In the corridor, some sound, or smell beckons the students forward, inviting them on an adventure, one that they won't forget. In the room, there is a box right in the middle. The bold or the curious do their best to avoid the temptation, but who truly would be able to avoid a mysteriously colorful box in the middle of a rather normal looking room? That does not seem dangerous, and instead seems like it would be a rather nice gift for whoever opens it.

But once someone does, instead darkness will flow from the box, covering every facet of the room, and ensuring the students are effectively blinded. Sounds will beckon from the darkness, but those who are brave enough to wander from their position near the box will find themselves being hit by random objects moving on their own. What feels like hours later but is really minutes later, the darkness disappears, candles on the wall lighting simultaneously and flickering in a mysterious wind.

The transformed chamber is full of dust circling in the air, occasionally being stirred around by movement or a mysterious wind. The stone walls are old and imprecisely carved, pieces of the stone sticking out. The magic that formed the room did not worry about making it perfect. Dim candlelight flickers, casting shadows on the walls, but not providing enough light to truly be able to see everything with the room at a glance. Furniture covered with dust clothes is placed randomly throughout the room. Age and various creatures that found themselves stuck in the room for a time having partially destroyed the fabric. The structure of the furniture themselves remain untouched by anything except for dust.

In a corner, there are faint glimmers in the candlelight. A couple of metal pieces slotted together form a ship, its mast caught in the space between two stones. A child’s toy left abandoned, perhaps based on the boats that ferried the first years across the Great Lake on their arrival at Hogwarts. Several other seemingly random metal pieces are scattered around the room, perhaps having at one time forming a small group of boats, but carelessly discarded, and left wherever they were tossed.

There are several paintings hung in no particular order, their occupants sleeping or making grim faces at the students that arrived unexpectedly. They would offer no hints, instead jeering or mutely staring at occupants, making them feel watched and judged as clues are searched for. More are stacked against the wall, weary of only seeing the back of the portrait in front of them. There are no plaques to denote who the occupants once were, though obviously at one time, they must have been important or loved enough to have been hung somewhere in the school.

This wasn't Kaito's usual scene, but that's exactly what he was going for. Being cooped up for far too long was doing numbers on his mental state, so he decided to leave the dorms more often these days. Signing up for an activity with his house was a no-brainer, but he did wish that he had someone he was familiar with. Instead, he entered the room alone. It was surprisingly empty, save for a box in the middle. Shrugging and not considering a lick of repercussions, he absent-mindedly tipped the box open.

Big mistake.

Left coughing and swatting at the dust in the air, he mumbled an apology to whoever had stepped into the room with him at that time and then turned his focus to the transformed room. Now this was more like the 'escape room' that was advertised. He thought that, at least. What he could make out was seen through squinted eyes as he got used to the dim lighting in the room. That was going to be a problem that needed fixing immediately if he didn't want his eyesight to get worse.

Before he could retrieve his wand, a twinkling along the wall caught his eye. He approached it, noting as best as he could in the dark, a ship made of metal that looked like it was stuck in the stone. Now that his attention was on the metal, he saw the candlelight reflecting on pieces of metal scattered around the room. That was most interesting, but he would first need to see properly to begin investigating.

"Lumos."

The winter may have kept Kaito cooped up, or some other reason but whatever it was, he was more than ready to escape his dorm. He would not be lacking interesting things to do with this activity. Especially given that he made the mistake of touching an unknown and strange-looking box.

Perhaps he had not been paying attention when he tipped the box open. One would hope, however, that the dark smoke and sounds from the dark would capture that attention. Especially given the transformation, the room had undergone once the smoke cleared.

The intelligent third year would both catch the glimmer of the metal, and use his wand to his advantage. The light from his wand would allow him to get a closer look at a piece of metal nearby. It would hit just right to illuminate some cutouts along the metal shape that would not seem to have a purpose, or at least not one that was obvious. But the light did shine through the cutout, and that would illuminate a shape that would be visible on the floor from the shape of the cutout. The shape was a letter, easily overlooked. But was it just the one metal piece that had that cutout or did they all? There was only one way to find out.

-One of the top three earners of Gryffindor have been assigned to your thread to cough, cough add a bit of additional chaos. If they are not able to do so for whatever reason one week, I will post as a faceless dNPC.

I've done a d6 Roll that will align with the below actions:
1-2: Minor Inconvenience
2-3: Slightly more difficult or scary inconvenience
4-5: Minor Maiming inconvenience
6: The inconvenience backfires and actually helps the individuals in question

Your roll is 3.

-Spell Roll: Lumos (WDC: 12)

6+10=16, the spell succeeds.

Skylar watches the scene unfold from her hidden spot. It would be fun, they said. And if Skylar was completely honest, she has no idea what she was doing. Bloody hell, she does not even know how this works! By being one of the top three earners of the month, Skylar was given the privilege to be in the inner workings of this 'escape room.' However, she had not been listening as closely as she probably should have.

The first person she sees appears to be an older Gryffindor. Kaito, she believes was his name. Or at least what she was told. Her eyes follow his movements as he casts Lumos. When he discovered the hidden letters, Skylar immediately perks up interest. Despite being behind the scenes, she actually does not know how to escape the room. Are the rest of the metal pieces like that as well?

Skylar sighs dejectedly as she observes from her position. How she wishes to join in on the fun. She was told to 'cause some chaos,' but what exactly?

Skylar's eyes search the room and land on the various paintings in the wall. She faintly remembers something about a painting being important, but she is unsure. She really has to work on her attention span and listening.

Quietly, Skylar slinks out for her hidden spot, making sure that she could not be seen. She makes her way to the paintings, ignoring the judgemental look one of them gave her. Thankfully, none of them said a thing. I wonder if there is anything behind the paintings... Skylar thinks to herself. Looking over her shoulder and making sure that no one was watching, she curiously lifts up one of the paintings. However, the large sized portrait was heavier than she thought. Skylar's hand drop from the sudden weight, earning a yell from the painting.

Hearing this sudden noise, Skylar panics. She drops the painting and winces as it hits the ground with a loud crash. Shoot. Turning back to her hidden location, Skylar bolts out of the escape room and slides back into the shadows. The painting was letting out muffled curses, but she knows it would not say anything about her presence.

Hiding in the shadows, Skylar lets out a shaky breath. No one could see her, and no one would know. However, the sudden fall of the painting may cause a little havoc.
