Originally in fourth place after the first half of their programme, De Varenne and Merrick stunned with beautifully synchronised single lutz jumps, a clothing colour change, and a snowflake charm that was so perfect it genuinely made a judge tear up. Their unexpected lead would be hard to break. The next pair had equally cryable music, causing nods of favouritism amongst the judging panel, but Vinogradova fell out of her quad axel and failed to cast any spell, whilst Winfield managed to land her jump and cast a pretty spray of snowflakes. Similarly, Astor fell from his double axel and Lancaster landed hers, the former casting blue sparks and the latter snowflakes to win some magical points. The Actions
Tied for second place after the first half, Manjunath and Evans abandoned synchronisation in favour of a successful double waist hold lift, both girls spraying magical blue sparks as they did so to keep them in their current second place. The next pair saw confusion as Noxley seemed to stop dead on the ice, whilst his partner Everhart completed a single salchow and created some magical bubbles to regain some points at least. Hoping to redeem themselves after the first half, all-male pair Yan and Pass showed off their fearlessness in a double death spiral, the former also casting some green sparks and the latter some snowflakes.
Graham and Lerelle worked hard to synchronise their single toe-loop jumps, the two girls casting a lovely shower of Christmas-coloured sparks over themselves to end their programme. Next up came the other pair that had been tied for second place, Takahashi and Xiang, whose outfits caused appreciative murmurs from throughout the judging panel; these two Hogwarts girls crashed into first place with beautifully synchronised quad upright spins and equally gorgeous blue sparks charms, knocking everyone else down one slot. Their lead would be even harder to beat.
Sure enough, no one could beat it. Hills and Murphy gained their first points of the night with matching snowflake spells, though their triple twist lift did not quite go as planned; the other costume favourites, Clark and De'Luca, pulled off a lovely single waist hold lift and a pair of snowflake spells, but could not quite reach the podium despite the interest captured by their outfits.
The first-placers after the first half, Forville and Gray, at first seemed that they would hold onto their gold medal with a double twist lift that had the audience gasping for breath, but even the former's colour-changing outfit could not take away from what happened next: an ugly explosion of greenish-blue from the latter's wand, spraying their costumes in a shower of sparks that burned to the touch. With this spell gone wrong, this Hogwarts pair would fall from medal contention altogether. The final pair of the night saw Caussade fall out of her double lutz and attempt a spell she clearly did not know, whilst partner Toussaint managed a triple camel spin and some cast snowflakes to get them some points, at least.
Hogwarts would absolutely sweep this section of figure skating, claiming all three medals of gold (Takahashi and Xiang), silver (De Varenne and Merrick), and bronze (Manjunath and Evans)! The medalists would have to wait to officially gather their winnings, however, until the awards ceremony at the weekend.
