Down on their luck thus far, the Hufflepuffs were finally gaining some momentum. Jake had been trying to hose Anastasia down for two turns with no success but his jet of water found the target he was aiming for and doused the dhampir with a shower that certainly was not heated. Even her quick feet was not enough to stop the droplets from seeping through her clothes. Haven sought to slow Damion down until he could no longer move. Her jinx hit him in the legs and while it would take some time for his entire body to be affected, he was going to find that evading spells would be a bit harder in a few moments.

Lea would not see the same success as her teammates however as crackers failed to form in her attempt to cast. Also distracted by the eeriness of Anastasia was her own teammate. Damion wanted to set up the same fog and mist combo that helped the Ravenclaws out earlier, but no fog materialized when he swung his wand. Cassius, on the other hand, struck Haven with a devastating blow. Pyxis had never seen a spell like it before, watching as Haven felt her energy slowly leaving her just as she began sporting cuts from the ruthless Rougarou wand core.

Jake couldn't BELIEVE he had actually managed to hit somebody - at least he THOUGHT he had. It sounded like he did, but he was still pretty distracted by the fact that he felt like he was upside down. He wasn't sure if they were winning or losing (his hit rate would seem to suggest they were not doing great) but maybe this meant things were turning around? He wasn't sure what he had even done differently this time...

But given that he had missed way more often than he'd hit, he was still sort of wondering if the best strategy was to try to aim next to people and hope he just missed and hit them.

"Surpo energia!"

The deterioration hex was one of Cassius' more useful spells that he had learned this past year. Difficult to cast but if done successfully, the effects were quite powerful. This time, he not only cast it successfully but managed to land a hit. It was one where the effects grew more powerful over time. A particularly devilish spell.

Cassius was not one to rest on his laurels. He raised his wand and prepared his next moves.

WANDMAKER (ROUGAROU HAIR)

• 10% of the damage done by a "dark" spell is done to a target that was successfully hit by a dark spell every round for the duration of the thread. This is considered to be "bleeding" and can be countered with the bandaging charm.
• In Duelling: This bleeding effect is limited to 4 rounds. If hit by another dark spell in the meantime, the bleeding effect is replaced with the new one.
• On a critical success with a "dark" spell, a second target (only if defined by the caster before this has been rolled) can be targeted, if no secondary target is declared then nothing happens.
• -10% damage done with non-dark spells.

"Why," Haven croaked to the other team as she was hit and felt blood run down her arms. "Why would you do that? That's so mean. And that hurts." She pouted a little. So much for looking nice for Valentine's Day. At least she had a fairly large collection of band-aids, she was sure she could find some to match the holiday theme, though at the rate blood was gushing out of her, she wasn't sure they would do much now.

"I'll be fine, Marcus!" she yelled to her pygmy puff in the stands, even though the look she gave to Lea right after definitely said the opposite. Haven truly was a confusing mix of blind confidence and utter lack of it, especially in duels. Oh well, keeps the other team on their toes, she thought.

Despite her inner 'motivational' speech, nothing seemed to change. That Ravenclaw seemed almost to have an impossible grip on Lea's mind as the Hufflepuff tried to switch to focusing on Damion with little avail. A thought seemed enough to fizzle the incantation to nothing, no chance given to the Cracker Jinx she built up. At least Haven and Jake seemed to find their stride but the Ravenclaws still managed a strike of their own. Just hold out a little longer, please, Haven... She didn't spare the time to voice her thoughts aloud, spending it instead to shake her head as though it might knock some sense back into place.

Jake was aiming at her. Again. And this time his spell actually worked. Maybe Anastasia expected the spell to fail. Again. And that would be why she moved late, tried to dodge late. And that's how she found herself basically drenched in water. Fuck that's cold. With her clothes wet and heavy, it was going to be harder to dodge. Whatever, it was part of the game.

Another round went by with some lagging from the Ravenclaw side. Damion's focus lapsed long enough for him to miss his chance at casting. Anastasia once again went without letting a spell leave her wand, but she still hopped on her feet while taking precautions for any spells that might come her way. Again, it wasn't enough to combat against Jake's targeting as a Knockback Jinx from his wand smacked into her shoulder. Luckily for the eagles, both Lea and Haven had troubles with their casts. Lea shook off any hairs raised because of Anastasia, but she still could not get control of her wand as no storm materialized over the Ravenclaw side. Haven, perhaps taking joy in seeing the dhampir soaked, aimed her water gun at Damion. Alas, the strong stream jetted towards her instead. Cassius was the only eagle to cast a spell, shooting a Blasting Curse at Jake. However, the ball of firey energy slammed into the piste between the caster and the target, missing Jake but still sending shards of the piste flying at both him and Cassius. Unsurprisingly, the power of Cassius' wand once again caused the sharp piste chips to leave open wounds in their wake on both parties.

Ow.

Even as he cast the blasting curse, Cassius could tell something had gone wrong. He had cast the spell well but something distracted him just enough that it failed to target his intended target. Worse was the distraction causing the spell to backfire slightly and hurt himself, the splintering sparks of the missed blast cutting into his skin. Even as the blast settled, he could feel the blood begin to soak his robes. It was not severe but still a nuisance.

There was still a fight to be had, however, and Cassius prepared himself to continue.
