Hufflepuff vs Ravenclaw: Match 2

Haven stared down at her wand in disbelief. "Ohhh my goodness I am SO SORRY! I can't believe that happened. Oh gosh. Good one Haven, you really made a purple hippopotamus of everything," she huffed. "Are you guys still okay? I can't really see you... Guys, where am I? I think I'm going to fall off the piste. Do we get disqualified if that happens? Lea?? I don't remember the rules! HELP!" Haven held her hands out in front of her, trying to see where she was. She felt around the floor with her foot and took a very cautious step forward, just in case she did accidentally fall off the piste and disqualified her team. She didn't remember that being part of the rules, but she didn't remember it not being a part of the rules, either, and she thought better safe than sorry. Honestly, you would think that after a year of duelling and consistent duelling practices that Haven would remember the rules by now, but really, she could barely cast a spell. Evident by her recent performance, apparently.
Hufflepuff vs Ravenclaw: Match 2

Jake HATED the beginning of duels - as soon as the duel began, spells would fly like crazy and it was hard to aim when you were also trying not to get pelted. This one was particularly chaotic, because not only did the platform begin to fill with fog, but Jake felt dizzy as gravity seemed to shift. He blinked through the fog, only to feel the very odd and unpleasant sensation that he was hanging from the ceiling, upside down. Luckily he had enough experience with dueling spells to know what was happening and not panic - it was a limbo mist spell, a GOOD one too. Knowing that might have made it bearable, but it didn't make it fun.
It was even less fun when firecrackers started being pelted at him. Jake tried his best to dodge, and also to not throw up, and also to not cough. There was a lot going on at once. Luckily he never knew that his own team-mate had backfired, because there was so much going on he couldn't tell what was happening. "Guys, stay calm we gotta regroup! Jake shouted, but it wasn't the most convincing through the edge of nerves in his voice.

Strike x1
After sending the badgers to space - figuratively, as Pyxis could still see at least one of them on the piste - the Ravenclaws did nothing with their achieved advantage. They looked a bit adrift. Only Damion moved some, but still missed out on casting. And yet, despite their pause, they faced no attack from the Hufflepuffs who were almost keen on taking themselves out. Lea, not lost in the fog, felt the toll that Cassius’ Vario Nebula took on her composure as her Knockback Jinx fizzled out in front of her. A bit expected, since Pyxis wasn’t sure if she knew what her direction her opponents were standing in. In the same position and also blanketed by the dark clouds, Jake’s spell not only failed to cross the piste, but shot back at him and started up an ache on his upper torso. Haven had more success than her teammates and Pyxis was grateful for it. It was like the fog had been blasted away as the badger moved her wand, giving both herself and Jake some reprieve.
“Thanks for that, Bohannon. And er... look alive, Ravenclaws!”

Hufflepuff vs Ravenclaw: Match 2
She hadn't slept well the night before, anxious about the game. Anastasia wasn't really a stressed out person, but she was a perfectionist and she didn't want to repeat her first duel. She didn't want to get knocked out that early in the match. A wind jinx came up from the Hufflepuff side, and the wind got her mind back into the present. Her disarming charm failed, but let's just say it was a warm up shot.
Then as she was thinking about what spell could destabilize the opposing team, two of them tried casting a jinx that either didn't work or backfired. "Thanks for that, Bohannon. And er... look alive, Ravenclaws!" Yeah? Well my bad, it's in my genes to kinda look dead.

Damion seemed to be distracted by the fact that it was on this day. He's rather be in the arms of his lover than fighting the duel here. But Damion had no control over this so here he was. He and his team seemed to be a little out of it but despite that they had managed to stay alive and stay safe kinda.

thank you alyssea/verity for the banner!
Take back what she said, apparently spellcasting was the tricky part. Lea had adjusted the spell level for her new disorientation, mind still reeling from the change in gravity and sudden explosion, yet it didn't seem to matter. Even something as simple as the Knockback Jinx only sent a hiss of warning before dying on her wand. At least the Ravenclaws seemed to be at a standstill but it didn't help that her own team seemed to be doing the most harm to itself.

After a confident first salvo of spells, Cassius froze. It was a rare occurrence for the normally focused duellist. Something about the first round made him pause. Hesitate. Not fear, but something else. A miscalculation on his part? Or something worse? Whatever it was, he would continue.
They were still in a decent spot and Cassius prepared himself to show up for his team.
Action:
As strategized.
WANDMAKER (ROUGAROU HAIR)Reducio• 10% of the damage done by a "dark" spell is done to a target that was successfully hit by a dark spell every round for the duration of the thread. This is considered to be "bleeding" and can be countered with the bandaging charm.
• In Duelling: This bleeding effect is limited to 4 rounds. If hit by another dark spell in the meantime, the bleeding effect is replaced with the new one.
• On a critical success with a "dark" spell, a second target (only if defined by the caster before this has been rolled) can be targeted, if no secondary target is declared then nothing happens.
• -10% damage done with non-dark spells.
Hufflepuff vs Ravenclaw: Match 2
Jake blushed as his own wand backfired and he hit himself with his own knockback jinx. If sailing back from a knockback jinx was tough, try doing it feeling like you were upside down...
He had to blame that bizarre upside-down feeling for why he had managed to fail so horribly at casting one of the most fundamental spells - he didn't want to think it could just be that even in his seventh year he STILL couldn't cast reliably.
No, who COULD be expected to cast (sort of) upside down!
He gritted his teeth and tried to re-focus, not letting the slight embarrassment throw him off too heavily
Hufflepuff vs Ravenclaw: Match 2
Haven blew at the fog, as if it were going to do something, but luckily, her spell seemed to work this time around. She couldn't say the same for her teammates' spells though. They were definitely not having the luck she would have liked at the start of this duel. Maybe she should've gotten a whole team's supply of lucky socks, though she thought the ones she was wearing had enough for them all. They really needed to step up and do their jobs.

While the Hufflepuffs were still disoriented amidst the gold mist, Cassius held back on casting something that would hurt and chose to set his teammates up for success instead. He unleashed a Trip Jinx that wrapped around Lea’s ankles and sent her stumbling. Senses already muddled, Pyxis thought this was the nail in the coffin for the not-seventh year. But Anastasia dropped a group of spectacular crackers nowhere near the badgers. As the bright explosions went off harmlessly beside the Hufflepuff team, Damion seized the moment to strike. He sent a Disarming Charm towards both Lea and Haven, and both girls lost their grips on their wands.
Before that could happen though, the badgers sent their own spells to accost the Ravenclaws. They had no more success than their opponents however as Anastasia narrowly avoided being slammed by Jake’s Knockback Jinx and Haven’s spell couldn’t even make it across the piste. Lea conjured her own set of crackers which Cassius and Damion neatly avoided. Anastasia, target of the bout it seemed, could not avoid the spell as the crackers landed right at her feet.
