By Merlin’s big bloomin’ trousers, by Voldemort’s ever-so-exemplar noseless visage, by Harry Potter’s Snitch-grabbing paw, are all the bloody stupid gods who have ever been the faintest bit conceptualised, all collectively bloody laughing at him right about now? Because frankly, at this moment, that is the only explanation that the hapless lad called Rafal Devereux is able to accept for the atrocity his life has become. That he’s been unwittingly selected for some fucking mode of higher-entity drama-soap/overly sensationalised play, some manner of depraved, sadistic entertainment.

Two foul attempts. That’s all he’s bloody done since the whistle blew. All around him, those unencumbered with the weight of incompetence mock him, the gleeful audience to this ignominy. No. No. He shall not have it. It is unacceptable. Harken their cheers of derision, their jeers of mockery! Hipogriff’s bollocks, that’s what this is. It’s bloody fucking rigged, it is, the Slytherin sees right through their game. The snakes live up to their repute, it’s earned through sweat and tears and countless acts of perfidy, of which rest assured, not a single damned one is easy game. That’s bloody right, there’s no hiding from him. Everyone is just destined to fail, mere fools in this vast ocean of inevitable despondency. Pretty blondie had been the wisest of them all, she’s the one who got out. And he’s still here.

Time seemed to slow for a brief moment. The bodies in the air hovered as if they were suspended in the air rather than flying, though there was no realistic scenario where they were actively just floating there. Ari knew this, but his brain was not processing the things his eyes were seeing properly. Focus was a fleeting thing, as was the case for the past months. This wasn't new, but right now was a horrible time for his head to start finding a new way to come unstitched.

It wasn't until the Thunderbolts scored another 10 points that Ari snapped out of his trance, the cheers from his teammates pulling him back into the real world. He had no clue what had taken place around him the past minute or so. Were people trying to talk to him? Was he supposed to be in the game now? Had Elena come back to swap out? No, he would've registered her by now, even if his mind was broken. She was still up there in the middle of the game, and he was doing a horrible job of being an active player, even from the bench.

Just find something small to focus on up there. A color, a person, the quaffle, anything. You have to focus.

He felt ashamed for his lack of attention as of late, but as hard as he tried, there wasn't much that was working to help. At least his own efforts weren't working. The thing that worked in the moment now was, quite unfortunately, Graci hitting the ground with a thud. It was enough to stir a nauseous wave in his gut, and now the thoughts circling inside his skull were occupied by concerns for her and hopes she would be okay.

Hopefully he wouldn't be meeting the same fate soon.

The referee did not take either Max or Zephyr for cheaters, as they had not attempted to perform any fouls since the beginning of the game (unlike Rafal); however, it seemed that when put together as a pair, they played dirty. Max decided to forgo the bludger entirely, instead opting for using his bat to inflict damage upon Prat instead. Though Ebony had been struck by bludgers some dozens of times, she had to admit that she had never been bludgeoned off her broom by a beater’s bat before. It was sure to give a mighty concussion. Fortunately for Prat, he spotted the aggressive assault in time and was able to swerve out of the way.

“Penalty lap, the two of you.” It was too obvious of a foul to ignore.

Laasya seemed to be on a streak of violence and destruction ever since having taken into the skies; after aiding in the bludgering of Graci, she sent a well-aimed bludger towards Astal. The poor girl was barely on her broom for a minute before she was sent tumbling towards the ground. Though Mirada was hovering around the pitch in search of falling teammates, Astal was too far out of her reach.

Prat, presumably in revenge for the bludgering of his teammates and for the foul committed against him, attempted to employ the backbeat to send a bludger towards Laasya. Though the technique did provide him with increased precision, Laasya was narrowly able to evade, even after having taken one of Prat’s bludgers the previous round. She was still on her broom, though the evasion was mindblowingly risky.

OOC: Sharing a broom is not all that easy when it comes to what is considered godmodding and not, so Zeph has consented *thumbs up*

He was still pretty dazed from the hit and falling from his broom. It was enough just to hold on to Zeph to avoid yet another fall. But there was no question in his mind, Pass had to go. Preferably a yet to be discovered continent. The sooner the better, too, since Laasya would hardly stay on the pitch much longer if he remained.

Sharing a broom did have a few upsides after all. He didn’t have to focus as much on steering, and could steer all focus towards the bludgers. It was just the fact that none of them seemed to want to come within striking distance. After giving up yet another, he cursed. «Just get us close to him, I’ll figure it out!» He bent closer to Zeph to make sure the words were heard.

He managed to catch Harland and Damien both scoring, before he locked in. They were almost there. As no bludger was close by, he did the first thing that crossed his mind. Aiming, he got a bit distracted from the boos of the benched players. It was almost too late, but he aimed and swung the bat at the Slytherins head anyways. «Damn it!» His strike hit nothing but air. He shook his head to rid himself of the irritation. There was no arguing the penalty lap, he knew his attempt had been obvious. At least there was one upside, Poppy seemed to finally spot the snitch.

Their movement while sharing the broom was far from smooth and graceful. It was messy and unbalanced and way harder than it looked from the ground. But he’s trying to make it work, his main purpose was to help his team and Max, now they’re sharing his broom. Letting Max fall, not happening. He adjusted his position to keep them steady, his hand tightening around the broom handle, his shoulders tense from the effort of keeping the broom level while Max was completely focused on the bludgers and adjusting speed so the guy wouldn’t lose balance.

The plan was shared and he easily agreed without hesitation or argument. “I got it.” His attention went to Prat while also keeping track of everything else happening around them. Harlan was doing a fantastic job scoring again with a bit of push back to Damien. The noise from the benches both cheers and boos could be heard but the latter was louder than he anticipated that for a second there, it actually threw him off. He glared in that direction before focusing on the plan. They were close enough, he felt Max’s shifted right before the swing, trusting his friend to do it right. But he missed…

He exhaled in frustration when he heard the call for the penalty lap not long after they were caught, a resigned shake of his head was his response. “That one’s on us.” He didn’t slow down as he looked around the pitch, noting the movement from both seekers. Did they found the snitch?? He reminded himself to focus on his own tasks and jut trust Poppy to catch that snitch! Go Poppy!! You can do it! As much as he wanted to shout that, there’s no time. “Next time, we’ll make it count.” He told Max as he briefly glance behind him.
