as Hristofer was dragging a Vedka over to her, frantic and beside himself. The sounds of the dining hall were finally quiet. The eyes of the students were on her as she came to see the swarm of panicked, frightened individuals staring down at her. But the sharpest of glares belonged to Aulis.

He sat there at the head of their table in complete silence. Not moving and pretensiously angry. Through her Sight's manifestation, she had unknowingly tipped the balance of care away from her.

From that point on, Desislava had been separated from the other students until the transfer paperwork had gone through for Tenusa, and the school could wash her hands of her. But she'd tried to talk to Aulis- to ask him for help because he was also a Seer, and if anyone could help her with this awful experience she was forced to live with, it was him. But Aulis had shut her out completely condemming her to exile until her departure. Even across the ocean, Desislava had tried in vain to contact her older pseudo-brother. Every letter addressed to him was returned unopened and unnoticed. Many a night in her beach dormitory had she cried herself to sleep under the starry sky. Being a Seer, she'd never seen something so sad. Even now, nearly 30 years old, she still understood little to nothing about why he had dropped her from his life so suddenly upon her denotion as a Seer.

This was another reason she did not want to participate in the Spring Ball. She'd heard rumors that he was often in attendance, having assumed the head position of their Alma Mater and while she'd avoided him for the last two, there wasn't a promise that she would avoid him this time. So Desislava had hidden away in her tower, opting for self-care over self-despair.

It wasn't until she smelled the scent of tea that wasn't her own that she realized her night was not going to end by herself. Someone was in her tower and she prayed it wasn't a student. Desislava was known to not hand out detentions but if there was any trace of students from Year 1 to Year 7, she would see to it that they were writing lines for weeks. Was one night of uninterrupted peace too much to ask at this school.

Desislava grumbled to herself in a mix of Bulgarian and Tahitian as she donned her fuzzy teal and jaguar print robe, which complimented her matching pajama pants and tanktop. She slipped her feet into her soft seashell slippers, and tied her hair curlers up in a scarf. Smeared across her face was a homemade yogurt mask sans cucumbers as she needed to walk down her stairs, and by god who cared what she looked like?!

She wrenched her door open and in a huff, flounced over to the balcony already preparing a speech about disrespect to her classroom. But she stopped in her tracks as she noticed whom it was infiltrating her classroom and brewing his own tea.

"You must be incredibly lost." was all she said when she finally regained her voice, her arms crossing both defiantly and in a measure of protection.
