Damion’s limbs were slowly shutting down and the Ravenclaw was about to find himself in a precarious situation as prey for the hunting badgers. It seemed like everyone could tell what was going to happen, including Damion’s teammates. Anastasia had been prioritizing her own consciousness by attempting to dodge the last few spells that came her way, but now she was ready to take action. Two wands turned on the unmoving Damion. Through fog and that damned disorienting mist, Lea and Jake sent Knockback Jinxes after the eagle. Neither spell found its intended target as Anastasia threw herself in front of him, taking both spells in the chest and collapsing from the hits.

“Stop!” Pyxis called out, holding his hands up so that magic ceased all movement. The fallen dhampir was slowly carted off the stage, perhaps leaving Haven the time to threaten her failing wand once more or for Damion to test out the returning looseness of his legs as Cassius’ counter-spell ate away at the effects of the Impediment Jinx. With Anastasia on her way to the hospital wing and the duel resuming for its last seconds, there was a distinct lack of that unnerving aura that each of the duellists had maybe become used to since the beginning of the match. Would anyone be able to take advantage of that?

Damion was not sure what he should be doing. Getting hit by a spell had his head turned around. He was trying his best to stay focussed. He was not hit by any spells except the one that Cassius did to remove the efffects of Impediment Jinx from him. He had frozen in the last round but he was more aware now. He was going to be focussed so they could win the duel.

"I think my wand needs some new batteries," she said to Lea, standing beside her. That could be the only explanation for it's INABILITY to work this duel. Something about those Eagles just threw her off. As terrible as she felt about it, Haven did feel a little relieved once Anastasia was taken off to the hospital wing. Poor thing. Hopefully it could put them in a better position for the duel, though. Surely it was almost over by now... she was starting to feel quite tired! She wasn't as bouncy as usual. In fact, Haven thought she could use a nap. Yeah, a nap sounded good, right after this duel. Then she could get ready for a romantic date... either with a pygmy puff or a certain duck-obsessed someone, if he decided to make an appearance tonight. But she still had some duel left to go, she wasn't sure how much, she had lost track. But she would do her best.

"We can do it, we can do it, let's go, let's go!" she encouraged her team, bouncing from side to side to energize herself. "Badger badger badger!"

"Finite Incantatem!"

Under the effects of the Impediment Jinx, Damion was looking quite worse for wear. Instead of going on the offensive, Cassius instead opted to aid his teammate, removing the effects of the spell which left him vulnerable. However more heroic was the efforts of their younger year teammate. It was a sacrifice which Cassius respected immensely as he watched Anastasia block the incoming spells towards Damion. He made a mental note that he would owe her a butterbeer after this duel.

It was nearing the end and despite being down one teammate, Cassius was confident they could pull ahead.

WANDMAKER (ROUGAROU HAIR)

• 10% of the damage done by a "dark" spell is done to a target that was successfully hit by a dark spell every round for the duration of the thread. This is considered to be "bleeding" and can be countered with the bandaging charm.
• In Duelling: This bleeding effect is limited to 4 rounds. If hit by another dark spell in the meantime, the bleeding effect is replaced with the new one.
• On a critical success with a "dark" spell, a second target (only if defined by the caster before this has been rolled) can be targeted, if no secondary target is declared then nothing happens.
• -10% damage done with non-dark spells.

"I really- don't think it works like that, unfortunately." If only, batteries were a lot easier to replace and recharge than mental focus and energy.

It was rare Lea had seen sacrificing one of your teammates as the play, not often that someone would willing take hits to keep someone else standing. And even then, more often it was to keep the struggling teammate up- but the eagles were strategic and a little unconventional. Her casting somewhat returned to normal despite the dizziness from feeling upside down, the Hufflepuff was certain her aim had been true through the fog towards Damion- yet it would be Anastasia who took all the strikes, a jarring halt right before the end. The chances weren't looking great but maybe the badgers could scrounge something up from this mess. Regardless, Lea would be talking a nap after all this.

Jake tried to let his team-mate's Badger chant push him forward - it had NOT been a pleasant duel. He was hoping it was almost over - win or lose, at least he'd know that up was up and down was down! He'd have to congratulate their opponents either way - it had been a lot of dueling he'd done over his time at Hogwarts and nobody had incapacitated him so well before. He gritted his teeth and pushed on to to the end!

Two different strategies emerged as badgers and eagles fought to claim the win. Despite being down a duellist, the Ravenclaws were looking sturdy and almost evenly matched with the Hufflepuff trio standing across from them.

The badgers were eager to stay out of the hospital wing, it seemed. Instead of sending a barrage of spells at their opponents, all three of them attempted to uplift each other’s endurance in the hopes of outlasting the other side. Haven and Jake found success, especially the former who bathed herself in the brightest magical glow Pyxis had ever seen on the piste. Jake provided some of that relief to Lea whose attempt to heal both her teammates at the same time failed. Even though Anastasia had taken her off-putting aura with her when she was carted off the stage, there was still something distracting about the other team.

The Ravenclaws seized the advantage, unleashing crackers like a holiday sale at Zonko’s. Cassius’ landed first but it was a bit too far from his targets, and close enough that he managed to catch himself. Damion had a bit more luck after conjuring two flurries as one of them managed to disorient Haven and Jake. Alas, the crackers were the deciding factor in the tight match, pushing the eagles over the finish line just as time ran out.

“And that’s it, folks! The Murder of Merlin has taken it! Well done to both sides and congratulations to our winners!”
