Puzzled and Trapped
In the corridor, some sound, or smell beckons the students forward, inviting them on an adventure, one that they won't forget. In the room, there is a box right in the middle. The bold or the curious do their best to avoid the temptation, but who truly would be able to avoid a mysteriously colorful box in the middle of a rather normal looking room? That does not seem dangerous, and instead seems like it would be a rather nice gift for whoever opens it.
But once someone does, instead darkness will flow from the box, covering every facet of the room, and ensuring the students are effectively blinded. Sounds will beckon from the darkness, but those who are brave enough to wander from their position near the box will find themselves being hit by random objects moving on their own. What feels like hours later but is really minutes later, the darkness disappears, candles on the wall lighting simultaneously and flickering in a mysterious wind.
The transformed chamber is full of dust circling in the air, occasionally being stirred around by movement or a mysterious wind. The stone walls are old and imprecisely carved, pieces of the stone sticking out. The magic that formed the room did not worry about making it perfect. Dim candlelight flickers, casting shadows on the walls, but not providing enough light to truly be able to see everything with the room at a glance. Furniture covered with dust clothes is placed randomly throughout the room. Age and various creatures that found themselves stuck in the room for a time having partially destroyed the fabric. The structure of the furniture themselves remain untouched by anything except for dust.
In a corner, there are faint glimmers in the candlelight. A couple of metal pieces slotted together form a ship, its mast caught in the space between two stones. A child’s toy left abandoned, perhaps based on the boats that ferried the first years across the Great Lake on their arrival at Hogwarts. Several other seemingly random metal pieces are scattered around the room, perhaps having at one time forming a small group of boats, but carelessly discarded, and left wherever they were tossed.
There are several paintings hung in no particular order, their occupants sleeping or making grim faces at the students that arrived unexpectedly. They would offer no hints, instead jeering or mutely staring at occupants, making them feel watched and judged as clues are searched for. More are stacked against the wall, weary of only seeing the back of the portrait in front of them. There are no plaques to denote who the occupants once were, though obviously at one time, they must have been important or loved enough to have been hung somewhere in the school.
-Your goal is to try to find the first object/puzzle that is hidden in the room.

─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────Arno found himself in a room he hadn't expected to encounter. What began with an invitation, a beckoning of sorts had slowly plagued the whole room with smoke of some kind; Arno wasn't sure of the substance or it's true source. This did however feel as if it was a set up, cursed school ,cursed happenings.
Perhaps, Arno should, if this continues, decide to not visit Hogwarts. Despite the chilling hell Durmstrang was, Arno was yet to experience as many traumatic experiences there as he had for Hogwarts and it's premises. After what felt like hours, the darkness disappeared as the candles simultaneously came to life, serving the purpose candles are meant for.
There was dust, it smelled like old and it seemed abandoned, as if the only entity that had touched them was the time; time that touched all and left no survivors. The ship and it's glint caught Arno's eyes, he couldn't care less for those stacked against the walls. The boy's distaste for their lack of reaction wasn't evident in his actions but it lingered, deep in the crevices of his mind as his brain turned the gears.
For a lack of better ideas and the quick surprise he'd been ushered into, Arno opted to free the mast and collect the scattered pieces, bringing them all together.

Puzzled and Trapped
One couldn’t deny that black smoke seemed like a negative sign, a sign of evil, or something dastardly taking place. And certainly, one may even think that there was something cursed about it.
The school itself had seen its own fair amount of chaos; the cursed Hogsmeade trip still a poor memory for many iNPC students.
But soon enough the candles would grant light, the better to see and determine what the heck Arno was in for. The previous darkness could have hidden anything, even a madman intent on doing harm. After all, a box does not usually just appear in a room, even in a school as magical as this.
But the emptiness and lack of human presence would become clear. The pieces of metal would draw the eye, a weapon if needed, but in this case, they would be something more. Arno was easily able to free the pieces; the walls were eager to give up their hold on the slippery things. It seemed that they may have just fallen there, but there was nothing to say about how they had fallen or from where.
The candlelight flickered with an almost human like glee off the pieces. If one were astute enough, they would notice holes, places where it didn’t seem necessary to have such a thing. They seemed to serve no purpose. But if one were clever enough, they would realize the light could reveal many things. The candles could be helpful, or if the third year had remembered his wand, there would be a spell that would allow him to direct the light precisely. He only needed to figure out what the light would reveal.

─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────With a lack of discernable features and a void of interactable details in the room, the Durm Chaser found himself in a room with no way out. Was he trapped or was it a deliberate game he had found himself in. It reminded himself of 'SAW' one of the few movies he'd seen with his father. An act his mother didn't really appreciate; judging by the contents, no sane parent would. But it had happened and there was no going back from the horrible ends to his already short life he had begun imagining.
Assembling those pieces back together, Arno felt his senses all raised to their elevated state, the feeling of being both a prey and the predator, once he'd find his way out, Arno had half a mind to get to the bottom of this. Most important however, was to make it out of here.
Arno had freed them, but there was no idea for a progression beyond it. With no clear outcome in mind, Arno sat down for a while as he pondered for a way out. Arno's thoughts were interrupted with candle light flickering from the metal pieces, directly shooting into his eyes. He stood up, wand at ready, perhaps a change of vision might help him?

The flickering candle lights and rather dim room lent itself well to the horror genre. The connection was an easy one to make for Arno and one that usually could not be easily shaken. But that flickering light would hopefully be more useful than for seeing his surroundings. Especially given he seemed to be alone in the room, at least it seemed that way.
Thinking like a true wizard, his wand was pulled out and determined to be useful. Using a basic spell, Arno lit the tip of the wand, lighting up the walls and floor around him. It had the added bonus of shining through at least one of the metal pieces, the light making a familiar shape. Now it would need to be determined if it was a one-off that the light granted him a letter or if perhaps there might be more hidden to help direct his next steps.
But what Arno had not noticed, and would lend itself to the horror genre, was a rather gangly body hidden by the shadows. The candles allowed them plenty, and they were determined not to be discovered. They had snuck in, unsure if they would reveal themselves, or perhaps scared to death that the other student would be the stuff of nightmares. Whatever their motive, they had not revealed themselves. Inching around the room, they struggled to see what Arno was doing, but were determined to do so. Unfortunately for them, as they grew nearer, they ran into an rather lightweight, but tall dresser. Nothing had been stored in the thing for decades. With horror, the student watched as it tipped over, almost missing Arno entirely, but catching his side as it went down. A decent sized cut ran down his side, blood welling to the surface.
