A deep, stuttered breath left Logan’s lungs as she breathed in the humid air, watching the detention group as they scattered to do their own thing. Her boots crunched against the ground as her weight shifted to the left.

The seventh year had considered partnering up with one of the people closest to her, but the boy seemed to be a bit occupied at the moment. It was rather startling, actually, the boy suddenly hanging by his ankles, calling out for help. It was his own fault, he should not have disrespected the Headmaster. Logan chose to ignore the calls for help, slightly concerned on how he knew her name, but would worry about that at a later time. For now, she was going to find something to do, maybe the boy could work with her later.

Glancing at the other students, the Hufflpeuff finally decided to take action and move towards a section to work. Was this something she was interested in doing? No. But the faster she got to work, the faster she could make her way back into the school to cuddle with Alby.

The girl was not paying attention to the happenings around her as she moved, her focus on her destination and the of rumbling thunder in the distance. Her boots scuffed in the dirt as she went. Pulling her hair out of her face with a band, she made her way to the section she would probably work in. Gloves would have been helpful, but it was too late now. There was no way she was getting back into the school to attempt to retrieve them.

Avery noticed something off with Mikey. He seemed. . . distant. As if something was bothering him. Every few seconds Avery would steal a glance at him and watch as he looked towards the woods before looking away again. Something was up. She could also feel it deep within her bones. Then again, the forest always gave her a bad feeling. There was just something about it that reminded her of danger and dangerous times in her life. She didn't know what to expect in there. In a matter of moments, things could go from bad, to worse.

Avery smiled weakly as she tried not to gag on the stench before her. Something awful was fermenting beneath the foliage. Probably rotted plants that hadn't been touched in who knew how long. That was what it seemed like. Of course detention with Headmaster Lear of Hogwarts would be worse than any other detention. Considering there were eighty students milling around to complete the task, that just made it ever so slightly more bearable.

"I feel the same way. Without you here, well, I don't think I would be here surviving to tell teh tale. That stench. . . it's nauseating. I think tonight is probably the best night to skip dinner and just go to bed." Avery laughed nervously. Her stomach churning.

Seriously. What was that smell? It was complete torture. Was this supposed to be the point of the detention? Sort through the weak ones and remind people to never want to break the rules again? Well, that was what it felt like. Avery would never forget this. It was all too much. Too horrifying and embarrassing to live down.

Avery took a deep breath and let it out slowly. The stench still taking up most of her senses and making her think less clearly. But the work had to be done. There was no way she was spending the night in this part of the Grounds just to finish the job started that morning. No. She wouldn't survive that long. She would barely survive just the day.

Avery pulled the dragonhide gloves tighter to her skin then she got to word next to Mikey uncovering the markers that were broken into pieces. Wow. This was going to be a pain to repair.

She began to pull through layer after layer of wet rotting plants and foliage. What had she been thinking in trying to steal potions ingredients, for what? to get some extra study time in? She should have just asked the professor for help instead of taking things into her own hands. She had learned the hard way over and over again that nothing went according to plan when she did something alone. She usually had to have help. And lots of it.

Avery glanced over to the other students as she worked. Most seemed to still be milling around while others were getting themselves in the muck and working hard pulling the foliage and dead plants away from the markers. Everything seemed somewhat normal, but Avery knew well enough that normal never stayed normal for long. It was only a matter of time before something went very bad very quickly.

"Well, yes. For some reason right now I feel something staring at me. Not Headmaster Lear, but something else? I know, I probably sound crazy, but I just have this bad feeling that we're being watched right at this moment." Avery sighed and turned back to her work.

It didn't help that Headmaster Lear got to enjoy himself and observe with a drink of who knew what in hand and a chair that looked like it came straight from the beach. He looked as if he was enjoying a happy and relaxing day at the beach instead of watching over eighty students in detention. Wow. This day was getting better and better.

@Kaito Foxglove @Costanza Jewelweed @Jessamine Hemlock
A Saturday in June
Easy silence settled between Pyxis and Kaito. If the latter responded, Pyxis would hum some noise of acknowledgment back and focus on gathering the dead branches around their area. The lad knew Kaito wasn’t a talker, and in the early hours of that morning, neither was Pyxis. This was going to be a long day. Might as well not annoy anyone with useless chatter. Perhaps chatter was the thing that could’ve distracted the snake when Costanza walked past him and Kaito, giving a nod of greeting to Pyxis’ companion and sparing none for Pyxis himself. He faltered, pausing so suddenly that a few branches shook free from the pile he was carrying. So that’s how it’s going to be.

Well, he could ignore her too. It would have been easier if she hadn’t decided on picking a work area close by, however. The silence went from easy to tense, though Pyxis was sure it was only like that for him. Kaito didn’t seem like the type to dawdle on his own emotions like Pyxis was, and the snake was infinitely jealous of that. His fingers were weak as he moved around, peeking at Costanza out of the corner of his eye every time he stooped down to pick up another branch. Ignore. Ignore. Ignore. His voice echoed loudly within his mind, but he couldn’t help but ignore that instead.

Pyxis’ knight in lazy armor came in the form of Jessamine. Ah yes, a friend who was never awkward around him, but who had the uncanny talent of turning any situation messy. He remembered her accusation at the ball last year about him… liking Costanza. It was made in jest and vehemently denied, but Pyxis couldn’t stop the blush that arose along with the memory. Thankfully, Jessamine’s lack of a filter was turned on the Hufflepuff for now, so Pyxis gave her a wave and wandered closer to Kaito to avoid any chaos she might try to start.

The rotting stench became stronger as he did so, and he looked down at the area Kaito had cleared to find what was undoubtedly the source of the stink. It wasn’t as bad as back then, but the familiarity immediately resonated with him, both in scent and appearance.

“Oh gosh, not these things again,” Pyxis recoiled, disgusted by the sight of them. The pile of branches he’d been carrying was left on the ground next to him. He’d tied his jacket around his waist before getting to work, and now he moved the item of clothing around his face, tying the sleeves at the back of his head so that the length of the fabric covered his mouth and nose. He tucked the loose bit into the collar of his shirt. The young lad was sure that he looked ridiculous, but he didn’t care. Those fungi were no joke. “I better take care of these before they spread like last time,” he told Kaito, before getting closer and stooping. Oh yeah, these are the same as before. I thought we got rid of all these suckers.

Pyxis wondered if there was a season that allowed these mushrooms to flourish. Warm weather was a safe bet for its ideal conditions. The first time he encountered them was barely a month into his first year when the leaves were just beginning to turn. They dotted the grounds and the professor had offered students a house point to help clear them away. She even sent older students into the Forbidden Forest too. Pyxis assumed that the myconids took all summer to spread, so nipping these early clusters would probably benefit… well, everyone as no one would have to put up with the horrifying stench they emanated once mature.

Driving his shears into the dirt around one of the larger mushrooms, he attempted to loosen the soil at its base. It wasn’t the best tool for the job, but it was all he had on hand, and he wasn’t about to whip his wand out like someone across the way who was asking for trouble by casting a fire spell. Just like years ago, he avoided looking at the red pustules, afraid that he would lose his dinner from last night in front of his friends. That’s still going to be on the table if this thing’s got another poor creature tangled in its roots. He recalled how difficult it was to rip the thing out of the ground, so he braced himself, pulling his gloves on a little tighter, and grabbed the base of the stalk once he was satisfied with the work he’d done with his shears.

And then Pyxis pulled as hard as he could.

"Wingardium Leviosa." she said as she pointed her wand at the branches, likely from the past storm

Bluntly said and monotone Angel looked at her shadow. Frowned, disappointed many people were here. If anything she'd expected less but she can only see that in her own hopes and dreams. Counting on those two. The sooner the grounds get fixed the better. Headmaster looked like he's been enjoying this but maybe not, some of these kids look like they could care less.

Walking around looking over at the others. The faces she can recognized were right inside this area with her.

Nabi Park, a girl who Aamon knew back at the Spring Ball. Looked the same as always to Angel. Never has that weird and eerie stare fazed her, but whatever she did got her here immediately. Dido Bleaklane, roommate. Teammate for the Labyrinth, seemed much different and somehow she got here, poor lass. Blair Annabelle Du Pont, tempered and extremely irritated at anyone, staying clear she noticed her partner was Sebastien, he's got a handful already despite being in here that's for sure. Speaking of him, met at the Hogwarts Train, nice and centered lad, whatever happened probably was caught in crossfire. Skylar Blue, Mikaela Hendricks, Ophelia Vanderbilt, all acquaintances but who knows if they're going to be allies. Andrea Woodsburn and Tina Carille, both Ravenclaws extremely friendly, studious. Maybe, they surely didn't expect their Saturday to be a weekday. Paul Turner, Erast Yan, and Jada Blake all people she met at the Spring Ball events. Livia Machavariani, a girl she met at the Lavatory, interesting. Tatiana Contraire, red team member for the Field Day.

Oh goodness was everyone here rich, studious and full of decorum, who was caught in the actions and bitter? Riddikulus she'd say riddikulus! Angel shook her head, the fact most were making up of Slytherin. Not surprised. Her house was not making an effort were they? Another thing to add was, most of them were acquaintances of hers some further as friends. That's something worth mentioning. Honestly, Angel might be rethinking her relationships now. Looking over at Charlotte and Cecilia, they will do, maybe have a bit of street smarts in them but she can only assume.

Angel was on guard but she can still relax for a bit. Sometimes being the clouds and going with the flow, that's her style but if only she had that type of luxury now. But knowing where she is, she might need to put that straight Os in Herbology in use, maybe her knowledge of plants overall can help her, she was outside and it can be dangerous. Did the others know they can't be reckless? One can see.

Dido grabbed my hand and comforted me about leaving her. I still felt really really bad though. It was nice hearing her laugh at my joke about Headmaster’s drink. I would have to say, most people outside with me would definitely agree with me. But Dido looked very concerned when i asked the question. I bit my lip. Tell her shes your best friend here. I told myself. “Tina don’t- you are ok! You’re the most wonderful friend- and everyone gets a detention every once in a while! Think of it as part of the Hogwarts experience.” Dido said supportively. It wasn’t the detention, it felt good knowing that I was a good friend. ”Dido...Its not the detention.” I started, I took in a deep shaky breath before continuing. ”It’s just I'm sick of pretending everything's ok when it isn’t. Everyone thinks i’ve got this perfect life. Knowing answers and all of that stuff. But honstly Dido, I don't think I'm good enough to be a witch.” I let that last part resonate with me. Because, I really, truly believed it. More tears started coming. ”Thats how I landed here in the first place. I’m not a good enough witch to fly. That's why I took a school broom and tried to practice. That's how I was caught and sent to detention. Because i’m not a good enough witch.” I suddenly perked up. It felt nice that I wasn’t doing this alone. I popped into my usual bubbly persona. ”Lets go follow that man.” I said to Dido. I looked around, hoping that I could somehow, here, prove my worth. I spotted a strange looking man. I started to go over and investigate. This was going to be interesting…

Fawkes had to do a double take to make sure she had heard Aislin properly. A duelling captain, got detention for duelling outside of the duelling club. Well damn. She mumbled to herself.

As they began their work she watched her partner pick up the smaller branches. She followed her lead but not before attempting to move some of the bigger branches out of the way first. She was able to move a few but most were too heavy for her to move so she just left them to the side and focused on the smaller branches.

What do they do with the sticks? I mean I'd presume the logical explanation would be firewood. Although some of these don't catch easily so I'm not too sure. She examined a few of the sticks she picked up. Sure enough few of them were too damp to light they would have to be dried out first. Not her problem as of now however, her job was simply to clear the path.

She felt a shiver down her back at the mention of giant spiders. Normal spiders? Perfectly fine, she had pulled multiple out of her cupboards over the years. Giant spiders on the other hand-

I hope we don't run into any, who knows what might happen if we do. She replied.

She noticed Aislin it up to stare in another direction. She followed her gaze only to see someone attempting to cast Incendio Tria. Now while she hadn't learnt about the spell in class, become Duelling captain meant she had to learn about a good chunk of the spells taught in the upper years. Incendio Tria being one of them. Oh dear... She said to herself looking worried. Isin't that spell like incredibly powerful? She asked looking at Aislin. With the amount of fuel with the dead leaves and dry branches, he's gonna start a forest fire at this rate.

By now there was a slight hint of panic in her voice. Well, there were multiple older students here who could help put out a forest fire but still, it was very dangerous. Shouldn't someone stop him before the forest lights ablaze? She said before attempting to make a move to stop him.
Action: Working with Aislin before watching Archer cast Incendio Tria and moving towards him.

Reyna had attempted to be kind and friendly to this new girl. Isabeau. Right that was her name. Clearly, kindness wasn't the key. Reyna shook her head as Isabeau met her words with sarcasm. Yes, maybe her statement had been obvious. But she been trying to fill the silence. That counted for something.
The girl at least offered her name. Reyna had to admit the name was very pretty: elegant, flowy charming. But the girl was quite the opposite. No formalities, no polite small talk. Just a blunt: "What did you do?"
Reyna followed Isabeau as they moved towards the wardline. It was a fair question. What had Reyna done to end up in her first detention after four years? And why had she done it? There were certain questions that Reyna just could not answer, because even she didn’t know the answer herself.
“Selling fake permission forms,” she sighed, “In my defense, I think the rule of only being allowed to go to Hogsmeade in your third year and up is stupid. I’m positive every first and second year has snuck in.”
Reyna made sure the words were just loud enough so Isabeau could hear but not anyone else, or the Headmaster. She didn’t want a double detention. But her words remained true. Reyna wasn’t one to break rules. But she had broken that one in her second year. Thankfully she had not been caught.
She turned her head slightly back to Isabeau, before picking up some gloves and slowly sliding them on her hand. The gloves were not comfortable and they were not pretty either. But they would suffice.
“What about you? What did you do?” Reyna asked. She reached down, dragging some of the branches from the wardline into a stack. The tedious task was not fun. There were mushrooms to pick, weeds to pull, branches to move and millions of debris on the ground. These tasks would take forever. And with over 70 reckless kids, there was no way this was going to end well. Being near the Forbidden Forest was an even worse of an idea. Reyna had heard of all the stories. The people who had attempted to sneak in, well that never ended well.
Reyna turned around scanning the grounds wondering if she knew anyone here. Her friends wouldn't be at detention right? She didn't notice @Linda Ramirez her best friend but maybe she was there. With so many people it was hard to tell. But what caught her eye was something more pressing.
A boy, @Archer Duncan was standing pretty close to the border near the forbidden forest, wand in hand. A fire was crackling beside him. Yes it was a controlled fire, for now. But it was also a fire. And they were currently standing on dead branches and weeds. Literal fuel. That was a recipe for disaster.
“Um…” Reyna nudged Isabeau, pointing to the fire, “Yeah, I’m not sure what his plan is over there happening over there. But given we’re surrounded by fuel, I’m pretty sure that’s a recipe for disaster.”
Reyna had hoped to not get burned, again, or have a near encounter with death, again, but it seemed her luck was dry. Here she was again, standing in the midst of chaos and Reyna had a feeling it would only get worse from here.
Wanting to finish the tasks as quickly as possible, Reyna began moving another set of branches to the pile being made. There had to be a more efficient way to do this. Looking around once again, she realized some other students were using the levitating spell to move the branches. Smart.
Reyna drew her hand and pointed at the next set of branches. "Wingardium Leviosa!" she casted on the branches, hoping her spell would work. She really did not want to spend the day hand moving branches until her hands cramped and her back ached. At least this would hopefully make it faster.

Isabeau listened to Reyna speak without interruption, which for her, was considered engagemnet. She hummed in acknowlegement when Reyna admitted she had sold fake permission slips to younger students like herself. Seems the two were in similar buisness.

"It is a poorly structured rule." She admitted to the older girl, her tone even as she reached upwards, her shears slicing cleanly through the overgrowth. Each movement of the shears was deliberate and efficeient. For a moment, the sound of her shears snipping away filled the silence, until her own question was shot back at her.

"It seems,", she began, almost idly,"that selling exam answers is not considered a contribution to academic success." If there was annoyance in her reply, it didn't linger enough to matter.

The nudge pulled her attention sideways, her gaze following Reyna's gesture. Isabeau couldn't help but find a small smirk pulling her lips upward as her eyes settled on the fire and the boy. "A disaster," she started a faint trace of amusement in her voice, "with potential."

Maybe the boy was burning away all of the overgrowth, which in hindsight, was quite clever. The flames would do the work for him. Or perhaps, he was attempting to set the whole wardline on fire. If so, she wondered if they would get lucky enough to be released early.

Isabeau turned her focus back towards the overgrown greenery, registering Reyna's use the levitating charm in the background. Another clever move to make things more efficient. Isabeau's eyes flicked over to Reyna once more, brief and deliberate. A soft breath left her. At least she knew now her partner wasn't completely incompetent.

A moment of thought later, and she had an idea. Efficency would make this daunting task much easier, and clearing everything manually, was not ideal.

Her tone was calm as she spoke her idea to Reyna, her words more like an order than a proposal. "I'll clear from above," a motion with her shears towards the overgrowth puncuated her statement. "You move it." A motion to the debris Reyna had already begun to move.

The Ravenclaw's light blue eyes flickered from Nabi's face over to Matthew's, the boy she still believed had cursed them all with poison ivy and, in association, ruined the pillow her Grandmother had given her. She rushed towards the pair before they could promise to be buddies or form some other magical friendship that she couldn't be apart of. She and Nabi had just spend an evening complaining about men, no way in hell was she being stolen by one.

... And now he was asking her how her honeymoon went? Dear Merlin. A flash of thoughts that cannot be written on this site came to mind, and she felt her cheeks burn. "Uh..." Her mind raced to come up with anything to tell the Slytherin, "I-It... It was nice, thanks. There were a lot of sites... A lot of new experiences."

The Ravenclaw turned towards Nabi, a slight frown tugging on her lips, "What is this about going into the forest?" Why did she have to say it so close to their headmaster? Was she trying to win them another detention? Winnie didn't have time for this! She had flowers to collect, poetry to write, and brooms to ride! Aly would murder her if she missed practice! "NOPE! No, no, no! No joking about death at the hands of the forest!"

She felt her shoulders relax upon the younger male's suggestion, "Agreed. We are here to serve our time, chop down some plants, and go back home. No new moon, no moving trees, no... Funny business." She wasn't certain if she was assuring her underclassmen or herself at this point.

Winnie rolled up her sleeves to start working when she suddenly heard the voice of her older sister behind her. She whipped her head around so fast that, should he choose not to move, her ponytail smacked Matthew directly in the face, leaving him with a nose-full of strawberry and copper curls.

She froze, her heart leaping in her throat as she clung onto her pair of funky pink garden shears. "E-Evie... I was just..." Long gone was the confidence she had just moments before when lecturing her two lowerclassmen. Instead, her head drooped down, like a guilty dog about to be scolded by its master. "T-That is to say, I just... I..."

Her shoulders slumped forward, "I didn't mean to get detention! I was just trying to cheer Nabi up!" She worried her lower lip between her teeth, a bad habit she had picked up when she was younger, "T-There may have been some candles and chanting, some ill wishes towards a boy... It looked way worse than it actually was."

She risked a glance upwards, her eyes pleading Evelynn, "Please don't tell mum-- Wait, what did you do to get detention??" Her brows furrowed as she thought about it. Evelynn wouldn't do something stupid on purpose, so whatever she had received detention for must have been worth it.

From the corner of her eye, she caught a flash of a familiar face. Her blue eyes lit up when she saw Marshal standing further back. It had been a while since she'd seen him, he had always been kind to her. Pushing onto her tip toes, she waved excitedly over to him, "Hi Marshmellow! I like the new hair!" She then gestured for him to come closer to their group, completely unaware of any animosity between he and Evelynn.

"Oh!" The Ravenclaw chirped, clapping her hands together once, "I almost forgot to introduce Evie to you guys!" Turning back towards Evelynn, she gestured proudly towards her half-sibling, "Nabi, Matthew, this is my sister, Evelynn!"

Once she had finished her introduction, she turned to the direction of a nearby scrub, "Now that we all know each other... What do you say we get rid of this shrub so we can get out of here?"

As if the situation couldn't get any worse a familiar voice would then fill his ear. Harvey turned, his defeated expression mustering just enough energy for an eyeball when his gaze landed on Denise Yarbrough. Yes, he had scammed her, but only a little damnit! The loan he had given her came with terms that weren't in her favor. That didn't mean that the coins Harvey handed over were fake. They'd spend just as well as any others. It wasn't his fault that Camille was terribly distracting and she didn't read the fine print. His arms crossed his chest. As deflating as this morning was shaping up to be he was not going to just roll over. "As I have explained to you many times now, Denise. You agreed to the loan terms, deal with it!"

Harvey planned to spin on the spot and walk off. Argument over, but as he did so he'd be met with the site of a giant boy dangling in the air by his ankle. Merlin was he loud! Why must everyone disturb him so! The boy clearly had giant blood running through his veins judging by the size of him, but Harvey had had enough of this damn morning and walked right up to dingleberry! "Perhaps if you would stop shouting at the Headmaster you wouldn't have found yourself in such a position?" Harvey chastised the other boy like a nagging mother. Even poking the giant in the chest with his gloved fingers to drive the point home. He planned to simply just walk away, but surely it wouldn't be that easy...
