Emiline grinned as the other girl, Avery, accepted her request to join sketching together. She felt like this was the start of a long friendship, don't ask her why, just the gut feeling that this friendship would last a long time. I mean, the girl was willing to listen in the Christmas weather and willing to sit and sketch in this cold. Avery also suggested that they could go inside if the weather permitted more frigid temperatures. Thinking ahead. I like it.
Turning back to her small bag, she pulled out an extra hufflepuff scarf."I know you aren't a hufflepuff, but its bloody freezing out here and I think yellow would suit ya.... And I prefer sketching outside anyways" Emiline grins, a look often found upon her face when she wasn't brooding or upset. She shuffles slightly to the left, making more space on the wooden bench. "Come sit.. I think I have a space sketchpad in my bag." Emiline pulls her bag onto her lap and starts rummaging through it. A few moments pass until she pulls out a slightly crumpled pad. Then her hand goes deep into her bag and she pulls out a shortish pencil. "Here ya go," and the hufflepuff offers the sketching materials to the kind Gryffindor.
If she accepted, Emiline would bring one knee up and rest her foot on the bench as a make-shift resting point for her sketchpad, it also helped that it was a comfy position to sit in. She started humming under her breath, a subconscious habit she often forgot she did when she was focused on something. For some it would be sticking out their tongue, others pursing their lips, but for Emiline it was humming. As if the simple music could muffle any distractions. For her it did, and that allowed her to focus on the sketching, almost forgetting that she now had a friend sitting next to her. "Sooooo, what are you thinking of drawing? I'm gonna keep trying to draw that tree" The third year points to the semi-dead tree off to the left of the bench, about one-hundred metres away. She continues sketching, the sound of the wind, the birds and the quiet sound of their pencils scratching against the sketchpads. She glances back at Avery rather than her page, why was she nervous about this?

✽Avery smiled a small smile when Emiline offered to sketch outside. It was a beautiful cold day and it was perfect. Even if it was cold, Avery was glad to be outside. It was beautiful out and the perfect weather to spend outside. "Thank you." Avery smiled again. Though she wasn't a Hufflepuff, she gladly accepted the scarf and wrapped it tightly around her neck. It was cold enough that she would accept anything and the compliment Emiline had given warmed Avery's heart. The older girl was so sweet and caring. Avery loved that.
Avery walked over to where Emiline was sitting and happily accepted the sketchbook handed to her. Then came the hard part. What should she draw? There were so many things running in Avery's head that she didn't know what would be the perfect piece of art to make in Emiline's sketchbook.
"A tree? That will be amazing! I can't wait to see it! For me, though, well, I'm considering drawing a phoenix. I don't know why, but it just seems fitting, you know?"
Avery leaned herself against the tree and began to map out the phoenix. She had chosen in her head a design she believed would fit the space she had to draw best. ✽

Emiline grins as the lion accepts the badger scarf. "See I knew yellow would look good on you." She flicks the tassles at the end of the bright yellow scarf playfully.
She watched subtly as Avery pondered at what to draw. The way she knew that, was because she often pulled that exact same facial expression for the same reason. It was always a journey deciding what to sketch, one time she started off drawing a dress then ended up drawing a sketch of a wedding party. Its funny how those things turn out.
Em smiles softly as Avery accepts the sketchbook and sits down next to her. There is a slight radiation of heat between them as they are close, but not too close together.
"A phoenix? That's a challenge! Good luck, I'm sure you'll do amazing" She says confidently, despite not knowing the skill level of her new friend.
She leans slightly towards the Gryffindor to see how far into the sketch she is. She saw the common outline which most drawings start off, especially for more complex, skilled drawings. "Ooh idea! Either you could try to go more realistic or you could try for a cartoon version making it more simple but obviously cuter." She grins and takes note of the girl's peaceful posture, relaxed and leaning back against the tree trunk.
The wind starts to pick up and start trying to attack every piece of exposed skin and any and every loose piece of paper, making it slightly difficult to sketch without having to hold down each corner of paper to stop it flapping. "Wow... That wind is really picking up. I don't want to have to say this, but I think we'll need to go inside."

✽Avery smiled and looked down. She hadn't expected the sudden compliment. "Thank you. You look amazing in it too. You really do have the spirit of a Hufflepuff. The house suits you." It was true. Avery and Emiline had just barely met, but it felt like they had known each other a lifetime. It was easy to talk to Emiline. Then again, it was easy to talk to Hufflepuffs in general. Every Hufflepuff she had met was sweet, gentle, caring, and always put others needs above their own. She admired that in them and as a young lioness she too strived to be more like the badgers.
The phoenix was hard. Avery had never actually drawn nor seen a phoenix. She could only do the drawing from memory of the books her father used to read to her when she was a young girl. The books that told stories of the majestic phoenix and how after a phoenix died a new phoenix would hatch from the ashes. It was an incredible phenomenon of magic. Magic was wonderful and when used for good, something to admire.
There was also a danger to magic. The danger of taking too much power and using it for malicious deeds. Avery never wanted to do that. She wanted to use her skills for good, not things that hurt others.
"Thank you. You know? That cartoon sounds much easier. I think I'll go that route. Seems easy enough, eh?" Avery laughed lightly as she burrowed deeper into her warm winter clothes. It was getting colder, but Avery didn't mind. It was refreshing. A rush of fresh clear air into her lungs. Even if it was a biting wind.
Avery was buried into her work and had finally gotten a better general shape to the phoenix. She was contemplating on where to add shadowing when Emiline spoke up. The older girl mentioned that the wind was picking up and they may have to get inside. Avery at that moment realized the older girl was right. The wind had begun to pick up, and she could see dark winter clouds brewing just over the horizon. A storm was coming.
"You're right. Looks like a storm is picking up. The moment you're ready, I'll rush indoors with you and together we can finish our sketches if you'd like." Avery smiled. She was really enjoying her time with Emiline. The older girl had a calming presence to her that Avery felt she could trust the girl.
Turning back to her sketch, Avery get herself out of her head. She would be ready in a moment's notice if it came down to the wire of running indoors. She would also keep her word of finishing the sketches up together inside if Emiline so wished. A good friend would do just that, and Avery was trying as best she could to be as good of a friend as she possibly could to Emiline and everyone else she came across. Regardless of who they were and what they had done. ✽
