Two new servers, and the addition of a CDN
Hello everyone,
Several site outages in recent days have prompted me to move the site to a new server, for the first time in over three years. I hope this move will resolve the problems encountered.
Above all, I've decided to stop hosting hogwarts.io on the same server as poudlard.fr, the French site from which it originated.
We are now hosted on a dedicated server located in the USA, more precisely in Hillsboro, Oregon. This server will be closer to all our American users, who make up the vast majority of the site's visitors.
This decision doubles the cost (logically!) and significantly increases maintenance time, since I've had to adapt my methods to maintain two servers rather than one. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank once again the donors, on both sites, who help me finance the hosting
Of course, you come from all over the world and until now, being far from the server meant longer loading times. So I'm experimenting with the Cloudflare CDN Cloudflare: it aims to make images and scripts available more quickly by duplicating them on servers near you, and should therefore speed up site loading - all the more so if you're far from North America.
