Mikey had been quiet for most of the walk down. Not because he was trying to look mysterious or anything, but because it was far too early, far too humid, and he was still trying to decide if stealing potion ingredients really sounded as bad as everyone made it sound. It did Unfortunately.

He shoved his hands deeper into his pockets as he reached the edge of the grounds, blinking tiredly at the miserable sky overhead. The clouds hung low and heavy, and the whole place smelled like wet dirt, old leaves, and something he really hoped was not going to become part of their detention. Brilliant. This was exactly how he wanted to spend his Saturday.

The worst part was that he had actually been trying to help. Avery had mentioned needing a few ingredients for something she was working on. Not like she had asked him to do anything. Just a passing comment, the kind most people probably would have forgotten. Mikey had not forgotten. He had thought maybe he could surprise her. Make things easier before exams. Show up with what she needed and pretend it had been no trouble at all. Except now he was standing in detention because he had been caught near the potion stores with a very guilty expression and absolutely no good explanation and there was no way he was saying Avery’s name.

Mikey only half listened while Headmaster Lear explained the work ahead. Something about the wardline. Branches. Collapsed markers. Ten hours of cleanup. None of it sounded good, but honestly, he was more focused on the group of students around him. Then he saw Avery. For a second, Mikey just stared. Of all the people he expected to find here, Avery had been somewhere near the bottom of the list. She got into things sometimes, sure, but not usually like this. And if she had gotten herself into detention, he thought she would have told him. Or hinted at it. Or done that thing where she made it sound less serious than it clearly was.

Before he could think better of it, Mikey moved toward her. “Avery?” His voice came out quieter than he meant it to. More surprised than anything else. He stopped beside her, eyes quickly moving over her face like he was checking if she was alright before he asked anything else. “What are you doing here?” A second passed before his brows pulled together. Mikey looked away briefly, rubbing the back of his neck as if that would somehow help him sound casual. “I mean” He cleared his throat. “I didn’t expect to see you here.”

He glanced back toward Headmaster Lear, then toward the gloves and shears being handed out, buying himself another second before looking at her again. “I got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time,” he said finally. That was not exactly a lie. Just not the whole truth. “Apparently that still earns you ten hours of yard work.” He shifted slightly closer, lowering his voice. “You alright?” he asked, softer now. “You usually tell me when you get into trouble.”

It did sound rather shocking but Laasya had found herself in detention on Saturday.

The reason was not because she snuck into Hogsmeade or the forbidden forest. She did not duel someone outside the duelling club, considering she did not know how to.

It was because she vandalized a moving portrait.

Of course she did not mean to do so. What happened was that one day, she walked near one of the portraits holding a glass of juice. And it was in a bright color. And once she stumbled a bit, everything went wrong.

The juice spilled out from her glass. And fell on that portrait. And it looked like it had been vandalized.

So, on the crack of dawn on Saturday, Laasya dragged herself down to the grounds for her first ever detention. She arrived and saw a lot of people there, they probably had detention too. And there he was, headmaster Lear, carrying a tote bag. He announced that as a punishment, everyone were supposed to clean up the neglected portion of the ground. As it was very early in the morning, she wasn’t too keen on doing work. She woke up early everyday, but she didn’t do much work at that time. Laasya was given some dragon hide gloves and rusted shears and then it was time for the detention to begin.

Honestly, she just couldn’t wait for sunset, then she could go back to Gryffindor tower and go to bed. Then she would be able to actually enjoy her Sunday.

Damien couldn’t believe he was having detention for the very first in his two years of being at Hogwarts. It was all Mamori stupid fault and he couldn’t believe he was stuck here. All he could think about is what the heck his father would say once he found out he got detention when he got home this summer. The reason was so stupid too, Mamori had been selling prophecy’s to other students which Damien had sadly been a part of and his prophecy was he would venture out towards the forbidden forest and find something absolutely fascinating out there. Damien usually thought it would be just a hoax or wouldn’t happen till he was older but suddenly one night he thought he saw something near the forest as he was on his way to Ravenclaw tower. He figured why not be curious and check it out for a second but before he could even get any closer he was caught by a professor.

Now here he was sitting in detention and letting out a simple sigh as he looked around the place, their seemed to be a few students here that he did not know of but he could recognize the houses they were from at least. He recognized an older Ravenclaw he had never met before but he knew his name was Zach. Damien had never really spoken to him before but figured instead of being alone he would attempt and that with the older Ravenclaw.

He slowly approached the area he was before he speaking very shyly as he honestly was quite embarrassed to be in detention. He also noticed he was talking to some girl and he honestly didn’t want to be interrupting their conversation and come off as rude. “Uh..I hope you both don’t mind me joining the both of you ? I’ve never been in detention before so a little nervous..also you’re Zach right ?…Ive seen you in the common room a few times.” As he spoke he tried to shake the nerves off but he felt honestly really embarrassed.

Honestly just talking to them was a gamble as he didn’t know a single person, he still could not believe thanks to Mamori stupidity he ended up in detention, Damien made sure that the next time he saw Mamori that he get his galleons back from that stupid prophecy he made up, he knew how much Damien could be for curiosity and still let him buy it.

1) While everything written is true for Dido, much is intentionally incorrect (eg: Dido is not in Ravenclaw)
Dido had been brought up to think of teachers, especially headteachers, as imposing but just figures to be admired.

Professor Lear and his detention were disproving more and more of Dido’s long-held beliefs by the minute.

Rolled 20 in discord
To begin with, she had somehow been landed in detention for hosting a so-called occult ritual. Dido hadn’t even ran it herself, only attending the ritual by accident, and the “ritual” itself had been nothing more than a somewhat spooky truth or dare game, though, looking back on it, Dido probably shouldn’t have tried to convince them that there was a different “Dido” who had actually been the perpetrator. So, somehow, Dido was in detention. This believed unfairness damaged the headmaster’s image enough in Dido’s eyes but it was made even more ridiculous through the ludicrous beach attire he had on and the frustratingly unbothered way he was sipping his drink. Dido ground her teeth.

The contents of the detention itself did not bother Dido nearly as much. In fact, after she quickly got over her childish resentment towards the headmaster who was overseeing their punishment, she rushed over to grab a pair of gloves and shears with a large excited smile on her face. While Dido was pleased at the prospect of time outdoors, she was also thrilled by the company she was with: Mikaela was there with her friend with the blue hair; the two Slytherin Quidditch captains were there as well, though Dido couldn’t imagine what they had done; and, out of the corner of her eye, Dido saw Tina, a girl she had grown remarkably attached to given their rocky start.

Before heading towards the Ravenclaw and without even thinking about it, Dido wrapped her coat around herself more tightly, subconsciously ensuring that no one could see the rather untidily sewn Ravenclaw crest that was emblazoned on her uniform.

She darted over to Tina, grinning even wider, and thrust out an extra pair of gloves and some shears. Dido opened her mouth to ask to be partners before faltering, the slight anxiety edging its way back into her way of being. She swallowed and then asked, more quietly than she would have liked, “Umm… Tina? Do you want to pair up? I mean-it’s fine if not!

Detention, she was in her seventh year and was getting detention. The school year was almost over, and she just had to let her thoughts get the best of her. Logan knew she should not have let the slow-building frustration get to her. Knew she should have never let her thoughts control her actions. If she had just ignored them and continued on with her day, she would have never ended up in this situation in the first place.

It had started with only one first year. Sitting quietly in the library studying, they had come up to Logan asking about secret passages. This one was easy to send off, a simple statement of being quite busy getting them to scurry off. By the end of the week, though, the population had multiplied. Nearly a dozen different first years had come up to her asking where the secret passages were. It confused and frustrated her, as she was just trying to go about her day.

Did Logan look like the type of person to know the secret passages? Was someone setting her up? The Hufflepuff had no idea, but she was done with it.

Only a few of the maps had been drawn up with her limited art skills, authentic enough to pass, but even the closest of looks would allow someone to know it was fake. The first couple students to ask her got them, a couple sickles to get them off of her back. It apparently was not enough for them to keep from talking though, as Logan was now in detention for it.

Her goal, get in and out as quickly as possible. Alby has been cuddled up on her bed when she had left the dorm and Logan had been very tempted to skip the entire thing and just cuddle with the kitten. It was too close to the end of the year for these kinds of things, so Logan was on her way to detention.

The dark-haired girl’s black boots crunched in the dirt as she made her way across the grounds, heading towards the cluster of students that seemed to be huddled near the edge of the forest. The air was humid, causing her hair to stick to the back of her neck and shoulders, tiny beads of sweat starting to form on her hairline. The thought of returning to the school grew if it meant she could go back inside. Why were so many of them getting detention, so close to the end of the year anyway?

With a huff, Logan faintly listened to the instructions as they were given. She heard the basics: pairs, clear debris away, keep in sight. Honestly, nothing too difficult. Glancing around, now it was time for one of the hardest parts, finding someone to pair up with.

⠀ IV. Sweat, tears or the woods.
⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Draped in a mantle of summer sweat, glistening on his neck in tiny particles like beads, he wore as substitute for pearl necklaces. The sharp graze of intense breath inside his throat was an undeniable presence – not pleasant, but strangely familiar and comforting, a vivid reminder of childhood and running so fast your lungs gave out. It came quickly, sharp, never pitiful. Years-old wood beneath his palms, bark against flesh, flesh and palm lines intertwining to create an intricate web of twists and turns, so that when his palm gripped the broomstick, it could create either history or disaster. Yet this was entirely different. Free from any expectation or order, not of the rules, not abiding by anything – simply freedom. Winds tangled in the golden locks of the boy’s hair, the feeling of wings growing on his back, he, the height, and the broom becoming one – of height, of flight, of mind. The soft embrace of all that cradled him when lonely was the beauty of the world from above, the feeling of being king, overlooking his kingdom, in control and in awe, achieving something of his own – ruling but not owning, simply being powerful and tall.
⠀ ⠀ ⠀ An early morning was filled with groans and annoyed remarks in the Slytherin boys’ dormitory. Not a single student was excited for detention; at this hour, even the goody two-shoes and teacher’s pets could not find a way to ingratiate themselves, or perhaps they simply never got in trouble, for the exhausting labour they were forced to do to repay the wrongs they had been caught for.
⠀ ⠀ ⠀ The remnants of yesterday evening’s events were blurry and seemed extracted from a dream-like film. The whips of tree branches struck his face as he rushed past, leaving red marks on his rosy cheeks, the traces of which were still visible in the mirror that morning; the dim light of dusk enveloped the grounds of Hogwarts like a motherly cape, offering a warm, comforting embrace, and the lullabies of birds drifted to the world as it fell asleep. It was all a faint memory, recalled only for the consequences that followed.
⠀ ⠀ ⠀ He remembered a stern voice, that of a teacher – no face, just a blank, frightening, angry mask, like those used in medieval times to ward off supposed evil spirits, now worn by a teacher Sebastien did not care to identify. But from the corner of his eye, he saw it when the teacher shouted into the sky – a harsh command for him to land. The mask, not physical but metaphorical, twisted the teacher’s mouth into the roar of a beast, ready to devour Sebastien when he landed.
⠀ ⠀ ⠀ He was not necessarily purely imagining. For some, detention was truly the equivalent of, or even worse than, being eaten. Consider those who put on a pointless front of being perfect and flawless, those whose parents had set high expectations for them, or those who held themselves to high standards – something Sebastien found simply unnerving and annoyingly stupid. But for him, a careless eleven-year-old Slytherin, to whom everything in the world seemed to exist solely for pleasure, this was just another adventure, a task to entertain him for a while.
⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Sebastien wore a plain black robe over a worn-out muggle-style sweater for efficiency in whatever work might be assigned to him, as well as for warmth in the early morning cold. His boots were tied in messy knots and already soaked with morning dew as he, along with a few other students who happened to leave the castle at the same time, headed down the hill to the lawn bordering the impenetrable grounds of the Forbidden Forest.
⠀ ⠀ ⠀ The boy's eyes followed the trees as they seemed to move and watch, no matter where you stepped or how high or low you went on the hill. Their long, old trunks bent and twisted in ways that were almost unnatural, imparting an eerie atmosphere around the forest.
⠀ ⠀ ⠀ When he arrived, a rather large group of students had already gathered around the headmaster of Hogwarts, whom Sebastien had only seen from a distance, perhaps during lunches and dinners, though he had never been this close to the man. He listened and watched with moderate curiosity, simply out of boredom, as the grey-bearded, intimidating man spoke in a tired voice. All the while, old dragonhide gloves and rusted shears were carelessly dropped into each of the misbehaving students’ hands.
⠀ ⠀ ⠀ "Pairs," Sebastien heard the headmaster say the damning word as he walked past the boy, handing out tools to the students standing beyond.
⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Sebastien's head moved slightly as he checked the people beside him, careful not to let them notice his desperate glances, not wanting to seem like a pathetic, friendless loser. As everyone began walking around and pairing up, some with unpleasant expressions on their faces, he straightened his back, starting to feel a wave of artificial confidence build inside him. Maybe he only imagined it, but it was enough of a push for him to take a step and look for a partner.
⠀ ⠀ ⠀ She stood farther away, yet he still noticed her attention-grabbing presence. A girl who seemed about his age, but looked so much more put-together and sophisticated than Sebastien could ever imagine himself being. A couple of other students stood around her, though Sebastien wasn’t sure if she was paired with any of them. He decided to approach, since she had certainly caught his eye.
⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Hands in his pockets, his posture awkwardly hunched, he stood out among the other first years like a sore thumb – or rather, a lanky one, given his height – as he made his way to her. He couldn’t quite understand what had possessed him to talk to a girl like her; she seemed to eat anxious boys like him for breakfast. But here he was, standing near her, and there was no way back – not after walking this far. It would be far too awkward to turn around and retrace his steps.
⠀ ⠀ ⠀ His throat suddenly felt dry, so he cleared it and forced out a greeting. “Hello… Do you have a pair?” he asked. His voice was barely steady – not hesitant, but not confident either, though he had tried hard to make it seem as if he was the latter.
⠀ ⠀ ⠀ He stood there on the damp grass at the shadowed edge of the woods, where clouds blocked even the rising morning sun, keeping its light from the miserably tired students, up long before their alarms, beginning the Turing journey of facing the consequences of their actions. If only there were a way to escape this, to find some entertainment on the gloomy June days, to reach the heights of the school year, and go home with memories.
⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Yet when your feet collide with mud or water, and it marks you with mortal blood and loam, it drowns you from your heights and strips you of your sophisticated nectar. You become like any other, lacking all your power and leeway. Their hands will cradle you – not gently, but with authority and belligerence. They will dress you in modest garments, knock the crown from your head, and thrust tools into your hands to till the land from which you once ate for free. They strip you of your power, they strip you of your pride, and you stand in the shadows as all the others laugh – they are used to this kind of life. There is a choice ahead of you.

Calming Presence is in affect for Nabi Park
With the pain coursing through every fibre of his being, this 'detention' was sure to be nothing short of torture. Unlike many of those here who would claim innocence as to why they were here, Matthew Campbell had no such misplaced beliefs. No this was entirely the young snakes fault and he was prepared to face the consequences even through the radiating throb of his headache. Yet there was also no misconception in the boys mind that what he did was anything less than righteous. After all, if your father had been ill and the answers could reside within a book, am I truly to believe you wouldn't have done the same.

The brazen quality of his actions had started with the booze. The crisp delighting burn of whisky down his throat was becoming all too common an occurrence for the not even 15 year old but when sleep wouldn't come he hardly resisted the call of its fiery script. Matthew Campbell was a mess, he had been for months and due to his belligerent resistance to accept any kind of help at risk of being a burden, his spiral of destruction was going relatively unnoticed. That was until he had the positively brilliant idea to break into the restricted section. A decision that had not only pained him rebounding off the wards but continued to shackle him by having his booze supply confiscated and landing him in detention. A punishment that very likely should have resulted in suspension if not for his circumstances.

Still as Professor Lear drew the amber liquid from his absurd tote bag like some kind of hipster millennial, only quashed by the full plate armour, Matthew couldn't help but wonder if his personal supply had become Lear's morning treat. At the thought of booze his stomach began to twist and the severely hungover boy found himself keeling over into the treeline to expel some of the bile that had been brewing. A rather nasty side effect of poor decisions. Still the pain resolved him only further, for he would suffer a million days under this torture if it brought him even a sliver closer to helping his father. A trial that was proving futile thus far.

Though last nights liquid supper had not been the only knot that twisted in the young boys stomach, for his detention had brought with it a great deal of risk to his safety. The woods that lined Hogwarts edge were a barrier of protection from outside threats, but only as they possessed a great deal of threats themselves. Staring in past the treeline Matthew was sure he could see eyes darting through the bush, a constant looming watching feeling that had his stomach doing summersaults once more. It had been months since he had sealed his fate, since he had narrowly escaped with his dormmate and sacrificed himself to do it. Still as much as the place taunted him with fear, it tempted him just as powerfully. Some nights he swore he could hear the wind calling to him to visit, urging him to let it consume him. Luckily he had been too consumed by other dangers to submit, but being this near that draw only grew hungrier.

The forest wanted him, and in many ways he wanted it.

Stumbling back after coughing up half his breakfast he took a long gurgle of water and spat out any remaining vile contents that lingered in his throat. A throat that had grown hoarse from the vomit and burn. Pouring the remaining water over his head he relished in the cool wash of it, rejuvenating his spirit and temporarily numbing the attack on his skull if only for a moment. This day was a write off already and he guaranteed he would not survive to see the end of it, but when the low thunder rumbled beneath his feat and a faint knocking came from the dark depths of the forest, Matthew wondered how right he was. With the paranoia that stole his breath, the rattling of his skull preventing logic and the knowledge of what lay within he backed up as hastily as possible until he felt a thud at his back.

Turning around he was met with the sophisticated sight of one Ms. @Nabi Park, someone he had once considered a friend despite their differences. The pair had shared a fair amount of history these last few years but it had fallen distant of late, a failure on his own part most assuredly. Catching his breath, his eyes flared with the sudden impact and he found himself spluttering out, "Sorry Nabi, I eh, I didn't see you there." The golden glint of his eyes flashed wildly as he looked behind them once more towards the forest in panic before returning them to her. "Think the old guy said something about pairs, my senses aren't really at their best today but if you're free we should catch up."

A blush forming over his face as his hand stretched to scratch at the gnawing sensation at his neck he quickly added, "only if you want to that is." The hairs on his neck stood at attention even through the soothing calm he was so desperately trying to conjure as he could not shake that feeling of being stalked. This close to the danger he knew they were prey for the picking so if Nabi accepted he would point towards the debris furthest from the woods and suggest, "let's start over there, we both know that forest has a death wish for us."

In the days following her anointment as prefect, Cecilia seemingly abandoned any pursuit of mischief. Her notable diligence throughout her patrols and dedication as a Quidditch captain allowed her to craft a more favourable reputation. As such, the soothing fragrance of fresh lavender and sweet vanilla enveloping her lent itself to her deception. Unfortunately for Angel, she was the latest – but not the last – to be ensnared by her charming lies.

Upon presenting what appeared to be a legitimate permission slip, Cecilia extended Angel an invitation to Hogsmeade. Once there, the young snakes were to indulge in the most delectable desserts. Whilst this was a genuine expression of gratitude from Cecilia, she conveniently failed to clarify that prefects were not exempt from restrictions. Even so, was there anyone who would refuse the offer of sugary delights? Cecilia did not think so and thus, deemed the knowledge insignificant. Alas, the pair were swiftly caught before they could feast. Rotten luck really. Ultimately, that silly little omission – regardless of her intent – had cost them both their Saturday.

Now she stood beneath the looming clouds with her head held high as the headmaster’s words fell on deaf ears. With a heavy sigh, Cecilia reluctantly accepted the tattered gloves and rusted shears. Facing the consequences of her actions was never going to be pleasant, but in hindsight, pruning seemed simple enough. She had always possessed an inexplicable fondness for the woods, so perhaps this was the day to lean into that. And despite the unrelenting humidity, Cecilia ultimately decided that vast grounds were a welcome change from the musty dungeon air. Unfortunately, Angel did not seem to share the same sentiment.

“Are you upset?” Cecilia asked with a honeyed tone laced with faux innocence whilst tilting her head. One did not require occulemency to deduce such an obvious answer, for Angel refused to even glance at her. Nevertheless, there was not so much as a hint of remorse in her vacant eyes. Cecilia had never been one to apologise, especially for an incident that failed to elicit regret. Instead, she fell quiet and watched the clouds slowly trail by.

After a brief silence, Angel eventually shifted her gaze to Cecilia, only to shake her head disapprovingly. Clasping her hand over her mouth, Cecilia attempted to hide her vulpine smile. In that moment, it took every fibre of her being to not erupt in laughter. Her seafoam eyes gleamed, exposing how amused she was to see Angel seething quietly. Oh my, she’s rather angry.

“Miss Dayes, has no one ever warned you that looks could kill?” she jested, arching a brow before grimacing at the sight of damp soil staining her varnished boots. The distinct lack of malice in her tone would provide no comfort. Still, a sliver of sincerity managed to off her tongue as she recalled her last detention – the disastrous duel. “I assure you that there are worse ways to be punished.”

When Cecilia finally lifted her head, her gaze fixed onto an unmistakable figure.“Merlin’s beard,” she mumbled as her eyes widened in disbelief. Standing before her was the (allegedly) studious and straight-laced Leo Noxley. “Oi, Noxley!” she called out to him whilst cupping her hands around her mouth. “You here for a leisurely stroll or something?” she asked, half-jokingly before lowering her arms. That was when another familiar face appeared. Rosaline, who was arguably the most good-natured out of the three and likely the most remorseful, wound up in detention of all places. Once Cecilia locked eyes with them, her lips began quivering as she tried to contain a fit of laughter. Her sole remedy was to bite her lip and quickly turn away in an attempt to regain composure. For now, the tales of their troublemaking would have to wait if they did not wish to be reprimanded further.

After walking a few steps ahead, she glanced over her shoulder to beckon Angel over. Whilst waiting, Cecilia glanced down at her shears and pondered how slowly she could work before being reprimanded. Perhaps not very long but it was worth a try. Solemn eyes stared at the debris ahead before a sudden gust of wind picked up, tousling her auburn curls. The icy chill nipped at her ears, eliciting a slight shiver. Her arms instinctively around herself, chasing immediate warmth. Trust her luck to be ill-prepared for sudden temperature drops. Dropping her head slightly, Cecilia let out a disgruntled groan. “Who am I kidding? This bites.”

Dido came over to me asking to be partners. Somehow we grew close. It was weird. I quickly wiped my eyes hoping that she didn't notice my red puffy eyes. I saw Mika from afar, wishing that I could scream a apology for crying all night. I adjusted my scrunchie as a cold wind blew over. I shivered, forgetting that I had a gray sweatshirt around my waist. I'll remember that later. I hugged Dido. Thankful that she was here. I then let go. I fingered my delicate heart locket to see stop myself from crying. "Dido thank gosh your here!" I said brushing some hair out of my eyes. "Yes let's PLEASE be partners. How did you end up here?"I asked, not pausing to take a breath. I caught the gloves she tossed me. I almost started crying again. Just because I are here I was at detention because I tried to be perfect. Well I'll have to brainstorm ideas on other ways to be perfect later. I held out some less rusty sheers for Dido. Then I started to do the work with more tears forming. I motioned Dido over hoping we could talk. But how many tears can I muster? At this point I have unlimited tears.

Flame walked down the front steps and out to the grounds. She could not believe she had gotten detention! And in the last week of school too! She had never been caught out after curfew before! She reached the part of the lawn where all the other students who had gotten detention were. She walked up and found a place to stand. She looked around. Some of her friends were here and some people she recognized were standing around. Flame didn’t talk to anyone and waited for the teacher to show up and start the detention.

Flame was surprised when Headmaster Lear walked up and started giving instructions. Apparently they were cleaning up this area of the school and they were going to do it till Sunset. Which by Flames calculations was 10 hours away. Flame was pretty sure that the school couldn’t do this to them cause it was child labour but she wasn’t about to speak up about it now. She watched as the Head master reached into his bag and pulled out a folding lawn chair, something that looked like a cup and a mysterious liquid that Flame strongly suspected was Alcohol based.

Once the Headmaster had launched out the supplies Flame walked up and grabbed a pair of gloves. She looked around for a section of debris that wasn’t swarmed with students. The faster she could get this done the better and Flame always worked better by herself ormond a pair or group of three.

When Flame had finally spotted a part that there wasn’t a Million kids at she walked over and started breaking branches and clearing paths.
