Getting To Know
Dennis continued down the aisle and had already ducked under a table to avoid a certain dangerous plant by the time the small child warned about a “Vanessa,” whatever that was. The red head was much too clever to be caught by whatever a fellow mischief maker had planned. He did, however, have the feeling he was being stalked. He didn’t look around to figure out who or what it was. Maybe it was the pip-squeak, or maybe Professor Asmaralaya was following him after so brazenly calling attention to his attempt to avoid notice. He was too focused on getting some of that sweet sweet toadstool while the Herbology professor was out. The chatter from behind him at the entrance seemed to swell as more and more students arrived. He had better finish his business or else because it was only a matter of time before his little escapade caught more attention than he wanted.
Having come out from crawling under a table, he thought he was well out of range of whatever a Vanessa was. Dennis made the mistake of looking behind him as he continued his way to the back of the greenhouse. When he finally turned around he found himself face to face with a venomous tentacula! Apparently the infinite amount of dangerous plants he had dodged were not in fact a “Vanessa.” It, however, seemed to know exactly what to do and sensed he approached too closely. The tentacled plant took a swipe at the Ravenclaw who dodged deftly to the side. That was a close one! He needed to get past this pest. Did he drop his notes to get his wand? But that would mean soggy notes…what Ravenclaw worth their feathers would do such a thing? It wasn’t until the plant stuck again that he realized he hadn’t dodged out of its range. Dennis stumbled back on his heels clutching his notes but his indecision cost him dearly as the plants teeth grazed down on his flailing arm. The tentacle met mostly the fabric of his robe but the searing pain he felt was enough to tell him that he was going to be in trouble.
Still refusing to drop his notes, and still not completely out of range of the plant, Dennis thought his next move should be to dive under the table again and continue on his way. However, once again, he waited to long and the quick whips of the tentacula named “Vanessa” came at him again, this time aimed at his throat! Farewell, Dennis Tumberton, there is only one sweet sweet Gryffindor that will possibly miss you!
Something hit him though like a bullet, with a sharp pain in his side, the red head wander went ricocheting away from the plant, flying helplessly against the side of one of the tables and landing in a bundle of robes safely away from this “Vanessa.” The only thing the boy registered was being picked up like a bag of rice being carried. By the time he realized he was back with the group at the entrance, his arm had stopped burning and there was suddenly not 1 but 2 professors now in the gaggle of onlookers. “Mr. Tumberton, you are as tenacious as ever but perhaps next time care more about your life than your notes,” came a gruff familiar voice as he was also let go and fell to the ground, this time like a sack of potatoes.

Getting To Know
Makaio had been doing what he normally did around that time, especially when he was without classes. The oversized Transfiguration Professor was well known by this point for his green thumb. He had a fast friendship with the previous herbology professor and often helped tend to the plants while she was busy with preparing for the birth and subsequent care of her child. In fact, several of the rarer species in the greenhouse were rescued by his hand - what a small world it was, a fact that Professor Kāne and Professor Toussaint marveled at. Today, however, the mongoose was nestled in-between some of the pots unbeknownst to all present. It was warm and humid, two of his favorite things especially in the uncomfortable cold of the UK winter. He was an island boy through and through and there was no place like the herbology greenhouses of Hogwarts for a nap in the cold months!
His little siesta was sorely interrupted, however, when some mangey student shifted the pots he was napping behind. He couldn’t catch a break! The little mongoose peaked one eye open and if he was in any other form he would have groaned, however as a furry little animal it came out as a soft purr. This joker, again. The amount of times he had to fix this student’s errant spell casting in his classes is innumerable at this point. However, he did make good practice for demonstrating transfiguration to classes. He all at once admired the Ravenclaw for his ability to be up fro anything and regretted horribly knowing him at all in situations like this. Knowing people made the small guy feel responsible for them. He didn’t immediately do anything though as he watched Dennis Tumberton, with a smug look, think he was out of harms way.
Makaio stretched his little legs, knowing he would be needed and loped between the pots and bags of soil. He positioned himself just in time to see the surprisingly nimble-for-being-so-dense student dodge out of the way of Vanessa’s first strike. Well done, Mr. Tumberton! Or at least Makaio would have continued being impressed if the boy hadn’t stopped his momentum to look perplexed at the papers in his hand. “Draw your wand, you dolt!” Makaio said, or would have said, but it came out as a series of sweet little chirps and clicks. Makaio’s sage advice fell on deaf ears though as this time the tentacula made contact! Maybe now Mr. Tumberton would cast some sort of transfiguration spell from the brand new transfiguration spell book that would get him out of this mess!
This was not to be as this scrawny-boy-who-eats-too-much failed to do anything at all. If Makaio didn’t act now he’d be complacent in watching a plant cut short a rather tenacious life. And act he did, with speed swifter than the average mongoose, Makaio hurled himself headlong into the side of Dennis’ ribs, knocking the boy off balance and flinging him harmlessly out of the way of the plant. In one graceful movement, Makaio transformed into a burly bear of a man and with ease hoisted the downed Ravenclaw with one hand into a hold reminiscent of someone carrying groceries.
In the time it took to travel from where they were in the aisle to the others, Makaio had wordlessly cast both the healing charm, reparifors, and the clothes mending charm, reparo. The first healed the wound, and the second repaired Dennis' clothing so that all the damage on the boy and his clothing were completely repaired.
The Transfiguration Professor made it to the group that had formed while he snoozed and dropped the boy at their feet. “Mr. Tumberton, you are as tenacious as ever but perhaps next time care more about your life than your notes,” the large oversized man growled. He gave a nod Professor Asmaralaya, “I hope all is well in the dungeons, Professor.” Before fixing his gaze, ignoring the first years for now, on Professor Jurema, “ “Você deve ser a nova professora! (You must be the new Professor!) Professor Jurema, if I’m not mistaken? I never forget a name.”

Getting To Know
Iris wasn't used to being mistaken for a student, though she found it somewhat entertaining. Where she came from, everyone had known her since she was born, and although sometimes she hadn't been treated in the most friendly way, no one had ever mistaken her for anyone else, much less a student. Truth be told, she had only taught primary school children, and Iris might be small, but she wasn't that tiny! Therefore, the varied reactions to her presence had been noted with amusement, and Iris had smiled at them, choosing to let them reach their own conclusions instead of immediately introducing herself as the new Herbology professor.Greenhouse

But although this had given her some unexpected enjoyment, passing herself off as one of her students, Iris felt compelled to reveal herself when she noticed a Ravenclaw boy venturing among the roots and foliage instead of following the paths designed for safe walks through the different areas of the Greenhouse. The professor was almost absolutely certain he was heading in the direction where she had left Vanessa sunbathing for a little while. Due to the layer of snow that had settled on top of the greenhouse, the sun couldn't fully penetrate the white blanket covering the glass roof everywhere, and it was easier to penetrate effectively in certain areas.
Having given this warning, Iris decided that if the boy was smart, he would take a safer path, or at least pay attention to what he was doing. So the professor decided to pay more attention to the Gryffindor boy, who seemed to have a natural talent for Herbology, judging by how he was treating that Dittany in and how he handled the plants around him. Another young lioness appeared beside them, catching Max's attention. Iris raised her eyebrows at Flame, with a lightheartedly expression, when she appeared beside her and Max, "We haven't properly met alright! I'm Iris Jurema." She told Flame and Max, resting her hands on both sides of her hips, "Your new Herbology professor. Though you don't need to call me professor, my name is Iris." She finished with a grin sent to both.
Jurema noticed how Max's face seemed to light up when the boy realized she was his new professor. And the whispered words he had addressed to Flame made Iris laugh softly. The herbologist discreetly covered her smile with her hand upon hearing them, but her brown eyes shone with merriment. "Don't worry," She said cheerfully, waving her hand in a dismissive gesture, "I've already been impressed by how comfortable you seem among the plants in this greenhouse. I'm very happy to know your enthusiasm, little pumpkin." She said to him with a note of affection, gently patting him twice on the top of the head, shaking off a few more grains of dirt that had lingered among the strands of dark hair, "Let's see if I don't forget all those wonderful names you chose!"
Iris spun on her heels as the other Professor Asmaralaya joined them, looking up at him given the height difference between them. "Hello Professor, it's really nice to meet you!" She replied with her characteristic wide, bright smile that gave her a friendly yet somewhat mischievous air, given her stature and pointed ears, "Oh! Vanessa is my Venomous Tentacula!" She replied enthusiastically to all around her, including the shy young girl that also had arrived and joined them in the meantime, "My mother gave her to me when I graduated from Castelobruxo. I've had her since she was a tiny baby plant! Nothing to worry about, you just have to know how to handle her strong personality." Iris said casually, shrugging one of her shoulders. But her expression shifted to a slightly more thoughtful one, her eyebrows narrowing in gentle concentration as a memory surfaced, "Although there was a time, I remember that..."
Suddenly a commotion came from the other corner of the greenhouse, and the Herbology professor's words were interrupted. There was the sound of someone stumbling, some "Ohs!" and "Hahs!", the sound of magic being revealed and spells being cast, and someone flying towards one of the tables. Iris scratched the back of her head, "Seems like he met Vanessa..." She said in a thoughtful murmur, "I told him to be careful." Iris continued gently shaking her head and sighing.
The Herbology professor was about to grab her wand and head towards that side of the greenhouse, taking a few steps in that direction while searching in one of her belt pockets for the correct potion to use in that situation, when someone emerged from among the plants, grabbing the orange-haired boy in their arms and dropping him to the ground next to the group. Iris looked at the Ravenclaw boy, a second of worry on her face that evaporated and turned into a radiant smile as she realised the boy was alright, "You should learn to listen!" She told him, "She's not an easy girl!"
The part-goblin professor looked then again at the giant who had appeared from who-knows-where! "Sim, sou!" "Yes, I am!" she replied to him in a sing-song voice, nodding her head to let him know he had guessed correctly, "And you are?" She asked him, her neck almost hurting from having to look up so much.
