"Fear is a snare that prevents us from moving forward,
Fear makes us an easy bait for the devil"
This thread is a part of the Tenūsa Open Day Event 2025
It was disheartening to learn that the Tenūsa event was just yet another glorified attempt to end the poor students of the wizarding worlds lives. Sometimes it felt like every ball, every event, every second of their lives was spent in constant danger and for many of the students it was getting tiresome. Still that did not mean they had time to stop, they could lament over the troubles over their lives when everyone was safe. A reality that was far from the truth at present.

The screams were like a banshees call, and yet screaming still meant that those unfortunate enough to be taken were still alive, that they still had breath. A small victory in a calamity of tragedy. Gathering outside of their wagons and houses a large group of students would find themselves uniting, all witness to the devastation of their homesteads and the village itself. Even here on the outskirts it was apparent that the picturesque village they had just discovered a night ago was now a pale reflection of the life it had.

Black inky tendrils slinked all over the buildings breaking wood and devastating the nature as they retreated further into the village with victims ensnared. Students of all ages had been captured and were entirely at the will of the entity unless the remaining survivors could reach them, could help them survive. Following the path of the creatures destruction the escapees would find an eerily open courtyard where no vines seemed to be forming but upon looking up they were met by a most horrific sight. In the grasp of 6 thick vines @Cyrus Darsel, @Elias Travers, @Alphonse Toussaint, @Ruth Fairchild, @Sabrina Lyons, and @Livia Machavariani dangled in the air, still restrained by the dark constricting vines.

The true threat had yet to reveal itself however but it was painted on each and every one of their faces. For rather than staring at their fellow students in desperation, they seemed to be locked upon the jungle treeline where a collection of vines and roots were beginning to shift and twist. In seconds the mass of black ichor formed into a creature of nightmare, a blight of vines and decay that towered above the remaining students as high as the suspended victims. At least 25 feet tall it was a terror to behold and it shrieked with the screams of its victims, and within an instant it was moving towards them tearing at plant life with the hunger of a beast.

Its intentions were clear, this thing was bound for the attack, but would the students be able to stop it, or would they just become more victims.
Welcome To Stage 2
For all our traveller wagon and rumah adat homestead dwellers your challenge comes with danger but glory. Find a way to save the 5 endangered students, or for those victims brave enough to try, help rescue yourselves. Take down the creature together and discover the source that lies beyond deeper in the jungle.

Vines cover the streets and jungle canopy around and within Omah Geni like some kind of tainted infection. Vile screams linger deeper into the jungle past the city where the school is rumoured to be but despite meeting up with your fellow students you find your path blocked by a behemoth entity instilling terror and devouring as it feasts upon the jungle and anyone it can find.

Something wasn't right. After making sure that his parents were okay and spending time with them, he was bothered by another fact that he couldn't stay still in a peaceful manner. Was it really a coincidence? No one really knew until the horror was heard loud and clear.

"Stay inside," Lesmana said to his parents. Though they were more than capable of fighting anything that they might face outside the house, he didn't want to risk their life and his own sanity anymore. The man also couldn't stay still, due to the possibility that his students might be in danger. The man rushed to his room to prepare some supplies that he thought might be useful in this situation.

With deliberate movement, his fingers quickly picked some potion combinations: Calming Draught to help anyone relieve the stress of those who need it in a quick onset, Essence of Dittany for those who were injured, Erumpent Potion, which might be good to give wider offence, and Mopsus Potion... He didn't know what was outside. Having another set of powers might help him. He didn't forget his wand and put all of them inside his jacket. Once prepared, the man left his room. "I'll be back soon," he said it once last time before he stepped outside.

The outside world was far from what the village should be. He quickly assessed the tendrils on the buildings, and it surprised him. He didn't want to jump into conclusion, but if it was what he thought, he should be quick. Never in his life had he seen this vegetation grow this massively, let alone attack an open village. He wouldn't believe if this happened naturally, something must have happened behind this mahyem. Ignoring the vines on each building, he followed the black tendrils to find the main body.

He was led to an open yard. Fewer vines in sight, but something more horrifying was waiting. "How..." Lesmana took his wand quickly. Some students were hung by the vines in the sky while another creature was making havoc on the ground. Between releasing the students and stopping the monster, Lesmana was torn to make a decision.

Having reached a decision, he levelled his wand toward the creature. "Vincio!"

Akerrah had never experienced anything like this. The magical world had been overwhelming and confusing every damned day, but she'd never been terrified as she had been not one, but three members of the place she'd been staying had been snatched up into the air against their will. She didn't know magic could do that.

Despite a successful cast, she stayed in place for a moment, falling to her knees, unsure. Coming here had felt more comfortable than the mountains of Beauxbatons, but now...now it was some dark and twisted dream. Indeed, in the courtyard beyond her where the students were the vines were mixing with a black ichor. She had no idea what any of this was—or could be.

In the distance, she could see a man (@Lesmana Asmaralaya), alone, trying to stop the vines. She did not recognize him, but from the way he moved into action (and cast a spell she did not recognize), he had to be a teacher. That was good, but was it enough? Surely not.

And it wasn't like she could duck back into the wagon and wake up with everything fixed. Only a sociopath could sleep through screams like this. And as she stared out, she could feel that fuzziness as things started to blur. Shaking her head, she knew she had to do something besides watching in her pajamas. Reaching up, she grabbed a tea cup from the table in self defence while she still held her wand in her other hand.

Moving slowly, she ducked through what was left of their wagon. Beyond the teacher, she could see those who'd been abducted including @Ruth Fairchild, and @Alphonse Toussaint who'd been in her cabin. But the boy whose screams had awakened her was nowhere to be seen. The creature (or creatures?) made of vines and whatnot seemed ever present. But they were plants or had been, so she tried, "Diffindo," out towards the vines the black-haired girl who'd been in her wagon (Ruth). Swallowing, she had no idea if it would work or reach her, but in this situation, she was just going moment by moment.

Harvey crept out of the Rumah Adat with wand at the ready, but what met his eyes would stop him in his track. All around him it looked like the village had been overgrown in those terrible vines that had just attacked them in their sleep. The screams and shouts of terror made his stomach clench and the hairs stand up on the back of his neck. It was unlike anything Harvey had ever felt before. For the first time in his life he was in serious danger. It felt like falling almost. As if the fear were an unstoppable force just like gravity. His dark eyes drifted back towards Harlan in a desperate search of something to keep him safe, but as his eyes shifted back to the scene before him, Harvey would finally remember to breathe.

With the breath of air filling his lungs came a bit of clarity. It was quick at first, but then settled into a normal rhythm. Harvey wiped the beads of sweat away from his brow and focused. It wouldn't do any good to crumble and there was no where to run. His first step forward felt like he was wearing concrete shoes, but his paces did lead him towards a courtyard in which he saw two others. Safety in numbers he thought, but as his eyes adjusted to the night it would become clear that he had awoken to a nightmare.

Wild tendrils rose high into the air and within their grasp were people who had not escaped the attack earlier. Many of the faces Harvey knew. They were his peers, they were his friends. Ruth, Livia. They meant something to the boy and this moment was surely their end. What came next would be surprise Harvey when he thought back on this fateful night. His grasp grew firm as he held his wand before him. His steps were solid and swift as he rushed onto the scene. There was a courage here that he had never known before. Perhaps there was a bit of Gryffindor in everyone.

"Professor Asmaralaya!" Harvey was so relieved there was an adult and one in which he knew well. "What do we do?!" He took up a position next to the Potion master as the ground began to shake. "Oh no..." The hulking monster that came crashing out of the treeline would surely be the end of them all, but Harvey found inspiration in the actions of the others. Especially the girl that jumped right into the fight. "Yes, cut them down! Fire worked before. I'll try it again!" Harvey called out to her. He held his wand high and aimed for the creatures center mass. "Incendio!"

Huh okay it wasnt anything they expected. The blow of being wrong didn't really hit Hanako as it might have on others. He was always wrong, and what did he care about what some duelling teammates and 2 kids thought about his compentancy as a senior? Hanako felt that it was already asking a lot from him when it came to just hoping they wouldn't die. This over sleep? Wow he is like - the best senior ever. Where was his best senior medal? Maybe he could ask for it after this whole ordeal is done. After they had finished surviving … whatever this was. Right now, he was busy quelling his actual nerves under stupid comments and jokes in his head and a lot of jumping between yelling and being sarcastic.

After he and Jack realised they was little they could do with the vines, they hadn't said much. Didn't feel like there was a need to fill up the silence with useless words. Only rushing to get their boots and jackets. He had even quickly swiped a herbicide potion, since spells hadn't been working well enough. He brought this along in case the plants grew too much but never had he expected them to do… this. It was tucked safely in the small sling bag he had over his shoulder.

" So~" he started off cheerfully to his companies ( whomever decided to run along with him and Jack ), " No light, no slicing - what else should we try? Hugs and kisses? Perhaps all the solution to this is the magic of llllooooov ~ oh-" he jest was cut short by the unpleasant view of what seemed to be vines taking over a whole village. "that- that doesnt look…. fun " he muttered under his breath, feeling his heart race pick up. You know what that means! Distraction!

" Old man! Hey! Hey Old man!" Hanako called out witha frantic wave of his hand at the only present adult available. Which was the potions professor. Old man was a lot more easier to say than Professor Lesmana. " Whats that? - and how do we like - not die? ". Words seems so irrelevent when adraneline was through the roof. Lord Hanako hoped he didn't say something dumb like 'its not safe go back', considering they were in a safe area and still got attacked. There didnt seem to be a lot of people here to help so far. Whats that? Like 2 kids? 3?

Still in his nightclothes, the Seer swiftly made his exit from the ensnared rumah adat houshold and brandished his chestnut wand with a low remnant glow of Lumos Solem lighting the way just enough to make out silhouettes until his eyes could utilize the full light of the pregnant moon overhead. Devil's snare, of all things. Devil's snare. He was quite familiar with the ill-tempered plant due primarily to the fact that the estate had cultivated the vegetation within their border hedges to not only prevent thieves and muggles from traipsing upon their land but also to give the more pleasing foliage a reliable "backbone" to grow from.

This, however, was not the reason that the gleam in his eye seemed to hearken to a man maddened. The reason, instead, was because of what he feared may have befallen another that was in attendance in this school event. He had to find the residence, had to make sure that nothing happened to that infernal child.

But he stopped dead in his tracks at the sight of the aberration that rose to its full height before himself and a small collective of others that had eluded the fate of being trapped within their homesteads. This thing, unlike the Devil's Snare, was not one that he recognized nor imagined was common in the magical world in nature. In its grasp were five young students.

For a moment, the light in his wand flared with the subconscious emotion of irritation. This thing was in his way. A muscle in his jaw tightened as his face transformed into a shadowy scowl. Already those around him were acting against the creature, in efforts to free those that were snarled in its great black vines. This would not do. This would not do at all.

Running through the spells in his capability to cast, he finally settled on one and with an intention in mind. Just as he was about to cast, a teenager suddenly rushed towards him. Even from a distance, the Seer could see the panicked gleam in his eyes. Reflexively, he threw out a hand to keep the child at a distance with a burning fire of determination in his piercing glare, but the boy took his hand and began to speak quickly and almost incoherently. "Shh!" He snapped back. This was not the moment for tears or a show of weakness. "Not now. Time enough for this later. Help, or get behind me. Find others if you can, if you can stay safe. Stay safe." He ordered, taking the boy by the shoulder and guiding him behind his back.

"Mister Dove,"

He spun back towards the boy. He had only been called by that moniker by one individual, many years ago. His eyes narrowed. "Mister Marchonné." He hissed back. Nonvenomously, but tersely. Noé's nephew, and by a confusing extension a child distantly of the Chiadovini bloodline. Even more of a reason to get him out of the way. "Now is not the time."

Before the child could retort, he refocused his intention on the creature and whipped his wand harshly about himself once before incanting with a steady gaze and aim. "Incendens... Funis!" He demanded the arcane to obey him with the intention of snaring one of the creature's arms or "heads" with a conjured rope of flame, particularly any that were attempting to threaten the hostages it held. With any luck it would at least temporarily distract the being, and at best perhaps it would cause it some kind of pain to direct its attention towards himself. He did not, however, trust his own strength. It was very likely that if he did bind it, it would not remain bound by him for long by use of his bodily strength I do not know if this spell uses Strength or Arcane Power to scale the "binding" capacity of the fire rope, so I hope it's ArcPower....

So he grit his teeth and furrowed his brows, a slight sweat forming between the atmosphere of Oceania's climate and the amount of focus he was contributing the spell.

It wouldn't hold forever. Eventually he would need to find another "in". So he searched.

Damien looked around and noticed that a few people from his group was here as well as some from another group but a few was missing in his group noticeably Ruth and Alphonse which had him worried, luckily he would get his answer as he looked up and noticed some type of monster had them trapped in vines but it wasn’t just them Damien saw trapped but a bunch of other students as well but one person in particular made Damien gasp in fright. It was Cyrus Darsel a boy Damien had grew close friends with since the last time they talked. Damien was torn between what he should do as he had to help both him and Alphonse since Akerrah seemed to already be freeing Ruth or attempting to at least.

Damien made the decision he would ffjrst save Alphonse since he was like a big brother to him before heading to free Cyrus as he wouldn’t leave either one of them behind no matter what he refused to not save them both. As he moved towards the vines that held Alphonse as he held out his wand pointing them at the vines need him before casting the spell. “Incendio!” He yelled as he prayed it would help free Alphonse so that way he could make sure he could save Cyrus.

The transition was swift, quicker than Sabrina would have expected. One moment she was inside, fighting against an enemy alongside those that had become her temporary roomates, the other she was outside, alone, wrapped in an iron clad vine prison that dragged her deeper into the darkness of the not-yet-ending night. During the short journey, the girl struggled to orientate herself, recognize right from left, up from down, ground from air. Soon the only constant in her surroundings became the very vines that had ensnared her.

It was only them, and a slight breeze that inevitably came with being outside near an ocean, she felt as she found herself hanging head down from.. somewhere? "What, where.." Squinting to will her eyes to adapt, Sabrina tried to assess the new situation she found herself in. She was surprised to find that she infact wasn't completaly alone, and that there were five more bodies hanging besides her, some of which she might've recognized if not for the sparseness of light. Tilting her head up to look down, she saw that they were stationed above some sort of a park - or courtyard, was it? Either way, they were high up, with nothing around them to grab at. All her thoughts slipped her mind the moment she heard a deafening roar, her gaze drawn to a more immidiate life threatening matter - a giant vine beast breaking it's way out of the near forest.

Starstruck, the girl couldn't help but just stare. Stare at the danger making it's way towards them. It took an awful shriek from said giant to snap her out of the strange trance. "Oh no- fuck no," she whispered before glaring at the vines that circled her, the intensity in her stare almost enough to make them combust, "God damnit - crap! - let go you snarky, slimy, old piece of shit! Bloody- sod off bastard!" despite her mother's stern lectures in her early years of life, Sabrina now swore like a drunken sailor, all while fighting against the organic shackles with a newfound vigor.

"Fear is a snare that prevents us from moving forward,
Fear makes us an easy bait for the devil"
MODERATION ROUND ONE
The sight that had transfixed our daring witches and wizards gaze was not for the feint of heart and yet remarkably each and every one of those heroes faced it head on without hesitation. It was in the heart of panic that the true qualities of ones character shone through the brightest, and my did they shine.

Having secured safety for his family @Lesmana Asmaralaya's worries were far from over. For while his parents may have been safe in their ancestral home, the family he had formed through his work were out there in danger. Students that he had come to appreciate for all their quirks, students he had yet to have the pleasure of meeting, students incapable of defending themselves. The skilled professor would not dare abandon them to whatever lay outside, his duty of care would not allow it nor would his devotion to those he swore to protect. For teachers were more than just educators, they were the guardians of these young wizards and witches, the kind of people that led by example and so he would. Drawing his wand he called upon the very magic of this ancient isle itself to aid him in his time of need. Shouting Vincio into the darkness of the jungle trees began to gnarl and writhe forming restraints that bound around the lower portion of the creatures body while the earth below cracked sinking it further into its new shackles.

From behind a smaller voice emerged yet with no less drive and power. @Akerrah Koné had been subject to the horror of witnessing not one, but three of her homestead companions dragged away into the night by these vile contortions of nature but it did not slow her tracks, she was the very proof that Beauxbatons were far from the delicate flowers they were portrayed as. She did not have time to contemplate the many absurdities of this creature, she had to save her friends and although not all of them were here that was a problem for later. Though the screams of that first boy still rang in her head, the speed of it instilling fear that if they took too long it may be too late for him. Bracing her wand the girl flung a nasty severing charm towards the vine with all the intention of slicing it clean off and miraculously she did just that. Coiled in the restraints of Lesmana's creation the vine could not evade the incoming attack and as the spell hit its mark the vine holding @Ruth Fairchild collapsed to the ground. A momentary victory that would quite suddenly be cut short as the severed appendage did not let go as it fell but began to slither past the creature taking Ruth with it.

Next came the little goblin boy who had bravely fought off the vines and come swinging for more. He was not a lion by the hats mind, bravery was not an inherent quality, but that was of no matter it seemed. For in that moment @Harvey Barrows was just as courageous as any Gryffindor. Whether driven by the loyalty for his friends or the natural instinct of adrenaline he recalled his triumph with fire in the homestead and launched a hurling mass of fire at the creatures centre. As it struck the bound plant writhed in agony slashing about in wild motions as it was engulfed in fiery wounds. Burning a hole straight through the middle of it Harvey's no doubt thrill at a successful spell was dismayed when he saw what lurked behind the inky monster. Despite the limited vision of the dark surroundings the fire had illuminated a horrendous sight, for past the creatures a collection of students were being dragged off further into the jungle by vines similar in nature to Ruth's captor. In the dim light he couldn't make out any but the unconscious slump of @Matthew Campbell a notorious snake and former dorm mate. Yet as quick as his vision had been granted, the inky tendrils knit themselves back together reforming in tightly wound vines closing the hole he had created.

To say that @Hanako Tone had gotten limited success in protecting his younger homesteaders would be quite apparent given the fact that two were aloft, suspended in the air in the creature's grasp. Thus proved to make him unsure how to act, rather than casting another spell he looked to the elderly more senior wizard around for guidance. Lesmana was renowned for his skills and so surely they had to be more knowledgeable than he, to which degree he was clearly proving in his restraints that still bound the entity in place despite its clear want to move forth and consume. Though Hana's question would be answered from a rather unlikely source. As he held his wand in his hand unsure what to do it radiated with the flow of magic within as if it was raring to attack. Rougarou hair cores being commonly associated with the dark arts and aligning with the emotions of the situations its master found itself in was roaring from the agitation of those around it. Yet it was the dark connection that proved more useful, Hana couldn't be certain what degree this malignance of plant life had been distorted with, but one thing was clear. The plant was infused deeply with dark magic, and as such perhaps it was the key to ending it.

As if the terrors of the creature hadn't been enough to turn the stomachs of those present in the dark of the night, a menacing presence took up the rear as @Leonardo Chiadovini stalked through the space. The former Hogwarts professor was infamous for many reasons and whatever his business on the island was could not currently be the focus of importance, for simply put, all involved were lucky to have another capable adult at their aid. Despite his terse response and distinct lack of pleasantries to those belonging to his own bloodline Leonardo was a master with his wand having bonded it over many years of servitude. Thus when the fiery chords ripped from it almost mocking the incendio Harvey had so successfully cast, it did not simply restrain but dismembered the entity in four clean cuts before twisting around them and pulling them apart in attempt to prevent their reformation. Such a mastery of fire magic might have been awe inspiring if the situation were not so tense but for now the creature was not just unable to move but unable to regenerate and that could prove detrimental. Though such success would not come without draw back.

@Damien Dragonclaw weaved his way through the maze of tendril and magic desperate to save that which he considered a brother. @Alphonse Toussaint was typically not the kind of lad you wanted to mess with if you didn't expect repercussions but he seemed to be utterly silent in the suffocating grasp of the creature an thus Damien had to be the protector this time. Taking inspiration from the blaze of fiery glory that was raging all around him he aimed his wand ready to burn Alphonse free, but as he aimed the ground began to tremor with all the rage of Gaia herself. Leonardo's threat would not go unanswered and caught in the crossfire would be Damien's spell that fizzled out when his wand movement went askew as a small fissure opened beneath him. Elsewhere ruptures of thick black vines burst from the ground with dagger like thorns that struck at Lesmana, Akerrah, Harvey and Leonardo who all but Akerrah fell victim to the piercing slice of the carving thorns. As soon as they had emerged they retreated back into the earth causing more tremors to radiate as they hid within the earth ready to strike.

Of all our victims only one Ms @Sabrina Lyons put any effort into attempting escape and though it would prove futile she was defiant in her unwillingness to go without a fight. While Ravenclaw were known for their brains she was proving her most that they were more than capable of their brawn. Still without any assistance and with no wand to aid her she fell short and felt as her wriggling only made the tendrils sink deeper into her skin constricting her so much that her vision was beginning to grow as darkened as the vines ensnaring her. Still she couldn't give up, with so many people here someone had to come to her aid. Lest she be doomed to the fate of those that lay below. From her vantage point in the air with illumination of the fiery ropes she could now see the visage of her friend in the grasp of the creature and those further into the bush that were already taken. The only question was to where? One way or another she was going to find out, but would she be standing pressing on with the rest of our heroes, or dragged against her will by this monstrous abomination?

Ensnared: Stage 2 - Moderation Round 1
Summary:
  • The creature has been restrained in its lower half by Lesmana's spell.
  • Ruth was freed by Akerrah but only from the main creature, the tendril still holding her is now pulling her behind.
  • Harvey's fire blasted a hole through it revealing more students being dragged deeper into the jungle, yet the magic of the creature seemed to reknit itself back together.
  • Hana discovered through the connection with his wand that the creature was imbued with dark magic.
  • Leonardo was not only able to restrain the creature but the fiery ropes were so powerful they dismembered the creature into four equal parts holding them separately. This however enraged it causing it to move thorned vines through the ground that lashed out at Harvey, Leonardo, Lesmana and Akerrah hitting 3 out of 4.
  • Damien's attempt to free Alphonse was prevented when the eruption of the vines caused him to stumble and fail his casting.
  • Sabrina tried her hardest to wriggle free but the vines only tightened around her, darkening her vision.
  • The creature's health is unknown but Leonardo making it unable to reform seems to be weakening it.

As Damien casted his spell the ground suddenly began to shake, as he tried to keep himself steady his spell sadly fizzled out. Once the ground was settled again he looked to notice he hadn’t managed to free Alphonse at all which kinda made Damien feel even more useless at the moment. “Aww come on are you kidding me!” He let out a little groan as he tried to figure out just what the heck he was going to do. He still had the problem of trying to save both Cyrus and Alphonse and he was currently closer and near Alphonse so he made the best outcome to try and free him again before working his way to Cyrus.

He tried to think about what spell he could use before two came to mind, the first one was diffindo, it was the best outcome as long as it landed of course as it would cut the vines freeing Alphonse and Cyrus and made the most sense. Then there was flipendo. He thought if he used this spell the force of the knock back would break or loosen the vines allowing him to free them without worrying about any accidents happening.

As he thought the possibilities he knew diffindo was the right call for right now and he would worry about what could go wrong later. He looked over at Cyrus before giving him words of encouragement.“Don’t worry Cyrus I’ll be there soon!”He held his wand out before saying the incantation. “Diffindo!” He shouted praying that it would work this time.
