While the others are doing their job by fixing the grounds. Angel had notice another presence getting inside. Gothic and rather a bold look to her. She remembered seeing her in Hogsmeade too. Perhaps she got caught along with them. Looking intrigued she wanted to ask her name.
"Hey, I'll be right back m'kay? Just stay put!" she said as she walked away from them further
Angel was quite a fearless person so no matter how scary or bold a person looked, she never faltered. This can be said with how calm she still was. Even with people who had a odd presentation. A few steps behind she was behind the girl. Tapping her shoulder she stepped back and spoke.
"Hey, name's Angel. Angel Dayes. What's your name? Did you also got caught sneaking in Hogsmeade?" she asked with a more elegant and rich tone
It was commonplace for Angel to speak with elegance and resonance. Many people had been shocked to hear her voice deep while others thought hers was more crisp and lighter. But it was her natural voice. Others thought it was comforting or warm like the trees bathed in the sun. In hopes of getting to know people, she decided to go with this girl first.

"Wow, why would you have done that?" Rosie asked, caught off guard by her friend's bluntness and reasoning for this horrible and messy fate, forgetting to catch herself. You see, she was typically rather good at holding her tongue. She kept all of her more negative comments to herself, and that was what had allowed her to have so many friends and acquaintances. But, in that moment, frustrated over the task ahead and the fact that she'd gotten detention despite not truly doing anything wrong(or at least, not meaning to), had stolen away all of the filters she usually had placed on her words.
"Whoa, sorry about that! I'm just a bit frustrated, didn't mean to sound rude. But is there a particular reason you vandalized the portraits of the fancy people from the past, or did you just feel like it?" she asked, hoping that it came across a bit more polite the second time.
"I mean, to be fair, I'm not a huge fan of History of Magic myself. So many names and dates, and I don't even have background knowledge to go off of! I could tell you all about nearly any sort of Muggle history, but magical? That's something I'm having to learn from the ground up." Rosie said. Some of the others really did have a leg up, having known at least a little bit about the history of the world from growing up hearing of it, while she knew literally nothing besides what the class taught her, which was...difficult for her.
Ever since Rosalyn was rather young, she'd prided herself on her academic abilities. Good at maths, and writing, and so many other subjects, she got used to being near the top of her classes and not having to put in too much effort to learn things. Now, she was doing relatively well at Charms, Potions, and Herbology, but not quite at things like History of Magic, or Defense Against the Dark Arts. She didn't even have background information of what in the world she was supposed to be defending herself against, except what she learned!
Whoa, Rosie, snap out of it, she thought, realizing that she was about to reach the point where her zoning out would be considered rude rather than thoughtful. Good thing for her, she was a relatively quick thinker, and could listen to the rest of Lauren's sentences while thinking things through.
"Ugh, those two. Of course I remember, they're the ones that snitched to your awful parents about you being a Slytherin, right?" she asked, wanting to confirm that she still was remembering things correctly.
"Oh, that makes sense. Anger can make it pretty hard to resist impulses, can't it?" she asked, having her previous question answered for her. She fully understood Lauren's struggle, and the following anger. Well, she herself didn't often get angry(or at least seem like it), but she was still empathetic enough to get it.
"I really am not looking forward to doing this." Rosie said, letting herself have just another moment of annoyance at the tasks ahead, and how much of her day would be lost to them.
I mean, honestly, why do I have to do the detention? I literally just got lost!

x | ENGLISH | FRENCH |

Detention. What a strange concept. Less than a month remained until graduation. During her years as prefect, many a rulebreaker had been caught, justice doled out for their infractions. One might even have called such efforts hypocritical given how many times the justacier had functioned beyond the scope of the very rules enforced. Treks to the library after curfew, visits to the dungeons, spell use beyond the supervision of more responsible individuals, excursions into the Forbidden Forest, visits to Hogsmeade before third year...These represented only a portion of everything Evelynn had done that could have--and perhaps should have--warranted retribution. And yet, she had never been on the receiving end of the very punishments she had served.
Until now, that was.
When her name had echoed through the hall, the deep resonance interceding upon her path midflight, she'd nearly careened over the front of her broom's silver handle in an effort to pull up in time to avoid the figure. She supposed, reflecting back upon the situation, that she must have thought the man to be one of the patrolling suits of armour. Even in the moment, it took her a few seconds to accept that it was indeed the Headmaster himself who had caught her in her illicit flight within the castle walls. Aside from the opening feast at the beginning of the year, she could probably count on one hand the number of times she'd seen the man. To be addressed by him directly was nothing short of a shock to the system. After the initial surprise, however, she could only shrug and concede her guilt.Reason for detention: d20[7] = Broom racing indoors
It was amusing, in a way. Of all her nefarious acts, that it should be flying through the halls to land her into trouble seemed so... underwhelming. Really, it was their own fault. Sure, it was entirely reasonable for the castle and grounds to be enveloped in an anti-apparition charm, but without the ability to tap into such convenience she had come to grow so accustomed, flight was the next best option. NEWTs were upon them, afterall. Every moment mattered and the castle was just so... large. Not to mention how easily congested the hallways became with younger students milling about, or how inconvenient it could be when recognized. It was almost easier to deflect spells than their incessantly nosy questions.
Nevertheless, deserved or not, Evelynn dutifully reported to the edge of the Forbidden Forest at the crack of dawn, a myriad of thoughts racing through her mind as she made the trek across the grounds. Why the Forbidden Forest, she had to wonder? Had it been any other professor or prefect, suspicions may not have run quite so rampant. But seeing as this was Headmaster Lear, he who had gone missing in a still unresolved mystery (as far as she knew) that spanned back to her first years at the school and referenced Umbridge, whose "death" (Evelynn was still unconvinced) had been witnessed by those known to have been embroiled in hag affairs, she couldn't help feel as though this wasn't some mundane affair of a detention.
Given that, and given how greatly she had regretted her casual approach during the mystery of the missing Gryffindor house cup just prior to the Winter holidays (to say nothing of how she hadn't the faintest idea if the Wampus Cat that had nearly killed her at the edge of the forest previously), the seventh year senior would come overprepared, her well-worn and trusted leather satchel slung over one shoulder. Enchanted for extra volume, she would come prepared with the basic necessities: Silver Arrow with attached compass, cloak of camouflage, wizard's camera, some empty vials for sample collection if necessary, and what she would consider the most necessary first-aide potions (antidotes for common and uncommon potions, black fire potion, blood replenishing potion, and essence of dittany). She had long ago learned that one could never be too careful.
What she was not at all expecting, however, was to find that she would not be alone. Not in the least. Quite a number of students in various states of dress and alertness had already gathered under the watchful eyes of the Headmaster. Quite a number. As she drew nearer, the suspicion that had earlier taken root began to grow. It couldn't possibly be the case that everyone here was gathered for detention, surely... Even as the Headmaster began to explain the purpose as exactly that, Evelynn's doubt deepened. Most of the faces were unknown to her, children seven years her junior (Evelynn was eighteen now, after all) who would likely not have captured her attention beyond the sorting hat ceremony almost a year ago.
Yet, among them were a number of familiar individuals. Miss @Nabi Park had made an impression upon the elder at the Athanatos wedding the summer prior. She seemed to be speaking with @Matthew Campbell, a fellow Headliner. Nearby stood the Secretary of that very Newspaper, the young @Livia Machavariani. She also spotted @Damien Dragonclaw who had assisted with the summer camp organization; fellow seventh-years @Logan Baird and @Lindsey Springhall; broom racing Captain @Della Barfield; and the smart-dressing and polite @Prat Pass whom she had met flower-planting. She even caught sight of little @Aislin Durragh, the young Ravenclaw Duelling Co=Captain who had seemed rather awed during Evelynn's match against Slytherin earlier that year. All of this to say that a shocking number of those gathered were role-model students in positions of some authority among the various sports and student-run organizations. And somehow--somehow--they had all landed themselves in this detention, to be carried out simultaneously in what was apparently some sort of sweat-shop child labour camp.
That was when the bodies parted for just enough time for a flash of pink to catch the lioness's attention just as the Headmaster barked out the command for "Pairs". Heeled boots propelling her forward before conscious thought had taken root, Evelynn threaded her way through the crowd. Where deft weaving failed her, she would calmly order those in her way to, "Move."
(Feel free to have been one such individual told to get out of her way)
"Winnie!" Her voice carried ahead of her, heralding her arrival as she closed in on the copper-haired individual in pink overalls who could only be her sister, the Headmaster's explanation droning in the background. "Miss Park. Mister Campbell," she added when she had emerged from the crowd enough to see that Winnie was not alone, already in conversation with the pair. "Did you really get detention?" Evelynn wondered, returning her attention to the Ravenclaw, brow lofting curiously. It was a rhetorical question. She had a hard time picturing Winnie doing anything at all out of line. Still it begged an explanation, as Evelynn could easily have seen her sibling being tricked into a situation at the hands of another. "How did you manage that?"
For now, the knocking in the distance would go unnoticed, drowned out by the din of conversation surrounding them. But the treeline wouldn't. Wary of what lay within, Evelynn's gaze rarely strayed from the dense forest for long. Even as she offered her greetings and questioned the newlywed now-Athanatos, her scrutinizing gaze panned frequently over to the trees, flicking to any strange movement, squinting into the shadows. Morning or otherwise, she didn't trust the forest. And she certainly didn't trust the young pupils surrounding them not to try something stupid.

Colin smirked.
Apart from the humidity and the promise of excessive heat, it had been a good morning thus far! Quite a few kids had been grumbling and whinging about this morning, but Colin had just shrugged. Detention in the morning? they had complained. Colin just smiled. Detention at quarter of six in the morning!? they had emphasised. Colin just smiled. He'd smiled softly as he left Regulus dorm a little after four for his morning run.
The common room had been cool and silent as he padded through its dimly lit expanse. The windows were dark and reflected the wan light. Nothing was to be seen in the inky black of the lake. Soon enough, Colin would be swimming in those same waters. But! There was an early morning run with Liam waiting for him! These were the best hours of the day, as far as Colin was concerned. The Sun wasn't yet up. The grasses were cool and damp against his legs and feet. They laughed and chased each other all up and down the undulating grounds of Hogwarts, pausing only for a bit of a backhold before resuming the chase!
They never said a word to each other. They didn't have to! To anyone looking on, they would wonder what was going on! The pair somehow knew which way the other would go and when to turn! Were they even chasing each other, or were they after some wee beastie scurrying away in the high grass? It was almost as if they were talking without actually speaking. The only sounds they made were an occasional burst of laughter or a squeak of delight!
And at last they parted.
"Well, have some good craic oot here Cail!" Liam said to his twin, throwing his arm around Colin's shoulder. "Mind ye, I'm glad I did me detention yesterday!"
Colin sighed. "I still can't believe Rigel gave us a detention. Us! We're his own brothers!" complained Colin.
"Well, lad, we were flying aboot his aerie up on the Stronomy Tower. That might have had something to do with it I reckon," Liam said thoughtfully.
"I reckon. Anyway," Colin said; "I'm sure Headmaster Lear will be heading down here soon, and I want to get in a quick dip before the pronouncement of doom falls on us all!"
"Aye!" Liam replied. He checked his pocket watch. "Half five, lad! Ye'd best make it quick!" The pair bumped hips before heading in their different directions, Colin down the lake, Liam back the castle.
EMMI! EMMI! EMMI!
EMMI! EMMI! EMMI!
Colin smirked as he saw the gathering students. His shirt and kilt were damp, his messy hair still dripping water. Surely given the intensifying humidity, he's never get much drier! He loped along the last few yards towards where everyone was gathering. He wondered why the morning was still dark. Surely the Sun should be up by now? Looking up, the sky answered him by revealing banks of low slung clouds. Colin hoped it would rain! There was hardly anything better than being outside in the rain! Colin breathed in deeply, the distinct scent of future rain in the air! He began to whistle a merry tune as he greeted his fellow captives.
He saw a familiar face. Fellow fifth year Ebony Vetra. Not a friend exactly. They were in some classes together but had literally never talked. He trotted over and stood next to her as Headmaster Lear messed around with his battered leather bag. "Fancy meeting ye here lass!" He gave her a quick bow. "Colin, at yer service!" He lowered his voice. "Say, this isn't about that crazy occult stunt of yers, is it? I saw the flyers!" Of course, he'd seen the invitation. Everyone had. Colin didn't go though, preferring not to mess with that kind of thing, but quite a few kids seemed excited to see what she'd get up to. Some sort of performance, if he understood right. He shook his head and smiled softly. "I reckon the only thing conjured up was the ghost of detention on a beautiful morning like this!"
A rumble of distant thunder resounded softly.
"Coo, maybe it'll rain after all!" he said excitedly. "I got nabbed by Professor McCoire racing Liam around the Stronomy Tower on a totally borrowed school broom! I reckon he didn't appreciate how skillfully we whizzed around all the telescopes!" He rolled his eyes. He and Liam definitely had to plan a little prank on their big brother!
Headmaster Lear addressed the assembly then. He seemed worn out. Well, more worn out than usual. "Pairs," he said. Uh oh, Colin thought. I hope he doesn't make us wear buddy shirts! "Clear debris from the wardline and stack anything usable near the trail markers. Stay where I can see you."
Colin blinked as dragon hide gloves and actual mechanical shears were casually tossed towards the waiting kids. He picked up the ones that landed near him. "You are not here to socialize. You are not here to explore. You are absolutely not to enter the Forbidden Forest under any circumstance."
He gave Ebony a quick glance. "Was that an invitation to explore in the Forbidden Forest or what!" he said softly. "Er. Wanna enjoy the misery with me?" he asked. Clipping dead twigs and things would definitely be easier with someone to chat with or even just endure the torture with!
Colin's sensitive ears picked up a bit more than just the expected moans and groans of a bunch of kids forced into manual labour. Twasn't the thunder. Did it come from within the woods? Out here it wasn't loud, and Colin wasn't even entirely sure if he'd actually heard anything or not. Like something striking wood. A thocking sound. "Did ye hear that?" he said in whisper. Probably no one heard his question either. That was queer. He looked towards Headmaster Lear, now stretched out in his armour on a mechanical chair with a pineapple in his hand. Must be something Muggle, Colin thought. It didn't look like the Headmaster heard anything, so Colin set the thought aside.

Detention Detail
Detention wasn’t new for Silas. It meant nothing to him anymore and hardly deterred his rule-breaking and general misbehaviour. When you go through something enough times, you get used to it. It all just blurred together at this point. But what Silas wasn’t quite used to yet was the… flexibility allowed in Hogwarts detentions. Normally, it was the same old shit — write words, promise not to do whatever it was again, sit in a boring room without music, et cetera et cetera — but Hogwarts seemed to allow for different approaches. Silas hadn’t yet decided how he felt about that.
There were numerous times where he simply wouldn’t show up for a detention. Yes, it got him in more trouble, but he cared so little. Originally, he hadn’t planned to make an appearance at today’s detention, either, especially considering that it was on a weekend and early in the morning. Anyone who knew him understood that Silas was most certainly not a morning person. Today, though, he had happened to be awake. Nightmares, as usual, plagued him and would not leave him alone. They had been particularly pervasive and even worse than they normally were, and they had forced Silas to entirely give up on sleep. He needed a distraction — and, likely, being around people would help with that — and where else was he going to get that before six in the morning on a Saturday? So, here he was, looking for a distraction, something to occupy him.
What he had done to earn the detention in the first place was of little significance to him. A detention hadn’t been intentional, but it was inevitable considering the nature of the infraction. It had been yet another fight in the corridors — old habits died hard, especially when there was no effort made to change them, and Silas was far more used to this particular habit than any twelve year old should reasonably be. A “troubled youth”, he had been called over and over again. “Behavioural issues” were what they said he had.
They could try to punish him, but none of it could ever change what was fundamentally wrong with him. He certainly wasn’t going to be fixed by a bit of manual labour or whatever today’s detention was supposed to be, either. He was hardly listening as instructions were given, yawning and spending more of his attention on trying to keep his eyes open. He idly wondered whether someone had chosen to elevate his case to the headmaster’s attention or whether there had simply been so many rule breakers recently that a mass detention was the only feasible option and the head was the one who had the misfortune of being stuck with them. There really were a lot of students gathered here.
Had he not been so tired, maybe Silas would have analysed the crowd, looking for fellow troublemakers deserving enough of his time or for the most enticing targets that he could mess with. As it was, though, he merely grabbed the equipment on offer, giving the shears an experimental snip. Why the headmaster was entrusting a sharp and potentially dangerous object to a young child who was known to be violent was beyond him, but he wasn’t complaining. It would be boring if Silas just immediately used it for the intended purpose and got to work, though. He glanced around. Surely the headmaster, who currently appeared to be lounging in a chair and drinking something, could not keep an eye on all of them at once.
Silas made for the wardline or whatever the headmaster had said this was, and pretended to get to work, but he was moving ever closer to the denser trees. Despite Silas’s generally loud personality and appearance, he was surprisingly good at doing things unnoticed when he finally stopped talking and trying to attract attention. The reality, after all, was that nobody wanted to notice him. For once, he hoped that would be the case today, too. His gaze flicked back to the headmaster to check that the old man’s head hadn’t tilted towards him, and then he attempted to cross the rest of the way into the forest. His demeanour was calm and confident, entirely without the jittery nerves that would have given away someone weaker. Once he had an objective in mind, there were very few things that could deter him, and the headmaster, knowingly or not, had issued a challenge that was irresistible by making the forest firmly off-limits. It now called to Silas, and he intended to answer.

Detention Detail

Rubbing one of his temples, Richard wasn't quite sure where to begin. Along the tracks were piles of metal, from which protruded thick, heavy, and frankly dangerous metal rods. Frustrated at not being able to levitate anything to get a better look, he put on his dragon gloves before starting to manually move the medium-sized objects. Perhaps sorting them would suffice. There were enough older students in the large group to take care of levitating what needed to be done.
The rustling of leaves and pebbles caught his attention as he uncovered a sort of large, rectangular metal tray. The Slytherin turned his head toward the noise and immediately recognized a girl from his house, and, more importantly, from the same year. A certain relief washed over him: if he had to do detention, he'd rather it be with his housemates. Richard straightened up, taking the opportunity to stretch his back and crack it.
“Hogsmeade? No wait! Either that, or the Library Restricted Section…Actually, you do look like the illegal library type.”
That was quite impressive. Richard lifted his eyebrows in surprise and let out a snicker.
“The illegal library type ?”, he laughed, “ That’d be entertaining ! No… your first guess was the right one, well done…”
As she presented herself, Richard calmly returned the manners “Richard de Montmorency, same year as you… I’ve recognized you from class”.
He turned his gaze toward the debris in front of the girl. She, who seemed to be focusing on the grass, didn't appear, from his perspective, to see the metallic reflection right in front of her. Frowning, Richard approached the object, pulled it toward him with some difficulty, and looked at what turned out to be a kind of long, thin mirror. The glass was gone, leaving only an empty frame. He frowned, crouched down, and tried to read the inscriptions carved on it. Judging by the handwriting, some kids had amused themselves by writing letters and scribbles: “And how about you? How come you’re here… I thought you were the out-of-trouble type?”
