Ari wasn't one to get nervous before a game. He didn't often get nervous in general. For some reason today, however, he found himself with butterflies in his stomach, little wings threatening to creep their way into his freshly healed ribs. It was an uneasy feeling that he didn't really enjoy, and he hoped it would subside soon.

Rather than his usual jacket that he wore during broom races, he kept his attire down to a simple black tank top and jeans, the humidity warranting less layers than usual since he was certainly not immune to sweating, but he kept a light grey flannel tied around his waist in case. He had never played a quidditch game with other people before, but he knew what he was getting himself into. His mom had played as Ravenclaw's first string seeker from her third to seventh year when she was here at Hogwarts, and now he was stepping into her shoes for this unofficial match. There was a bit of pressure on his shoulders standing where the famed Elvera Elm once stood, but he felt prepared. He grew up with a deep love for the game, watching matches and learning all he could from his mom and studying the players. If anything, his upbringing had prepared him for this very moment in his life. He was going to make his mom very proud.

The quidditch pitch was already scattered with the other people. Almost everyone else was so little compared to him, save for the few other students that were close to his age. There was maybe only one older than him, and Ari recognized them as one of his teammates from the hockey match at Koldovstoretz last month. He also recognized the person organizing and watching over this game as another teammate of him, a fellow fifth year named Ebony. He was grateful for a few familiar faces, but the most important of those was Elena. She was the one who had told him about this match and talked him into signing up. She was his best friend, the moonlit wings that contrasted his own of shadow.

"You seem a bit nervous,"He commented as he walked over to her, twirling his Silver Arrow with ease before setting it on the ground and giving her shoulders a gently squeeze of reassurance. He then took it upon himself to help her finish braiding her hair back, his fingers making quick work of her blonde locks and securing them to relieve her shaking hands. She was set to be the first-string seeker on their team, so she would be the one taking to the sky at first while he waited below. He knew he was probably the team's strongest asset being the oldest, but he also knew that patience was a virtue and it would be dangerous to play their best cards right away.

He walked back around her to face her, knees bent to meet her level. He was over a foot taller than her, and her head only came up to his chest. Having such an observant eye so close to his heart was dangerous, but she did a good job of keeping it safe. "Deep breath, okay? We're not playing for points, moonbeam. Just have fun and enjoy the wind. The wind always welcomes you." He gave her a gently smile as he took a deep breath of his own, grateful that he could fill his lungs comfortably again without being pierced by pain in his side. Hopefully he wouldn't reverse the month of healing he had done by this one silly game.

It was time for him to take his spot on the bench, and he found himself next to Val, a first-year that Ari had not really spoken to, but he vaguely recognized their face in passing. He had brought some water with him to stay hydrated while he waited, so he joined them in propping his long legs up on the bench and waiting for the action to begin as he drank his water, contemplating if he should start conversation or not. Perhaps, rather than small talk, it would be good to plan what to do once they were the ones up in the air. "Forgive me for this sudden proposal, but here is what I think we should do..."

It was finally The day Astal had been waiting for ! She was going to participate in her first Quidditch game, even if it was unofficial it was still very exciting. She also gets to use a better broom than the one she usually has because as this game is unofficial she doesn’t get to borrow a school broom. Such a beautiful Nimbus 1001, even if Astal knew it wasn’t the best of brooms, she couldn’t stop but be mesmerized by its magnificent shape and clean handle.

That morning Astal had woken up very early to be able to get ready as quickly as possible, she had learned a few days before of her teammates and captain, a Ravenclaw. The majority of them were still unknown for her, she hoped to get to talk a bit with all of them. She had taken a light breakfast before going back to her dormitory to change into flying clothes and taking the broom that had been lended to her.

As Astal made her way towards the Quidditch field she saw from far away a few other persons going in the same direction as her, some were in the same team color as her, the Thunderbolts team, while others had different more bright colors to fit the opposing team, the Golden Phoenix. She arrived at the edge of the field and walked towards were the majority of her teammates were regrouped, she saw that she was one of the lasts to arrive. Some of them were already in the air, so Astal just quickly passed by them to say a timid « Hi, good luck for the game. » before going to her team’s benches to join the other players that weren’t playing from the beginning like her. She’ll be able to observe and analyse their opponents strategy. And report it to her teammates.

Dormant he may have been for these last several months of his academic métier in this charming institute specialised in the arts of witchcraft and wizardry, Rafal thinks he shall truly never find it within himself to turn down a good ol’ fashioned Quidditch hustle in the skies. Granted, the first and only other game the Slytherin had partaken in this school year had been largely elucidated to be somewhat mandatory, by both his beloved team and Hogwarts student body as a whole; it being somewhat of an unspoken understanding that absence would have almost indisputably resulted in things too terrible to name being done to his person - but even without stripping away the firm sense of obligation and negligible yet certainly existent fear, the chap personally is unquestionably a group sports sort of fellow. Extra points if they involve broomsticks in any manner at all.

So now, here the second year is - readying himself to set out upon the pitch once more. As Rafal absent-mindedly examines the handle of the most delightful Silver Arrow he had been entrusted with for the duration of the game, he cannot help but begrudgingly think that conditions are truly favourable for the group’s intended activity, a rare stroke of luck. The weather and athletics gods are truly smiling upon them this day. Quite unorthodox for the lot, to be frank. Though then again, he supposes they have at least the following several hours to change their fancies.

SECOND-STRINGS
Harlan seemed to immediately become the center of attention for many of those seated on the bench, perhaps being perceived as a threat given his position as a Chaser on the Gryffindor Quidditch Team. Harumi and Artie would attempt to cheer for him, though only Harumi's shouts of encouragement were heard. Artie's cheers didn't seem to be of enough intensity to overcome the howls of the wind — though Ebony found herself somewhat cynically questioning how many of these benched players wished for their teammates to fall as to be able to play themselves. Astal and Riley, on the other hand, attempted to boo Harlan, though only Riley succeeds. Ari and Valour put their heads together in an attempt to strategise, but they conclude only by looking a little perplexed. Meanwhile, Laasya and Cash remain laid back; Laasya kept her eyes peeled, observing the players intently, whilst the latter seemed to very much take pleasure in munching on their snacks. Ebony was almost tempted to fly over and ask for a couple.

DEBUFF FOULS
A signature feature of Quidditch was the covert elbows that were thrown around by players in an attempt to disorient their opponents. Today's elbower was Rafal; he crept towards Harlan, executing a well-placed jab that almost seemed as though it would hit Harlan squarely — until the Gryffindor swerved away at the very last second. Perhaps it was his quick reflexes, or perhaps a stroke of luck. Rafal, on the other hand, was not so lucky; his elbowing attempt was not so covert after all, for it did not escape the referee's peripheral vision.

"Devereux, penalty lap." Although the attempt did not succeed, Ebony still felt the need to blow the whistle and call penalty. There was something so pleasurable in holding the power to call cheaters out where she normally was powerless.

CHASERS
Rather than going for the Quaffle himself, Damien decided to execute a rather flawless Wollongong Shimmy quite unlike anything she had seen before — the zig-zag motion in which he moved was so clean-cut that even the referee herself was almost distracted. It seemed that Julia would find herself rather disoriented from Damien's motions; Harlan, however, again whether extremely skilful or extremely lucky, would not fall victim to the shimmy.

The Thunderbolts seemed to decide to neglect the Quaffle entirely, for the only contenders for the Quaffle were Julia and Harlan, who were both Golden Phoenixes. Harlan managed to snag the Quaffle multiple times; although Julia came close once, she seemed to still be bearing the effects of Damien's shimmy. Tatiana found that Harlan was a little too speedy for her liking — he even managed to score twice on one of his attempts. Though her fingers grazed the Quaffle on the last attempt, no blocks were successfully made. Denise unfortunately (or fortunately, as some would perceive it) found herself surveying the commotion from the other end of the pitch.

"Stellar goals from Montgomery. 60 points to the Golden Phoenix!" She was not looking forward to facing this beast of a Chaser in future games against Gryffindor.

SEEKERS
The Golden Snitch — arguably the most important component of the game — was also, in Ebony's opinion, the most frustrating. Although she didn't normally concern herself with the pesky golden entity, the very thought of the whole match depending on her eyesight was enough to keep her a broom's length away from the Seeker position.

The Snitch, for now, evaded the sights of both Persephone and Elena. It preferred to remain elusive, perhaps flaunting its golden camouflage against the glint of the Sun.

BEATERS
Ebony could not be called bloodthirsty, but she found herself leaning forward in anticipation as the beaters began a scuffle with the bludgers. A little violence was always warmly welcomed — though of course, she did not wish the fate of getting knocked off by a bludger to any of the players, for it would result in a rather unpleasant stay in the Hospital Wing.

Elisa angled her bat to send a rather well-aimed shot at Damien — only for it to be intercepted by Graci, who redirected the bludger towards Zephyr. Zephyr does not evade quickly enough, resulting in a resounding crack as the bludger slammed into his side. "Ouch, that must've hurt. He still remains flying, though."

Max, on the other hand, decided to target Prat in a classic case of beater-on-beater violence. However, something must have went horribly wrong in the way his bat was placed, because the bludger went flying towards Harlan instead. The referee speculated that perhaps the bat and the bludger felt too foreign to the first-year — or perhaps it was intentional, a personal grudge waiting to be acted upon on the pitch. Regardless, Harlan dodged with ease.

Prat — perhaps in revenge for the attempt against him — sends a well-placed bludger towards Elisa. For a moment, it seemed as though Elisa would be able to pull away just in time, but the bludger hits her. She remained flying, but the hit undoubtedly came with some pain.

・More information about the Quidditch System can be found here.

・As this is not an official game, posts need to be 200 words.

・The deadline to submit strategy via DM/owl and to post is 120 hours (5 days). I'll be more lenient with this for the first two rounds or so, but typically, failure to post on time means your character's action is void and failure to send strategy means the team's actions are voided. Feel free to owl me if you need an extension, as IRL things can get busy.
・Please note that Rafal did post late; given it is Round 1 and he has provided a legitimate reason, I have allowed his action to still be valid.

・Each player is allowed one action per round.

・KOB players no longer need to post, though you may if you desire.

Max soared over the pitch. He could live off of this feeling alone, he was sure. Wind in his hair, the tickle of excitement in his stomach. It was all wildly thrilling. He didn’t even need anyone else there. His mind could fill in the rest of the circus. He pulled himself together and tried to focus.

He kept a good grasp on his bat as he chased down bludgers. It was heavier than he seemed to remember. He had practiced, of course he had. But something about today made it all seem new. The bat didn’t feel as natural in his hand as it did when he practiced on his own. He even came close to dropping it at a point, as it nearly slipped from his grasp. He slowed and shifted his grip. He could not afford to mess up this easily.

Finally, he came close to one of the bludgers. Without thinking, he gave it the biggest whack he could possibly manage. His eyes were on the opposing beater, Prat. He was sure to succeed! Sadly the whack, though it seemed impressive to him, was badly aimed. It missed its mark so horribly, in fact, that it was aimed at Harland. His breath caught in his throat. That was not how it was supposed to go! Thankfully Harland was skilled and dodged easily, and he could breathe once more. «Sorry!» He yelled out in passing, face scrunched up in embarrassment.

He had been so confident before they took off too, talking about the other team eating their dust. His mind scrambled as both Elisa and Zeph were hit with a bludger each. Harland did an all out winning performance with the quaffle. His gaze moved over the pitch as he tried to get an overview. If Elisa had been hit any harder, she would have been knocked cold. «Come on, we got this!» He yelled it out to anyone willing to listen as he lined up to go again. This time he would not mess up as bad.

In the role of Beater, if you hit an opponent with a bludger the bludger will then ricochet off that user and target a second opponent of choice at disadvantage (must be declared, if not declared the target will be random and can be an ally but not yourself). Ricochet damage is 75% of the original hit.

To say this wasn’t how Damien expected the first round to go was an understatement, they were down 60 points and while it wasn’t exactly bad it wasn’t necessarily good either. The only good thing about the first round was Graci managed to intercept a bludger meant for him and hit Zephyr which was somewhat good but the highlight of this first round was prat managing to hit Elisa and taking her out of the game, he had to admit Prat aim was on point with that hit like it was direct and precise.

He looked over at Graci before calling out to her. “Hey! Graci thanks for intercepting that bludger back there I thought I was a goner, so keep up the good work!” He smiled at her before giving her a thumbs up, he realized he was the captian of this team so he might as well keep there spirits lifted up and encourage them. He turned his side to Prat before calling out to him.

“Hey! Great hit Prat! Keep it up and let’s do this!” He smiled at him as he had to give credit where it was due, that hit was absolutely incredible and he wanted to lift up his teams spirits and keep the fire burning.

Aw, bollocks. In the flurry of gameplay too tumultuous to track, there is a brief, shining moment where it seems as though, perhaps, all may be well for the unsporting snake and his tritely serpentine ploys - yet like all beautiful junctures, it is fleeting, ultimately lamentable, and maroons the wretched young Rafal with nothing but doleful regrets and a certain haunting wistfulness which leaves the overall sum much to be desired. Oh, the injustice of it all! Why must calamity so often fall upon those who manoeuvre unjust means in a wild gamble to achieve their solipsistic goals?

And indeed, it appears as though the perfidious Chaser’s inauspicious dome of bad cess has now stretched to envelop his pitiful peers; for as the boy gradually curbs movement in the air - alas reduced to irking impotence for the time being - he sweeps his dismal gaze over the ineffability that the hallowed pitch has become, and decides right then are there, that this supposed Round One can now formally be renamed from here on forth, replaced instead with an appellation which in lieu may truly capture the essence of what this discombobulation of a game is transmogrifying into. Thunderbolt Extirpation.

Despite being benched, Riley was actually having a great time. She smiled and waved at her teammates one last time before the game started. She was at the edge of her seat, especially since it was her first game. She hasn’t officially spectated a game before, but she had always wanted to. She supposed this was the best possible way to watch a game.

Riley felt the wind in her face and closed her eyes for a second, breathing the fresh air in. Then the action started. Riley cheered, pumping her fists in the air ”Whoo! Go Thunderbolts, get ‘em!” Riley shouted. She understood that some of her teammates were too preoccupied in the game to hear her, but she didn’t mind. She hoped it could motivate at least one of her teammates to take the lead.

Riley winced. So far, her team hadn’t gotten any points. ”Come on!” Riley shouted into the pitch. She sighed when the opposite team seized the quaffle. Riley patted down her crazy hair and tucked her curtain bangs behind her ears. It was a bit warm, mostly humid. But very windy. Hopefully her team would fair better in the second round, but as of now, they were losing.

Do you ever feel like a misfit?
✪ Everything inside you is dark and twisted ✪
She...was still alive...?

SHE WAS STILL ALIVE.

As the game started and bludgers began to fly, Poppy had felt her muscles tensing. She knew she had to keep her head in the game, focusing on finding the snitch before the other team's seeker could, but it was hard. When you knew what you could expect, it made everything else a little more terrifying – and distracting by that virtue.

The distractions didn't end there. Zephyr had taken a nasty bludger to the side that caused the little girl to squeak, and Max had nearly taken out one of their chasers.

But she couldn't worry about that, could she? They were still on their brooms. For that matter, everyone was still on their broom with a job to do, and she had one, too. Finding the snitch. Unfortunately, Poppy was realising...just how difficult locating it actually was while up there, seated in the midst of all that chaos. With all the moving parts and the snitch being so small, the first year could admit (quietly) that she was a bit daunted.

The seeker ended the game. The snitch was 150 points. That...in hindsight...was a lot of pressure to put on herself for her first-ever match – unofficial as it was.

She tried to concentrate, scanning the pitch, but inevitably the girl became distracted again by their beast of a chaser. One goal after another, it was truly mesmerising. "Nice, Harlan!" she screamed before she could catch herself. Don't ask her where the shout came from. Caught up in the moment, it had crawled its way free before she could contain it. The girl pulled inward for a moment before realising that...in such a high-speed game...such small things were hardly noticed.

It was its own relief, allowing the warmth of her cheeks to quickly fade. Poppy shook her head. She had to focus. There was a snitch somewhere, and the sooner she found it, the sooner she could avoid an unpleasant outcome for anyone.

As soon as the whistle blew, everything moved faster than Zephyr expected. He had not gotten enough time to properly track the Quaffle before the game shifted completely. Harlan took control of the quaffle instantly, the guy moved with a speed and confidence he could only admire. One goal, then another, then another, he couldn’t help following the flow of the game rather than actually help shaping it himself. Harlan was pretty impressive he whistled to cheer him on too. With everything going on, he tried keeping up with what’s happening, still alert and prepared just in case the quaffle came his way or someone else needed his assistance. He was in that state when something hit his side.

A bludger came his way instead before he even saw it coming. A loud whack followed by his grunt of pain, the impact knocked the air out of his lungs, and his grip on his broom tightened as his body jerked sideways. For a while there, his vision blurred, and he nearly lost control of his balance but he told himself not to fall and not let go of his broom. That was the only thought in his head. He forced himself upright on his broom although his breathing became uneven and his side still in pain. It hurt so much but he told himself to focus on the game. Speaking of, the game didn’t slow down their awesome chaser as the guy continuously score. He swallowed the pain and maintained his balance on his broom, eyes refocusing on the pitch. He wouldn’t just give up without trying hard.
