Hit and Miss PV Rose Finished

Rose was a surprisingly fast worker and had her ingredients measured out before Ivy had. Looking over at her in approval, she nodded at her, smiling but a little embarrassed that she was yet to have her half of the materials measured. "You're fast," she commented, and carefully measured out the last ingredient before pushing taking out her cauldron. "Is Potions your favourite subject? Mine's Transfiguration." Ivy had taken a liking to Transfiguration from the very beginning, despite the difficulty of it. She didn't mind Potions too much, and her potions almost always came out alright.

Ivy added the first ingredient, leaning over to check Rose's copy of the textbook. "So you're from America, right?" she asked casually, in an attempt to start a conversation. It was rather obvious from the redhead's smooth, low accent in contrast to Ivy's. "Whereabouts?" Rose had probably told her on the first night, but that was over a month ago and Ivy had been too busy arguing with Kayden Mae to really pay attention.

"I'm from the English countryside - Sussex, to be specific. Have you ever been?" Ivy gestured that Rose should add the next ingredient before stirring the mixture. She wanted to get a good grade on this - Potions was not exactly her strongest suit but Ivy knew that if she came out with a fail, her parents would certainly take her out of Hogwarts. Her mother needed a reason to - she had wanted her daughters to attend Beauxbatons - and if she messed up, then she would be out of the castle faster than you could say 'Hogwarts'.

Ivy nodded at Rose's declaration that Charms was probably her favourite class. It was a pretty fun class, actually, and Ivy enjoyed the lessons. She smiled at Rose's summary of her family history and answered her question, "I rarely stepped foot outside of our estate. My parents don't like to travel." Her eyes flickered upwards to the ceiling. The only excursions she'd taken outside of Sussex were all secret, with her now-disowned older sister, Lillian, to see a musical or a play.

"I do," Ivy replied in response to Rose's question about siblings. "I have a younger sister. Alison." She decided not to mention Lillian, instead only referencing the other sister, seeing as it was too hard and complicated to explain. "And my maid, Jessamine," Ivy added on thoughtfully. "I consider her a sister, I suppose." The two girls had grown up together, and although Jessie was a Squib, they were very close. Ivy had not missed the tears in her maid's eyes when she had received her letter - not only of pride, but of envy.

Ivy added yet another ingredient and looked into the cauldron. It was starting to turn into the dark blue colour it was meant to be, and she let Rose stir the potion. They were basically done, and messing it up now would be hard. "What about you? Do you have any siblings?"

Ivy's eyebrows shot upwards as Rose mentioned that she had four siblings. Four?! She could hardly deal with one, let alone four... "Wait, what? You have four siblings? How do you deal with that?"

She nodded at the statement that she was the peacemaker and frowned at the mention of the blowup on the first night. There had been many more after that, screaming matches that occurred at least once a week, but Rose hadn't tried to get in between Ivy and Kayden Mae again. "Leave it, Rose. It doesn't matter - I've almost forgotten about it now. And it was nice of you, to try and make peace between us, but it doesn't work."

Ivy would never admit it, but in the back of her mind, she knew that she was the reason why she was enemies with Kayden Mae, although she didn't really regret calling her out on her messiness. She was little more tolerant of messy areas nowadays, but it still irked her.

"Do you miss your siblings?" she asked. "I mean, my little sister can be annoying, but I miss her a lot. I don't know how she's coping right now." Especially with her parents. They had never raised a hand to Alison, but they were distant. Cold. Alison was the mischievous sister, the one who played pranks and relished in her parents' disapproval. Ivy helped her get out of trouble all the time, and although Jessamine had promised to try and take her place in that area, she knew that her parents wouldn't listen to a maid.

She turned her focus back onto the potion, which looked like it was ready. "Looks like it's done. Should we put it into vials?" Ivy filled a crystal vial with the blueish potion. It wasn't perfect, but it would earn them a pass for the day. She had gotten lucky with her partner today. It had actually been quite fun working with Rose, and Ivy was beginning to like the American redhead more and more.

The potion earned them an E - not bad, really - and as they were dismissed, Ivy turned to Rose as she cleaned up the table, smiling. "That was a lot of fun," she said. "You're really good to work with." It was quite true. Although their potion wasn't without flaws, Rose was surprisingly good at Potions and Ivy had a suspicion that she herself was the reason why they had messed up. Still, she didn't say anything and instead focused on clearing the scraps off the table.

Ivy knew a lot more about her roommate now, and she even wanted to hang out with her some more after school. "We ought to hang out some more. Perhaps we should go to the library together after school and study together? I have some History homework that I need to finish," she said, her tone friendly.

It was almost never her to extend invitations to hang out, but Ivy occasionally did, when she was particularly intrigued by someone. "We could even head down to the Lake sometime. It's getting a little cold now, but it's very pretty," she mused, packing her brass scales into her leather bag. Their classmates were beginning to file out the door. Ivy followed suit, walking with Rose to her next class, chatting all the way.
